Tall glass of cool lemon water, please.

***Todd, appreciate the "wait". I did decide to do just that. Noticed just a hint of lightening in the "dirt". Have doubts about the ground foam changing much though. Time will tell. Another thing I figured out after viewing a video clip of WS cement being spraying, it should "mist". Mine kinda streams or squirts out drops of wet glue. Perhaps my ground foam is becoming toooo saturated with glue? Going to look for a new spray bottle.

 Good evenin',

ROB: Well, I'm several hours behind everybody else THAT's weighed-in on your "darker" scenery. I agree 100% with TODD...just let it sit for a few days, then re-evaluate. As it dries, it "should" lighten back up again.  One thing I picked up over the years, the 50/50 mix tends to puddle, and "splurt" out. Add a drop, or two, or three...of dish soap. It'll break down the surface tension of the water...makes "wet water." Makes it soak in better, which I guess is the theory behind soaking stuff in alcohol first. And yeah, it's awful darned easy to really soak it. In the past, when I did THAT...I just tossed on another layer, or two, or three, or.... well, you get the point; to soak it up. Not bad if you want some dense turf. Not so cool if its supposed to be a well-maintained lawn.

TODD: Your twister and the weather guessers sounds a lot like a story my favorite uncle told me about the clowns on a Topeka TV station. Their fancy-schmancy color weather radar (as they called 'em back in the 70s/80s) wasn't quite calibrated right. The south side of Topeka was getting blitzed, but the clowns were on the air saying "no, no...the storm is well to the north of here!"Shock Oops

THAT's why, when it comes to severe weather, I trust my eyes and ears more than some geek on TV. Heck, one local station has a guy who looks like Beaker from "The Muppet Show!" He's about as excitable too. They really do put on a show, and once in awhile, they're actually close to right. But, I've found it's a good 10-15 minutes between hearing a spotter report on the scanner, and the geeks getting it on the air. Some of THAT is a dispatcher or the local Emergency Mis-management Agency having to call the NWS, and NWS trying to get in touch with other spotters (like SKYWARN, the hams, the CB-ers, etc.) to confirm what some silly firefighter thinks he sees. But, in THAT 10-15 minutes, the storm THAT was just west of Mechanicsville can be right on my doorstep, or (usually) east of me and bothering Lowden before the clowns say anything about it!!!

Heck, they dropped a tornado warning on us last year, and the storm was already in Clinton county (east of us) when it came across the radio/Cedar County paged us out for storm watch. We had blue skies and sunshine. Wheatland (east of Lowden) had some minor damage from it though, so Lowden lucked out.

Which reminds me, we've got storm spotter training coming up Monday evening. Had a TV geek do it back in '95 for the Linn County Firefighters' Association monthly meeting. The genius holds up a golf ball and says "this is how big golf ball sized hail would be." Really? Are you sure about THAT? Whoda thunk it??? This time, we're getting someone from NWS Quad Cities.

I'm betting the Doc kidnapped, hog-tied, and has otherwise incarcerated JEFF in the hos-i-pital.

Welp, it's 0001, I've had a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng evening/night of school board crap...I'm "Audi 5000" as the hip kids say...

G'nite!

Insomniac Breakfast Special, please.

***Ulrich, how was that chocolate egg liqueur cake? My brother has fond memories from when he lived in Hamburg at age 16. He visited a couple years back and said it was still a nice city.

Thanks for the scenery insight guys! Much appreciated. I may still take much of it up and start from scratch. Need to find out what my wife thinks of the mess it.

How do you improve the looks of ready-made trees? Seems there is a process using glue and dirt or paint and dirt to treat the trunk & underside of branches, but I don't recall where I saw it done or any of the details? Maybe an old issue of MRRing mag?

 Good Afternoon,

just a short visit here, as the young folks keep us busy Big Smile

Zoe, make that a big cup of cafe au lait for me, I have to stay away from the stronger stuff for a little while, my doc says.

I am worried about Jeff - yes, there maybe a power or internet outage or the Doc has kept him in hospital, but I am still worried and miss him.

Rob - I have just taken a picture of this wonderful cake, which will be having in a couple of hours - it is not coffee & cake time yet!

