Good Morning, Zoe. I'll have a bowl of oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon, please, glass of milk and some coffee in a Santa Fe mug, please 'n' thank you.Smile

Mreagant, what are the ingredients in Portugese soup? Sounds like your wife had her hands full with the wee ones, all right. Nice thing is, being able to send them home at the end of the day when she has five at once. I don't know how Moms with multiple preschool age kids at home manage it.

Yeah, Jeff, probably best get that molar taken care of, especially if it's busted.(Ouch!)Let's see if we can get it where you don't have to go to a doctor for a while, okay?

PC, thanks for the encouragement on my Texan. I'll just get the frets done for how, and maybe later I'll see about any pickup installation. I've played pretty much for myself the past several years, anyway.

Sawyer, keep at it, as Mreagant said. It sounds like you have a good attitude about your playing, too (another good thing to have).

Lee, your prototype sure has a lot of creeks along its route - any of them actually have water, or how many are dry half the year, I wonder? Thanks for a few more possible names, too!

Hey, sleepy-eyed Ray - I guess I shouldn't mention that we're supposed to hit 71 F (22 C) this afternoon, should I? Wink (currently 56 F/13 C, and sunshine). Good luck on plowing through your list today.

Todd, hope you get some MRR'ing in today - how long does it take you for mowing your yard? And I think it was you asking about those 34' (Harriman?) coaches - go to Horizon Hobby or Athearn's site for a link to Roundhouse's. They may show if they have those in production currently.

G'Morning, Ulrich - good to hear you're having some pleasant weather (for now). Fur-lined boots, eh? Smile,Wink, & Grin I'm betting that it may not be too much longer until Calif.Tom (being not far from those mountains near him, Sierras, I think) may need to be sure his car has the sn*w tires on it.

So far, w**k today has been better than yesterday, but it's only been a couple of hours here. I'm hoping for a lunch away from the office. Co-worker gave me about 2/3rds of a carton of Pepsi (her son came to visit over the weekend, but didn't drink that many, and she and her hubbie don't touch the stuff), so I have a couple in one of those little fridges in the telephone operator's office (across the hall).

I'll join Jeff and Barry in the corner booth to have my oatmeal and chit-chat a bit. Hey guys!...

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Found out that I can't get the tooth pulled today. The dentist is booked solid all day but they have me down for 8:15 tomorrow morning. Later today The Vernon Home Health nurse is coming to change my dressings  and I'm expecting a new shipment of home iv antibiotics today. All that today then the dentist tomorrow and two doc appointments Thursday. No rest for the wicked I guess.

 Good Afternoon,

well, the sun is getting prepared for bedtime over here - much too early for my taste.

I am feeling a bit "queasy" - undefined, not really well - just like Todd. Hope you did not send whatever you are coming down with to me... Big Smile Zoe, make that a mug of chamomile tea for the both of us, please.

Went to the garage to have my fur lined boots , eh, winter tires installed, but that´s about all what happened today. The weather is still nice - signs of a cold winter to come.

Jeffrey - it is about time to shed that habit of acquiring all those kinds of illnesses a freshman in med school has to learn about. GET WELL, please! Haha, come to think of it, first your foot, now your mouth, so it´s foot & mouth disease.... Smile,Wink, & Grin

 A good day to everyone!

Good Morning All,

Back from Atlanta which went well if somewhat cold and too rainy. Just catching up on loose ends, chasing a 40 ft open trailer so we can transport a pole from the Croton Harmon yards to Danbury, trying to resort the shop and tidy up. Move debris in the yard and put the Focus together enough to roll it around.

I'll try to drop in around lunch time and catch up a bit.  CUL, J.R.

Mornin' everyone!

I've been catching up on my sleep.  Didn't even roll over and look at the clock until 10AM.  Flo I'll have a nice hot bowl of Cream of Wheat this morning to go along with a pot of dark roast coffee for my FGLK mug.

I have a whole day of "finish up those projects that I started last Spring that I never got done" ahead of me.  Looks like another day without precipitation so I will most likely spend it getting the rest of the final lawn mowing done, picking up and putting away, storing things, and maybe even some time in the layout room tonight.

Currently cloudy and 54°F (We're havin' a heat wave......  Tropical heat wave.....) with a high of 58°F sometime this afternoon.

