Sure does not get the hits that E Stupid does, but does not take long to list something either. I have been off E Bay going on 3 years. When I was selling it was took awhile to list something.

 My self, while at the train show I will be looking for either Accurail Covered Hopper Kits, old Blue Box Covered Hoppers and flat cars.

 By the way Robby, I don't remember you doing any engines. Have you done any?

well, I was tired today, stayed up to watch the Boise State/Virginia Tech game last night, BOISE STATE WON!!! :D no one really showed up for the rugby game; those of us that did just ran a few drills and left.

Sawyer, the freeweb site wouldn't have the advertising that an EBAY search gives you. They don't hook into Google. Also, there's no free automatic store. He could put up pages for what he has, but sales would have to go through PayPal still. Mostly, the issue is in the advertising.

Robby: You mentioned something about having cars for others to practicew on. Would a few Bachmanns work for that? Not that I'm trying to get rid of any, but...

Sam- what's this about working for VRE? I assume THAT my guess about why is right. If it is, at least you were lucky enough to grab a job down there. Good luck getting back in the seat!

School started last Wednesday. More on THAT (hopefully) tomorrow, if I FINALLY get my computer back!

Hey guys, no, nothing for me today. 

Galaxy, Ouch, that hurts just thinking about it. I use my debit card for online purchases and I check my balance online religiously. No matter if its been used recently or  not. If I never have to deal with that, I'll be too happy. 

 

Well, school's been a pain in my neck. Spanish is making me hopelessly lost, Auto shop is taking a while. Well, I'm one of a few who know what I'm dealing with, even though I'm used to quads and old farm equipment. 

Speaking of quads, my quad's been pulling to the right while riding at speed, well I started working on the front end and the right front brake is hanging up. The caliper is fine, there's nothing wrong in the lines, so I'm gonna drive down to the polaris dealer and buy a new caliper

 Well I made it to the LHS  (picked up three cars), and the owner said he would help me out for the train show.  Give me a good discount or so.  I also have a "weathering powder" company that will help me out also.  So its starting to line up. 

 Sawyer......I have a freewebs account, but mainly to show my cars.  I thought about starting a website, but I won't have the "buyers" like I would have on eBay.    That's what sucks!!

 Ken.......Thanks for the lookout for me.  I really don't know how many cars I need, or what kind.  I know Railboxs are a BIG it.   BUT...........I like for them to be Athearns.   Mainly the *ready to roll* series.   Plus it would depend on the price.    I will have to make a list soon thou.    Thanks thou!!!!!

I had no problem with it on my computer but on my parent's computer it did the same thing yours did, but only once.

 Galaxy Good news on them catching the fraud.  I have two checking account, one is for my normal funds, the other is for the internet. Both are free accounts, when I want to buy something on line I just transfer the funds. Hum, gulp till the other day and I bought some Johnny Lighting cars. 

 Lawnmower Called Home Depot about the POS, as long as I have my recite they will do a exchange. If this one is another POS, I spend the money to get my old Central Hardware mower fixed. It was a much better mower, three speed transmission, throttle and choke control, it had ever thing! (flash back to Deep Purple song High Way Star)

 Next project, I am going to install a decoder into a old Rubber Band Drive RDC-1 car. Why you ask? Because I can. Seen main page.

Then I need to get back on the Athearn SD-50. Decoder is installed but sometimes the motor makes a racket. Going to try some A T F on the bearings, have heard good things about it. If that does not do it, will try new bearings for the motor. 

 Robby P I am going to the ST Louis Boeing Train show / Swap meet. Anything I should look for, for you?

I made my 20 cent repair on the brake light switch today. Glued a couple dimes together with JB Weld the glued them to the brake pedal strut with a small spot of JB Weld and left them pinched between the pedal strut and the switch. I'll go back out in a while and see how it's holding. Just hope I don't glue the whole mess together.

Well HELLO!  Took me till NOW to catch up with you guys...  I started WAY up in the woods, seems I found the same "crumb" trail as some others, unfortunately it "trailed" off about a half mile from our first spot.  I had to flag down a passing freight and get the number for the Dispatcher.  After a long conversation they told me where I could find you guys!  Oh, and BTW, they told me about the new place having a rule against ANYTHING-a-pult.  So I have permanently "semi-retired" my aresenal!!!

 

I have good news!  I believe that I will be in the "seat" as an Engineer sooner than I ever really thought!  I will give more details as I am allowed to!  Sorry for the vaugeness of the situation, but you know how railroaders can be a supersticious bunch, not wanting to "jinx" anything...

