Good morning all. Waffles please with reeeeal maple syrup. And coffee thank you.

Fish fry went well according to the guy who drove the fish from the village garage to the church.

Today, well this morning anyway, it's clean up of the township garage. Should take a couple of hours. We have to drain the fryers and use the Hotsy to clean all the stuff, then put away to be brought back out in another two weeks. You'll hear me refer to the place as both the "Village Garage" and the "Township" garage. That's because it is the same building, the village of Williamsville and Williams Township share the same building. It is actually the Townships building now that I think of it. Don't know how the village weaseled their way into it. Probably promised them free water.

Garry- You don't suppose they could make it six times as long do you? I will add your Grand daughters to my prayer list for their fears to be eased.

DerJohn- It's not the coffee and tea that get my saliva glands a flowing, it's the tables full of homemade pies and cakes!!! Oh, my can some of these ladies cook! And, is it usually that breezy in your bathroom?Whistling

Ulrich- Are you saying the bank takes the house and you still have to pay the full balance? Surely not.

Inch- Congratulations on number 24! Hello Earl.

Flip- How's the tan coming? I know what you mean on the prices of some cars out there. I remember when they used to be..... Well, anyway kinda puts a slow down on the building of an empire don't it.

OK, OK, before someone comes busting through the door quoting inflation and rate of exchange, what a rhino' horn is really made out of, and all the other stuff that doesn't have anything to do with whether you can afford something or not but just sounds good to justify something's cost and is supposed to make you go "oh, well I don't feel so bad about the price now" but still can't afford it cause it's too expensive, even though my income is drastically higher and my expenses are proportionally not and I could afford to just stroll down to the local Goldblatt‘s and pick up a train car without having a five minute thinking storm as to whether I reeeally, really need this or something else (loooong inhale) The detail is much, much better and the cost of creating them and manufacturing/ shipping them has risen.

After the garage cleansing I plan on retreating to the basement if I'm allowed. I'm taking down the last part of the old layout. But I really need to clean the place up. It's kinda mess.... Did you ever really look at a dogs eyes when they have the rubber bone in their mouth that you shove treats in for them to chew out? Bones empty, tails wagging, ears are perked, eyes shining, all while sitting quietly and just looking at me. Guess I best get a move on.

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning.   .. Eggs over medium, peppercorn bacon, grits, and biscuits ..Normal size. Please.

Inch ! ... That's good news about Earl. #24. WOW. Do you have a scorecard to keep track of all of them! You have been blessed for sure..... Interesting result of your research .... The C&NC must be from what was once a group of short lines called Indiana Hi-Rail. Connelsville was the HQ for this group of short lines. The company went bankrupt. I recall visting Indiana Hi-rail myself when the bankruptcy was in progress about 15 years ago. Later, I was off doing other stuff, and I never bothered to see what eventually became of those shortlines. The company operated a few Alcos including an ex-Santa Fe "allegator".

Keith ... That's some layout you are building. The locomotives will have to be equipped with GPS sytems so the engineers can find their way.

Chris .... An hour with middle school kids on the loose would be more than I could take now. However, worse than that is an IRS audit. When we have been involved with those things it was always due to errors in the reporting of data to the IRS from companies we are involved with. Eventually, we got through to somebody that it was a data error and got it corrected. Remember, you are guilty until you prove otherwise not once but many times. As frustrating as it was, I never felt like flying a plane into an IRS building like that crazy guy in Austin, Texas.

Ulrich ... I like those steam photos. If you have more, I would like seeing them.

Lee .... Six yellow diesels? Is that for your private road? Have fun with the turntable and roundhouse. Lining up tracks with the turntable can be a chore.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal and a cup of the Organic Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast.  (Man THAT stuff is good!)  I'll go sit in the front booth and watch the mail line traffic trying to get up the hill with wet tracks.

Lots of sand being put down around here this morning.  Salt truck just went by.  Didn't get enough to do any plowing I guess.  We have about 1 inch of new sn*w outside the door with a very light constant showering of very fine stuff going on.  Calling for another 1/2 inch of it by late afternoon.   Just enough to keep the roads wet.