Todd, hope you get feeling better as the day wears on.  We don't need anyone else on sick call here in the diner.  (Good pun BTW.....Wink)

Jeffrey you don't want any more infections!  Good luck at the dentist.

Hope you all have a great day!

Not much planned today.  Maybe make some trees for the layout, and cook some dinner later for the wife.  Shes been in a "funk" lately.  ]

Hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning. Just coffee please. Maybe a glass of Eds OJ. I just got up. I'm not feeling exactly chipper this morn. Kinda achey (sp?) and slow. If I looked like the S.L.O.W., then I'd be fine but that's not the case.

Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 70. South wind between 7 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 17 mph. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. South wind between 9 and 11 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Looks to be a good corn drying day today. Farmers will be happy.

I need to mow the yard but would just rather work inside on the RR. We'll see what happens.

Have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning

Sorta kinda sunny right now--with the clouds and a 30% chance of showers back for the afternoon---evening--tomorrow-----highs will be in the mid 'teens until the weekend when we will be rainy, windy and 10C for highs

I's be having a somewhat lazier day than I've been usually been getting. So today will be spent in the trainroom actually getting somewhere with the layout!Approve This afternoon a few of my friends will be coming here to do a run through OP session----see if the bugs show up!Whistling

Chloe, I'll have a coffee and some toast/jam please---I'll be over at the corner booth with Jeff.

Good morning,

Jeff, that’s it, you’re done! You have used your allotment of troubles, you will be required to sit in the corner booth and have a great time for the next 20 minutes! That’s good your Dad offered to pay for the tooth extraction and you are right no infections!  I doubt you want to hang out in the hospital for an extended stay, good luck with the DDS visit.

Todd, Chicago is only 4 hours that way (pointing west).  The prototype I’m freelancing originally ran from Buffalo Creek to Stinky River (Buffalo, NY to Chicago, IL).
Jim, one of the reasons I named the town on my layout FOX CREEK is if you look at the timetable of the prototype you would see:

I gotta go to town today to see about getting a busted molar pulled. Dentist wants $102. My father says he'll pay for it. Ordinarily I'd put up with the pain but right now I can't take the risk of getting any kind of infection.

Evening all.  First time I've been able to stop in for several days, but thought I needed a bit  of down time.  Today was FULL of kids--an 8 month old we keep every week day, our 19 month old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson that we also keep every day PLUS a 5 year old kindergartner and a 2nd grader from across the street -- it was a school holiday.  Everyone of these sweethearts are good kids but 5 at a time gets to be a bit too much.  Patient wife was exhausted by 5 pm and I did what I could to help.  She gets paid a little money for doing it, but I know she mostly just wants to help those who need it.  Look around you, Angels are nearer than you think.

Pretty full after a couple of bowls of Portuguese Soup (recipe available) so just a cup of decaf and I'm off to bed.

Sawyer--I was a soccer coach for a number of years and I urge you to keep after the ball; hard tackles and confidence are a winning combination.  Getting demoralized is part of the game too, but getting over it while you can do something about it is what it takes to win.

Evening' a carmel apple please. It's that time of year.

SSSSHHHHHTTTHHHUUMP! Whoa Jeff! I don‘t care what Ray said! I wasn‘t going to tell an Indian joke. I‘m not sure I even jnow one. (wow the guy can throw a knife.) Yeeuuck! I'm glad things went well at the docs office but watching him fish around in your foot! I get the willies just thinking about it.

Speaking of Jeff, I bet the cable company just loves to have someone who knows what they're talking about hooked into a line with troubles. Can't use the old standby excuses.

Robby- yeah they have no clue why, he was a decent kid, no drinking, no drugs. Not a complainer just your average guy.

Ulrich- I hope you have that idea out of your head. I can't comprehend the thought. I just don't understand how anyone could seriously think that way. Not only for reasons that would be way too long for here but the loved ones. The pain of those left behind. The guilt of those who feel they should have done something. Please, never again have those thoughts. If you do please, please, please seek counseling. It is a very permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Lee- You forgot Chicago, (stinky river)Laugh I know it's not even near Ohio but I couldn't resist.Laugh

Jim- Other than Accurail I sure can't think of any inexpensive kits. Does Roundhouse/ MDC still make kits? Gee that reminds me I was going to look for 34 ft passenger coaches. Guess it's too late to see if I can get the one from the train show now. Guess I'll hit the bay or Walthers and see what I can dig up that won't set me back for a month.

