Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a nice bowl of hot oatmeal with some brown sugar and my cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug if you please.  I was going to sit at the Rivet Counter, but I see Barry is still coughing and hacking....  (Haaaaaaaaaakkkk!!!  Cough,cough.. Sniff, Haaaaaaarrrrrrraaaaaaaackkkkkkk).  Yeh, I think I'll sit in the back booth.  Rather listen to Duke snore than catch what Barry has.

Today I will be packing and checking over everything I need to bring to the Batavia Train Show tomorrow.  I have to be there close to 8AM and it is an hour and 20 minute drive from here.  All the stuff will have to be packed in the truck tonight.  Only reason I am taking the truck is so I can bring a large hand cart to move everything in one load.  Easier on the big toe......  If any of you are planning on going to the show, look me up, I will be a the NMRA Booth assembling more flat cars.

Jeffrey glad you got some good news on the foot.  Take care of it!

I went out to dinner with my sister in Canandaigua last night.  I was a good boy and had the fish fry rather than the Prime Rib I usually get there.....  Trying to be good and stay away from foods that have a high purine content to see if that helps the gout. Grumpy  Today will be a vegetarian day...GrumpyGrumpy

Best get a move on or I won't get the few things i have on the "must do" list done.  Later!

[edit]  OH! Ulrich!  That is great news on the apartment!  Now get that old ticker working right so you will be able to climb up the stairs to run trains!  You continue to be in my prayers!

Good Morning Diners!

A cool, crisp, sunny morning here, temp is about -5C, high today of 4C  but at least it's sunny.

Ulrich, great news about your apartment. It must be a great relief to have that settled. We're thinking of you.

Todd, Good luck with the chili! Wish I was there as I do love a good bowl of chili but I like garlic toast with mine.

Jeff, glad to hear your foot is on the mend. Nice work on the tank cars but I think a load of whiskey is a better idea than geritol.

Well we're off to have lunch with friends today and then a little shopping. May stop at the LHS but who knows as I don't really need much, just some offset couplers as the ones on a PK2 box car are too low.

Goooood Morning. Slept well last night once I got to bed, could use longer but I don't want to throw my sleep cycle off. Did I tell you why I was up so late? Oh, your right Zoe. People are eating. ( How do these girls know what happens in here even when the aren't on shift. Wierd.)

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Southwest wind between 6 and 10 mph. Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 44. North northwest wind between 5 and 9 mph.

Big Chili day today. Everyone in town is participating. Except, of course, those who aren't. I've got a couple hours until I heat up my fabulous concoction and take it up to the Community Center by 1030 to be scrutinize by the Chief of Police. The only thing I forgot was to get some tortillas to cleanse his palate of the foul taste of the others. I was looking for a few specifics at the Wal-mart yesterday and with the aisles full of people brought in from every county and township for miles to front the shelves, I forgot tortillas. A staple in this house I tell you what.

Ulrich- I'm really pleased you said "Life is not all bad" You are correct. Though things may seem bleak at times with no way out, there are always those less fortunate. It will all work out in the end. Why it has to be the way it is to get there is anyones guess. I hope the space you have gets to become "Ulrichland" a place where you can be king and in charge of life as you would like it to be. Leave all the real life concerns at the door and just create your own world. I'm gonna haul cattle. And am seriously considering using cabooses..,-beeses.., -bice..,-boosies..., whatever, in the current era.

Well best get my shower so I won't smell when I collect my prize and get asked to not return because then no one would ever win against my chili and therefore no one would enter next year. (large inhale) Check out THAT long sentence.Big Smile

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning all. Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South wind 9 to 11 mph becoming east. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. East wind 6 to 8 mph becoming south.  Way behind posts, not sure if I’ll be able to catch up on everything.

Good morning. It's 49 and mostly cloudy. The high will be in the mid 70's and it will be partly cloudy.

The doc appointment went well yesterday. The foot shows no sign of swelling and the incision from the first surgery is nearly healed. The second incision is also healing well. The pressure wound on the bottom of the foot is almost completely healed. Being that the bone that was pressing against it is now gone there's nothing to keep ripping it open now. It's down to half a millimeter in size. Yesterday I downloaded and tried the Yard Office database software. It has it's good points but for the most part I was not favorably impressed. It's an incomplete freeware version and I don't feel like parting with $27 to get the rest of something I'm not impressed with. I'll stick with the RRTRAINS 2000 database. With it I got the complete program instead of a stripped down freeware version and it didn't cost me anything except my time to download it and set it up. I had intended to be online last night but the cable system out here had different ideas. It went down sometime during the late afternoon and stayed down until sometime between 11 pm and 2:30 am. I was up for a short time around 2:30 and checked out of curiosity.