My son hinted he might need some help finishing unloading the trailer today so I am waiting for a phone call.  As soon as we get it unloaded, we need to load it back up with the rest of the "Stuff" he has in the storage unit.  Then he has to find the bill of sale for the airboat and trailer stored there (boat he inherited from his Uncle in Indiana) so he can get the trailer licensed in NYS and tow it to the new house.  This boat has to be kept under cover so he has to make room in the garage for it.

Ulrich, beautiful steam shots!  Thanks!  I feel for you still having to deal with the house.

Keith, you need to take out the T-Rex as it is HO Scale and replace it with one in "n"..........Whistling

Inch, Congrats on the new addition.  Cute little guy!

Catch you all a bit later!

I guess I need to explain a few things for you guys to understand why I am so depressed. This is not a rant, just facts.

Things work differently here in Germany than in the US. In order to get a loan to buy a house, not only you have to render the house as collateral, but you also have to accept personal liability. The banks here do not just "repossess" a house, it is being auctioned off. (kind of a sheriff´s sale thing). Should the sales price not cover the loan, well, then there is still your personal liability, which ends with a debtor´s death or repayment.

Just some figures:

My house was close to 1 million $, I put down a payment of 200 K $ and took a loan of 800 K $, out of which I have repaid (until last year) 400 K $. It will most likely be sold at 300 K $ ( 30 % of market value, the usual price level at auctions), leaving me with a personal debt of 100 K $. Should I ever get a job again, I will have to contribute to this debt any amount I earn which exceeds the minimum income needed for subsistence. My loss is 700 K $.

Legally, I still own the house. This means I am still liable for property tax, public utility fees etc.

In former days, this was called slavery, but it is German reality in 2010.

Do I love my country? Spare me the answer... Dead

Do I like bank people?

Good Morning, Janie, I'll have a Rio Grande mug of coffee and one of those ham, egg and cheese breakfast things, please. Thanks!

Bama, it sounds like your crew wore themselves out (or were sickly, like it sounded Amy was). Hope everybody gets rested up and ready for today's stuff. Thumbs Up

AmanaMedic
...we considered writing our own vows. I was going to vow and swear before God and man to 1) NEVER "fluff and stuff" her...and 2) to always put the seat down. She thought better of all THAT...

Ah, Chris, you should know better than to think you will ALWAYS put that seat down, don'tcha? You would've been setting yourself up for major trouble - Kit saved your bacon many times there by going with the traditional vows. Yeah!! I think on high school 'dances' (can they legitimately call what they do 'dancing'?), if they increased the lighting levels, it would decrease (not totally stop) some of what you observed...Whistling At least at most junior high dances (when my daughter was that age, maybe 10-15 years ago), they are so unsure of themselves that THAT is a certain amount of restraint..

Keith, you are coming along mightily with the layout there! Heck, another week or two and you'll be running trains, I'm sure! (what your big green friend doesn't have for lunch, that is!)Smile,Wink, & Grin

Lee - for you it may not be a w**kday, but it may be for the dog and cat. Wink

Flip, you're up early there (for a non-w**k day) - sorry the elbow was ready to get up before the rest of you was.

Ulrich - nice photos! That first one looks like they had a helper partway back in that train. Good that things are starting toward spring over on your side of the pond, and we are pulling for you. Angel Oh, I'm not sure how it is in Germany, but as far as saying what you think about bank people, in the USA we have the right NOT to incriminate ourselves...(Silence can be golden sometimes)

Vincent, yep, I've put together one (or maybe it was two) P2K kits so far. They have a lot of detail and look good when done (correctly). I actually have a few P2K 50' automobile boxcars I got at a good price off the 'Bay, which look like somebody had a bit of trouble putting together and gave up. I've put them back until I get another one of two similar kits together (and can guess how to best retrieve them). I also previously bought one (assembled) P2K 50' automobile boxcar, to show myself how they're supposed to look when I'm done...Whistling

Inch - congratulations on your 24th grandson (24? Wow!! You have a passle of kids and grandkids around your area)! Had to chuckle about the sister who's already thinking of how to teach Earl 'the ropes' of being ornery.Laugh Thanks for posting the pics of Earl and his folks.

