Good Morning! Coffee please and a couple eggs scrambled on top of hash browns all covered in sausage gravy thank you.

Today:

A 30 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. North northwest wind around 6 mph. Tonight: Rain likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Northeast wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Galaxy- Happy B-Day

Charlie- Your Mother is in my prayers. I sort of know what you're going through. My Mom is needing more and more attention also.

Gav- Your…….whatever the things called under your signature, describes my life right now to a tee! I’m trying to do everything at once and ain’t a gettin nowhere.

Ray- Beautiful picture. It really is. I’ve got my eye on a couple cameras at the Walmart. One is a Canon Rebel, not sure the rest, and the other is a Nikon something. (Laughing) As you can tell I was just flying past the camera dept on the way to the grocery store part in one of my Bonsai runs through for Mom. I usually keep my eye on the camera department as I walk past looking for a DSLR. These two were $499 each. The Canon seemed to have the capability of manual focus, where as the Nikon didn’t appear to be able to do that. Further research is required. I really wanted a Pentax so I could use my existing lenses, but it seems a Canon is my best bet for what I want. Plus I know you have a Canon Rebel and are pleased with it and it definitely takes good pictures. I have to check out this Nikon a bit more.

Tired of this little Sony Sureshot. Good camera I guess, but even Brenda has made a comment she would prefer a DSLR because sometimes the pictures are good and sometimes not so good and it takes to much scrolling through menu‘s to get the thing to take a good picture. Outside it‘s pretty much point and shoot but inside…… that‘s another story. I do have some money saved for the old Roadrunner that I could dig the cash out of and not put a strain on any living expenses, like the power bill or food.

Speaking of food, probably end up knocking off early today ( no wondr I never get anything done. And they continue to ask, "you're not done yet?") to take my perfect wife to dinner at the Chesapeake Seafood House. Kinda sorta late B-day dinner. Her’s was yesterday and I had to work as did she. They have great food and at surprisingly reasonable prices. Not cheap but real reasonable AND we have a gift ccertificate a Farmer gave her last year at CHRISTmas time for saving a load of corn.

Best get started.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Looks like you guys had a good time. Those are some nice pictures of the old Rockville Bridge, but for some reason these two caught my eye. Maybe it was just the serentity factor, I don't know.

Galaxy .... Have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY .......

Gav .... Good to see you! Please visit more often.

Ulrich .... Those cakes were so creative, it woul be a shame to cut them up to eat.

Ray .... Thanks for posting the link to photos. They are inspring for making scenery.

Jeff .... Hey, who's that guy with the van?!!!

Everybody .... Thanks much for the comments on my photo. I appreciate each one. I had fun with the photo.  I normally take pictures of diesels because most of  locos are diesels. This loco is a Heritage 2-10-2, and I do like this engine very much.

Reminds me. Has anyone heard from Fergie? He had quite a fleet of 2-10-2's, and we were kidding him about that. Photos he posted of his modeling were excellant.

There are a lot of other MIA's too. I hope each one returns soon.

Good morning from the Birthday boy! Another year older, but not much wiser as I think Alzheimers is setting in!

Awww, shucks!  Thanks for all the b-day greetings! Keep 'em coming!

Today is also my uncle-by-mariage's  birthday as well! {he married my mother's sister}. What are the odds of THAT happening? Will Smith, Barbara Walters, Michael Douglas also celebrate today! {Superman Christopher Reeve used to celebrate}.

The roast duck with raspberry glaze last night was fantabulously exquisit! It was just what the Dr. ordered and cooked to near perfection, as perfection would have had it falling off the bone as we ate and it didn't quite-but very close. Was juicy and tender and tasty, oh my! We had wild mushrooms au gratin encrusted with crumbs and cheeses for appetizer and the duck was paired with lightly steamed carots, zucchini and yellow squash with garlic mashed potatoes. We also had a nice salad of fresh field greens topped with house dijon vinegarette. WE each have enough left over for tonight's dinner already. I had teh complimentary b-day vanilla icecream "parfait" with chocolate sauce and my other half had creme broulee. My what a meal!

Robby P. there are so many September babies as it is conveniently exactly 9 months after Christmas! Talk about your delayed Christmas present delivery!

Jeffrey W. looks like the van is coming along nicely. What IS that  hood ornament out inn front on it though???

Went to CPR {Center for PAin Relief} to get injections yesterday. Today hurts worse than the pain in my back to begin with, I think.

