Good morning. It's 38 and sunny. The high should be in the mid 50's and it will be sunny.

I got the painting on the DPM building done yesterday and assembled the walls this morning. After they've dried sufficiently I'll start on the roof. I have to go to the pharmacy today and get more silvedine cream (antibiotic). Also, the Home Health nurse comes today.

Evenin' folks!

Zoe it has been a long day of dealing with odds and ends.....  So I will have a big mug of decafe to go along with these which were some of the ends I did.....

Well they aren't the ones I made tonight, but they like almost the same.  Tonight they are just plain "toll House" cookies, the chocolate chip kind.  Have one.....  Well OK have 2.

Ulrich I would be very pleased to have Petra suggest a good diet for gout that might work.  Tell to remember I also have to follow a Diabetics diet, a low fat diet, and a high fiber diet..........  Grumpy

Chris, uh, remind me to be nice to all those EMT type peoples......  OMG!  I just happened to think of how many of my former students are now EMTs..........  Sure wish I had been nicer to them........Shock

Garry, glad to hear your BIL has come through his surgery well and that it was done when it was!

Jeremy, good to see you sir!  As has been said, you would do well to take care of the small water problem while they re still small.  Little water problems often become big water problems very quickly....

About 4 hours ago I went down to the layout room and turned on the heat in anticipation of spending a bit of time down there.  Didn't happen.  So I guess i will go back down there and turn it off before I call it a night.

Hope you all have a good night.  Prayers for all in need!

Evening, Chloe - kinda tired tonight, so how about a bowl of chili with some cheese grated on it, and a RBF, please 'n' thank you!

Long day today - total of 9 hours (no lunch - was w**king on a commitment for client who was screaming/yelling in the waiting area, and hitting the parent (who brought them in to see the doctor today) when I got called to the doctors' office area... ). Stepped back (suggested the parent do the same) and had the police called in to take that one into protective custody while I was trying to find a place to send them (& for everyone else's general safety in the meantime). Ah, Mondays at w**k...Banged Head

Feels good to come into the Diner and relax... No, thanks, Chloe - I'll pass on a beer. Save it for the others who might want one tonight. Wink

Ulrich, good to hear that THAT struggle for 'territory' is settled (hope you didn't have to trade away too much to get the settlement...). I hear you on the rant; that's a little like some school classes over here - they have to design the curriculum so the slower-thinking ones (no offense intended) understand it, and that means the sharper ones sometimes are bored out of their skulls as a result. Follow their silly hoop-jumps and get their requirements out of the way, so you can have them tell you that you should be doing the kind of w**k that you've been doing all along. Confused...and get yourself and Petra moved into your new digs! Yeah!!

Chuck, those were SOME winds that you had! Shock Not too bad for sending the family members out the door heading downwind, but probably kinda hard on those going 'upstream'! Good to hear you got some compliments on your layout - always good to educate folks on the fun and beauty of the hobby. Thumbs Up Best wishes on your next phase for the layout! Thanks for the offer to clean your house, but it's hard enough to motivate myself once every few months or so for my own place! Smile,Wink, & Grin Hey, if you get a chance to take some pics of your layout, we'd love to see what you've been doing (and what your plans for the additional w**k on the layout will involve).Big Smile

Hey, Jeff, you're not behind Missouri - our area still hasn't got the H1N1 shots yet, and there are some towns around where they haven't even got the regular flu shots yet. I think the whole flu shot thing smacks of mis-management (corporate AND governmental), but what do I know? My 2 cents... Good that you got yours, though. Did you get your training to be a voting commissioner done? Ah, wouldn't make good economic sense, as I see from your comment.

Todd, I had to read one of Ulrich's posts to figure out SWMBO (though now that I think of it, I think Calif.Tom used that (of Her Furry Highness Spooky)! You wouldn't know about the use of that abbreviation of course, would you, being married? Whistling

Jeremy - how long has it been - a while, as best as I can remember. Sign - Welcome back, anyway! On the water thing, maybe you need the delightful task I had once back in my married days. Had to replace, let's see, was it the wax seal at the bottom of the bowl, I think? Maybe so. Dipped all the water out of the upper tank that I could, put all the rags, mops and other absorbent things we could find on the floor around and removed the upper tank, then IIRC, I had to slightly rock the commode itself to get it loose to take off. Then to clear all the old 'wax' away, put the new seal around the opening in the floor, then VERY carefully align the commode onto the seal and then put the upper tank on top. Oh yeah, I DID mention that before you start all this, you want to turn off the cutoff valve to the toilet, right? I forgot? My Oops! Laugh Ah, the joys of home ownership... (Got a friend who's a plumber that you can pump for information or have him stand by and tell you what you're not doing right? Smile,Wink, & Grin)

Chris - have you been taking lessons from Garry again?Evil

Nah, Chris, that's just in upstate Illinois or the bootheel of Missouri...Whistling

PC - re: "Mean, nasty, drunk" rule...Laugh ROTFL!!!

