Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have a Santa Fe mug of coffee and one of Petra's chocolate chip cookies, please (no offense meant, Ray, but y'know...). Thanks, Chloe!

Ulrich, hope you don't have to be without internet service for very long at all, and get back as soon as you can. We'll be keeping you and Petra in our AngelAngel And YAYYY!!!! Good to hear that you will be back after just an eternity of two months (or so, we know how accurate our installers over here are - hopefully German precision will apply to their time estimates over your way...) Smile,Wink, & Grin Even better to hear you got them to get things hooked up sooner! Thumbs UpYeah!!

Jeremy, good to hear your problem had the simpler solution for it!

Todd, on the in-town roads, don't you love the center-left-turn lanes? You know, those ones where you start to go into the center lane to turn left in about 25-50 feet, but as you are doing that, the guy (or gal, we'll be fair here) in the oncoming lane has started to pull into the same lane because he/she's going to turn left about 50-100 feet down?! Banged Head

Vincent - in our town the lights are timed like that, except if the (weight? magnetic?) sensors don't read any vehicle in, say the left turn lane, the left turn part of the cycle facing that will be skipped. Now after about 10 p.m. and until about 7 a.m., the heavier trafficked street will stay green until a vehicle pulls up on the other road to wait. But then again, we have one of those fun things - a roundabout! Kinda like a controlled game of chicken to see if they're gonna turn off before you pull on (and thus you'll have to wait too long), or are more likely to continue around the circle, and hit you broadside if you do pull out. Black Eye

Jeff, I'd agree on your O.L. King building - maybe add a window bricked over, too. Yeah!! Is that the Walthers coal company kit? Wouldn't mind finding a LHS that had one left. (I don't do the 'Bay any more since they went to forcing buyers to use PayPal 99 percent of the time, so that's not an option)

Johnboy - thanks for posting that story (sounded familiar, mostly). Thumbs Up

Garry, those are nice shots of that loco - should wake up Duke for a little while, at least!

Barry, wish Audrey a Happy B-Day from us, and if you have any birthday cake left that you haven't eaten, bring it by here - we'll wolf it down!Dinner But pace yourself, or you'll have to ease off on the eating for the rest of the week. (Oh, noooooo!)Smile,Wink, & Grin

Keith, you sound like you have a lot of HD-related experience. Do you have a parking space up front with your name on it, like Dick does at his over on the East Coast? Wink Smart cat you have there, but I'm sure if she weren't like most cats, but liked to play in the water, you'd have not known about the broken line until morning (when you stepped out of bed into mid-calf deep water...)Shock Not sure what to suggest on your stations and yard planning - would it help if you had a double track bridge instead of those two separate ones? My first thought was to reduce some of the stuff you're trying to fit in there (and if you've looked at my current layout sections, I know you're laughing by now...). Maybe someone smarter than me will chime in and help you more.

Jerry, nice diesel there leading that train, and I like cabeese, particularly the older metal style ones. Smile

Attaboy - good to see you by the Diner again, and

CONGRATULATIONS!!

on your upcoming retirement - and on your becoming an official ORF!! Now, watch out for the dreaded HD List (and I don't mean Home Depot, either)!Smile,Wink, & Grin Forty years of MR mags? Wow!! That might even take you into springtime. Best wishes with that project, though. Thumbs Up

Rob, good progress on the wife's layout, and I love your S-curve with the bridge. That should make for some really nice photos when you get the scenery done there! How's the new mask for your (& wife's) CPAP machines - did it get there yet?

CN Charlie, remember to have your hand looked at by your doctor, okay?

Well, about that time to head for home again. Prayers for comfort and healing (and great birthdays) tonight. AngelAngel

Blessings and a good night,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evening Diners!

Well Garry it's all your fault that I want a Berkshire. I had deleted it from my Klein's wish list but it's now back there and at the top. Those were really great photos! I may take a chance even though Rob didn't have a good experience with his. Berkshires weren't a common loco in Canada, in fact there were only 2 and both were owned by the TH&B. They were of a different design than those in the U.S. so I have no idea if they were as large. CN preferred Northern's for fast freight and CP used a version of a Pacific. But heck, the C&O ran into southern Ontario so I think I would  be perfectly justified.

This is just a short note as the tendon in one of my fingers is acting up again and typing just seems to aggrivate it. Guess I shouldn't complain if that is all I can find.

See you tomorrow,

CN Charlie

Ohhhh ... I don't know if I can continue tolerating withdrawel from Petra's strudel. It's going to be rough. Quick, Ray, pass some cookies. They will help I think.