I'm getting ready to head off to the university to catch up on some of my own class work and do some weekend seminar stuff. This on top of whatever this bug is that I fell over this week. Tom: Sounds like that was a fun play! Roseville should be a good show---if it is like any that I gone to up here one has to hit those things like--really early--otherwise nothing is around by noonTongue

Ulrich: Good to see that the paperwork is out of the way--and that the space has space for a layout! Gonna have a good time with that!Smile

Evening all--actually, almost good morning all:

Nice and crisp out here in SunnyCal, '50's down here in the valley, '20's and '30's in the mountains.  I finally got an excuse to dig out my London Fog windbreaker and long-sleeved shirts today.

Well, just got home from the Fall Play at Jesuit, and it was just WONDERFUL!   They did a very whacked-out version of "The Three Musketeers" and it was exciting, funny and beautifully acted.  And the dueling choreography was absolutely spectacular.  Riley Shanahan, one of my prize vocal students played Porthos.  This guy is a bass with a voice that starts in his big toe, and he's 6'4" (naturally, on the basketball team) and I've known for the past four years that he really knows how to use his body--especially when he gets a solo in our Show Choir--but I somehow never really thought of him as a dramatic actor.   Good Lord, he just stole the show!  Incredible fencing moves all over the stage, I thought I was watching an old Errol Flynn movie for a while.  Terrific show.  My lady friend Lois said it was one of the best high school productions she's ever seen (she teaches at St. Francis Girls High here in town).  We were both just knocked out!

Well, the Roseville Train show starts tomorrow, so I'm going to go over and haunt it during the morning, when there's lots of goodies that haven't been picked over yet (yah, sure!).  Maybe someone has some of those newly released Woodland Scenic HO mountain lions.  My plastic Prieser deer seem to have been proliferating in the woods lately to an inordinate degree, and my HO hunters can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn.  So let's see if nature will take its course, LOL!

And of course, maybe some unsuspecting brass collector, feeling the economic pinch will be getting rid of his articulateds at rock-bottom prices. Whistling

Ulrich:  Seems like things are looking up for you, finally.  Prayers for the best.  I think that attic space for a layout will DEFINITELY be a plus in your recovery.

Oh, BTW, can anyone recommend a good paint stripper for brass whose fumes don't knock you across the room?   I know that there used to be a water-soluble one on the market some years back, but I can't remember the name of it.  I've got to strip that old Akane Pacific of mine down to brass and repaint her.  Right now she's a pretty-running bunch of paint chips, but the stripper I used to use has fumes that sink right through a face-mask, and with my breathing problems, that ain't fun.   If anyone's got any ideas, I'd sure be grateful.

Well, got to hit the bed and be nice and fresh for the mob at the train show tomorrow.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Smile

 Good Morning / Good Evening,

Zoe, I am in a desperate need of one mug full of your eye-opening black coffee, please. No one in yet? I see - they are all gone for a  Zzz and leave you here to clean up the mess they have left...  How about Janie, Flo and Chloe? They will be getting here later. Mind if I sit by the window - no, you won´t notice me, I just sit there...4

Life is not all bad. Yesterday evening, the landlord brought the now signed contract, so that issue is finally off the list. Neighbors will help to put in the new flooring this weekend, as I am out of order, so to speak, so that will also be off the list.  The kitchen stuff will be delivered by Wednesday and put up the following weekend. In a little more than a weeks time we will be ready for the move. Good to know, that we have a place to stay and start to build up new dreams. I guess I have to skip my plans of a boat - never heard anything about it anymore...

The new flat has a little room in the attic that can be used for a layout...

You all have a good weekend!

Believe it or not I got ALL the things done today I was suppose to. Chili is made and in the refridge-a-deezer resting. Tomorrow morn about 9 I'll heat it up again and pack it to the community center for the contest. I'm hoping to win the trip to Austin, but I'm not holding my breathe because apparently that's not one of the prizes.

Anyway, as you can tell it's late and I'm really tired. Could have got to bed an hour ago or better but Missy went out for nighty night potties and apparently stopped by the fire pit to dine on the ashes that were flavored with the grease from the deep fat fryer I had dumped there a week ago. In case you're wondering, ashes don't sit well on a dogs tummy tum and if you sit there and say " you just went out so you're only trying to get another treat so be quiet"....... they will yak up a very black sooty pile about 1 3/4 pounds on the carpet by your feet. Twice. After several products that claim to be fantastic at getting all sorts of stains including blood and wine out, we tried the old stand by. Kirby shampoo pre treatment. No more stain. Good stuff. Expensive, but good. You might want to invest in a bottle PC. Probably works on wood floors too. By the way I brought in a comfy pillow and some blankets. I'll leave it right here for when the wife sees your, um, well, efforts?

