Robby, looking forward to some pics! and yeah, I saw them unveil it; the car just looks awesome and it kinda looks like the original stock car #3 because of the Nationwide series's new car.

Chris, thanks!

Well, got a pic of the scenery work I've done; it's not much though and it's a cell phone pic, but still, n-joy!

Hey there Sawyer,

Things are really coming along there and are looking good.

You have to do something about your background though.  It certainly looks industrial, but I doubt you can find a prototype for it.   Big SmileLaughSmile,Wink, & GrinLaughBig Smile

Also really like your paint scheme for the Aitken Northern, very sharp indeed.

Just a RBF. and a toasted tomato sandwich please Chloe, I don't have much time as my wife wants a new light fixture put into each of the main floor bathrooms.

All the rest of you Grunts, be sure to have a really good day.  It is much better here now that the rain has stopped  ( for a couple of hours anyway. )

Coffee in a  BURLINGTON NORTHERN  mug, please.

***Chris, those would be fun to stick on the end of robots to do carnage with. They could come up with some better names for their products though, like Heavy Metal Annihilator or something along those lines.Wink

***Barry, does it record bells & whistles, too?Wink

Need to find replacement trucks w/ nuckle couplers for the wife's "David Lee's Zebra Extravaganza" circus car. Went to replace the old hook/horn couplers with EZMate's and stripped both the holes with the original screws. Then tried just gluing the covers on, but with no luck. Other than THAT, the car is ready for the rails. Dunce

Got the neighbors quote for clearing the future pasture land. No way can we afford him. So, time to start calling every grading company in the phone book for bids.

Johnboy, it's the construction team of giants! lol. Thanks though, it's driving me nuts because I want to work on the town some but I'm going to just focus on the DQMC (Dixie Quick-Mix Cement) plant and get that section's scenery in. I don't know when I'll get the new scheme onto the locos

 Just a quick stop.

 Sawyer....Looks good!!

Here's a couple of shots from me.   I just added the "no turn left" sign in the middle of the road.  I will paint that tomorrow.  I still need to add some trees, and finish the road around the station.  The last picture is what the town looks like so far.  I hope to add a few more buildings soon.

 Good Evening,

it is closing in on 10 pm over here. Petra is watching the World cup soccer match. Germany is playing Ghana and leads 1:0. I am not much of a soccer fan, so I sneaked out to enjoy a RBF here in the Diner.

It has not been a good day today. We have completed the legal procedure to file personal insolvency and are now officially poor people. I am very emotional about this - being considered "poor" after 30 years of hard work is eating up my soul. The good thing is, that the remnants of what we once had are now legally protected and cannot be taken from us. What a life! I am not sure how much more weight my shoulders will be able to carry.

A peaceful evening to all of you, my friends!

Evening all.

Went and helped a friend do some things today and stood for a few hours. FOr once my back didn't bother me as much as it has been. Of course, I took my pain meds/muscle relaxers in advance but they don't always work well anyway. I will help again tomorrow we shall see how 2 days in a row will feel.

Robby P. That section of your layout is coming along nicely! Thumbs Up

What you need is a set similar to what I have here.

They are Kaydees set #503, arch bar trucks with coupler platforms. I plan on using these to re-truck one of my  centerline track cleaning cars as it has gotten to be really shakey.  It was a EvilBay buy and I think it had seen the floor at least once.

Don't ask me about "N"o scale though as all I know about that is I have one WP boxcar that was sent to me by mistake. My total investment in "N" scale.

Say Hi to TinyToons for us. and hope that new fence works out.

Evenin' Folks!

Flo I'll have the Rib Eye Special, Med. Rare, Baked Potato w/ sour cream, and a trip to the salad bar.  Oh and decaf please.

I'll sit right here at the Rivet Counter and see what everyone's been up to.

I almost had the second side finished on the Utility Trailer, but the humidity reached 100% at the same time my cordless drill ran out of battery.  Yep, it is raining here in the Finger Lakes.  In fact there may be some thunder boomers mixed in.  Probably a present from Barry directly to the West of me but in Canada.  I did get the garden more or less weeded (I ran the rototiller between the rows).  I still need to use the smaller B&D battery one I have and then probably use the old hoe to finish up.