Busch or Heki are producing foliage, little leaves, you can use to enhance your trees with. Just spray on some glue and sprinkle that stuff over it- that´s all it takes.

CUL, folks!

Good Morning All,

48 and cloudy with the high predicted at 54F. I'll have a regular and an English muffin please. Checked the trailer paint job in New Jersey yesterday (it looks new) and paid for itSigh. Now that the semi has returned, i can arrange to get it back here to finish the renovations on the interior. Other than that we have the usual going on and I'm back working on my Focus to see if I can get it to the painters next week. I'm currently installing the Wilwood brakes I got for it and changing over to aftermarket braided teflon brake hoses as well. Plus of course the Cooper Monaco.

If the sketches work out, I'm thinking of a folded dogbone layout but with a full loop above for a second level. I just need to ensure I can access everything hopefully without a duckunder or access hatch. Another swing gate is a possibility though.

Time to pick up tools and get to w..k.  Catch y'all later.  J.R.

Good morning.  Its sunny, but the rain is coming.

Not much planned for me today.   I am working on a "chessie" hopper, but I am painting the "patch" spot.  I don't know how that will come out.  Micro scale has something called "trim film" but it seems like mine has gotten old.   So hopefully the paint will look good.

I will pop back in later!

Good morning all. Lumberjacks breakfast please, ‘caaaause.....(breaks into song) IIII'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day. I cut down trees. I skip and jump. I...... Sorry I get carried away every time I put on a flannel shirt. Coffee too thank you.

Rob- I don't recall anything about dirt or glue, but I do know if you lightly dry brush the trunks and the limbs with light grey ( or is it gray. They really need to make up my mind) or even white lightly here and there it makes the trees more looking like real ones.

As far as the "mister" goes. Unless I'm fixin to do a large area, I don't mess with it. I use an eyedropper most times when I'm ballasting and working in fairly small areas. Sometimes somewhat large. The spray bottle always globs up, sprays heavy and either displaces large areas of the foam if I'm too close, or falls like rain, which is good, but doesn't cover well and displaces small little craters. Plus I get it everywhere in the vicinity in places I don't want it to go like buildings etc. PLUS I spend more time cleaning the spray head than I did using it before it pulled it's first piece of thicker glue into the tube and semi clogged.

Yes I know you have to be smarter than the things you're working with, but I gotta do with what I got.

Have a Great Day!!!

Zoe I'll just have bowl of Hot Cream of Wheat with a touch of brown Sugar to go with my dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug please.  I'll be in the front booth watching the yard w*rk outside.

Lumberjacks breakfast please, ‘caaaause.....(breaks into song) IIII'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day.

"He's a Lumberjack and he's OK, He sleeps all night and he works all day....."

It is currently 47°F under fair skies here in the Finger lakes this morning.  May get up to 55°F later this afternoon.  About all we have right now of the white stuff on the ground consists of small piles in the smae places where we had 2 or 3 foot deep piles a week ago.  By tonight there should be only a bit left in places where the sun can't get to it.  Bet my daffodils are up by the porch.  I'll check when I go out this afternoon.

I have to limp up to my sister's house and feed her cats for the next week.  Toe feels a bit better this morning.  Still swollen, but not as tender.  Hopefully I have turned the corner and will be improving.   Gout is NOT FUN!Grumpy

I too wonder where Jeffrey has been and do hope he is OK.  Probably the storms in the area have taken out his internet access.

TMarsh
Ray- I didn't know we were not supposed to put photos here. I thought it was the "non-RR" photos we were supposed to limit. Oh well. Hm. I'll take my chances and let the mods tell me when enough is enough, (I don't think I'll post too many anyway) I don't feel intimidated with you guys. Wait, I don't think that sounded right. What I mean is, you guys help without the insults. Something like that. You know what I mean. Hope the gout eases up soon.

Todd you are probably right about the photos.  And, very true about the guys in here!  I tend to only put one or two photos in here where in WPF I will put 4 or 5 up.  One nice thing about using Photoshop is THAT I can put a fairly large photo size (dimension) that is a small file (By lowering the "quality" when saving (compression).  So what I do put up often has a smaller file size than what some other people are putting up even with "smaller" photos....  Did THAT make sense?