Calif.Tom, thanks for the info on the whaleback tenders. Wonder why they were so quick to swap tenders? Hey, stay warm with that 'fall' weather up there - snuggle up to Spooky and Uff-Dah!

Garry, good to hear your  BIL's surgery went well (and that it wasn't delayed, with that artery as it was!). Chloe will have to fine you for using the 'w' word in the Diner, though. Smile,Wink, & Grin (Just kiddin')

CN Charlie, since you mentioned Corey, I was wondering myself what he's been up to lately (or for a while, really). Good to hear from you - and that your 'warm' weather is continuing. Wink

Think I'll head for home about now, get my shower tonight and be ready for w**k in the morning. Ah, w**k... at least it helps pay for the MRR'ing stuff!

Blessings and prayers,

Just got back from w**K. Real slow night.

Jeremy- Haven't had any water probs myself, but to me, any leak, big or small, is a leak and water pipes aren't suppose to leak. They'll only get worse, never better.

Philip- LaughI've heard of the same rule here. Must be universal!

Think I'll turn in early. Prayers for those in need.Angel

Good Evening Diners!

A toasted cinammon bun and some of Ray's dark roast coffee please Chloe.

Well Keith I must admit I did chuckle a little with your definition of cold. We get 40 degrees here in the winter too except that it is -40 and it's the same C or F. Needless to  say 4' of water won't protect fish as our lakes around here can easily get 6' of ice.  Our pond is only about 2' deep as any more and we have to comply with backyard pool regs. Our goldfish live in a laundry tub in the basement from Nov.1 to April 30 and sometimes longer but it is better than the alternatives, at least for them.

Jerry, glad you stopped in as I was wondering what had happened since you rarely miss a day let alone 3 or 4. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Say has anyone heard from Corey in Mankato recently? Seems like he was in here a lot and then nothing since early summer. I wonder how his layout is coming especially that terrific bridge he was building.

Well I didn't get to the LHS on Saturday as we had to go to the mall and I mean we as in she. Anyway it turned out to be a good trip as we managed to  pick up a video camera for half price. It is a Panasonic and the search on the net I did revealed that it is a fairly good one. We have a Sony now but it has a serious audio design problem as they didn't put in any wind noise suppression circuitry so even a breeze sounds like a hurricane with the wind noise on playback. We had an old Sony 8 mm that did have it as we took some video in a small boat going 15-20 mph and it turned out great. I checked and the Panasonic does have it. I could go on a rant on this topic  but no longer feel the need.

I was in the 'shop' earlier this evening and installed a TCS decoder into a Mehano Hudson. It was a  reatively easy to fit in a small decoder above the motor which wasn't the case for their Sante Fe. Although the chassis on both and indeed the boiler too are similar the motor on the Hudson is just a little smaller so the decoder could fit above it. I haven't tested it yet but that will have to wait until tomorrow. I have a MRC Sounder that I will put into the tender. It didn't cost much as the loco isn't good enough to warrant a Tsunami. Heck a Tsunami is worth far more than the Hudson.

Another balmy day here in Winterpeg with sunny skies and nearly 50F!! Might hit that again tomorrow. There is a good chance we will make it through November with no snow.

May go back to the layout and run my little PK2 0-6-0 a little more. It sure is one smooth runner as well as being wonderfully detailed.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

Thanks for the concern and prayers regarding my brother in law in Nashville. He is now resting in ICU. The artery in his neck was worse than had been suspected, and surgery was a long one. Evidently, the artery was ready to break, and so it is good he did not wait any longer for the operation. Meanwhile, his heart is holding together from the valve replacement surgery he had last month. He may need more surgeries soon.

On the model railroad, I worked on building another downtown building today. Maybe tomorrow I can get back to solving problems with my new DCC.

Cal Tom .. I like the locos.

