Coffee refill, please.

***Keith, that's a mighty fine looking circus car there. Have some others online we could view? Although I have a cheapo circus train for my N scale (which has never seen the rails), the wife's is HO. She is not particular on roads or anything else. Hers is a 100% "whatever she fancies" layout, which is fine with me. Heck, mine will be equally non-prototypical if not more so. After all, the main industry will be a Soylent Green Plant and volcano mineral collecting/processing operation.Whistling

Speaking of the Soylent Plant, found a pretty cool loco to use for transporting "stock" from the prisons and other institutions to said plant. Only thing is, it is pricey and has a rapido coupler. Wonder how difficult it would

be to convert?

Cheers! Rob

Rob,  lol.. what a good laugh I got from you and your idea of having a Soylent Green Plant.  OMG,  what a great idea and the train to boot.

For those of you who don't know the movie, well, its a Furturistic setting where society and progress are at a stand still.  No food .. no nothing.  The only food available is.. Soylent Green.  What most of society doesn't know,  Soylent Green is made from people!

Rob,... lol.. lovely idea.. I can imagine the Dump Trucks for Riot Control.. scooping up people and tossin em back into the truck.. lol.  Of course the movie I saw.. was like in the early 70's.. for all I know there was a 're-make'.. I know when I took my mom the DVD, she said to me.. "I saw the original .. in Black and White"

 oh?

Now as far as those pics of Circus Trains, well that will have to wait.  We're getting ready to go off camping today.  Yes its Father's Day,  9 AM to be exact and I'll be loading up the van as well as mowing the lawn this morning.  I even ask myself, now whats a good time to start mowing the lawn.  As you are laying there in bed .. sunday morning,  what time would you like to hear your neighbors lawn mower going?  I figured, I could start oh.. around 9:45 .. no sooner.

Rob.. Nice loco.. great for your theme.

Jeff,  I don't know if you would even want to hear this, but in short, Jeanne gave a me a helping hand on the van.  LOL,  yep.. charged up the battery and cleaned up the poles and terminals.  And as far as she is concerned.. I didn't tighten down the connectors to the battery poles tight enough and therefore it wasn't doing much.  The van started up.. real strong.  Now I suppose we're going to find out one way or the other.. but as far as she is concerned.. "We're not paying $400 bucks until we now for sure".. lol... woot.. I'll be looking for the heavy duty jumper cables after I get done here.

Ray, I want you to know, one of my pics I posted showed my soldering.. and I said to myself.. "Ah Gheez.. I hope Ray doesn't see that!" .. lol   Every time I solder I think of you .. I did improve on the soldering as I went, but I never went for looks as far as soldering.. I went for the good weld technique. As time went by, and me moving my soldered track around several times,  one soldering came apart, I actually had a 'cold soldering'.

I gotta go.. I'm still waking up.. sorry for the mis-spelling of everything.. just had to drop in ... before we take off.

I might post a few pics of that Dawg.  I just love dogs.  I know I have some here somewhere.

 Good Evening Folks,

only a short stop on the way to bed - my migraine is back. It´s probably a mental thing, but how do I find the rest I need, in times like this?

Zoe, a strong black coffee probably won´t do me any good, but I am having one, anyway. No? You mean - OK, make that a RBF for me, then.

Keith - lovely shots of a cute, but powerful dog!

Rob - keep the loco the way it is - it is a model of a Japanese pre-war streamlined Pacific, but I forgot which class. She is a beauty!

You all have a good one!

Strong coffee in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Ulrich, I was wondering how difficult it would be to convert the rapido coupler (on the tender) to a knuckle coupler. If I owned one, I would not change the looks of it at all. It's very neat the way it is.

***T.S.Fan, saw it on the-bay recently, but did not buy it. It was selling for $250, and for that price, why not pick up a Proto 2-8-8-2 with DCC & sound! (haven't done that either) Also, I suspect that loco is older tech, although not certain.

***Keith, that's another reason for considering the switch from N to HO, modeling that dump truck scene.Laugh That's a must have, for sure. Although modern, been considering a Dash 8-32BH as a cheap alternative to that streamline steamer, painted entirely black of course.Dinner Laugh

See, I CAN justify having both steam & modern diesel after all. With such a crazy layout to begin with and it being mostly scenic, could simply run whichever roster I want on any given day.Whistling

Sat down to start on another circus car kit this morning and sliced deep into a finger with an x-acto knife. Should have figured it wasn't a good time to start after repeatedly dropping parts on the floor.Dunce Nothing a band aid can't take care of.