Well I best be moving along.  Lots of stuff to do today....

Later!

  "Good Mornin~"

Sunny.. bright.. warm.  Yes  spring has almost sprung.  Well~ in about oh.. 3 weeks.. the sun crosses over the equator.  If you notice.. the sun sets later already,  and seems like the process is speeding up.

Todd... lol.. Quote:  ".... Sometimes you have to do somethings you'd like to do later, now. So often the cart before the horse is a necessity. Also, I like rocks and couldn't care less if it's prototypical to the area you're modeling or not. Like I said, you will never hear me say "it shouldn't be" in your world. Have at it!"
You couldn't have put it any better.  Don't I know it.

100_0974.jpg picture by Blazzin55

If you look to the upper right.. you'll see houses.  Well they don't go there.. its just for quick reference and sorts.

But those houses are resting on one heck of a long bridge.. or some type of 'ridge runner' path.  What ever the case.. I have to reach up there .. from the bottom to top for support (not real support.. but something has to hold the bridge) and hopefully looks.

So I stayed up late last night working on the layout.  Feeling good.. ya know.. "Have at it"  Feeling pretty proud this morning I said to Jeanne "How does it Look!"?

she replied.. "Great.. I really like it.. the face of the rock .. looks like an elephant.

  "Oh?"

  "Doh~!"

I wear high heals, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flowers.....

Ray- Oh I see you were refering to photo heavy posts. Photos are OK (even a few not RR are alright) but the bulk in WPF. Yep, that's the way I took it too. By the way, for some unknown reason, I understood.Laugh

Just stopped in to see if Jeff made it in. Last time he was on his forum was just after he was here Monday night.Confused

Hello.......  knock, knock.....  HELLO!  Anyone around here?  Oh Janie, you're here.  kinda quiet this afternoon huh?  I'll have a RBF to tide me over to  supper time.

Keith, rocks are looking good so far.  "I see said the blind man (who couldn't see at all), That the Elephant is very much like  a wall......."

Fed the cats at my sister's.  Her monster cat actually came over to me when I was sitting in a chair, rolled over on her back on the rug, which means, "I want my belly rubbed...!"  So I reached down and she let me rub her tummy for a bit.  I watch very carefully any time I try to pet this cat as she can change from lovey to "Terrorist" mode in a fraction of a second.  This is the first time she has ever let me rub her tummy when my sister is away.  I think she is getting old and may not be feeling up to par (she has some kidney problems).  The other "outside" cat was sitting patiently on the porch hoping I would come by and fill his dish.  He was very glad to see someone and have some food.  (I think I was supposed to go up there yesterday as My sister may have left Tuesday evening rather than yesterday.  Anyway both cats are fine.

OH, BTW it made it up to 62°F this afternoon!  THAT is 6° below the altime record on this date for Geneva.  The white stuff has all but disappeared!

My foot is starting to feel much better today, so I hope the worst is over for the moment.  I plan to have a long talk with my doctor about meds next time I see him!Grumpy

Well, I sure hope business improves for you Janie!  Nice chatting with you.  And leave THAT note for Kieth when he comes back in.

Hello my friends!

Sorry about the photo heavy post yesterday.  I sat for over an hour, just couldn't do them justice!

Wish I had remembered that the video camera also can do still shots BEFORE I went to New Hope to get "prototype" shots.... Banged Head

Chloe, may I please have a BLT on Rye with a RBF and a Hot Fudge Sundae for dessert?  Thank you!

Well, I think I will be heading out after I finish my meal, I haven't gotten very good sleep this week, only about 4 hours a night.  My body is telling me it's exhausted and wants to "recharge".  Going to take a nap before the wife gets home from work at 7:30.

Sam

Afternoon Gang: Well I'm coming down with a head cold. At least it feels like one. Just what I need.

I got all my guns off the layout and moved to a closet. Now I need to find a place to put all my VHS tapes so I can get them off the layout. After that I may be able to work on the layout. Maybe.