Keith, the brick buildings look great.

That's basically what means. I didn't take the test myself. It pays $200 and SS would just 'Thank you' and leave me with nothing but change.

It's called "The Naked Rule"!  Goes like this...... If you call for an ambilance after midnight, and you have any of the conditions listed above, and give them any problems, you arrive at the hospital naked.

As I used to tell my EMT-Basic students, I've NEVER cut the clothes off of anybody I'd WANT to see naked... It was always someone/some-thing...which would most certainally have been better "clothed" had their condition allowed. "We" had the same rule, to a degree...a precautionary IV was started, but instead of a small 18 or even 20 gauge needle, the large-bore 14 gauge would be used. Think "roofing nail."Shock. It was medically defensible: they could be volume-deficient from vast quantities of ETOH (alcohol) consumption, and fluid replacement may be necessary...Whistling Never had it questioned. I'd also heard rumors of medics placing Foley catheters in "less than pleasant" patients. ShockEvilMischiefApprove

When we still used duct tape to secure patients to the backboard, the "standard" procedure was to run one piece across the forehead, and one over the chin on the C-collar (neck brace). The forehead strip was folded over, as a courtesey, so the tape was not directly on the patient's skin, or hair, etc. With known DUI patients, "we" occassionally "forgot" the courtesey, and the head strip would go right across the eyebrows... Whistling OOPS, my bad, sorry about what's left of your eyebrows...

Nothing like a little "street justice" from the street medics...

Evening all from ReallyChillyCal:

Clear skies so far, but COLD.  We're about another six degrees colder than yesterday.  I've started hunting for my sweater collection.  I know it's around here somewhere, LOL!  Just can't remember which closet shelf I stashed them in.

Had a good day at school, today.  For a Monday, the guys were really attentive.  I think they know that we've only got about 13 or 14 rehearsals left until our Winter Concert.   One of my students in period 5 was itchy/scratchy, acting like a major goofball until I told him "Fish have a 3-second memory.  You need to concentrate to work up to Salmon."   He looked like I'd just cut his throat, until I grinned.  Then he was okay.  Reason I grinned is because the rest of the class looked as if they were ready to POUND him.  But after that, it was a good rehearsal.  These guys are actually terrific.  When they know that Time Is Of the Essence, they REALLY come through.  And they're sounding really GOOD, this year!

Needless to say, I LOVE my job! Tongue  And the guys that help make my job such a joy.

Packers/Ulrich/Jim:  Okay, a little lecture on "Whaleback" tenders, at least what I've learned.  If there are any other SP fans out there, chime in and correct me if I got some of the facts screwed up. Shock  Anyway, SP and Baldwin got together for the first of the Cab-forward Mallets way back when, and Baldwin designed these neat/weird tenders for the first of the MM 2-8-8-2 and the MC 4-6-6-2 compound Mallets.   And evidently some of the early 20th Century 2-8-0's recieved them too.   As SP retired some of the early cab-forward classes, the 'whalebacks' were saved and turned up on other classes of locomotives as they went in for shopping.   SP was famous for changing out tenders on a lot of their locomotive classes, so what tender arrived on their property from builders (Baldwin/Alco) was not necessarily the tender that the loco would have during its lifetime.

Most of the "Decks" arrived with either four or six-wheel trucked Vandy tenders, but as the locos were shopped, some of them got older 'Whalebacks" from scrapped locomotives.  That F-5 I just got is a model of one of the several that got a Whaleback during shopping.   It probably arrived from Baldwin new with a 6-wheel Vandy (God only knows where the Vandy ended up, LOL!).   I've heard that about the only SP locos that never got their tenders switched were the big AC Cab-forwards, the Lima-built GS 'Daylight' 4-8-4's and the Lima-built AC-9 2-8-8-4's.  Other than that, I understand it was catch as catch can.

Here's a couple of other SP locos on my roster with Whalebacks:  The first is one of the "Harriman" 2-8-0's, which I understand arrived from Baldwin with that particular tender and kept it through its service.   This is a nifty little Sunset model I acquired about 8 years ago.

The next one of 10 former Boston and Maine 2-8-4's that SP acquired during WWII for use on their Golden State route between El Paso TX and Tucumcari, NM.  They were converted to oil and given Whalebacks from scrapped MM 2-8-8-2 cab forwards.  Pardon the paint-job, this baby OBVIOUSLY needs some touch up. Blush  But hopefully the photo will give you an idea of these unique tenders.