Well...... (deep subject) the truck is at the dealer's to be repaired (crunch, crunch, crunch...).  My son could even hear it from his car as he followed me over.  They won't get to it until tomorrow probably.  needs to have its NYS yearly inspection and an oil change as well.

Galaxy, THAT's not good news on the credit card.  At least they caught it and will hopefully find whoever it is and prosecute for you.

Almost time to switch over to air conditioning for a few hours today.  Going to get up into the mid 80's this afternoon and I need to do some canning!  been so nice not to have to run the air conditioner for a few days. 

Best get moving, still have lots to get done today.

Morning guys!

Some coffee please I have some chores to do.

Not sure what the strange noise the 'puter made the other day was, but seems to be working fine now. Watch in a few months it will crash unbeknownst to us why.

My back has recouped somewhat after the trek to Steamtown. I can both sympathize and empathize with you, steven wisconsin railfan. I see the Center for Pain relief later this month for relief from back pain. Oxycontin and Vicodin just don't cut it. See on the news some kid OD'd on Oxycontin the ohter day. DOn't know what thrill it gives these kids these days as it doesn't get me high, and in fact does little to eliminate the pain I actually have, let alone get me high. I just don;t understand kids taking script meds to get "high".  SOme may make me a little sleepy I guess, but that's about it.

Doing laundry now. Did a load yesterday, too. For only two of us, we certainly have enough to do. Seems like I do 6 loads out of 7 days, if I do it every day. GOt the kitchen cleaned up yesterday too, it wnet a bit amock when we went to steamtown and me being miserable with this dang cold on Sunday.. I had two cups of coffee and then went on a bender of sorts geting chores done, even with my back out of kink! Man, talk about "go juice"!!

Cold is settling in my chest. Not good for me as I typically get

 bronchitis and pneumonias wen colds do that to me. Perhaps the work I did yesterday in chores helped to "move it out" on me. Then again maybe all that activity made it worse, and rest would have been better.

Other half picking up some extra hours this week thank goodness. Department hours cut back, so short to a mere 12 hours lastweek and this week, so the extra hours are a good thing as we have mounting bills to pay and shorter hours do not make it easy. My disability check was long gone before it got here at the end of the month. and the next one too. Usually I can save some of it for a rainy day, but lately the rainy day is every month gone zippo zappo.

Got a curious phone call from my Visa credit card company- Chase. Seems that card-which is the onlyone I use online for this reason- was comprimised somewhere and someone was racking up charges by the hundreds of dollars! They closed the account and sent me a new card. THey turned over the obvious fraud billings and I have to scrutinize the next bill for errors as the last bill was legit, but was comprimised just after they printed the last bill. SHould be easy to mark the erroneous charges as I haven;t used that card since the last legit use last month, which will be on the next bill. I only use this one card for online purchases just in case it gets comprimised from computer hacking. who knows when it was hacked, but it obviously was. We also used it in PA when we went to Strasburg, so it could have been comprimised there as well, but most likely was "stolen" awhile ago and then used just recently. That seems to be an MO hackers use, hack, then verify, then use at later date hoping someone won't notice. I still owe a few bucks on it that are legit, and hope to pay it off this month, but will be tight. SInce I use that card very little anyway, and usually pay off the balance every month, they caught it early that charges were being racked up in larger amounts, like $224.14 to pay someone's cell phone bill at AT&T. hope they can backtrack that and that it is the abuser's cell phone number they can track to get them. Last year, almost everyone I know, including my father had cards comprimised. My father even started getting merchandise he never ordered nor would want delivered to his door as well from the fruadulent use of his card! He had to send all that stuff back, some of it at his expense. I haven't had that happen yet, but any mysterious packages that show up will be sent back, as I haven;t ordered anything like that online lately. Just the online tickets for Strasburg and use while in PA at Strasburg for gas and such. I used it quite a bit last year at xmas, could have been hacked then as that is a time when lots of cards get hacked. I NEVER use a CC to pay at a restaurant as that is where card info often gets swiped twice, one for a "reader" and one for the legit charge when they disappear with your card, or they run it through the second time to put the tip on it you add after they get approval for the meal charge. I also fogure if we can't pay cash for eating out, we shouldn't be doing it. ANd I never pay bills online with my CC. I hope they catch the devils and hang 'em. rant over now.

Another busy day today. Gotta see Mom and do some w*rk on her house then paying w**k at 5.