I got prices on pipe and stuff for the water line to the corrals. If we can get a break from the rains and it drys up some I'll be able to get that done. Then it's back to fences. Allways fences, fences, and more fences. And then there's repairing the fences. Banged Head

Right now I need to get back to working on the material list for the water line.

You all take care.

Sounds exactly like the Wife's "terrorist cat." THAT's part of why I call it "the step-cat," "the Wife's cat," etc. and not "our" cat. In fact, the SoapBox thing bit me on my first date with Kit. She was still getting ready (imagine THAT) so I decide to be friendly to the friendly-looking cat. The cat let me pet it for exactly 14-and-a-half seconds before it reared up and bit the back of my hand. THAT is one situation THAT hasn't changed in the past 7 years...

And she wonders why I'm willing to let Rerun "mitigate the cat situation." He HATES the cat...the cat hates him. I hate the cat, the cat hates everybody. I think Rerun would be more than happy to show her the door...or his teeth, real up-close and personal-like.Mischief

Back to w**k, I've cranked-out some content for THAT, gotta crank out some more yet.

Have a good'en...

Welp, for "hating on the cat" I get to buy late lunches and early suppers... order up guys! Poor Janie looks to be falling asleep at the counter!

Good Afternoon Everyone

J.R. - You are correct sir. I do model the SP. I like the Oregon Division in general but have not settled on any particular branch yet. Unlike me, your fortunate enough to be able to visit your 'road' whenever you want to. For me it means a big road trip so I have to rely on what I find in books or through research. Are you concentrating on commuter service or freight?

Howmus - I'm glad to hear your foot is feeling better. Somethings you can deal with when they bother you but its hard to get around when your feet hurt.

Well the wind is picking up here, they are calling for about 4" of rain over the next few days. Maybe I'll get to put in some quality time on the Laundry room and maybe even get something done for the layout too.

Decaf coffee in a  BURLINGTON NORTHERN  mug, please.

***Paul, sometimes I rely on weed growth, a steep drop off or fast running creek to delay the inevitable fence repairs. I'm getting way way behind on them these days. Need to buy a new post-hole digger bit, as the one I have on it now grabs so hard it gets stuck stuck stuck. Could use a bigger tractor, but that isn't going to happen in my lifetime.

Evening ya'll

The therometer finally hit the 70 mark. Guess I better start saving my money so I can get the AC in my car filled up again. Spring break is starting to kick in. When I didn't have a job, I loved it. Now that I do, I hate the whole tourist season (which is almost all-year around here, but isn't too bad in the winter)

Some of the other diners a while back commented that kids these days don't behave much. I think I may have found why. In my psychology class (yet another thing required for a degree, but I'd never use in mechanical engineering) an instructor and psychologist from FSU came in and played a tape of a session. We were asked to comment on a child's misbehavior (pinching when not getting his way) and why the treatments were or were not working. The answers they were looking for were let him do what he wanted, he asked nicely, or keep him from having his way until he stopped misbehaving...

I suggested that the child's mother should try a belt when telling him to stop wasn't working. Sure enough, that got me labeled as abusive, violent, and some went as far to say that I should never have kids of my own. What's funny is that those people are the ones complaining about their kids misbehaving or have kids from several different spouses. All the military students in the agreed with me that belting would help. Guess the whole thing is just weird stuff I don't really understand yet.

Chris, you said you found that portec hopper article right? Would you mind send it my way?

Sawyer, I actually forgot about the Viper. That probably could stand a chance against an F430, GT, or Z06. Throw a GT-R in that mix for good measure since I saw one of those yesterday.

Sam, I'll take Robby's suggestion with the car (and a few others) to use them for practice cars. As for the engines, the AHM is a GP18 (some later GP9s looked like early GP18s, but I think the 18s had flat-top fans), the Tyco is a GP20, and the SF and CN units are both C-liners. The Soo hopper is an ore car.

Anyone seen Jeff lately?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening, Chloe - yeah, I'm ready for a glass of wine, please - yep, Finger Lakes. Let me see, I'll have the chicken tetrazini, asparagus, and peaches. Thank you, I'm kinda pooped tonight (and hungry - no lunch today).

