Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

ROFLMAO!  You mean this one???

I have finally had a couple days where I could spend quite a bit of time in the layout room.  Finsihed up a Jordan Model T Van and have started assembling a Model T 4 door touring car (1914).  So far (knocks on wood counter) it is going together quite well except for the 3 little foot pedals that go in the floor.  Most of the kits for the "T" have all 3 pedals in one piece.  Not this one!  Little tiny 1/16" pieces that have to be cut off the sprue and then glued in place.  Fist one went in place fine.  2nd and 3rd while holding them with a pair of tweezers went (how would Barry say?)  Twiiiiinnnnnng, blunkkkkkkk, whizzzzzzzzzzzzz.........  Off into the netherlands of the room never to be seen again.  So I fabricated 2 more from some left over stock for another project.

I also made a kerosine lantern placed on a wooden shipping box by the freight house.  Just in case you haven't been in the WPF thread:

Flo I'll have a cup of decafe and a couple of those chocolate chip cookies to tide me over to breakfast.

Hope you all have a good night!

Well, I'm now offically p*****d at Mom now. Cause I just LOVE coming home from a weekend at Dad's to find all of my Train Stuff from my desk in the Den thrown in a box out in the garage.

  • Magazines: DO NOT NEED TO BE IN THE GARAGE
  • wet-apply decals: DO NOT NEED TO BE IN THE GARAGE
  • My test track stuff: DOES NOT NEED TO BE IN THE GARAGE

I have Walthers windows that have now been seperated from their cars' inserts, loose poeces that I had bundled together, parts and couplers that are now no longer near where they are needed...

Barry- I still have and use my K1000. Bought that thing in May of 1980. It still works like the day I got it and takes fantastic pictures. (better than the wifes Sony Cyber Shot) In, might as well say, 30 years I've taken who knows how many pictures with that thing. I love it. The only reason I don't use it for this stuff is the whole gotta take the rolls worth of pictures, then have them developed then scan etc..... You know hassle city man. Can't just take a picture or two and put it on the web. Honestly the main reason I'm interested in the K2000 is it sounds like the digital version of the K1000. Not real fancy and with the luck I've had with the old girl I just feel confident it'll be ok. And when you're talking $499 United States dollars I want to feel confident. It has the one supplied lens but I've seen them on the bay for the same price give or take a couple dollars with two lenses. Never bought that expensive without seeing it first. Not sure what I'll do.

Ray- LOL Yup! That's the one! Better be careful the revenuers can track her real easy. Hey, there's a thought, when ya get this judging done, for another whimsical scene. A group of revenuers following their Pink still sniffing elephant! ROFLOL! OH I kill me! Oops, I think I got a cramp in my side. (he he) My stomach hurts.

Morgan- Mom doesn't get it huh? I guess you best put the stuff away before you leave and she won't move it. This comes from a guy who now has 6 square inches on his modeling desk. I better clean mine up myself. And as far as the pink elephant goes, I think you're a bit too young to be seeing pink elephants (said while chuckling). Unless it's on Ray's layout of course.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Robby- I see where Aggro has thrown out some bait hmmmmm. We're waaaaaaiiiiting.Big Smile

Getting to be a little chilly in the house that means when I hit the sack I'll be out like a light. It's a bit cool for my tastes but I gotta admit it's great sleeping weather!

Almost forgot, if you'ens haven't had a chance to check out WPF yet DO IT!! A fantastic weekend. Also a very good fantastic display from our regular diners too! I know it irritates some but I just had to leave my thanks this weekend. It was great. (of course it's always great)