The only other Whalebacks I'm familiar with are several that were built for the Rock Island, but the RI mounted a weird kind of bunker at the top toward the cab of the locomotive that gave them a kind of "Reverse Vandy" look.  Wish I had a photo--those babies were really UNIQUE!

Ulrich:  Thanks for the photo of the 'reverse' Whaleback on that handsome German 2-10-0.  I've seen film of those locos in action, and how a 10-coupled locomotive could sustain passenger speeds without tearing up the track (or the locomotive) just makes me admire German engineering all the more (BTW, I'm the proud owner of an Audi, so I know how good you people are at this sort of thing, LOL!).

Anyhow, that's what I've learned about the rather unique Whaleback tender on the SP.  I think they're nifty. Tongue  I sure like the ones I have--gives the locos a really unique look.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Big Smile

Learned something new the other night when the wife and I were out to dinner.  We went out with some friends ya know, and one of them is an EMT part time.  Found out they have a "rule" regarding mean, nasty, rude, drunk, or just downright uncooperative folks in the wee hours of the morning.  It's called "The Naked Rule"!  Goes like this...... If you call for an ambilance after midnight, and you have any of the conditions listed above, and give them any problems, you arrive at the hospital naked.  They cut your clothes off, "in order to assess your physical condition".  Of course, you get a blanket (they're not cruel after all).  He said that it's amazing how fast a mean, nasty drunk becomes very cooperative when they're naked and headed to a public place.

Good evenin', time for a double cheeseburger basket and a Coke please 'n thank-ya.

KEITH: The buildings are looking GOOD! Don't know what you did, or if it was just the paint drying down, but the color separations are nowhere near as..."extreme"...as they were. Looks pretty doggone good to this rank amatuer. Thumbs Up Again, keep in mind, my opinion rates at about a half-cent, versus the time honored "well...here's MY two cents..." Our graphic designer has family with a Koi farm, located near Swisher. I've tried to line up an interview/photo shoot there a few times...hasn't w**ked out yet. Perchance, they're especailly coy about their koi...Whistling

TODD: So....that was you I heard banging and carrying on out there yesterday. Sorry Pal. I thought maybe Vinnie was "adjusting somebody's attitude."Eight Ball

ULRICH: Sounds like you've got the attic space issue figured out Thumbs Up. I'll add to whoever said you might wanna look at layout on top, storage below...might get you a little more room that way. I hear you on the "decades" to get a layout built. We've been in this house for over four years, and I have exactly three pieces of lumber (one bracket with an additional piece to run wires through and hold wiring diagrams) installed. It's not much fun trying to scrap up bucks for the necessities... Hopefully they'll find you something to get the cardiac output back up. Sounds like the bureacracy (sp) has ensnared you again...

Took a ride with Mr. Publisher today up to Cedar Falls, to the UNI (University of Northern Iowa) - Dome, home of the UNI Panthers, and the Iowa High School Football Championships. Our team, Solon, met the #2 team in the state in Class 2-A, and racked up an unopposed and un-threatened 35-0 score by halftime. With the lead, the second half went by fast with a "continuous clock" in effect. Solon has now won 40 games in a row. They are defending back-to-back championships. If they win the final, they could be the first team in the state to win three in a row. The final round is Saturday afternoon. I might shoot it with Mr. Publisher, or he might take THAT with him. Looks like zero chance of a raise... oh well, at least I like my job, THAT'S something.

We were supposed to have our monthly training session for the Fire Dept. tonight...just got the info page saying "cancelled." I wonder if the cold wind and rain has something to do with it. It could be our training officers "forgot" to come up with something for tonight.

JEFF: Election Commissioner 'eh? Does that mean you'll sign 'em in and remind them to "vote early, and vote often?" Mischief

Looks like a good night to hibernate.

 hi guys

havent been in here for awhile, well the layout is unpacked and running after 3 years ( still runs great, as do the engines )

been having a bit of unluck with some plumming though lately, last week it was the toilet that leaked a bit of water into the basement ( Maybe half a cup ) then today I see some water in the basement again this time a little to the left of the toilet but it seems to be the caulking to blame on this one. Again a bit of water.

The funny thing is most people inlcuding my parents say "thats not a bad leak" ( they have had a hot water tank blow on them ) and some people I know have had seweres back up in there basement . But to me It seems bigTongue seeing as its my first house

Can anybody else share the Water problems they have had? maybe make me feel like im not the only one?

