Evenin', Chloe - Not enough time to really post; I've been skimming mostly. With agreeing on some of the rants on phones, stop signs, etc., this quote I use on some emails comes to mind:

P.S. I think I hear the switcher coupling up, so better hang onto any loose plates, glasses, or dishes! feels like we're moving! Looks like the new place is here. We'll let Crandall lock the old Diner up
Der- Aint that what I forwarded to you from Steve?

Discovered today that the entrance to my brewery's corn syrup building is too short. The railings at the top of the tank cars strike the door frame. Oops! Glad I discovered this before I actually laid track. The clearance is so slight that I suspect a lower weight rail (its code 83 right now) will actually allow the cars to ease inside. The downside is I planned on all code 83 for easy of deployment, and I have enough turnouts already in the supply pile. But if I handlay a spur in code 40 it sure is going to look weird. I suspect if I make some half-height ties, I could retain my rail size throughout the layout.
I've already made arrangements for different roadbed heights for different types of track and rail size would be neat, but I'm not sure I want to tackle as many handlaid turnouts so quickly.
Robby P. I always "rant" to my wife about people not stopping at the STOP sign right below the house. The streets speed limit is 10mph. The street has a slight hill, and I've seen cars do at least 50+mph...............and thats through the stop sign. Didn't even touch the breaks. I've yelled at a few cars for not stopping or slowing down. They just give me a weird look. The chief of police lives right across the street from me, but he probably won't do anything. This is a small city with just a few officers. They won't have time to sit and wait for cars not to stop. Plus I was taught in police school not to give many tickets out. The police dept. don't want the officers in traffic court all day. I could talk about this for hours. Cell phones, speeding, stop signs, etc.

Same here--the stupidity of some drivers leaves me just going----GRRR!! I had one guy recently went around me while I just stopped at a 4 way stop----and almost slammed into the car coming towards us! No slowing down--in fact --speeded up for Pete sake-- guy wove through the traffic as everyone scattered---including some poor lady with a walker
No patience---No patience at all---
I's be getting some nap time ---so have a good one people--LTR

Joe and Vincent, thanks for the happy b-day. Vincent, the whole weekend was what I would have wanted in sports; Clemson won, Green bay and San Diego won, and Jimmie Johnson got his 4th straight.
Took some of my birthday gift certificates and went to the LHS, picked up the supplies for several projects.

(Shaking head after reading Jeff's post) I don't blame you one bit. What these people don't realize is they aren't just risking their lives. If that was the case, then more power to them and have at it. But they're not. They are puting others lives on the line as well. I know they think it's stupid and they can handle it and there is no problem. That's probably what the person who stopped on the tracks thought too.

LSWrrThe movie theaters up here all have the cell phone jammer, some people just don’t know when to not answer the phone. I think all new cars should have a jammer installed or a hands free system like mine, when I turn the key the Bluetooth hands free automatically kicks in forcing me to use the hands free.
Now THAT is a step in the right direction! I especially like the movie theaters. I paid my money to watch the movie, not listen to someone chat on the phone.
Keith, Rob- You just wait. Somebody will step in and tell you how it's done. There's oh let's see, Robby, Jeff, Ray, Lee...., I'm not even gonna continue because I know I'll miss someone and don't wanna offend them. Uncharted territorries ( look at that word. Just doesn't look right), in here? HA!
Ulrich- Good luck. See you when you get back.
Cederstrand Extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please. Busy group here. Can hardly keep up. Thanks for the Kudzu suggestions. Think we already have some of those materials laying around the train room. First the wife needs to paint some of those rocks, then we'll try making some Kudzu. Another question: Is there a quick/easy/cheap way to turn that shiny K&S corrugated alum into old rusty looking roofing? Rob

Ah ah... ah..~ I dunno. I can only tell what I am doing. I have a tin roof and building. I have painted it with Polly Scale paints. I first sprayed the whole thing with the color called Stainless steel. I wanted to start with a nice shine and go from there. I have noticed.. some rusted.. or grim on buildings.. that come down from frames .. lets say like windows... or other structures. After that dried I used the grimmy black paint.. and got this. I'll try to follow up on this.. I'm now planning on weathering with a light brown.. feathering it up.. the opposite of the grimmy black going down. What do you think? Perhaps someone could give better advice. \
But me like you... this is un-charted terrritory. I haven't a clue.
Keith
Afternoon all!
Zoe just a Dr. pepper for me. Taking a break from the house cleaning.