Jim- Sorry, I must have added a foot in my typing. The normal distance from a roughed in wall, (before the drywall is put on) is 12 inches to the center of the sewer drain that comes through the floor. Most toilets are built to these dimensions so when the drywall is attached, (usually no thicker than 1/2 inch depending on your builder, some will use 3/8, but 1/2 inch drywall is best) there is 11 and 1/2 inches for the toilet and tank with some air space between. This means if the drain is placed 11.5" from the rough wall, when the drywall is attached and the toilet set, though it usually will fit, the tank is pressed up against the wall and that shouldn't be, moister and such you know. I am not going to redo the plumbing and the floor for 1/2". The things do fit, just too close to the wall. I am putting styrofoam liners in the tanks to help with the condensation on the exterior of the tank. Really, since I'm not living there nor will Mom, it doesn't matter to me other than personal preference to do what I can to do the thing as corrrectly as posssible without major re-construction so the new owners don't have to redo things once they get it and find out that, even though it looks good, it needs to be redone. Or should be redone. On the other hand, the toilets have been like that since 1972 with no rotting drywall or mold, just an incredible amount of unreachable dust bunnies so it doesn't really seem to be an issue other than mine. The only other toilet I found is set for 10" and that would put the toilet too far from the wall and would look like the toilet almost sets in the middle of the floor it would be so far from the wall. (Of course I didn't tear the town apart looking either.) It's amazing what just an inch or two looks like. Clear as mud? Have some coffe on me.

Jeff isn’t it always the simple things we overlook on car repairs? I had the shop replace my valve cover gaskets, when I picked it up everything was fine until I got on the highway.  No get up and go, felt like I had a 4-cyl under the hood instead of the 7.3L.  After hours of troubleshooting found an over tightened 75 cent hose clamp on the turbo charger that slipped on a vacuum line.  Did you get those decals I sent you?

I know that kind of problem well. My nephew was convinced the van had a radiator leak but he couldn't pin it down. He was looking where the tank meets the core, a lot of territory on a triple core radiator. I found the problem in only a few minutes. The weeper drain just under the radiator cap was leaking. The coolant would run down the back of the tank and fill the channel where the tank and core meet on the front so it looked as if the leak was there. I cleaned out the corrosion around the weeper and filled in the leak with some JB Weld. Problem solved. The radiator now has antifreeze in it and doesn't leak a drop. Yes, I got the decals. They're exactly what I ordered. Thank you. I sent you a PM about a small problem I observed but that was before the forum was changed. Check your 'Conversations'. The message should be there.

 

Well I actually managed to do something right yesterday  While I was running the wires for the air horn under the vans dash I noticed a loose wire near to what looked like the terminal it was supposed to connect to. So I connected it. I now have a functional fuel gauge. The air horn works well though it's almost as loud on the inside as it is on the outside. Not much insulation between the two.

 Good morning.  A cold front is coming, but not today.  The high will be about 88 degrees.

 Well I have to make a trip to the LHS, and mail off a package to Australia.   Come back home and clean the house some. 

 Yesterday Jessicas grandmother and aunt came over to give us some old rug for the basement.   They haven't seen the layout in awhile!!!   Her grandmother said "what's that thing?".  "My layout" I said.   I turned the lights on, and they both were in amazement.   Her aunt asked "does it work".  "Of course" I said.   I also showed them the picture if my budwiser billboard.   Her grandmother said "what do you do, come down and look at it?".   "Yes, yes I do...!!!!"        It was pretty funny.   Her grandmother is very funny.

 Lawnmower I know there is something up in the carburetor, I have spark. I tried to start it again after I left the dinner. 40 more pulls, start up about ever 3rd pull, run 10 second's or less then die. Going to try getting some of the gas out and then add more fresh gas. See if that does it. If that does not do it, time to take it back to Home Depot and see how the warranty works.

 One of the things I really hate about the new mowers. There is no Choke or Throttle controls. If I where to make a guess, I would say the choke is closing killing the engine. Not having throttle control and choke control just seems plain Stupid if you ask me!

Wife has been approved for Disability After three years Sue has been approved for INS, think that is what it's called. Not sure if this is going to helps us or not. They could not tell Sue how much she will get because it based on how much I make. So today besides messing with the Lawn Sitter, I mean Mower I have to go too unemployment and get a print out of what I been paid this year. Plus I have to run to the VW Dealership I worked at and get a print out from them. Reason's I don't have all my stub's is because ever time I turn around some one wanted them. Should have made copy's but we know how hindsight is.   