Just as I was finishing rototilling, I looked over across the side street and there was an ambulance complete with all the flashing lights and a big crowd of people hanging around.  Can't say for sure, but since the wife of the homeowner was looking like she was in shock, I would guess (since I haven't seen him yet) THAT her husband had something bad happen......  He was out mowing lawn earlier today and was fine then.  Sure hope he is OK.  They are good people and great neighbors.

Ulrich, it is so sad to hear you are now in bankruptcy.  At least it will protect what little you have left.  Oh, and BTW I really believe that wealth has little to do with money.  With Petra at your side, a loving family, many, and so many friends, you have much riches my friend!  My prayers for your health and happiness continue.

Tomorrow I will head back out to camp and get another campsite done.  Probably will be there in the afternoon as the rain is supposed to continue until noon tomorrow.  Check THAT...  Now they are saying thunderstorms until 3 PM tomorrow.  OK So I'll go out to camp Late Afternoon.

Think I go check out the trains...

Later!

Hey Ya'll

Still getting T-boomers every afternoon around 3-4. It's been like this fo a week. Luckily it's all been coming fron the north, so there is 0 chance of any oil in it. Wonder what happens if we get rain from the south since oil is starting to show up around here?

Despite all the rain I have made some progress on the scoop for my car. It's almost complete, but I need to get some more 400 grit sandpaper to finish it up. Then I have to weld in some reinforcements on the holed hood (yes scoop will be functional). I want to mock up having a flat black stripe on the hood going up to the scoop before I get the entire car re-painted. Might look good with some rear window louvers added (kind of like the old Boss 302)

New engine showed up today:

And here's the haul from the trainshow:

(the DRGW car is begging for a silver roof and some weathering)

Sawyer: That scheme is almost spot-on for the Providence and Worchester.

Robby: Nice cars, but an intresting mistake on athearn's part.

I gotta remember to drop in more often

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Vincent, sweet loco and haul. Huh, now that you mention it, it does look a lot alike; I don't believe the stripe moves like mine though. It's a hybrid of a South Carolina Central RR paint scheme and the Lancaster and Chester's SW1200 scheme

The colors are CB&Q Chinese red, CB&Q grey, and Engine Black

Glass of fresh squeezed OJ, please.

***Johnboy, will look into the #503's. Thanks! If that doesn't work, I might look for a cheap new car of the same length and swap out under frames, but that will be a last ditch approach. Thankis for asking about Toons. She is doing fine. As for fence, looks like we (I) will be doing it all ourselves (myself). It may kill me, but it has become apparent that grading and removing stumps is going to cost us a lot. There goes my train funds, too.Grumpy

***Vincent, NICE haul there!Thumbs Up

Finished the wife's Tennessee Thoroughbred circus car. Also wired and set the shed in the trailer park. Plus, cut some sheetrock for the window sills of the porch I built 2 or 3 or 4 years or so ago. (memory is gone) Finally going to finish it, as I'm ready for more sheetrock mud down in the train room. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Flo just a cup of decaf if you please.

Just spent 2 hours on the phone with my sister....  She is celebrating her 13th. birthday today....  Or was that 63rd. ????  Hmmmm  Actually it is her 67th, but she is now counting backwards since she reached 65, so I guess we'll call it 63....?????Whistling

Don't you folks "up there in the great white North" need rain????  Here is the project the precipitation kept me from getting done tonight:

Couple more days and she should be ready for road use.  Have to build the front side, and then make a removable gate for the rear end.  If I have measured correctly the log splitter should just fit on the bed of the trailer for when I take it places.

Robby your layout is coming along very nicely sir!

Have to get up early tomorrow as my son is having my watch Granddaughter #2  for about an hour while the other one goes to the doctor.  She went to the bone doc. yesterday and her collarbone is all healed.  She doesn't have to wear the brace anymore and can resume all normal activities except not holding on while she is on her swing.........Whistling

Have a good one!

Evening. Rained like the dickens here. That's all we need.

Ulrich- ( extends hand to shake) Welcome to the poor folks club. It's not so bad, like Ray said it's all in what you consider poor. With my wife and my friends, yes that includes all you guys, I'm as rich as I can be.

Uh oh, sounds like I better add Ray's neighbor to the prayer llist.