Jeff..Here in Onondaga County in Upstate N.Y cell phone use either using or texting is prohibited. It was so hard to enforce the city just added separate money to boost patrols just to get the cell phone users. And they have been writing a ton of tickets lately for it. Maybe people will finally figure out that it is unsafe. I have been to way to many car wrecks with the Fire Dept where the people were yappin away...and SMASH....

Rob, dry brush it with Poly Scale rust then dry brush it with poly Scale Mineral Red, don't be in a hurry just take your time and use a fan brush with the mineral red to highlight the rust.
Good Evening,
Zoe, this is my last visit to the Diner for a while, so all the drinks are on me!
Moving day is ahead of us. I am not really happy about this. Our flat is far from being ready, the bathroom is still a mess, the kitchen not working, but the place is now clean and has new doors inside. Leaving our house is a sad, sad issue - I know I will get very sentimental in a few moments.
Folks, I will be back in a week or so. I will miss you!
AmanaMedicWouldn't it be great to have some kind of...jammer, scrambler, something like the military uses to screw with enemy radios...to screw with the morons who insist on attempting to drive with a phone stuck to their head? Maybe a little concentrated burst of Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) to fry their phone?
Good morning, I'll take a stack of pancakes, on the King of Toddland (thanks Todd!) in honor of his year here.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure.
KEITH: You nailed it Sir, regardless of one's opinion of the War on Terror, the troops should ALWAYS come first and foremost in our thoughts.
Back to the topic of Satan's Instrument (telephone). I let the machine answer the phone about 95-96% of the time, unless I am expecting a call (work-related). I feel zero obligation to answer at any other time. the Wife and I have cell phones, but they are el-cheapo Trac Phones. They were obtained strictly for emergency communication purposes. Mine has seen a lot more use...again, work-related. I even had a monthly stipend in the home healthcare delivery days from having to use the cursed thing.
I could go on a major-leage rant about cell phones... maybe at a later time, I see Vinnie eyeballin' me from the back.
Have a good, SAFE, moron-free day...

Jeff.........Thats like some states are trying to make "texting" illegal. Only way to catch them is to see them do it. That law won't work real good.

Good morning...sun is shinning and its 45 here..i'll have coffee and toast please...thank you...Not much going on here..Try to finds some Atlas RS 3 shells for some drives without shells I picked up also getting rail road closed up so it will be out of sight and little fingers as a bunch of the grand kids will be here thanksgiving and it just too hard to watch them and visit too...You all have a good one...Jerry
RANT!
Right now I'm so hot i could melt a glacier by simply staring at it! I had a run-in with another cell phone yakking moron this morning. I was on my way home from my doctors appointment and I was in the right hand lane of 171 North through Leesville when I encountered much slower traffic ahead. I checked the traffic behind me in both northbound lanes, nothing there for a long stretch, turn on my left signal and start pulling around into the left lane. At this point a white PT Cruiser comes flying up behind me, does a left signal and cuts around, forcing me back over into the right lane where I had to go go off the highway to the right to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead of me. I got only a glimpse of the driver of the PT Cruiser and he had a darn cell phone on his ear! And he knew what he'd done too. When I pulled back onto the road and got over to the left lane I saw that he was stopped at a red light ahead. The light went green before I got there. He looked up at his mirror, saw my car behind him (saw the lightbar) and took off like a scalded dog. He weaved through traffic 10-15 mph over the limit (35) and I lost sight of him. Use of a cell phone or other such device should be illegal. In fact texting while driving is illegal here but nobody does much of anything about it! It's gonna take some moron running over a busload of kids before the law is enforced.
END OF RANT!