 Her Lawyer get's paid first as well, his fee is $6,000.00. So if she only get's $250.00 a month for the pass 3 years that is $9,000.00. But, 3 years ago I made $56,000.00 so she would not have got anything? If she only gets paid from the last time she filed, that was March of this year. Based on the $250.00 guess it will take 24 months before she see's a dime.

Jim, I have the Ryobi set of 18v tools.  I like them a lot; Milwaukee tools did a great job on these. I bought their weed trimmer and it runs around the yard just fine on one battery.

I started adding safety stripes to my GP-7’s this weekend but that’s about it. In the train room I installed 2 boxes of the Traffic Master Linoleum wood flooring; very nice and easy to install.

I had a pretty bad night - just could not go to sleep. That house issue is really eating me up, to a degree, which is certainly not good for me.

Janie, is that you? I´d like my coffee in an IV bag this morning, no, nothing to eat, as I have to watch my diet. Thank you.

The house was very special to my family and me. It was meant to be home for us, a place for generations to come. My grandfather had to leave his home, when the part of Germany he lived in was turned to Poland, following the Versailles Treaty. As a WW I lieutenant, the Polish did not want him to stay. Shortly before the end of WW II, the family had to give up their home again, as the Red Army rolled over Eastern Germany. Since then, we never had a place to be called home, until I built that house. It took more than a year to come up with the plans for each detail, as it follows historical design and construction principles. Now it will be home to a brainless (expletive, deleted) - I just can´t get over it. Something inside me must have broken ...

It is about time that Petra and I pack up and go - but where to? Is there a place for us, which we will be able to call "home" again? I am starting to get my doubts on that.

Ulrich, I was sorta thinking that that might be the case on your Renault, but thought I'd ask. 'Course, I was thinking that maybe that job might come with vehicle. Ah, well... Hope your sleep settles back down plenty soon for you. You could tell the new buyer of the house that if he'll up the price he paid for it, you might consider explaining to him about the appliances (over the phone...).

TSF, I wish I could've had jobs like that one; sounds good - now, so long as they pay good (and promptly, of course).

Todd, good that you don't have MAJOR stuff at your place (though yeah, I'd agree that getting nickel-and-dimed can be almost as bad. About those toilets, somebody who built the house probably thought that was 'good enough' at 1' 11 and a half. Though I don't understand the how/why of how-come the half foot affects that other stuff you talked about. (Can you tell how good I'm not, at bigger home repair stuff?)

And if you think Garry's layout looked good in WPF, you should see it up close! That's why I want to see what he's up to lately.

Yum! I see that Ray's garden has come in, and we'll have some fresh veggies for our salads and dinners. And I'll have to go see what that stone conveyor looks like - must be pretty hefty, I'm guessing. (Couldn't find it on Walthers' site - got any photo of that?) Ray, for a couple of months after I learned that they had torn down about all the houses in the subdivision (where I lived during junior high and high school), and then saw aerial pics on Google Maps (Carrollton subdivision - Woodford Way Drive, Bridgeton, MO 63044), I felt like that song. Feeling better now, but I don't think I want to see it up close at ground level anytime soon.

Zan, as you said, it'll probably be like my layout - a decoder here, a decoder there (maybe some months or a year later), etc.... One good thing for you with internet 'LHSes' is, they will deliver it to your place.

Wisc.Railfan/Steven, if you're in the process of building your layout (or even if you're all done), that saw will come in mighty handy, I'd say. Cordless? I know most of the guys in our MRR club have that kind (but I can't afford those 12 v. ones just yet), and they like 'em.

And I can see that there will be a lot of happy Diners once the grass starts dying off this fall... Can't totally disagree with you, either.

Sheesh, you guys are a talky bunch today - I think it was at the 11th (maybe 12th) page when I came in here, and now it's up to the 14th page? At least (for now) I'm caught up, for a little while. (Whew!)

My Labor Day wasn't too laborious for me; most labor I did was to unstack some of my MRR tubs - with the freight car kits in 'em - and try to consolidate all those kits of the same kind into the same box. Tomorrow, I'll get back to w**k. But that's okay, somebody's got to help out so you retarred Diners' checks don't stop just yet. (It's payday, too! )

Ulrich:  I understand how you feel about the house.  8 years ago, after my job went down the same tubes as the rest of the jobs in the area, we had to sell the house that I designed and built.  We had hoped to make it our home for the rest of our lives.  It was built in what had been a resort,  water front no more than 2 blocks away in 3 directions, and a park across the street.  Because the economy there had tanked before it did in the rest of the country, we ended up having to sell the place for about 2/3s it's appraised value.  We've been back to the area a few times since, but I always decline going to see the house.   About a year and a half ago, we were considering selling this place and moving...until we discovered that after doing a basement to roof rehab over the previous 6 years or so, we'd have been lucky to get what we paid for the place originally...before all the work.  Wife and I both decided we just could not go through that again.