Jerry, nice trees there (and pretty much simplicity for making, I'd guess). As was said, you can't tell from the photo. Thumbs Up

Rob, it sounds like your farm is a lot like the 'after' pics of Max Yasgur's farm (after Woodstock...). Shock As for your question on ready-made trees, most of them that I have (or have seen) can stand 1) taking a saw blade and 'scraping' the trunk for some more texture, and the 2) get a fairly dry brush with a grey-brownish color and only hit the highest parts (from inside to the outer surface) of the 'bark'. Most tree trunks on ready-mades are way too dark compared to what I see in real life. My My 2 cents, anyhow.

MarkP. that looks like one scrumptuos dinner - for any day, St. Patty's or otherwise!

Espee, yeah, this can be a talky bunch in the Diner! Smile,Wink, & Grin What've you been up to since last time in?

Todd, glad to hear you're about done at Mom's house (and I'm sure the local fire department is, too Whistling So, what will you do with all that extra time on your hands now?

Ray, how are your feet doing lately - better? Hope so soon, at least! Maybe you're getting through to the 'better' side of your sister's cat?

Uh, Todd, Ray - is that Gilbert and Sullivan? Wink Oh, sorry, forgot that the 'lacy' verses later on aren't true G&S...

Elephant Man - er, I mean Keith - making some headway on the rock w**k there. Yeah!!

Paul, at some point hopefully you'll have things cleared off of the layout. I'm guessing that you've taken down any and all fences that you don't absolutely have to have, right? I am figuring that they'd stay up longer if the bulls didn't use them for back scratchers. I know my buddy Mark (on his farm) had that problem with fences. But when the bull wanted to visit the neighbor's cows, even the electric Shock fence didn't faze THAT bull. Ah, springtime love...

Okay, Chef Ryan - if you're going to be away so long, you know your really should bring some yummies with you, right? What've you been up to while you were away? Is the Cajun Chef site doing so well that you haven't time, or have you been hired on with 3DPlanIt for their support division? Good to see you in the Diner again, whatever kept you away!

Kinda busy day again at w**k today. Right about as I was thinking about going to lunch, the gal up front calls me and tells me that three people have shown up and are filling out paperw**k, so I shouldn't plan on going to lunch just yet. Banged Head Had I gone about 15 minutes earlier than that, I would've been back in time, since they took about 40-45 minutes to get done (maybe less, when I went up front to see, there were three sets of my copies waiting for me (nobody bothered to let me know, of course...). SoapBox  And as I'm finishing up the last one around 4:10 or 4:20 p.m., the evening gal for up front tells me that the other gal (now about to leave - she *never* stays late) said there was someone for me to triage (see if they are in crisis or if they can come back in the morning during our regular walk-in hours (which officially ended at 2 p.m....) Ah, well, at least I am OFF w**k now.

Ray (and other Scouts/former Scouts) - you may find this interesting. I got to thinking today about whether there were any Scouting-related apps (iPhone or iPod Touch). Turns out there are, and you can get the Boy Scout Handbook (for your iPhone or iPT). A little costly, but hey, you save lugging THAT heavy Scout Handbook along (and it's all on your device, so you don't even have to have any cell signal or WiFi nearby...) (But I don't think you can light your campfire with it ). Ah, technology...Laugh

I'll get to my dinner and watch the evening switcher doing its run. Hope we get word back from Jeff soon.

Blessings and Prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Evening all, I brought in left overs from dinner tonight!

Amy found the recipe for a great homeade chicken pot pie that you can make in the crockpot.  I had a half-bowl and that's all I could eat, its soooo good!

Well y'all eat it up.

Vincent, I agree with you on the belting...my oldest gets told once, and after that if she doesn't listen, I will normally give her a swat on the hind end to correct her.  Most parents end up being afraid of their kids that "discipline" goes out the window because people are afraid of what "others" will say.  Oh well....best not say much more before the soapboax comes a running out on me!

Guess I'll just have a RBF, thinking that I'm going to be working on trying to get a "correct" # for my SD40-2 (yes, I'm still working on getting it "right").

Good evening Diners: I'm finally caught up to page 30, but this post only goes to page 29!