Prayers for those in need.Angel

Evening all, an RBF for me.

Phillip, there are some pics from when I was 1 or 2 where my father put his harley in the living room. He didn't drive in into the house though, or do donuts.... The day I graduate from college and/or quit my current job, I'm going to do those in the parking lot of the respective institutions.

I tried to put LEDs into my P2K GP38-2, but it's a bit of a squeeze to put in 3 LEDs (the way it is from the factory, there are 4 bulbs. 1 for each headlight and numberboard. I tried to see if 2 LEDs could light all of that, but no go. 1 can control the front headlight and numberboards, but it take 2 for both the rear numberboards and headlights) the way I did it. I'm going to try something else tomorrow that will allow me to keep the DCC plug (after flipping it). If it fails, I'm just going to mill the weight and use an altas light board decoder.

Despite the troubles with them, I'll probably get a few more and put sound in one of them.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have a mug of hot chocolate please. Thank you!

Jeff, thanks for the information on the background items - I now realize about the addition of those buildings to the Busch backdrop...Dunce D'oh!  I think I'm gonna have to order that Detail Associates backdrop stuff - seeing that again reminded me of how good they look! Memory problems? What memory problems? Whistling

Garry - not sure on Vincent's reasons, but I like the look of a (hacked) low nose on the early Geeps. Just looks cool to me (even if they aren't in pink...Smile,Wink, & Grin)

Todd, sorry to hear you're having sleep problems, maybe you could join Duke for a few lessons? Zzz And don'tcha go jinxing me there about Belleville! Wink

Barry, I might have had that thing you had - this morning I had what felt like post-nasal drip (sore back of throat, wanting to cough it out), but tonight after eating and getting some liquids into me, it feels better. I'll still spray the Chloraseptic down the back of my throat tonight, just in case.

So, Fireman216 - are you the guy who put up all the lights choreographed to that 'Wizards' tune played on speakers out on the front lawn? Yeah!! You go for it, guy!

Ray, you gotta learn to slide down in your chair at those meetings, man...Whistling

Calif.Tom - that sounds like high school age (or how much older...?) guys (or would that just be any guys?) Confused Heck I don't think I saw any of that such until it was on TV later (after I was married and the whole thing was hypothetical anyway...).

Rob, does your resident nurse have any idea how long your nose will take to heal up? That kinda, well, sucks... Banged Head You need your sleep. Yeah!!

PC - so, did you get any points with the little lady for not tearing up any carpet with your escapade? Man, I bet you even woke up the neighbors, doing all that! Laugh

My 'Friday the 13th' wasn't too bad - had two referred clients not show up for their follow-ups (so I called their parole officers to let them know...), but my two therapy clients showed up for their appointments. Have found that my co-w**ker's privileges for the hospital haven't come through yet, so won't yet be going to the extra on-call hours just yet (maybe not until December?...). Afternoon was pretty slow for me, but my co-w**ker had to go out for a Senior Services-requested assessment (we just love those, since usually they aren't really for mental health problems...Banged Head). Hope he didn't take forever to get that one completed.

Hope with the paints that I'll be picking up tomorrow (got an email that my order is in), I can get a loco painted in the CAW color scheme by Sunday and post a photo or two. I already have the SP Zebra stripe decals and a set of the D&RGW stripes set, and will need to make decals for the logo image (or make a stencil). Also need to take all the freight cars, the loco and assorted small stuff off the layout so I can vaccuum the (HO scale) dust off of it. Wouldn't hurt to vaccuum the carpets in the apartment, but I don't want to do too much and ruin my reputation as a bachelor...Oops

Prayers for some sleep (a lot of need for that lately in the Diner), healing (of noses, toes, and such), and for a good MRR'ing weekend for you Diners.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Even though I"m only 75 miles away things sure change.  A Mt. Arlington station!  Imagine that!  I trust it is a shelter, not a full building.  Still, a step in the right direction.  Does NJT still run to Hackettstown?