PC, I was thinking that the axe was your 'instrument of destruction'.... Did I see a photo of your guitar earlier, or just hallucinate that? Mischief You got me thinking about getting my guitar out, which needs refretting (I've been thinking about having a pickup put in the old Epiphone acoustic - Texan model - but that'd cost more than the $30-45 that just the frets would run me).

I have 5 different guitars, all for different sounds and effects.  And that Texas.....GO FOR IT!  Rediscover that old love of playing, and do it right!  Fix that puppy up!  At the very least, a nice vintage strum stick like that deserves it!

Just a hot cider before bed.

You guys are so kind.  The rocks came out of the driveway.  I don't know how many gazillion pours that it took to complete the streambed.  After Larry completes the trestle, I will fill in the underbrush.  We even have a guy that Larry made a fishing pole for.

Well, I played my tail off tonight and we lost 3-2. Just got demoralized in the 4th.

I had a couple hard tackles (tackle is the term in soccer for taking the ball), but hey, long as I get the ball, it's legal. And both kids I tackled were classic players, so they can play up to that level. One was a slide tackle that I did a split on, the other I slid like in baseball around a kid's legs, then he had to jump over me with a leg on each side. Was rather comical, I'm sure.

Evening, Chloe - and it sure beats the day...Banged HeadBanged Head 8 to 5:30 with no time away from the office does NOT w**k for me! About ready to spit nails by the time I left... Decided I didn't want to bite any of my fellow MRR club members' heads off tonight, so I'm skipping that. (We have a few - what's the word, Ulrich? Weisenheimers? - in the club, and this evening my tolerance for any of them might be close to Jeff's feelings toward his internet provider.Grumpy

Oh, yeah - I'll have a cup of hot cocoa and an oatmeal raisin cookie, unless there's some of the Apfelkuchen left! Dinner Thanks!

And Jeff - good to hear your appointment with the foot doctor went well this afternoon. Hope he got them all and didn't leave any behind, rolling around in there. On your cable company, I'd say fixing it might take as long as they can stall it off (because it might cost them some real money to fix properly)...But I'm just guessing. Wink

Ulrich, good to hear of your whittling away at the pile o'paperw**k. That's the way to make progress on getting closer to this side of the pond. Thumbs UpYeah!! And give Petra a hug from us!

Bill (RT), good to see you stopping by - anything new going on?

Todd, that's terrible news for the family, and others in the community as well. Shame that no one saw any clues to try to head it off. On those Athearn Blue Box kits, I'm sure they make more on their RTR cars, and nowadays, a lot of companies are looking at the maximum contribution to their bottom line. Nowadays, I guess the next best alternative is Accurail kits, but with their boxcars, you can't have the doors open on most of them (for the hobos to get a peek as they're riding your RR's rails). Anyone know of any other kits at affordable prices (cheaper than P2K ones or Branchline)?

Ray, that's a neat photo with the ship - was that taken at the museum layout? Ah, I see you answered me later. Somebody put a bit of w**k into that ship - almost as much in it as in Sue's trestle.

And speaking of Sue, I'm with (whoever it was that asked), did you have a jig or a kit to w**k from in building that? You and Barry could trade off tips on the finer points of trestle-building (and give those duller ones like myself some l'arnin'...).

Vincent, that 'two paint types' snafu is one I try to avoid if I can at all (don't ask how I know about that...). I'm guessing you have some photos of the pilots for your Geeps to w**k from, if you're thinking of building some from scratch, right?

Duke, glad I could help you and RT reconnect again - hope you can find what you need to get a manual/parts list. I think Lionel made some HO scale at some point in their history, but I don't recall it lasting very long at all. Sorry for disturbing your ORF nap, by the way. Zzz Ah, I see he's back at it...

Lee - thanks for some ideas for names for parts of my scenery (creeks, towns, etc.). Thumbs Up

Is it the weekend yet? No? Sad I feel like I missed last weekend, between on-call Friday night and being under the weather Sunday morning. Didn't get much at all done on the layout. Last night and today I fiddled around with some ideas for the layout, like what-if I did a corner section (3' X 3') with turntable and roundhouse next, trying to have it so I could connect up to the current layout sections now, and later rotate it to connect to a different section. But it's not looking quite as good as MR's sectional Beer RR layout that they had a bit ago. Oops

I saw that Accurail is having a sale on some of their car kits again/still, at 40 percent off on many. And H-Lobby has the "25 percent off one item" coupon on their website.