Ulrich, does the local library gave internet? Our little library has public internet access for no charge.

Well, well, well, well ........... Look who finally woke up...... It's Duke. ... It must have been those berkshire photos.... They were emailed to me. I suspect they were from the Owosso steam event, but I am not sure.

Attaboy ... Congrats on retiring. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone nearby. You will get "volunteered" and be more busy than ever.

Barry .... Best wishes and happy b'day to Audrey !!!!!!

Rob .. The layout progress is looking great!

Jerry .... It looks like the old New York Central is alive and well in your neck of the woods.

I am nearly though building my department store for my city. I'm still waiting for my replacement chassis for my "floor model" SD9.

Evenin' folks!

Zoe how about a piece of pecan pie with a dollop of Vanilla Ice Cream on top.  Of course it is on my diet.....  just as long as I don't eat any supper anyway!   I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter and chat with Barry for a while.

I'm sitting here listening to Gregorian Chant......  Lovely stuff, just hope I don't fall asleep.  My sister the Deacon asked me to transcribe a bunch of tapes that she has had for a while but doesn't have anything to play them on anymore.  I'm putting them on CD for her.

Although I have gotten some stuff done that I needed to do, I have yet to make it down to the trainroom today.  Looks like I probably won't....Grumpy  I did manage to finish the flier for the Fall Meet that should have gone out to all the members a couple of weeks ago. Just got the last bit of info I was waiting for this afternoon.  All mambers of the Division who have email have it in the mailboxes already.  Those with snail mail will have to wait a bit longer.

Hope yu are all enjoying a nice evening!

Good afternoon all.  It's lunch time here at work so I'll have the meat loaf, mashed taters with gravy, and an RBF, Chloe.

Counting the hours now, I retire on Friday.  Yeah, this coming Friday, day after tomorrow.  Since my birthday is also on Sunday Pat has already told me not to make any plans for Saturday.  All I know so far is we are going out "someplace nice" for dinner.  Don't know what else she has up her sleeve.

Things are really quiet here at work now.  I stopped getting new cases almost four weeks ago.  My caseload is going down so it only takes an hour or two to do the work each day.  I spend the rest of the day twiddling my thumbs or playing games on my laptop.  Or reading the forums.

No mrr stuff to report.  That is on the back burner till spring when I get the garage out back converted to a train room.  I do have a project to work on over the winter though.  I bought an external hard drive to scan all my magazine articles onto.  It will take up less space than 40 years or so of magazines.  Obviously it is a long term project but it will at least give me something mrr related to do over the winter.

Guess I'll go now.  See you all later.

 Good Evening Folks,

Zoe, make that an RBF,  a burger and fries for me, I am tired and hungry. What? I am smelly? I should have washed up before coming in here? Next time, Zoe - I promise Cool

Spend all day in the new flat, assembling the furniture that was delivered today - not all, but some. The place is getting the flavor we want to have it - that´s nice. Now I am all tired, will get a shower, then it´s time to say hello to the sofa...

Barry - Petra and my sincere congratulations to Audrey on her birthday

 Petra made this for Audrey:

I called up the phone company and complained about the delay in getting connected to the lifelines again. Told them that I have a heart condition and urgently need access to communication means. They promised me to do this now on Nov. 30th - one week without you folks ....Sad

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a bowl of "old people" cereal and my cup of dark roast coffee to start the day.  I'll go sit in the front booth and watch the switching going on outside.

Currently 41°F outside here iun the Finger Lakes.  High should be around 55°F with lots of bright sunshine as well.  I will most likely take advantage of the nice weather to do some outdoors stuff.

Did I hear something abut Audrey having a birthday?  What Barry?  Number 29 again???  Well Happy B-Day from me.

Guess I best get moving so I will catch you all later!

Ok.. you guys.. here what I am working with.  I want at least.. these two buildings.  I have two mains coming into.  These two buildings I feel need to be placed first  in relation to the bridges.  100_0486.jpg picture by Blazzin55

It is my glass canopy along with the station are a must for me.   I have two mains that can come in from two or more alternate routes.  The bridges have to go there.. to make more room.  Oh yeah~  I cut out a section of wooden ramp to hopefully allow more room for the .. lol.. for the yard?  Just considering these 3.. I have / feel I will only have enough space for a 'Busy Train Station' with liners and locos.. and the sort.100_0482-1.jpg picture by Blazzin55