Jeff, does that most recent pic of the Seaboard boxcar have the new color(s) on it? I'm thinking that some of the streaks and such are different from yesterday's photo of it.

Robby, the good thing on your new customer is, you don't have to go buy the hoppers (he is sending them to you, right?). Thumbs Up Good that things will wind up covering that covered hopper - is there a chance you can take it back to the LHS for credit/exchange?

Todd, I'm guessing that DerJohn was meaning the breezes outside of the bathroom, rather than any inside of it. Whistling At least, the windows looked like they were closed in the video... Happy degreasing today.

Ray - nah, Keith can just say that ol' Rex there is the (BIG) Daddy to the N-scale one he doesn't have out. Kinda like Rex is looking for Rex, Jr. somewhere on the layout...

Calm Saturday so far, which allowed me to slip in to the Diner for breakfast and catch up. Have been weeding out the free apps I had on the iPod (some were worth about what I paid for them, I found out when I tried them out). And yes, I do have a handful of games on the thing...(of course!)

Hope everybody's got some high ground in the Pacific (including Hawaii) - saw this morning that there was an 8.8 earthquake in Chile and another in Okinawa (7.something), and Hawaii, New Zealand and other Pacific Rim coast cities are on alert. The news I saw earlier this morning was talking about 1 to 2 meter tsunami waves for Hawaii. Might want to include those in Chile and Japan in your AngelAngel.

I'll sit a spell at the RC with the morning crew and sip my coffee.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good afternoon friends!

I didn't have to work today, seeing as the regular engineer called off, and I couldn't get in touch with anyone to see if the extra list engineer was approved... came home and slept another couple hours...

Vincent- Has your bank gotten back to you?  It shows as cleared on this end.  Hope the time flew by at w*rk...

Ulrich- we'll be praying for a positive outcome for your house!

Inch- 24!!!!  I can't imagine that... must be interesting at family gatherings!

Joe- I joined your "site" I liked the photos you have on Flikr... I ronically enough, all the times I have operated and qualified through Red Bank, I have never seen the station until I saw your photo!  Just shows how much I concentrate on what's going on on the tracks and not the surroundings!

Well, off to brunch and then some shopping!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Good mornin',

Welp, hi there Earl! Welcome little man...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, where to begin?

JIM: The dance show was just THAT...dance teams and solo dancers..."dancing" in "Specatcular 2010," the close-out performance of the dance team's season. What I mean is, the moves and outfits...like I and VINCENT said; put a pole up for 'em and throw bills.... These teams start with itty-bitty little kids and go on up to high school. I'm not sure an 8-year-old girl oughta be lying on the gym floor, in a very skimpy outfit, facing the crowd and spreadin'....... Just doesn't seem "right" to me. One high school girl, for her "solo," was....well, caressing herself. I kinda felt a bit like a pornographer shooting her routine... But, the parents seem OK with it... one thing THAT's for sure, IF'n Kit and I have kids, and we have a daughter...she sure as Washington politicians make me ill...will NEVER go out and do THAT kinda stuff!!!!

I forgot already who asked about the "lock-in," ("shut-down" I think he called it). THAT's what the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) calls their twice/year event. The kids have "open gym" (terror in the gymnasium), dancing in "the commons," open computer lab, a room to watch movies in, and pizza/snacks in the cafeteria. Sounds all nicey-nicey.... It was utter, complete, absolute CHAOS!!!!! But, THAT will get some pics, kids get their faces in the paper, mommies and daddies see their kid's face in the paper, mommies and daddies go out and BUY more papers...

TODD: I KNOW the "look:" the ears, tail, shining eyes...know it all too well. I think they teach 'em THAT in puppy school!

GARRY: No, the IRS has us. Chase reported something we didn't know we had to (cancellation of debt through a settlement amount pay-off), which counts as "income."... Unlike our Treasury Secretary, and many Cabinet members though, we don't get "the free pass." WE are expected to pay-up... or make arrangements for installment payments. It's just a little "teachable moment" and "life lesson" for us... AngryDisapproveBanged Head I'm not to the point of flying a plane into the IRS... (funny how so many in the media tried to instantly paint the guy as being "far right," when he had a lot of left-wing ideers in his farewell address...). I AM in favor of abolishing the IRS however...and re-configuring the tax structure.