And all of you thanks for the help and encouragement----
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe a nice hot bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of dark roast in a R&GV mug if you please. I be in the front booth watching the switching going on.
TMarshLee- When you figure out where the time went, let me know. Kids, 21 and (gulp) 26.
Ah yes! Mine are 39 and 42 respectively. What is really scary is that the first bunch of 5th. and 6th. graders I taught are now in their 50s...........
I have yet to really start cleaning the house for all the company coming here later in the week. So today will be the day to at least begin. Guess I start in the far end and work back to the dining room......
Best get a move on , so I'll catch you all later!
Good Monday morning, sorry no card, just a request for some coffee.
Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 59. South wind around 6 mph. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. South southeast wind between 6 and 8 mph.
OK Joe, deal!
Lee- When you figure out where the time went, let me know. Kids, 21 and (gulp) 26.
Keith- Support the troops, not necessarily the war? Hey, you've got the most important part down!
J.R.- Looks like we deal with phones about the same. I do answer my phone while driving if I deem it safe. Although the sound is irritating to me, it does not bother me to not answer a phone. When I am on the phone usually I get a question or remark of, "Hello? You still there?" "Yup. Sorry, but at the moment I'm paying more attention to the Bozo's in the other cars coming at me from all directions trying to survive, so I admit I'm not paying a whole lot of attention to you. But that's unimportant, please continue."
Have a Great Day!!!
Good Morning All,
Well I guess getting the puter on line at home and logging on here was beginners luck. Couldn't get the thing to log on at all over the weekend and it's dead slow doing what little it will as well. Still had a productive weekend though. Got the basement floor broken up and dug out where the coal bin used to be. Finished and installed the bookshelves in the den, and started sorting out boxes of books still packed away after the fire. I can sympathize with Ulrich on the amount that still remains to do.
Also got a trainshow in yesterday. The Cheshire bi-annual show benefits the high school marching band and had a good number of vendors and at least 6 club layouts in 5 different scales.Best of all I found 2 interlocking towers for the New Haven I'd been looking for, one out of production. I can now make molds of the brick tower so I can kitbash different versions. The Micromark silicone rubber molding set works well for that stuff and is easy.
Todd I agree on the cell phone rant a few pages back. I do use mine on the road and have even used it while driving the rig but usually just for a brief call and never in traffic. Most of the time I've kept it turned off or on silent and let it go to voice mail. The land line at home we just let go to answer. In a lot of ways I don't even know why we keep it. Sort of the opposite of Ray, it's convenient to have the cell, I just won't let it rule me.
Der - I liked the English roundabouts when we visited there. Only problem were the bruises on my arm afterward (from my passenger hitting me and yelling "it's not a race!). While unfortunate, the destruction of the bridges was also instructional. Didn't realize dirt fill was used to level the interior for the roadbed. Wonder if that is the case because it cushioned the structure from the weight of trains (or road traffic)? Perhaps that is why we're still using structures built in the 1800's.
Gotta run - lots to do in the shop especially as I didn't set foot in here all weekend.
Catch y'all later, J.R.
Good morning all..~ Perhaps I shouldn't be posting this.. but I support our U.S. Troops. Maybe not the war, but I support the troops. So~ here it is ...
XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL
If you go to this web site, http://letssaythanks.com/Home1024.html you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.
How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them.
This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time and please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's.
Thanks for taking to time to support our military!
Good morning. Its a cool morning, and maybe some light showers today.
Not much planned today. Go to a few places around town, and maybe do some layout work. I only work four days this week, but its more like.....Work three, off one, and work one. They should have given us two days. Oh well.
Hope everybody has a good morning.