I feel like there is enough room for at least these 3 .. and then be able to go from there.  My problem and I'll be totally honest here.  This is over-whelming.  I have done some reading.. and still I am at some more reading to do. Just looking at the glass canopy.. it would appear that there are two Arrival / Departure lines for a total of 4 tracks coming in .. 'under the canopy'.    I am at a loss as to how to place the 2 mains coming into the station.  And have many alternate routes to add or take away.  And the angle as to which they come off the mains into the appropiate lanes / lines .. into the station.  I really want to get this right.. and would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.  Here's another pic.. diner1.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Ok.. the red arrows mark the original curve.. btw.. I'm not too worried about that.. the wooden ramps were made with a minimum of 18 radius.. (on the inside mark.. not center line) so my curves are closer to a 19 inch radius.  The double blues.. are the two different ways the mains can come into or  leave the station .. I guess.. lol.  And those double blues.. can be separated ..so one main comes in separately.. for each side.  The yellow line represents... my ladder.. ?  lol.. oh boy.. and at the bottom.. a small single curve to represent going under the bridges .. to help accomidate the lines.. going through.  Ok.. here it is.. lol.. Help?  I came here.. so I can be amongst friends.. you guys know my position on this layout.. and all I wanted to do .. was a simple fiddle yard.

Barry, sometimes I just say.. "  Ah Hon~, thats at least 5 trips to the store... it will take a whole weekend".. " I better wait for you to help me"  And she has .. many times.. and as usual, as I teach her,  she is teaching me.  I start to tell her about  'How to replace the electrical outlet box... and tell her.. "Now you are suppose to examine the wires.. and try to see if there is any burnt marks on the wires.. some reason why this box basically blew up dear~"  and she replies.. "Like that one that is shoved up up in the corner?"  "OMG~" I would have never seen that wire with my eyes.... she has shown me so many times as I have taught her.. whether its changing disk brakes.. even welding.. she got the flame perfect after I was ready to give up.  If I posted a pic of this 'Five foot nothing' you wouldn't believe it.   Ok... another cup a coffee.. and I'm going to post a nice 'morning question'.. I hope some of you can help.  This is probably not a time to respond.. and I would guess that is why some ppl lose a long post.. who knows.. ok.. stay tuned.

Good morning.  Another nice day of weather.  High about 58.  Like the weather man said the other day.........."You know the cold days are coming, but when is the question."  Next week is my birthday, and the weekend we are suppose to go out, well the high says 36deg.  Maybe it will change.

 Anyways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not much planned today.  Maybe clean some, and head into the basement for a bit.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

  "The usual,  coofee please~  (ugh)"

  Morning all~

Jeremy, everyone has had... and has water problems.  In short my story is about a water-line (Ice cube maker to fridg. line)  braking in the middle of the night.  Only because of my 17 year old cat, who was so smart.. she had run to our bed.. placed her wet paws on my wife's face.. to let her know...   "Where taking on WATER!"  Needless to say.. water.. everywhere 2 inches deep and I know we're  Knee deep in problems.  I run outside in my boxers, turn off the main water line.  And my wife asks.. "What do we do?"  I said.. "Grab a broom and start sweeping this stuff out of the house" !

But in short, this is what I do with plumbing problems or anything else.  Get a 'Free Estimate'  at least by doing so, you will know how much it might cost and you might get some general idea what is really wrong from it.. and perhaps learn how its done.. or maybe decide if you can fix it yourself.  What ever the case, you will at least know whats wrong .. so it can be fixed.  You will know how much it will cost you as well.  I always look at any project.. (not counting my layout) .. as ..'How many trips to Home Depot is this going to take?'      mmm  coffee~

Hello---

It is sunny and kinda cool out there--at 3C right now and going to be 11C for our high. Tonight will cloud up and we'll have periods of rain for tomorrow and showers for Friday. Gonna be a nice day for today anyways--

Jeff: That pacer looks wonderful in the pic. I'd a thought it'd be half buried in the grasses by now! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Got some stuff to do today--

AUDREY is having her BIRTHDAY and we're doing a BBQ out back for this one----

Good morning. It's 37 and clear. The high will be in the low 60's and sunny.

Got a doctor appointment to go to this morning for a general checkup. Other than that I don't have much planned. There are a couple of buildings on the layout that need the mortar lines high lighted. These were done with chalk some years ago but in a humid environment it's almost like the chalk fades away. So I intend to redo them with the same Country Gray acrylic paint that I now use. The problem is that one of them at the back of the layout, well out of my reach. It's still hard for me to go under the layout to the pop-up access so I'll to come up with something that I can grab the building with. Perhaps a 1x2 with a screw on the end that can go through an open window of the building.

Mornin Biscuits and Gravy please. Coffee too thanks.