Hi all! Well it seems like a few of us are making a return. Feels good to be back. I happened to go for a drive and found a hobby shop and picked up a signal tower kit and it sparked my flame again. Just an update on me i recently got engaged to the women of my dreams and thankfully she is very supportive of me getting back into the hobby. Hope to be around alot more.

 Good afternoon.

Went to work today, and came home to finish up one side of the garage.  I haven't done any MRR since last Thursday.  Hopefully Tuesday I can get some stuff done.

Hope everybody has a good evening.

***Adam, CONGRATS! And, welcome back.

***Robby, when you've finished your garage, how about coming over and fixing up ours?Whistling

Wife likes the shed w/ kitties & the new circus cars. I need to find some black thread for one of the remaining kits, as there was none in the box.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Whistling      Yes Jeff, The weather guessers are never better than 50%.

We have had much to much rain in this Province. There is about 60% of the land that will not get planted this year because of the rain.

On the eastern edge of Alberta the Trans-Canada Highway   (#1) is washed out.  Not just water over the road, but about 80 plus yards of the road is gone.  The towns of Irving and Walsh, Alberta have been evacuated.  Some areas are saying they had 13 inches of rain in seven hours,  This area is usually very desert like. Lots of sand hills and rattlesnakes. People are saying that they haven't seen anything like this in 75 years...  A dam south of Maple Creek, SK, has let go and there was over two feet of water everywhere in town, They evacuated the Hospital and they wer attempting to do the same with the Nursing Home, but the Ambulances couldn't get out of the yard there. However that turned out OK as the water didn't get to the home.  And there is more rain to come.  I hope the guessers are wrong this time.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY  to all you old Grunts, I hope you have a wonderful day with Family and friends.

I'm on my way out to have supper at my Son's.  So I'll drop back in later.

 Evenin' Folks!

Flo just a decaf please.  I'll be in the back booth relaxing.

What a day!  And a Happy father's day to all you Dad's out there!  I took off for the museum bright and early this morning.  Today was Railroad Day out there complete with diesel and caboose rides. We also had 4 or 5 demos going on at the museum of various railroading things.  All told I spent 7 hours w*rking on the train crew.  I learned how to uncouple cars and helped on one side of the caboose while another did the other side of the track on the engine it was coupled to.  Then after doing a brake test which failed, recoupled the gladhands so air wasn't leaking, we did another brake test which passed and headed off up the hill for our "test run".  About a half mile up the line, the brakes went into emergency and I noticed the other caboose was left about 20 feet down the track from us......  The car host on the other caboose had never set the hand brakes before and got a quick lesson from the conductor.  I immediately set the ones on my caboose.  Ended up with 3 of our mechanics coming up to check everything out.  Seems like the coupler wasn't completely set and locked together properly when set out at the end of running last Thursday.  By the time the mechanics arrived we already had her reconnected, checked and the air test complete.  We were however now seriously behind schedule, so we ran without the test run......  Learned some good things today about prototype operations!

We were packed with visitors for Father's day today.  Lots and lots of kids as well.  Had to 300 or more riders during the day.  My caboose alone had at least 5 runs with over 20 people in it.  We were running two cabooses and our 80 tonner.  Most runs had 5 or 6 people riding in the cab as well.  Got some great smiles from some of the "Honored Dads" when they found out they could get a cab ride.  Big, big grins!!!  All in all I stood up for close to 7 hours.  Took 20 minutes off for lunch and got to just sit and veg when we deadheaded back down after the last run.  My feet hurt......Whistling

The high point of the day was when a little girl (Of Indian ancestry - as in India) about 6 or 7 got off the caboose at Midway, went over to the tall grass on the side of the ROW and plucked a bunch of the flowers of the grass.  Came back over and gave it to me with a big grin.....!  Made my day as well as all the rest of the crew who thought it was very sweet.  I made sure I held on to it until she got the trolley and was underway.

As soon as got home I called my son to wish him a happy Fathers Day and got invited over for desert.  So I got a couple of cards and presents from my son and his wife and my 2 beautiful little Granddaughters.  Grandpa got to play with both granddaughters for an hour or so, had a great time, and is now officially exhausted for the day.  My son and DIL gave me a "Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America" Button/tack (I assume it is either a cuff link or a lapel button) and a "Constitution and General Rules book of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen dated1931.  It appears to be in excellent condition!  Neat huh?

Hope every one of you had as good or even better Fathers Day!

Later!

Good morning all,

Happy belated father’s day to all!