Ken:  Welcome to the "I hate lawn mowers club".  The one we have now, though only 4 years old and only used to mow a postage stamp size yard, has had to have the carburetor rebuilt every spring.  Every year, about half way through the summer, it gets harder and harder to start...by fall it won't start at all.

Flo just a decaf for me.

Went over to my son's house for a fabulous picnic.  Hots and hamburgs, sausage, beer bratworst, potato salad. macaroni salad, potato chips and dip, baked beans, sweet tea, beer, etc., and for desert.....  Chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream.  Of course the best part was being around the granddaughters.

With Fall upon us my schedule returns to meetings several nights a week.....  Hopefully the lawn w*rk will diminish so I can actually get more time in the layout rooms.  I did bring my small portable table back from my son's house tonight.  It is the one I use in the workshop down cellar when I need space to spread out everything for a project. 

My son's Uncle in Law... (is THAT a title?) gave me a good idea where I can find the gunmetal colored paint for one of my projects.  I totally forgot there is a second hobby shop right here in Geneva.  It is the one that deals in radio controlled cars and planes.  He has an online shop and is open mornings I guess, and he has the paint in stock according to his website!  YES!

Tomorrow my son will be stopping by on his way home from a company meeting (they have these a couple times a year) where all employees must attend.  He is going to follow me over to the repair shop when I drive the truck there......  Hope it holds together long enough to get to the shop.  It is about a mile...

Hey!!! I'm home even earlier than last night!! DR Pepper Please. There is a smell coming from the kitchen I haven't smelled in a couple months. Food!

Ulrich- I feel your pain. I know exactly what you mean on the house thing. That is why I am having to spend so much time changing things in Mom's house. Unfortunately the market doesn't like what she liked. This is the house I, for the most part, grew up in. Every time I went over there, it brought back fond memories of my youth because it looked the same. Now, unfortunately, we have seen that the buyers don't see it that way and I am forced to change things or she is forced to take a substantial cut in the price of the home. Fortunately, she owns it free and clear so there is no one else involved, however though it looks great, it still hurts in some way to see things change. Like you know, a house becomes a home, and when that happens change is not entirely welcome even if needed.

Ken- I had to buy.two years ago, a new lawn mower myself. I had a Lawn-Boy of about 18 years of age that started on the second pull every time. It ended up with two stripped out holes for the muffler (steel bolts in aluminum and you know what happens) and not enugh meat to repair coupled with a "no longer made" and not even available in salvage, reserve or the Ebay, forced me to buy a new one. I really liked that mower. Anyway, I went a different shade of Green. John Deere. Pretty good mower and starts on the FIRST pull every time. Even the first start of the year. A three or four pull event for the Lawn-Boy. The engine is a Briggs, so I'd think it would be the same, or close, to yours.

Supper's ready and the dogs name has been called so I best get going or all I'll get is scraps.

 Lawnmowers As some of you may know instead of buying a H-4 steamer, I bought a new Toro for $300.00. I think the people that made this thing made Jeffery's van and car!  It has never been a easy starter, out of the box it took three pulls. Month or so I had to pull and clean the plug after not starting after 15 pull's.

 Last night it started after 6 pulls, ran for about a minute and died. Well maybe bad gas. Today while I was not that lazy I added fresh gas and cleaned the plug. While the plug was out, I made 7 pulls to clean it out some. Installed the plug and it took 20 pulls to do anything. After 35 pulls (yes I was counting)  it would run for 10 seconds and die. Gave up after 40 pulls. I think I would have better luck with cutting the grass with the H-4 steamer.

Sounds like you have a carb problem there. Either a bad seal somewhere inside or it's sucking air between the carb and the block. My mother has a Troybilt chipper/shredder that does the very same thing. We just got tired of messing with it and it's been rusting away in the back of the shed for the last 15 years.

 Ulrich I sort of know how you feel. As I have posted I may lose my house. Been here for 19 years, longest I have ever stayed in one spot. Only thing I have going for me is houses around me are not selling so I think the bank will still keep working with me.