The station only opened in January 2008. It features two high-level platforms, each holding 3 cars. TheWB platform has only a small shelter, while the EB platform has a larger structure, and somewhat of a building. It is enclosed, although not at the bottom of the stairs. Here is a shot of it from yesterday (just noticed the four different reflections of the flash, which I thought was off):

Also have a video from yesterday. At 0:34, you can see "Hacketts" in the LED destination sign, so yes, trains do continue to Hackettstown: Mount Arlington Station, November 12, 2009

And I remember you mentioning seeing a "different" type of locomotive down on the Coast Line, most likely a PL42AC. Here's a shot from 3 weeks ago. Is this it?:

I entered this shot in the Trains Magazine photo contest, "Bridging the Gap." My entries featured bridge plates, which can be seen in the black box in the lower right of this photo.

Just some raw mixed nuts & a nut cracker, please. Oh, and a tall glass of cool lemon water.

Falling behind here. Wife treated me to a horse show last night called Cavalia. (Think of Cirque Du Soleil meets The Dixie Stampede). We enjoyed both the 2 & 4 legged performers. I think I fell in lust with the French horse trainer. If I wasn't already married and was about 20 years younger...WhistlingLaugh

Wife is going to start helping me work on HER layout next week. She'll start painting the rocks the way she envisions them. I expect to finish the remaining ballast over the weekend, providing I get enough sleep. Bridge of nose is still not healed up yet and until it does, I cannot wear the cpap mask. Banged Head

Hope everyone is doing well.

Sawyer - the plexiglas buffer sounds good; just remember to always put it back up after you are w**king on that part of the layout. I think I recall someone else didn't do that. Word to the wise...(from the sorry, whoever that was...)Thumbs Up

lol, gotcha Jim.

Tom, yep, sounds like high school guys to me.

Mornin' Chloe! A short stack of buttermilk pancakes and some black coffee for me today. I'll be at the counter reading the paper.

Got caught up with work, but need to run to the orifice depot to pick up some office supplies. Other than that, I'll be working on the subroadbed project later today and this weekend. Looks like it's about time for a homabed order!

Happy Friday the 13th, and prosperity and good health to all!

As a general rule I do not care for fictional TV or movies at all.

Goooooooooood  Morning Coffeeshoppers!

Zoe I need a short stack of those incredibly delicious  Birrkett Mills Buttermilk Pancakes, and don't forget the real NYS Maple Syrup.  Oh yes I do want a cup of your finest dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.  Wow!  That was fast! I'll just top them off with the real NYS Maple Syrup.  Oh yes!  (taste, taste) Spit, spit!  Eeeeeau!  What is this this stuff....  Yuck!  Huh?  Todd with another joke, huh!  OK, bring me another short stack of buttermilk pancakes and REAL Maple Syrup (the stuff they make up where Barry lives is just as good.)  You can put it on Todd's account.  Lets see what is in this "stuff" anyway...  "Water, Sugar, Sorbital, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Salt, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Carmel Color, Natural and Artificial Maple Flavor, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, and Acesulfame Potassium....."  Hmmmm.  [Grabs Maple Syrup bottle, reads ingredients] "Contains Pure Maple Syrup".  Wonder why this tastes so much better?

I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter for a bit and enjoy the real thing!

Thanks to all for your kind comments on the Certificate.

Got an email this morning from a secretary at Hobart and William Smith Colleges here in Geneva (and a member of the MLK Committee) letting me know that one of my cutest and charming little 2nd grade students from more than a few years ago has just been named "Miss Sophomore 2009 - 2010" at Virginia State University!  She was a 2008 Martin Luther King Scholarship winner as well.

Sun is Shining outside here in the Finger lakes on this Friday the 13th. Currently 48°F with a high in the mid 50s later this afternoon.  I may get started with trimming the hedge as well as compiling data for the Properties Committee.  Hopefully my toe will not get any worse than it is this morning.  Just a little bit tender, probably from standing around on the sidewalk for 2 hours last night....

Best get moving!  Later!

Morning all...coffee and a breakfast sammy with bacon please. A nice clear and sunny day here...probably in the 50's...gotta take that for good ole upstate N.Y. Got lots of work done today in the layout room...mainly several dozen super trees and poured some rock castings. Have to make good on the day off. After that it's hanging up the xmas lights..yep...I said XMAS!!. Never again will I put them up in the freezing cold!!...I am the Clark Griswold of my neighborhood...big competition to see who can make the best and tastefull displays....let's just say I have to add bracing to the electric meter to keep it from spinning off the wall!!...When I get ambitious i will download some layout pics for ya...

A true friend will not bail you out of jail...he will be sitting next to you saying "that was friggin awesome dude!" Tim...Modeling the NYC...is there any other?