Today: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Tonight: A 50 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 40. South wind around 8 mph.

Ya know, with all these steamers running around I shouldn't have too much trouble justifying one. Oh, already did that. OK two.

 Good Morning,

as everyone over the Big Pond seems to be heading for ZzzZzzZzz, I thought to drop by and keep company to Flo, Chloe and Zoe here on their early/late shift.

It´ll be just coffee in my LKAB mug, please.

It will be a busy day - the kitchen stuff will be delivered and I will start to assemble the new kitchen. I had to take a day off from the seminar, which is not really hurting me... Tongue

To all - one of the very few pleasure I enjoy is to read about my friends here in the Diner - being stripped of that is going to be tough. My telephone/internet connection will be cut-off by November 25th and re-connected on ???. My provider told me that this may take up to 8 weeks ShockSadSad DeadBut I will be back - bad news for all who were hoping that I may be gone for good Evil

Vincent - I had the Porsche only for about a year. It was fun to drive for leisure and pleasure, but literally a pain in the a** when driving in the usual rush hour traffic. I had bought it used, only two years old and less than 10.000 miles on it and paid less than half of its sticker price. Made a little profit selling it. It was nice while I had it, but I never missed it. I guess it was one of those midlife-crisis issues ... Wink Petra never liked it.

You all have a good day!

***CN Charlie, my Walthers 2-8-4 is beautiful to look at, but only ran perhaps 20 minutes before quiting. Now it just whirs inside and goes nowhere.Grumpy Gurrrr! Not sure if I want to try getting it fixed or use it as siding decor. I will not buy another one. So far, the 0-8-0 still runs fine.

***Garry, awesome pics. Planted that steamer on the desktop for the wife to see. What a stunning pic.

***Johnboy, thanks for the warning but it's toooo late, already used it. Also soaked it so completely with scenic cement, I doubt I could get it back up if I wanted to. Will know if it works as soon as I clean up the rails and try running the wife's train on it.Whistling

I didn't use Word, so I hope this posts OK. Gulp!

Jeff- By golly you sure got the bricks down pat under the bottom left two windows. Looks just like some patches of old repaired but needs it again, and in need of tuck pointing sections on a couple buildings uptown in here in Willieville.Thumbs Up

You mean that Willieville has brick buildings? Smile,Wink, & GrinBig SmileMischief

When I was growing up in Woodstock ON as kids a bunch of us would say that nothing ever happened there--that the biggest news that could happen there was an insect crossed a street. All Greg ( a schoolmate and now general mgr at a large ins. firm in TO and close friend) and I would do in the summer would be to ride our bikes into the country and bike into Ingersoll---natch--took only 15-20 minutes for us to do this---we were that close to Ingersoll---

Well, we's be headin' off to Zzz

Have a good night---prayers for those in need

Evening all.

Just stopping in.

I'll talk tomorrow (cause I'm not even sure why I'm still up...)

EDIT: looks like I got TOP (again!). Since I'm basically broke, I'll wash some dishes tomorrow to pay it off...

Got to work on the Whataburger a little bit this afternoon. But tomorrow! Tomorrow should allow me more time! ah ha!

Johnboy- Absolutely wonderful story and very very true. I am saving that and posting it on my wall in the basement. Thanks for sharing.

DerJohn- Your experience sounds so much like everything I attempt. It's a wonder I get anything done at all. Wait, most times I don't. Looks like it turned out OK though.

Rob- I always type in word and post like Der said ( surprised Jeff didn't poke in with an I told you so. He's a big advocate of posting from a word processing program). I only lost one post and I've done the word thing ever since. Well, unless it's something real short. Oh and check the sand with a magnet because it has a tendency to have metal in it. Ah I see Johnboy's already warned you.

Garry- WOW!!!! I looooove that second photo!!!! I've saved it and it WILL be blownup and printed! That is such a great shot! And I'm a diesel guy. Ya know pictures like that make me want to step back in eras. But then what would I do with my Whataburger.

Well, prayers for those in need

Picked up a couple bags of sand at HD (for an outdoor rock wall) and discovered it is fairly fine stuff. So, added some on top of the ballast work I had already done and it looks better/finer now.

ROB:  Just make sure you run a magnet over and through that sand to make sure there is no metal particles in it.  That would really screw things up for you.

I checked a couple of sand samples  last summer and there was lots of metal in it.  There was a much in the sand as there was in some crusher dust that I checked as well.   I sure threw that idea out  right then.  I then checked some bagged play sand (sand box) and that proved to be clean and clear of any metal.

Just make sure or you will be Banged Head,  and you don't need that right now.