ULRICH: I'm really likin' them photos...if you got more, please post 'em! I can't tell you how sorry I am about your situation. I agree 100% with you though on the "happy pills." You know, some men would give the mouse a match rather than put up with what you're going through. They keep trying to take your pride and dignity, but you're still a helluva honorable man.

Welp, best get a move-on...time to sort through 50 young teen terrorist photos, and...way too many (429 to be exact) dance show pics. THAT will get trimmed down to a dozen cropped, lightened/color ballenced, processed for printing. The "raw images" will be trimmed to about 50 or so.

Have a good day everybody...Rerun and I will stop-back later for burgers...

Jim......That guy is going to supply the cars.  So I will have to be VERY careful with them.  I was thinking about returning the hopper, but one of the salesman is kinda rude.  I didn't wanna deal with him at all.  I will probably weather it up today, and just put it with a "mix" run.  Plus I don't own any Intermountain.

Uh oh !!! .... Somebody let Jim CG slip in the side door again. How did tha thappen? ... Jim, speaking of earthquakes, I bet once agin you are recalling how close you are to New Madrid.

For those who want to read about the New Madrid earthquake ....  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1812_New_Madrid_earthquake

Chris ... I do agree its time to shift away from IRS and incoem taxes. Sales taxes alternatively would result in our jobs being more competetive in teh global economy. Good luck with your situation. It does not sound fair to me.

Todd ... It's good of you to keep the grand daughters in prayer. I think they will eventually get over it. Their huge dog is defiantely a deterant. ... The monster murderer here may not even have a conscience. So the sooner they execute the better. ... We are praying for yoru family. How is your grandson today?

Ulrich ... Believe it or not, there are lots of people in the USA arguing we should emulate European countries such as Germany in regard to their government and economic policies.  They should read your story, and I bet there are others there in Europe facing similar problems if not even worse. Those numbers of yours look very, very bad to me. I can understand the depression. It's good you can express your feelings instead of bottling them up. I'd hate to see you flying a plane into the offices of your tax agency. Whistling We will continue praying, and we will do all we can to encourage you. I believe God will have a purpose for you and Petra, and He will see you through this situation eventually. In order for you to do His work, it is better not be burdened with money problems. So that's why I have faith things work out eventually. Jesus said "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matthew 19:25-27. You and Petra are good people, and you will get through this. Angel

REally Jeff~  Fill us in.. this is so cool.. I've been waiting for this.  I must admit.. I get up in the morning.. and look forward to seeing pics.

Thanks guys for the kind words.. I really do appreciate it.  Believe it or not.. oh about a week ago.. I came to the realization.. even though no matter how much time and effort.. and money... you put in.. the sad realization.. that I may not have a nice layout like some I've seen.. and end up with some thing else.. well I've came to accept that.  The kind words are a burst of energy.. I really had no idea how much time and effort it was going to take .. this was nothing like 25 years ago.. I swear.... lol.

I've been busy.. yeah.. up to no good.. wanna see~?

A convexed cast?  This is for the layout.. I need and want something like this.  I'm trying to do a 'Lookout Point'  .. with some type of over hanging cliff.  I did it with a bananna~.. lol.    Yeppers.. I laid it down.. taped the mold over and.. painted plaster  on top.. then added some plaster strips for strength.. also it made it very light weight.  Ok.......  Tah Tah for Now~

Keith: Sorry bud, I missed your post. I picked up another color today. It was a mis-tint on the mistake rack so it only cost $1 (half pint). It was supposed to be a color called 'Cup of Cocoa' but it came out a little light. It looks more like dirty chocolate milk and will add to the rust shades. I have 7 colors in the rust category. They all look similar but when applied together on a model the shades stand out from each other even if by a small amount. Real rust isn't all one color so my painted rust shouldn't be either. I think the trick to it is going to be stopping when it looks right, but how do know when it looks right.