Thanks again guys for letting me vent, what a frustrating day

Hey Todd ... Thanks!  I'm planning on giving it my best.  I've learned so much as it is.  A bit of information over-load.  But concerning glues,  I must admit.. who ever recommended the Kristal Klear glue.. Thanks!  I used it on this building,  and it was perfect .. a bit like fast drying white glue.  Forgiveable, and allows you to do the 'whip' 'spit' 'yup'  'perrrfect' 'touch'

Boy, what a nap. I guess I fell asleep in here. What's that? Oh excuse me, napkin please so I can wipe the slobbers off my chin. I have a tendency to get up and leave without closing the page up.

Keith- Personally, I think the buildings look great and if it were me, I'd be tickled pink they came out that way after much practice. Let alone a test as you say. At this rate I can tell you are going to have a fantastic layout!

Jerry- Sorry to hear you've been laid up this weekend. Here's to you feeling betterAngel.

Two Truck- Yes, that bench work looks like cabinet workThumbs Up.

Ulrich- You know Jim may have something there. Here in the States people are always scrambling for the next great healthy recipes book. You'd never know it by the success of McDonalds on every corner, but they buy the books. Might wanna check into that when you get settled. Also the cabinet/ shelves idea may be a plus for you both also. Ah, I see the issue has been resolved. We shall keep our mouths closed so not to jinx it. I had to chuckle at your abbreviations comment. I am in the same boat as you. In fact I'm still trying to piece the "SWMBO's" Jim used.

Jim- I saw some of you guys waving, but I thought you were ordering just "one more thing"Confused

Aha! Just got a phone call from Northern, or Northwest Publishing, something like that. You know the firm that handles my magazine subscriptions? I asked which ones she's talking about and she couldn't tell me. Anyway, I told her I take Model Railroader and she said that she had some discounts available for me because the internet is cutting into sales, I'm a good customer, blah, blah, blah. 4 year subscription and a year subscription free to Model Railroad Craftsman. She had trouble pronouncing these magazines actually calling MR Model Railroad-ing Magazine. I said Kalmbach Publishing says they don't deal with Publishing houses because they frequently say this in mailings and e-mails also on their website.... Pause...... She said she doesn't know about that just they are on her list. I said, "Doesn't matter toots, I'm not interested." She said thank you and hung up.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm ignoring Keith's remark about lower 40's being a cold, cold winter.

Went into town today and made my bank deposit and got both of the flu shots (seasonal and H1N1) while I was at it. I don't know why Louisiana always has to be behind on everything. This is the first week the shots have been available here. Got most of the trim on the DPM building painted this morning. A little close-in painting is needed but I should be to the point of assembling it soon.

Hi All; 08:47 here wind is having fun max blast at 90 mph standing blow is between 30 and 40 mph Weeeeeee!! now is not the time to fly a kite. The 14th was Kathy's memorial, and this house was full of people and a lot stayed overnite, so I just finished cleaning up the house. Alot of the family had not seen the beginning of the layout, because they had never been here, and I got a lot of OOW and AHHHHss!!! Everything went well and now I can spend more time w**king on the MRR.   All of the business went to the layer and bookie so I have nothing to do with the business anymore GOODIE.......just sit back and clip coupons and w**k on the MRR..... Now CLOE please may I have cup of dark rich coffee with choclate and some of your very good pecan pie with wipped cream lots of cream!!!!!no more having to watch my diet for today..Tomorrow.....I shure enjoy seeing all those pictures that are here. MyMy 2 cents on the color or the way that you did the moter looks great, now just a little bit of weathering depending on age and I think it will look great,my idea is to weather everything because all of my buildings are run down and used hard and not taken good care of in the woods and towns. I think what you have done is GREAT.   JIM now I too have to clean house again unless you want to come down here and do it for me.LOL .I am awaiting delivery of a whole bunch of toys to be delivered by ups that I ordered from all over woodlandscienics, M.B.Klein,cloverhouse,crowncustom( 4-6-6-4) u/p oh-boy...And I'm going to use all of this on a 4/8 MRR.with 18in curves and #6 custom built switches. I live so far from town and there is nothing here within 25 miles ,the closest RRshop is 100mi. away and that takes close to 2 1/2 hrs to get there and the same to get back and I'm tired of driving all that way(Dr.'s) and this little comp is so much eseyer (I miss my sectery she did all my bad spelling) 7yrs of college and I still can't spell or type. Just two fingers, To all in need of help I pray for you and hope you get better..........................Fair Winds and Following Seas.................Chuck