I had a bit of a disappointing day, no cards, no phone calls.  My Son sent me a TXT message (hearing impaired so he can’t call), however I thought I would get something a phone call or a card or something from Samantha, my daughter.  So I did a bunch of yard work this weekend since we didn’t get any storms Dorothy and I just chilled and played computer games (KoC on FB)  and watched movies on Saturday.

Jeff, I hope you have before pictures because I think the after pictures will be very impressive.

 Good Afternoon Folks,

a belated "Happy Father´s Day" to all fathers among us! In Europe, we celebrate Father´s Day much earlier in the year, usually on Ascension Day. It´s a good excuse for a lot of people to consume huge quantities of beer, so that´s why I prefer to stay off the roads on that day!

I am just back from my visit to Hamburg´s Miniatur Wunderland. I have not been there for a while, so there was lots to see. We spend about 3 hours in there and just had a look at those new parts we had not seen before. The Swiss part is very impressive by its sheer size and masses of little scenes and detail, but lacks a lot realism in my humble view. The rock faces are a little crude and there are just too many tunnels, so the mountains look a little like Swiss cheese to me. I don´t like the transition between the valleys and the high mountains - it looks too steep for my eyes, but maybe I am too critical. I like the Scandinavian part with its winter scenes in Norway and the Swedish port a lot more. Incredible, how big ships are in HO scale. They move slowly and silently around, being R/C controlled, with a young (and beautiful) lady commanding them. The automated control system is not yet working - it still lacks the accuracy to compensate for the little water movement caused be the ships´ props. Funny, though, how unrealistic real water looks like! It is way to clear and clean, but any attempt to color or even tint it, have failed so far.

It was a worthwhile visit, but I also have to say, that it does not meet the level of quality and realism of some of the work shown in MR or in this forum. But maybe I am just too spoiled!

Zoe, make that a baloney and cheese sammich for me, and a Dr. Pepper to wash it down!

A hearty Sign - Welcome to you, Cheese3, from the other side of the Big Pond!

Morning. Just coffee thanks. No time for breakfast, I'll wait till lunch to eat.

Hectic day yesterday. Our children were switched between Lee and I. WAIT! Not that way, I mean I got a phone call from my daughter, but didn't hear from the son. Oh well, he's got kids of his own and I suppose I could have called him. Oh well, as long as he never misses Mothers Day, I'll be alright with that.

G- Here's my gift haul               . Oh, I do have a card from my daughter, next time I'm in town I can pick it up.

Adam- Sounds like Sign - Welcomeback? Good to have you.

Hectic day yesterday as I said. Mom called at 3:00 pm, 1 hour before I had to go to work as the only person up front to wait on customers and all others (2) were unavailable due to out of state, to say she has fallen again. Luckily Brenda was home because without me the restaurant could not open. Yes, we picked her up from the stalag at noon Saturday and she was fine all day. Great actually. Went to eat at Ryan's went to the house, drove around and took her home about 5. She wanted to rest in bed and sent us home. Other than going to the bathroom she said she didn't get out of bed until 1pm Sunday because the bed felt so good after the 4 weeks of hospital/nursing home beds, she just wanted to lay there and nap. 2 hours later she's on the floor, can't get up and Brenda is on the way in. Takes her to hospital, and luckily nothing is broken, so they send her home. Again. Brenda brings her to our house and before she can get her in the house, she passes out. Twice. The second time she got scared when her breathing changed to raspy and her lips turned blue and calls the Rescue Squad. By the time they got there mom was awake and chatting just fine. They took her right back to the hospital and this time they kept her. I don't know what to do. She is constantly in and out of the hospital and I don't think should be left alone. Problem is, she DOES NOT want to live with us as a burden (she says, not us) Says that's her worst nightmare is the Mother/ MIL who moves in with her kids and becomes a burden to them. (again her words not mine) She can't afford the assisted living places, she can't afford people to come in, I can't be there all the time even if she were to move in and keep our house from getting repo'd and the lights on, if you know what I mean, (I kinda need to work) and I can't, no way, put her in a Stalag. It's bad enough for therapy.

I'm just plum worn out. Don't eat right, no time, lost about 20-25 pounds in the last 6 months to a year. Tired all the time both mentally and physically   (siiiiigh). Sorry guys, every once in a while I just need to vent off some stuff, sorry I was in here at the time, but thanks for listening .

Hey! At least Toddland (of which I'm king) takes me away to a land that is mine all mine. Too bad I don't have much time to spend there. But sometimes when I get a few minutes or things work out for a day or maybe two, after a nap of course, I'm there. Gives me something to look forward too anyways.