Our weather warmed up today (I heard it reported) - got to the mid/upper 60's today (F) and to reach 70 F or so tomorrow. That, after breaking the low temperature record of 29 F on Saturday night (by 1 degree, at 28 F)! Maybe we're going to have our Indian summer this week. Hey, wouldn't mind that too much.

I'll be at the window booth, focusing more on the evening local than on my w**kday (and enjoying my hot cocoa - still cool out tonight).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Blazzin; here in Ohio an Indian summer is a one or two week period of warm temperatures preceded by a killing frost. I however live very close to Lake Erie; the warm water (55F) protects my area from the first few killing frosts.  The lake helps up until the ground drops below 32F and then the warm lake causes lake effect snow storms.

No ill feelings in the Great lakes region between us and the Indians, matter of fact if you look around almost every land/water feature is still called by its original Indian name. Cuyahoga (crooked river) Ashtabula (plentiful fishing), Maumee, Erie, Sandusky, Arcola Creek, Some of the names have been converted to English: Turtle Creek, Otter creek, Raccoon Creek, Turkey Creek, Swan Creek, etc…

Got the foot doc visit over with. Today was the day he had scheduled to remove the antiseptic beads. He got better than half of them of them out on the initial pull then the cord broke, so he had to 'go fishing' for the rest of the string. Thank God I couldn't feel him fishing around in there. Just watching it was enough. He did get them all out though. I have to go back on Thursday for a new set of X-rays. Oh joy.

Ray:  What a TERRIFIC harbor scene!  I love the tall ship--you must have gone bleary-eyed rigging that baby.  Beautiful job!

Hi Tom!  Wish I could take credit for that scene, but it was a shot from the layout I saw this weekend at the Medina RR Museum.  For such a huge layout, it had some incredible modeling on it.  I should have paced the length of this thing, but I would estimate that the layout itself occupies around 10' by 100' at least.  While it is still "under construction" most is finished and done very well.  They are using NCE DCC.  The Dispatchers Booth itself is a work of art!

I managed to get rid of about six 30gal bags of packing peanuts that have been sitting around here for several years.  The UPS Store about a block away from where I live took them all and was glad to have them...  More of the old business stuff taken care of.  I also signed the form to get rid of the business insurance as I am not doing any on location recording or DJing any more.  My insurance man said that what little equipment I have left will be covered under my homeowners insurance.

OK, back to w**k!  later!

Hey ya'll

Just got back from class. I'm waiting at home right now for a delivery of mattresses, then I'll take care of some errands and maybe make a trip to the LHS.

The plan for the day is to make some pilots for some of my older Proto 2000 Geeps. A few were missing them when I bought them. I had made some earlier, but the got messed up when painting. The first black was too shiny so I hit it with a flatter black and the second black attacked the first one and caused wrinkly paint. I'm gonna try sanding them and repainting. If that don't work well, I'll cut some new ones.

Sue, the bridge looks great!

Duke, dunno what that's supposed to be. Looks like modified GP7 or 9 body on an SD chassis.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Had another front move in last night, but this one's from Alaska, so it's a colder storm, which means an early snow in the Sierra, possibly.  Not sure, but I think we're in for a WINTER out here, for a change.  Unless October turns out to be our 'wet' month and the Drought comes back in to stay.  Hard to tell, anymore.

But Spooky and Uff-Dah are very happy with their new Winter Coats, so it must mean SOMETHING, LOL!

I've been on line at IMBD the past several days trying to see if any of the movies I lost on the DVR have hopefully made it to either Video or DVD, but so far, no luck.  GRR, Mumble!   In case you didn't know, my OTHER hobby is collecting Classic Movies, and I got a ton of them off of TCM and FMC that weren't commercially available before my satellite box blew out in the last hurricane.  Among the films I lost was a really GREAT 1930 RR film called DANGER LIGHTS that was filmed on the old Milwaukee in Montana, and had some incredible steam action in it.