 Hi again,

I am just home from the job integration seminar for the elderly - well, to say the best about it would be calling it a complete waste of time. It is designed for people that never were in a position requiring more skills than just reading and writing at basic level. I have two university degrees and I feel somewhat misplaced ... Sad Unfortunately, it will continue for two more weeks and thus severely interferes  with our moving schedule. Today we started to fill out forms which will supposedly screen our aptitude. Silly questions and silly answers.

Rant, rant, rant! GrumpyDeadBlack EyeAngry rant, rant, rant!

I was able to settle the open issue about the train corner - victory! All quiet on the western front!

Keith - that blue is good looking, just add a light weathering and you are very close to the real thing! Nice job on the depot! Thumbs Up

Ray - to fight the effects of the gout, a lot can be done by eating the "right" things - give Petra a little time to come up with something helpful for you.

Two Truck - I am glad that I am now not the only one any more who did not know what a RBF is. Some of those abbreviations used in here are really hard to guess, as I am not a kid using SMS messages any longer.

Tom - I beg to see some more pics of your hump whalebacked Deck.

Zoe, mind if I have a beer now? Don´t want to go the Beer Barn further down the track... No, you don´t have to tell Vinnie...

Jim, yes... I have two koi ponds.  And every now and then, if the winter is cold.. very cold.. like in the low 40's for a period of time... in the spring I can breed them.  But only if it gets cold enough.  They come from mountain / snow fed area's and like the cold water~  When a pond freezes, it only freezes from the top down.  (Thats why some ppl walk on ice...lol)  But in the middle of a pond  ..lets say 4 foot deep pond..  there is a pocket of warmer water..  and thats why fish don't freeze during the winter.  If you look closely at the pic... you will see two green koi... somewhat rare.  You actually have to follow a recipe' to get green.. its less than a 2 percent chance.  And their name.. is.. 'Koshi No Hisoku' .. but in my warp mind.. everytime.. I see that name.. I think of some man coming home from work..  puts down his keys.. goes to the fridge.. opens it up and says..

Koshi, No Hisoku ?

Blazzin
I could be wrong, but to match this photo... all I would have to do.. is change the color of the roof.. and add / brush more deeper color onto the bricks.. to 'bring out' or accent the basic color.  Just one man's opinion.

Hey, Keith - personally, I think it looks fine with the roof that color (looks older than the terra cotta on the box - more like it's been there a while). But as Todd said, it's your depot, so do what you like on it. I'm sure whichever way you go, you'll do great on it. Thumbs Up Good inspiration for me, for sure!

Jerry, get yourself rested and healed up, then you may feel more like a little MRR'ing.

Good Morning Zoe, I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ, couple of scrambled eggs, some wheat toast and butter and blackbery jam, please, with a Rio Grande mug of coffee. Thanks!

Kinda rainy today - about 54 F (12 C) this morning, and not going to warm up much (maybe 65 F/18 C for the high temp). I'd call it a steady, light rain today. Good day for MRR'ing w**k (if I didn't have to come in to the office, that is...). Wink

NS Joe, thanks for the description of that photo. When you get a more adjustable camera, if you pan at the right speed (about even with the train), the train will retain some sharpness, but the background will blur (which can look neat). Best wishes on progress next week when you get going on your benchw**k.

Ulrich, good to hear you have your gorillas crew to help move your stuff. Yep, I've seen some older German homes in this area, and they have heavy wardrobes, etc. that the clothes and all fit into, and those would be a bear to move! On the attic, you could point out to Petra that under your layout, there will likely be abundant storage space (and get more layout space on top...). I've even seen layouts designed where they pretty much used cabinets under the layout to raise it to whatever height you prefer. That might take care of both SWMBO's and your needs for the attic. Whistling Hey, you know, if Petra writes that special diet recipe book, maybe she could sell enough and add some additonal My 2 cents to the budget?! I have one friend who wrote a couple of childrens' books (well, the second one was for teens), and the first one is doing pretty well (not sure how much she gets out of the sale of each book, though).

Garry, sending up AngelAngel for Nick's surgery (and recovery). Keep us posted on his progress, please.