Well, I have some chores to do today. So i'm off and running for now...or at least hobble walking....

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with NYS Maple Syrup and lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.

Thanks Garry, and TomTom, the two photos you posted are of the FGLK Trackage in Himrod, NY.  Himrod at one time was an interchange between the NYC and the Northern Central Division of the PRR.  I think 3 of the four legs of the X created are still in use.  You can see the original trackage in this 1899 Topographic Map of the area. http://docs.unh.edu/NY/ovid02sw.jpg  The Northern Central made its way North from Himrod to Canandaigua, NY where its trackage ended and South to Watkins Glen.  The NYC tracks came up through Dundee, NY to Himrod, and then ran to Geneva where it connected with the NYC Auburn Road.  The FGLK uses the NYC (now NS) track to get to Himrod and then the old PRR track to Watkins Glen to serve the Salt Mine there.  FGLK now owns the part of the of the "Auburn Road" it uses to get to Solvay, NY (Syracuse) and the old PRR tracks into Watkins.

A couple more shots I got yesterday.  One more of the Rockville Bridge (I love THAT bridge....!):

And another of Himrod:

Todd, I DO like my Canon Digital Rebel.  THAT said most all the DSLR cameras out should be able to do manual focus, at least with most lenses.  I would suggest you go someplace where you can pick up and hold the cameras to see how they "feel" in your hands.  Once you have purchased the camera, spend some time learning those things you know you will want to use.  There is a definite learning curve.....  For hobby w*rk, a good tripod is a must as you will get far better photos without using the flash.  THAT is where a DSLR shines.  You can have complete controll over all aspects of the camera.  Have fun!

Jeffrey, you mean THAT isn't a "Hood Ornament"?

Welp!  I best be getting going here.  Have a bunch of things to do.

It was on there maybe two days, doesn't look like it messed w/ the paint. I'm still pumped that I made that fix and it survived the interstate haha.

Galaxy, HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Well, AHS lost to Irmo 35-23. However, that game was AWESOME! at one point we had cut irmo to a 28-23 lead, went for 2, got stuffed, then irmo scored. still ahd a BLAST in the student section haha

Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a chocolate malted shake, please. Haven't had one of those real malted ones in a long time. Thanks!

Galaxy, a belated Happy B-Day to you; hope you had some fun and got some MRR stuff (or LHS coupon, etc....)

Jeff, is that a front PTO for the van? Cool! Whistling

Garry, thanks for the email, and I'll get the rest written back to you soon.

Been kinda busy this week, had to deal with the SS Division (technically Division of Senior Services) and THAT day ran super-long (9 p.m. getting home...).  I'm on-call this weekend (and just looked at October's schedule and they have me doing next weekend too? Bang Head).

Kinda ticked at the lack of info coming out of my relatives over the past several years. Besides learning a while later about them plowing under my old subdivision, I'm looking today for the old business address for the company my grandparents started (it was on South Grand in St. Louis), and I don't find it, but I do find that St. Louis University's med school apparently is in process of building a new multimillion $$ research facility. Sheesh! I'm wondering why I'm left out of the loop on any news connected to the family (on either side of my family)! Sent a short rant to my brother - mostly because he's the only person I have any email address for... Bang Head

Oh, on my wish for Accurail to make brake details for their boxcars like they have on their gondolas? The MRR fairy must've been listening - when I wrote and asked them, they said they are offering the brake details (in 3 colors - black, mineral red and red oxide). Smile So I ordered one of each for my boxcars, plus some Santa Fe numbering decals.

Kinda feel like crawling into one of the back booths that Duke isn't using and catch some ZzzZzz.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Flo, just a Antacid and a Beer tonight.

Wife has been sick for a few day's and has not eaten much. This mourning she asked me to go to Hardee's and get her a Biscuit and Gravy and there Hash Browns. While I was there I got my self a Breakfast Burrito, big mistake! Sigh Have not felt good all day now.

I did get the Old Athearn Hopper Painted today. I painted it about 1:00 PM and it is now 4:18 PM and feels a little tacky and I can still smell the paint a little. I am pretty sure it is Enamel and came out of a rattle can. I hit the ends a couple of times to get the ladder section good. Then I shot the main body, let it flash 15 minutes between coats. Texture is not bad and I like the color.