Evening all.  I'll just take a late-night RBF please.  Flying went perfectly awesome!  Only hitch in the entire flight was at the airport before we even left the ground.  We fly out from Montgomery Regional Airport (Dannelly Field), which is also shared by the 187th Fighter Wing of the Alabama Air National Guard.  Well, its drill weekend, and the unit is putting every F-16C that they own into the air, so there are 6 Fighting Falcons lined up at the end of the runway, with another 8 or so waiting to pull onto the runway.  We call the tower and request an intersection takeoff ahead of these guys just so we don't have to wait forty forevers to even get into the air.  Tower calls us back, tells us cleared to taxi into position and hold (now here's the kicker, the ANG guys talk to the tower on a different frequency than us, but the tower talks back to them on the same freq as us, so we can hear the tower, but not the F-16 drivers).  SO, we're sitting and waiting for our takeoff clearance and we hear "Voodoo One (ANG guys's call sign for the day) did you call us?"  We look back and the lead F-16 driver just waves at us, and of course the first thought we have is oh great, they're gonna run us over!  Anyway, to make a long story short, we're given an expedited takeoff clearance and as soon as we're in the air, the tower turns us off runway centerline and we're greeted by the sound of all of the 187th's birds getting airborne in a hurry!

Today however was a different story, had to rush Amy (the wife) to the hospital.  She went to our normal doctor back on thursday to find out she's got bronchitis and was prescribed an albuterol inhaler along with some cough syrup to help her get over.  Well today we found out that she's mildly allergic to the albuterol.  She took it this morning and while we were at church, she said that she got light-headed, her heart started racing, and that ther chest was actually getting tighter instead of getting looser (which is what albuterol is supposed to do, relieve chest tightness).  So off to the emergency room we go.  4 hours later she's discharged after the docs did a full work up on her.  Right now both her and Heather are in bed asleep, which I will be joining them very shortly.  I'm a bit tired.  I've also got pictures of the primer on my GP40-2, I know that's not much of an improvement on it, but hey its progress at least.  I've also got pictures of the bike that I have partial ownership of.  I just have to get them onto the computer.

I'll probably do it tomorrow seeing as the water pump on my Impala started leaking on the way back from the hospital, so I've gotta take the day off and get it fixed, afterwards I'll probably get the pictures on here and let all youse guys gander at them.  Well, I guess I'll be off for now, I'll see y'all tomorrow.

Dad taught me how to use the finishing mower on the big tractor today. And then guess who had to mow the 5+ acre field and pond?

Sounds like you had as much fun as I have mowing my parent's 5+ acre yard.

Laugh Yep I did. especially after sliding sideways ten feet on the dam and almost flipping it trying to turn around on the four foot wide flat spot with a five foot foot wide tractor.

Sigh Someday I'll look back and laaaaaaauugh...........

Good morning,

Jeff I did the same thing with my layout: No low brake wheels, if it doesn’t have a cat walk it’s gone, and nothing over 50FT unless it’s a passenger car.  I’m modeling the 1950’s, If I come across a “new” car I’ll let you know.

Good moring.  Its a cool morning, and I believe the low was near 40 degrees.

I was pretty busy yesterday, and didn't get a chance to stop in.  This morning I have to take the car to the shop.  They have a part thats been recalled, and they said it will take about a hour to fix.  Maybe run by Sams Club as well.

I have about 5 cars coming to weather this week, with two getting here today.  One I am keeping for myself "FINALLY".   I have to go into work early tomorrow (3am) to learn how to switch the trailers again.

Todd......I have a BN boxcar coming today, and I will get that posted soon.  Aggro and I exchange emails sometimes, and I told him to keep the outside shots.   I think they help his cars out a lot.

Well everybody have a good morning.

Morning all.  I'm just briefly stopping in for a glass of milk, and then I'll be back out the door.  Amy's at home on bedrest and I've got to get Heather ready for school and then get into the backyard and remove the water pump from the car and go get another.  Apparently it developed a leak last night, so off it will go and on a new one will.

Hello....

Had a full weekend. Shelley and I were the organizers of the church concert on Saturday night. There is a lady who performs with Christian music who is quite tlented. She is from Ohio, and travels around to various states to perform. Shelle made the contact, and we were pleasantly surprised when she agreed to come.