Randy (TwoTruckShay), your benchw**k looks impressive (nice-looking and sturdy)! Thumbs Up You're making good progress, I'd say, and the way you've done this, the rest of the layout will be great! Yeah!!

Barry, are you feeling better today? Didn't notice any sniffling sounds when I came into the Diner. Mine are about all gone, too, and my neck feels better than yesterday, so I'm happy with that.

Keith, do you have a koi pond at your place? That's one advantage for middle or southern Calif. -  not likely to freeze over the ponds like in other parts of the country (or up our Canadian brethrens' way). I like what you've done with the depot (looks like the freight building was added, just like it should!). The 'glass depot' will look nice when you get it all done, I'd say. (Hmm, I may want to just go ahead and see about starting on my Santa Fe depot...)

Robby, wish your wife our best on starting the new job! Big Smile And hope you are able to get back to the layout w**k soon...Yeah!!

Jeff as a voting commissioner? - Now there's something to think about! Smile,Wink, & Grin Could give you a chance to talk trains to some of the people coming in to vote, maybe?

Todd - we were wondering why you didn't come in when we motioned to you yesterday. Glad you got back in, and that you can get a little MRR'ing today perhaps. Thumbs Up Yeah, rainy weather is good for the MRR'ing (so long as we're not at the bottom of the valley, or too close to the creek/river!).

Think I'll grab a seat by the window booth and watch the morning switcher while I finish breakfast.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Todd, believe it or not.. it really looks newer than the pics.  The sun is coming up early today.  Perhaps I'll try a 'close-up'  Actually, I'm fairly happy with the colors.  I guess the bricks would represent more of the 'Clinker' type of bricks.  An extra 'firering' of the bricks to give them different hues of the bricks... ranging brom burnt orange to gun metal / brownish to purple haze.  If you know that type of brick.  Ok.. here's the best pic I have.  I really tried to get the mortar correct and even.100_0475.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Click on the photo to see it closer.  As far as age,  I did the roof this color for a 'test'  one of the buildings is a 'flat roof' and so the color.. or colors I used were to 'accent' the roof using 3 different colors.  Its a matter of painting the roof a 'newer' looking color.. perhaps the 'tera cotta' orange.  But in truth, I really didn't want the building to look exactly like the 'Box'.100_0256-1.jpg picture by Blazzin55'

I could be wrong, but to match this photo... all I would have to do.. is change the color of the roof.. and add / brush more deeper color onto the bricks.. to 'bring out' or accent the basic color.  Just one man's opinion.

Blazzin- In regards to the "Overkill builts" (wouldn't be buildings if you're done building them) Don't be hasty to change anything just yet. Things will look different in real life but from here, they don't look that bad at all. If, of course you're going for an older look. Everything looks different on the bench or on bare wood. Wait til you get some scenery down and set the building in it's setting to see what it really will look like. The surroundings play a big part on the overall appearance. Just my My 2 cents

"Hi Chloe..~  coffee when you get a chance please.. you're a bit busy."

Well heres what I've been up to~  My 'On-going.. continuing saga'  Building my first buildings.. with 'Over-Kill' on the multi-colors.  So far this is what I have.100_0470.jpg picture by Blazzin55

There are still alot of little tiny parts.. a days work.. or at least a 'half a day'.  So far, its been fun, and very rewarding.  If I had to build another one.. just like this.. it would take half the time.100_0461.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Here's a pic of my 'Glass Canopy platform/station.  Ulrich.. I hope I got the color right... but this is a prettier blue ..just a tad.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a couple of poached eggs this morning and an order of sourdough toast to go along with my cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.  I'll go keep Barry company at the Rivet Counter.  He seems to be getting over the "Final Comeangettcha" as my grandmother used to call it.

Cloudy and 52°F outside today in the Finger Lakes.  Would be a good day to trim the hedge before snow sets in.  I also have to finish up the Capitol Spending Priority list for camp today, but that will most probably involve some midnight oil......

Ulrich sounds like progress is finally being made.  I know you both will be much relieved when the move has been made and you have had a chance to get settled in.  Just get yourself healthier so you can enjoy your "corner" of the attic!

Jim, a gout attack can last anywhere froma couple days to several weeks.  This one has taken about 2 1/2 weeks to settle down.  The toe is much better this morning.  Now to see if I can prevent any more attacks.

Time to get moving I guess.  Later!