Any tips on applying decals? Went to K-10 Model Train's, he did not have a lot to pick from. I was hopping there be some Monon's but there where none. I bought a set of Santa Fee Box Car, I am not picky. Set is by Micro Scale and I am guessing they are old. Package is marked MSRP at $2.00 and I paid $5.00? Well that is a first at my LHS.

Hopper has ribbed sides, that is where I need tips. I last time I but a decal on anything I was 14 years old. I take that back, I was around 25. I was building model cars back then.

I think I am going to do a little switching. Need to take some of the coal cars off the Y-6, train is 25 feet long right now! Surprise

Yeah, but Duct Tape has some strong adhesive. I can understand your thrill that it lasted the interstate. But if you want a more substantial fix, try some zip ties. Crazy as it sounds, it holds those stinking things up pretty dang good. Besides, you would know if it fouled up the paint. Mainly because it would take the paint off.

Good Morning! As you can see by the time I will not be at ChurchEmbarrassed. I’ve gotta get some stuff done at Mom’s house. I’m running out of time. Then I must see her again this afternoon. I wonder why I’m taking so long to finish the house. They have no idea how long it takes to do all the odds and ends that need to be done.

Ray- I have a tripodThumbs Up. At the Walmart you can pick up these two cameras. They’re tethered to the counter, but I can pickup and piddle with them. Zoom in on the pretty girls and their hoot.......  (AHEM!! cough) Reason I said might not focus is, on the Rebel the focus functioned freely, on the Nikon it did not, or in my hurry, I just couldn’t, or ( more likely) just didn’t find the focus and I didn‘t spend any time with either. Was in a hurry you know, toilet paper run. Some I have seen do not have manual focus. These are usually the cheaper less expensive of the DSLR‘s. But manual focus is a must for me. An AbsoLUTE must when taking certain photos. Especially closeups like for my choo choos. The camera wants to focus on a point that is not the point it needs too. And the little screen just doesn’t do it for me. I can’t see it well enough in that thing to see if it’s in focus well enough or not. I can, however tell through the SLR viewfinder if the picture is in focus. Go figure. $500 is about the tops I’m wanting to pay for one as we don’t take near the pictures we used to anymore. I was hoping to get one for about the 3 to 400 dollar range, but apparently Pentax does not make the 2000 in that range anymore. They used to, but by the time I got around to making up my mind to get one they jumped in price. Just like when the truck needs gas. Boing!!! It would be nice to have a decent camera again.

Like I said earlier, I have to go in and see Mom today. Maybe I’ll take the time to stop on the way home and look at the two closer. At least get the model numbers so I can research at home. I could ask the clown at the camera department about them, but I’m afraid he will just read the card to me. They usually do…. While pointing to the words as they read…, to me….. Like my reading teacher used to do to us..... When we were like…., 16.

Yes, Todd. The Flying Lady hood ornament on the Rolls Royce retreats and recesses into the car when the engine is turned off. She is exposed and pops out again when the engine is started. It is an anti-theft, anti-vandalism feature to keep her from getting damaged or stolen! YesCoolGeekedWowYeah

 Afternoon Madison IN.

Flo, BLT with Cream Cheese and a Dew.

Cold Nasty, Raine Fall day here in Maryville. Just got back from Lowe's and it was only 54 F outside.

Getting ready to do some more Bob Villa stuff in the kitchen. But, the floor except for three tiles is done! Reason I have not laid them, is because I am waiting to see what I am going to do in the family room.

On the Train Front Got the freshly painted Athearn Blue Box set up and on the rails. Added new trucks and track fine. Could still smell the paint and felt a little tacky this mourning. But, I did not leave any fingers prints.

Robby P Any tips you can give me on applying the decal's? I am going to wait a few days to make sure the paint is going to cure.

 See you all for Dinner

Its half-time.   Steelers 28    Buc's (tampa bay) 6.   I thought I would stop by and see what's going on.

Ken......I don't really have a special way.   First it has to be a shiny surface.  I've tried to put decals on a dull surface, and IT DON"T WORK!!   I put a drop or two of Walthers decal solution on the spot where the decal will be.  Then I let the decal soak in "distilled water", and then I put in on the car.   Make sure your solution on the car hasn't dried up.   Then peel/slide the decal off and place on the car.   After I have the decal straight, I will use a paper towel to soak up any water/solution.   That's about it.  Well the way I do it.

Why does it have to have a shine? Is it so I can move the decal around?