I wish I could tell you everything that has raced through my head.  But concerning my wife, and having a trainout.. and money spent.. I had to come up with something nice.  If that makes sense.

But in short.. and I'm only guessing.. but I'd have to say.. I've got two mains..and  one freight line.. that goes half way up .. I don't know how many after that.. maybe only one line.. but all this is going to be continous.    On the first main.. if the loop is completed.. I'd sure like to have it jump onto main number 2,  same thing.. if nothing is done.. is switches over to the freight line.. that also turns into the last and only line that goes up to the top  for two more staging areas.  Some people like switching.. some people like Running Trains~  I wanna run em.  My completion date is March 1st.

So Jeff, I really like the 7 colors pallet.. but tell me.. is there any difference of density applications?

Lighter first.. then dark.. then light over the dark..

or.. dark to light.. or vice versa?    Do you run the colors together on the pallet.. ?

Thanks!

And another question.. do you.. can you?... use Acrylics on top of enamels.. or vice versa.. to get a re-action of the paints not mixing?

I usually use them one at a time. Whether I start with dark or light is dependent on the effect I'm looking for. An area of dark rust with light rust around it would have the lighter color applied first then stepping up to the darker color(s). Dark rust with lighter rust streaming down from it would be applied in a similar fashion. On your question about applying acrylics over enamels, do it when the enamel has dried. Enamel is petroleum based while the acrylics I've used are water based. Water and petroleum don't like to play together.

Jeff.. lol.. no no.. I mean.. well.. lets get back to your quote..: "On your question about applying acrylics over enamels, do it when the enamel has dried. Enamel is petroleum based while the acrylics I've used are water based. Water and petroleum don't like to play together."

I know.. and what if you want them  to mix.. and react.. and bubble.. I mean ..   Won't you get a 3d bubble nasty rusty look from the bubble reaction?

  Thanks!

If anything it may be a little streaky or spotty or the wet enamel and wet acrylic separate.

Ah Jeanne said the two would adhere to one another .. and the acrylic would peal off..  I said.. "heck hit it with dullcote"  Sooner or later the two would dry.. then preserve it.

This was done with two shades, 'Rusted Earth' (darker) and 'Rusty Rail' (lighter). Both are satin latex. They each cost less than $3 for a 7 ounce can. I keep my eyes peeled when at the Lowe's or the paint stores for mis-tints that are close to what I need. I can get those for $1.

LOL- Jeff, if I saw that at a train show, I'd offer $2 only because of the couplers.

Hope you're staying warm, Regards,

Flip

Todd, I'm guessing that DerJohn was meaning the breezes outside of the bathroom, rather than any inside of it. Whistling At least, the windows looked like they were closed in the video... Happy degreasing today.

Oh. Ahem. Sorry.Blush I thought....never mindMischief. And thank you, the degreasing went well.

Ulrich- I’m sorry, we mis understood each other. What I thought you were saying was you would be responsible for the entire loan even though they repossessed the property. Example. You owed $400,000. They took and sold the house for $300,000. You still owed $400,000. I understand what you meant now.  Sounds like over here too.

Garry- Brenda just returned from the hospital and Anthony is doing well. They are watching the cyst that has formed on his Pancreatic gland and if it does not show signs of draining on it’s own they will do surgery to drain it. They are also trying to figure out why his white blood cell count is low, and may consider a blood transfusion as an option pending their findings. He is in pain still, but in better spirits.

Chris- Yup seen the porn dances the kids do. (shakes head) If we did that as kids there be.... well, I don’t know what there’d be. We wouldn’t. At least in publicWinkWhistling. Of course we were disco age. Weird. I liked country then, but that was in the seventies and country music was still good. Some of it is today, but most is just music.

I also believe there needs to be a revamp of the tax system, but honestly, I have no idea of how.

Welp, gotta go, Brenda said suppers ready, she picked up ribs from Hickory River. "Real Texas BBQ" so they say. It's good, not the best, but it's good. Their briskit however is outstanding. Especially for Illinoizians.Dinner