Oh well, I'll spend another 3 years searching the tube and seeing if they'll all show up again, sigh. Sigh

Ray:  What a TERRIFIC harbor scene!  I love the tall ship--you must have gone bleary-eyed rigging that baby.  Beautiful job!  Way back when I was in college, I built a Revell model of the HMS Victory and the rigging took me forever!

Sue:  Wow, that's a CAMERA!!  And a beautiful layout to use it on, to boot!   Beautiful shots!

Well, I've got my mother and sister for the week starting this afternoon.  My sister has to come down here from Nevada City for radiation treatments to kill her thyroid problem, and instead of driving back and forth 120 miles every day, they're just going to move in while she's undergoing the therapy.  Luckily, the hospital--Mercy San Juan--is about two blocks down the street from us, so she won't have to worry about driving.  Mom's 95 and her short-term memory has gone 'goodbye', so the conversations will be very 'circular' around here.  But luckily, I've got a lot of patience, and if I keep her supplied with Romance novels and re-runs of "The Golden Girls", she'll be just fine.   Besides, I'll be teaching the rest of the week (today's a School holiday for us--the Feast of the North American Martyrs).

Well, have to run out into the garage and photograph some of my old Athearn metal freight cars for a buddy of mine who's never heard of them (boy, that's DATING me, LOL!).   We were discussing the demise of the BB kits and I mentioned the older kits to him and got a blank look.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Smile

Oh wow, I see I just bought lunch.  Eat up, gang!  Tongue

Just got off the line with the cable company. I told them that there's been a recurrent problem out here with the signal going down. The guy on the other end of the line looks at his monitor and sees that I'm on line right at that moment. Well of course I am! If the cable signal was out I wouldn't be able to talk to him. I told him that if he looks at the history of the node for this area he'll see exactly what I'm referring to. Sure enough, he could see there hasn't been any steady activity of more than an hour out here since Saturday night. He's sent a tech out here to look things over. If he gets here before 1 pm OK, if not, I'll be gone to my foot doc appointment and obviously I can't be in two places at once. I wonder how many weeks it'll take to iron the problem out this time.

Mornin' everyone!

Janie, first thing I need a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.  I'll get back to you after I stare at the menu for a while........

Kieth and others, we are also having an "Indian Summer" this week. Supposed to be sunny and warmer all week.  Be a good time to finish some outside odds and ends.

Jim the battery in my Canon Digital rebel XSi is an 8.1v made specifically for that model camera.   The battery from my older XT is different and can't be interchanged.  I would imagine that there are 3rd. party ones that would fit, but I don't know.  RS has batteries for almost anything (or so they say) and is about the only place I can still get a battery that fits my ancient Sony Video Camera.

So Jeffrey, have you heard the one about Tonto and the Lone Ranger riding ........  Opps!  No problem!  I'll be quiet.... Just kidding Jeffrey, really!!! No, no put the butter knife down.....!

Just about time to start getting some things accomplished, but first how about a tall ship for transporting goods on the Great Lakes?

Have a great day!

"More Coffee please~"  "Thanks"

You guys got me thinkin about an Indian Summer... well.. at first.. when ever I've heard it.. that means.. there are two full moons within the same month.  Yeah.. I know.. thats what you also call a 'Blue Moon' .. cuz thats when it happens.. 'once in a blue moon'  but according to Wiki.. Indian summer is an informal expression given to a period of sunny, warm weather in autumn the northern hemisphere, typically in late October or early November, after the leaves have turned but before the first snowfall.  But if you go to this site.. http://www.stardate.org/nightsky/moon/ you actually see that there are two full moons this Oct.  Thus being an Indian Summer.  Maybe I should let Wiki know.

Jeff.. The wife just took off .. I'm working on the layout and I've Flags Of Our Fathers on.  Cloudy morning and cold.

Sir Madog
Jeffrey - Indian jokes? Never heard of any - are they like our Bavarian jokes? The crazy thing about those ethnic "jokes" is that they tell you a lot about the guy who is telling them - Mischief

Isn't that the truth! If anything it let's me know I'm at least 120 IQ points ahead of him.

Todd - I am sorry to hear about your friend. So many people are uprooted nowadays and for some, the only way out seems to commit suicide. This is so sad, so very sad! I have to admit that I was very close to go that way also, but I just cannot leave Petra behind in this miserable situation.