Well, I have to get an early start tomorrow with the rain and all, mom's house has decided to get water in the basement with these relentless rains. Great timing. They are going to show it at 10 am and I'm sure it has water after the deluge we just received.

Better get to bed and think of Robby's roads and how I wish mine would look half as good.

Oh, what's this? Looks like Ray left a couple bites of his Ribeye. And it's med rare too. Well, now my favorite cut of beef and cooked my favorite way, maybe I'll just finish it off for him. ShockAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! WATER!!! WATER!!!!!! I should have known. What a prankster. Must have been a whole bottle of Habanera sauce on that thing.

Prayers for those in need.

Good Evening... RBF please 'n thank-you.

ULRICH: Sorry to hear of the latest set-back, I really don't know what else to say that could add to what RAY and TODD already have other than we're here for you Brother...

TODD: Good to see you in here this evening. I was kinda wondering how you were after last night/this morning's storms, and this afternoon's storms, and the storms before THAT, and the storms before THAT...  Weather speculationists say tomorrow and Friday will be nice here, so you "should" have some dry-out time coming.

VINCENT: Your coupla will be enroute soon...I haven't quite made it to the Post Office during THEIR "w**king hours." Disapprove  Nice haul from the train show, and a nifty BN locomotive. I think I found one similar to it in western Iowa...

Welp, back at it. Since I was up all freakin' night long last night monitoring the weather...my internal clock is all manner of afoul. So...I'm going to try to knock-out stuff for THAT. Maybe then I can use the alleged nice weather tomorrow to get the yard mowed. Anybody got a hay mower, a swather, and a bailer I can borrow???

G'night, best wishes to those in need. From the looks of things, THAT's durn-near each and every one of us...

Sir Madog

 Good Morning,

sun´s up and it looks like it will be a nice and sunny day today.

Whistling

Good Morning Ulrich,

Sorry to hear you didn't sleep well.  Zzz  However you did warm up the pillow and so I think I'll put my head on it and get a few ZZZzzzsss.

This is the first day of the rest of your life, you woke up on the top side of the grass, your lungs are filling with that sweet summer air and I bet there are some wonderful smells coming from Petra's kitchen.  That seems like quite a bit to be thankful for.

You and your dear wife are in our prayers and so are your folks. Things will improve, keep the faith.

ZOE,  it's pretty quiet in here, it seems all the rouwdeys  have woven their way home for the night.  I hope some of those guys from the Beer Barn who came for a late night snack were walking home, they were in no shape to drive.............Dead      Speaking of late night snacks.  Did those guys leave any of that pulled pork ?  If so I'll have a sandwich of it on Rye.  Ginger Ale to chase tonight. Don't need any caffenine on going to bed.

Well I got the two new light fixtures up in the main floor bathrooms and both my wife and I are quite pleased with them. Thumbs UpThumbs Up  We found them at Lowe's in Spokane  and brought them home with us last week. Had to support the USA economy you know...Oh, and by the way, my new camera arrived and it is a dandy.  Nikon L110, so soon I should have a few pictures up. Don't hold your breath, as I don't seem to move too fast these days.

Also got the back lawn (large) mowed this evening as they are forecasting more rain.  Tomorrow evening my Son (3rd.) is coming with his chain saw to help me trim a bunch of trees that have taken over an area where I don't want them crowding into.  So it just never ends, it goes from one job to another.  But I guess that is a form of progress.   Now if I could just get back and get some progress going on the "Wobbly". Still haven't gotten around to lay the tracks (4) in the staging yard.  Must do and soon.   The rest of the layout really is due for a cleaning. Tracks are so dirty I think the Locos would get stuck on them.

Till Later.    Prayers and blessings for all who stand in need.

 Hi again,

it is too early for lunch, so I´ll just go for some more coffee to keep my eyes open, Zoe - thank you.

A friend of mine has been given a set of Kato´s N scale bullet trains and now wants to run them. He has asked me to design a layout for him, which I did during the rest of the night and the morning.

Here it is:

I had to do a bit of reading on Japanese model railroading practices to come up with this idea. The layout is based on a suburban passenger train station, with the inner and outer loop "reserved" for commuter trains. The remaining loops inside are meant for the Shinkansen trains passing through that station. There are also two small depots for commuter trains and an industrial spur, just to justify an occasional freight train. The layout will have to be built in 4 sections, to be able to store it on a shelf when not in use. The blue parts will remain unscenicked, only the yellow part is meant to have an urban setting.