Rob:

Question, would you folks use the lights that come in a ready-built structure or replace them with LEDs? I am even thinking of running 2 sets of wires for both types, with the LED as the back-up for when the grain-of-whatevers burn out. Thoughts?
It depends, for me, on which bulbs / LEDs I have on hand and therefore don't have to buy fresh. Cutting down the voltage to incandescents increases the life significantly, as well as giving a less harsh lighting effect, helping with heat issues at the same time. Trickier to do with LEDs, I think, but not impossible - "variable lighting" in locos is done with both bulbs and LEDs.  I like the switchback road scene.Thumbs UpBTW, Do you know if those HO apple trees are available in N?

Ulrich:

- shunting back and forth, if you pardon the British expression.
...But of course old chap! - What else could it possibly be called? Wink
Well, this would have worked nicely, if the traversers are long enough to hold a loco plus at least two coaches and there would still be some room next to the traverser to "park" a loco. Both traverser are way too short for that type of operation! So, it´ll mean back to the drawing board! But Í have to watch out, not to get caught in that analysis - paralysis thing again.
...which was behind my question last week about the TimeSaver    [whistle] - but the one traverser set could work well too. Would there be enough room on the track to the right of the far right turnout? (EDIT- I see you've pretty much resolved all that  now)  BTW, that's really great about the MR subscription, and our thanks to who-ever-that-is. Bow May your tribe increase!
we did have "Kartoffelpuffer" or potatoe pancakes for lunch, with home-made apple sauce. Yummy!
...Kris used up some surplus Humus in potato cakes last night - with a side of steamed mixed veggies - terrific!Dinner
schokoladen eierlikör torte
Can't wait to see what Petra's version is like - seems there is a variety of "finishes" from which to choose! Approve

Barry: We've had that news about OPP Officer Vu Pham and the shootout, but not the details you've been able to provide. Feel really bad for his family and collogues.

Everything seems to be OK here---no bust pipes but boy do we have POTHOLES! Our street looks to have been chewed on by asphalt eating critters of some type.
The Department of Holidays came down our gravel road the other day about dusk and dumped a truck load of crumbled asphalt more or less in the middle, a short ways down from us. A couple of cones to "mark" it, and left. Did I mention it was dusk...and asphalt? It was hours later that a grader came, it was quite dark by then, to roughly smooth it (if that's not too much of an oxymoron [a legal oxymoron Jeff Clown]) onto the road surface. Fortunately for all concerned the road isn't heavily traveled. What were they thinking? That the black of the asphalt would contrast enough with the gravel to be seen in the dark?SoapBox Hope "they" get on top of your heart condition sooner rather than later,Angel

CapeJim:

Oh, on the 'police math' question, I would guess that math skills are not a critical skill that's needed a lot
.. Police Math - how about this sample from the Emerald Isle that Flip sent to a bunch of us?
Five Englishmen in an Audi Quattro arrived at an Irish border checkpoint.
Paddy the officer stops them and tells them: "It is illegal
to put 5 people in a Quattro, Quattro means four"
"Quattro is just the name of the automobile," the Englishman
retorts disbelievingly.. "Look at the papers: this car is designed to
carry five persons.""

You cannot pull that one on me," replies Paddy "Quattro means four.
You have five people in your car and you are therefore breaking the law.

The Englishmen replies angrily, "You idiot! Call your supervisor
over I want to speak to someone with more intelligence!"

Sorry," responds Paddy, "Murphy is busy with 2 guys in a Fiat Uno."
Laugh  The fruit and veg stands are very nice - I wonder if they will appear in N any time?

Robby: The BN hopper looks outstanding! As you say, not a rust bucket, but sure is convincing! Thumbs Up

For you muscle car aficionados - and in reference to the recent conversation about NA and Italian muscle -

Chris:

30c? THAT would be... 60-70 something farenheit?
This  is my quick route to that 86 F !- something we rarely see here on Sober Island!

(OZRay this may cool you down some) - from the Gaspésie region of Quebec...and Sign - Dots NYRay's comments on the videos.Thumbs Up ( and Ray I sure hope  that foot heals quickly - far too uncomfortable for anyone).