Welp, best get a move on, I'm behind schedule already.

Have a Great Day!!!

 Mornin' everyone!

What Zoe?  Yes I am moving this morning, just a bit slowly.  I think every joint in my body has seized up.....  But I am up and moving, so I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with some NYS Maple Syrup of course, and a cup of your finest dark roast blend in a FGLK Mug.

Todd sounds like you had quite a day with your Mom.....  Too bad she can't get into an Assisted Living Facility.  One of the few that will take Medicaid is in the town of Geneva and is a very nice place.  We ended up putting my mom in an ALF after my dad died.  She spent 4 years there before falling and breaking her hip.  Hopefully you can convince her that living with you would be easier than what is happening now.  Anyway, I have some idea what you and Brenda are going through and have you all in my prayers.

Ulrich, sounds like you had a good day!  If I ever get to Germany, I will make Miniatur Wunderland a must see place.  My #2 son and his partner just returned from a vacation to Paris and then to Berlin for the wedding of a college friend of his.  They both loved the sights in both countries.

As usual I way too much to get done today.  Going to stop at the County Clerks office in Canandaigua to renew my passport and will drop off some fliers to my sister for her Summer Art Lessons she gives every Summer.  I took a quick look at the garden and it is time to do some weeding.  I need to get some more w*rk done on the trailer and do some shopping, etc. etc. etc.

Oh!  Happy Summer to all of you on the North end of the planit....!Big Smile

[edit] Just received an email from the R&GV Museum.  Headcount for yesterday is officially 318 visitors! (My guesstimate was right on the money.)  Very good day!  The demos were: Morse Code, Trainman Hand Signals, Coupling/Uncoupling, Handing up Orders.  All well received and easy to do.

Catch you all later!

Ray -despite all critique, Miniatur Wunderland itself is worthwhile going to Germany. I´d be happy to give you my personally guided tour throughout Hamburg - including lots of railroadiana to see! And - a nice dinner, made by Petra (that´s one thing you can never book through a travel agency)

I´d be happy to have you with us!

Todd - seems, as if we are in the same boat there. My parents know, that they will not be able to live in their house for much longer, as my mom can´t cope with the slightest household chore anymore. But any discussion towards moving closer to us and into some senior citizen facility leads first into a nirvana of arguments and second into some harsh words from my parents (which I try to avoid by ending the discussion before that could happen). I guess we just have to grin and bear it, although it hurts sometimes. After all, we do care!

Quite a nice day, actually, for the first day of summer!

See you!

Well I'm almost done cutting grass, and its pretty humid today!  After that, its a trip to the LHS.   Hopefully tomorrow I can get the one boxcar done.

Also here's a picture of the garage my wife and I have been working on.   You can see what a difference the one door has!!  We hope to have it done Saturday.

Adam, welcome back! Well, haven't done much on the MRR front. I have been doing some scenery work on one end of north branch and painting some DPM kits. either today or tomorrow I hope to have the painting finished and to also have some more scenery done. after that there should be some pics. In other news I've decided what I want to add to the loco roster and I've also replanned my loco paint scheme. I drew inspiration from these two South Carolina railroads. The colors are different though, and it doesn't follow either paint scheme to a T: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=323188&nseq=0 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=309054&nseq=4

Extra strong Italian roast coffee in a  SANTA FE  mug, please.

***Barry, NEAT pics!

***Ulrich, that was a humorous review of Miniatur Wunderland. I would still love to see it in person. And any part of the layout that might be lacking would be more than compensated by the live show of that particular ship Commander at work.Smile,Wink, & Grin

***Todd, hang in there friend! It can be mighty tough on all involved. We understand this from personal experience.

***Jerry, nice find and I agree with you, it looks fine.Thumbs Up

***Packers, you won't miss that color scheme coming down the tracks.

My wife's second cousin Raymond Parks died. For NASCAR fans (of which I am not), here is the article:

Rob, to best describe it the SC CEntral paint scheme is the basis, with the trim line like the white on the Lancaster and Chester units. the colors are black on top, then gray as trim, then CB&Q red as the bottom. lettering will be white. I drew it up on a GP35 and SD35 from Michael Eby's trainiax.net but I don't have the permission to post them online (they're free to be used for personal use though). I nvr heard of Raymond Parks, but I love NASCAR. Sounds like he basically got it started for France sr.

LSWrr

Jeff, I hope you have before pictures because I think the after pictures will be very impressive.

Here's before repainting:

And here's after the first repaint. More black has been added along the sides.