Now you operation freaks will cry out load - no staging, not enough industries to be served by rail. But the bloke just wants to run his trains, without bells and whistles, no DCC, no frills. For that purpose, I think I did pretty good. I should start to charge money for that Evil

The good thing about making track plans like this is, that it keeps me from having bad thoughts about our future. I am pretty much at the end of my wits now, and I can just wait for things to happen. I have sent my resume to just about any headhunter there is in Germany, and even some in the UK, The Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. As I don´t speak enough French, I cannot go the Franco-Belgian route.  Staying a happy camper is a tremendous effort. Your wishes and prayers do help a lot, though.

Decaf coffee and a small bowl of pecans, please.

***Ray, what is the capacity on that trailer? Nice work.

***Chris, sharp pic of the BN locos. Always enjoyed seeing them pass by my backyard in WA state. Never saw any that large where I was though.

***Ulrich, looks like an excellent track plan. The assorted Bullet Train models available these days are sharp looking. Will your friend have any elevated track?

***Johnboy said: "So it just never ends, it goes from one job to another." To which I say, Yup!EvilLaugh

Rob - welcome to the crowd. I have been burning midnight oil for quite some time now  and it starts taking its toll on me.

Japan has quite a bit of elevated track, but my friend is not yet sure he wants some. In any case, he could elevate those for tracks in the back and add scenery and structures to it - I am hoping he does that, would add some more spice to it. I did a bit of a research on Japanese model railways and was amazed, how cheap (in terms of price) they are. A Tomix electric loco sells for about 60 Euros here in Germany, and a 3-car EMU goes for 90 Euros. Compared to the price level of German prototype locos from the likes of Trix and Fleischmann, that is really a bargain.

Get some rest, Rob - will ya?

***Ulrich, it's one of those nights I'm over-tired and can't shut off my conscious mind. Also partly the sarcoidosis at work I suppose. Life goes on and it still beats the alternative. Completely agree with you regarding the price on the German models. There are quite a few I would like to have, but the prices...Yikes! Also really like many of the Japanese trains, like this Kato set:

But how can I justify it on a layout with no electrics overhead? Still, it's one of many interesting looking trains, (I think). And I would still like to work in some elevated track, even though my layout will be mostly steam.Whistling

Well, it's almost 6:00am, going to try again to get some zzzzz's. Take care, Ulrich!

Just before 1400hrs yesterday I was sitting in my chair at work on the 20th floor of the Federal Building here in Cleveland and my chair felt like it was rocking back and forth, I looked over at my phone cords and they were swinging back and forth.  I asked my co-workers if they felt anything weird.  They both looked at me like I was crazy.  When we came back we found out Canada had a 5.5 earthquake.

Good morning.  Its going to sunny, but not as hot!!

Today I'm going to hang out with the wife at her work place.  This is the place about 75-100ft from a Norfolk Southern line (Mon Line).  Hopefully something comes by.

Thanks for all of the comments on my layout.  You wonder how good it looks (your layout) since you see it all of the time, but when everybody on here comments on how nice it looks.............It makes you feel good Big Smile.

Lee..........People in Pittsburgh felt it as well.  I'm only 30 miles from Pittsburgh but I didn't feel anything.  Plus I wouldn't know if I felt one anyway Mischief.

I hope everybody has a good day, and I will pop back in later.

Good morning. It's 81 and sunny. The high is expected to be 92 with a 50% chance of thunderstorms later.

We got some good rain showers yesterday but they still amount to just a drop in the bucket. I'm feeling well enough today that I should be able to get some light housework done, after which I won't be feeling so good and wondering what the heck was I thinking. Some of that housework will be clearing the clutter from the layout. There are odd bits of mail, empty bottles, unneeded pieces of old kits and some cutoff pieces from structures that are just taking up space.  There are also some old boxes under the layout that need to be cleared out. I also need to clean the air conditioner filter provided I get the afore mentioned boxes out of the way. One thing that needs to be done is that I need to sort through the rolling stock on the layout and decide on what I want left there. The rest will go up in the cabinet where it will be out of the way and eventually rediscovered during some future archaeological dig.