Back to Chris -

trouble is, I'm trying to stay as close to the real one as I can...within the limitations imposed by Atlas.
...um, then maybe you're stuck with acres of sameness? I know aerial shots of steam era RR structures are thin on the ground, but do you any that show "anybody's" Roundhouse roof?  Thanks for the kind words on the buildings, as usual they don't bear close inspection - but IMHO are now better looking than when bought as used build-up factories! I put off doing stuff like the mortar on brickwork as I psych myself into thinking "I'll get it wrong", with a good dose of "Look at what the real modelers can do" thrown in. I'm glad I bit this bullet finally.

While I was typing this, The ballast was soaking so I could plant the sanding tower etc in position.  I'm also moving the service track in the freight yard a bit towards the front of the layout. That will give more realistic space between  that track and the next one in, with the new sand bin fitting between them in a more plausible way. (THAT's the public excuse, the real reason is that I was too hasty laying the service track on its exit from the turnout, and produced a kink which only came to light when a 6 axel unit refused to negotiate. The 4 axels didn't mind at all! Black Eye )

"hemiola?" Sounds like a medical condition!!!
...and there was I thinking milk pudding - "I'll have a nice warm bowl of hemiola please Zoe!"Tongue

It's called S*A*M*E, don't remember what THAT stands for...

Specific Area Message Encoding - isn't Google wonderful! Whistling

Lee:

A gallon of distilled water will last a lifetime for most of us and it's typically less than $2/gallon.
...ever seeking to cut even the $2 here and there, I think that the (cleanly collected) drippings from a dehumidifier should be pretty much mineral free. We dump ours into the washing machine, saves the well just that little bit.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Keith: Will you be drawing a guide line onto which to lay your decal stripes? Getting them straight would be my major concern, as once dry, they are there to stay.My 2 cents Glad the photo helped. It's an older one (pre-ballasted track) but you are right about  the road contours, so be warned - any little imperfections you don't want showing WILL be accentuated by the lines. Those ramps and rocks are really beginning to pop! Thumbs Up

Jerry: Nice trees, I may have to go a similar route as getting N fruit trees for my orchard scene is proving hard. The ex-China multi-packs never seem to have the right shape/size; and the NA suppliers want an arm(ature) and a leg for very few - and again, not what I'm after. Rob's HO ones look right, but the size is, well, HO!Sigh

Mark: Sign - Welcome back! That corned beef thing looks -well- good enough to eat! DinnerTodd:

The spray bottle always globs up, sprays heavy and either displaces large areas of the foam if I'm too close, or falls like rain, which is good, but doesn't cover well and displaces small little craters. Plus I get it everywhere in the vicinity in places I don't want it to go like buildings etc. PLUS I spend more time cleaning the spray head than I did using it before it pulled it's first piece of thicker glue into the tube and semi clogged.
Yes, trying to spray dilute glue does all of that, so I found a spray bottle which gives a very gentle mist, and use that for soaking down the scenery or ballast with alcohol / water mix, then use your eyedropper idea for the dilute glue. Finding the fine misting spray was the hardest part of that, and it turned out to be a glasses cleaner fluid spray from an optician. Pure luck that THAT particular bottle was a fine mist spray- but it works for me!Yeah!!

My LHS mailed me some brass N Scale ladder stock the other day. A supplier new to them and to me. have a look at some of the goodies they do.

The new sanding tower is planted but the pipe and valve for sucking sand from the covered hopper car is not finished yet.  Also, I've re-aligned  the freight yard service track so the 6 axel units don't derail, and there is now a better spacing for the sand bin between the tracks .

Back to the work bench to finish the sand sucking pipe! Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

(This is for JR, speaking of derailments near buildings....)

His Daddy-my neice's husband-promised me that they'd take him to Flatonia*real soon so he could watch the ChooChoos!!
(*Flatonia,Texas is my old hometown. It's halfway between Houston and San Antonio and Austin and Victoria.Three lines of the old SP merge together there. In the mid 90's,people started coming there on weekends to watch all the action.

When the UP closed down tower 3 in late '96,some folks bought it and moved it a 1/2mile to Downtown where it sits with a former SP Caboose to keep her company as they watch the'5000lb.Canary'-the UP-run through town.

You'd like it.).

Best of luck to you and the youngun'!!!