Yesterday we had church in the morning. Everyone is praying for our church friend with cancer who is now in a hospice, and there is nothing the doctors can do to save her. Lots of tears in church yesterday morning.

Yesterday afternoon I went with some friends to a small railroad museum in Princeton, KY. The guy at the museum was a retired railorad guy. There were 4 in our group, and 3 of us a retired railorad guys, too. The other guy is a retired GM, but he is a railfan. We swapped stories all afternoon.

Last night I spent all evening trying to remove a stubborn virus from the desktop Dell. No luck yet in removing it. Makes me mad. It's bad order for now, and I'm on the laptop. Look out for a fake virus program warning you about virusses!

Todd & Ray I am glad to see the WS moonshine scense. I have one, too.  It is in the woods near my bridege over the Mrs. Hippy River. It is a hit with guests.

Jeff  ......... I like your clouds, too. I found it is helpful to make a crde sencil for the tops of the clouds. I tear a piece of newspaper making a random ripped edge. Then I hold it up as I spray. As you do, I use white spray paint. At the horizon, I gently brush in a mix of white and sky blue. I have been gradullly replacing my "store-bought" clouds following a moisture problem a few months ago.

Duke   I was glad to see your bike in person.  I suggest you take a picture from the rear to post a photo so the diners can see your mascot.

Jim CG ..... What? You lost the NMRA guage! ...uh, oh...

Later in the week, I have a common birthday with my sister on the third. I'll see if you remember then. Also, on the fifth, Shelley and I have our anniversary.

All this non-mrr stuff has kept me away from the layout. I'll have to get back to that.

I use stencils made from manilla folders for the entire shape of  the cloud. My backdrop is sky blue so when I spray on the white paint I make the coat heavier at the top than at the bottom. At the bottom the white and blue make subtle shades of gray, most of which are invisible to me (partially colorblind) but others can see them.

Good Morning Diner Crew!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, we tried to make the best of ours still missing Kitty. On Sunday Monique and I made a Pot Roast and I put together a Lemon Meringue Pie too!

Watched Stand By Me, the old movie that was Rob Reiner's first directing venture. Forgot about all the steam train scenes, it was fun to see again.

Cool front today and most of the week has our high temps here in the mid-70's

Anyone with the photography bug would be interested in this site I found today. dpchallenge, or the digital photography challenge is a great place to view and enter photographs for frequent themed contests. They held a Trains & Railroads II Challenge in April 2009 and here is a link to the results:

http://www.dpchallenge.com/challenge_results.php?CHALLENGE_ID=1020  Many great photographs even among the ones that did not win the top three ribbons.

This one is the third place ribbon recipient:

Sorry to see Sir Madog Ulrich go, hope you can make it back again soon.

Happy B-Day Garry, and glad to hear "Little Kitten" is doing well! Garry, that fake virus is a Trojan Horse and it was on Monique's PC about a month ago, took me all day to get rid of it too, it's a tough one. Ad-aware and Norton Internet Security 2009 removed it finally.

Tom, you are so right, we are still missing Kitty and grieving, and with three dogs still we have much animal love to share. We will most likely get another kitten or cat again, but like you said, wait awhile and we will know when the time is right. Your tech rule is a good one for the classroom too, they confiscate any such items from students here, then even wipe out applications on calculators that are not math related.

Jim, thanks again!

Todd, nice still you got there!

Nice guitar Mark!

Bama, hope Amy gets better soon!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, a bowl of hot oatmeal, brown sugar, and a cup of dark raost in a FGLK mug if you please.  Bring it over to the Rivet Counter......

A lovely pre-fall day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 63°F outside going for a high of 67° later this afternoon.  As you might expect, the air conditioers are not turned on. Whistling  My kind of day!

Phillip, you just need to wear a bit more padding under the leather jacket when it is "nice" out.

Garry, my FIL who passed away last summer was born on Sept. 3rd.  and my own Father was born on Sept. 5.  Of course they were both born in 1913..........  Way cool!  An early Happy Birthday!

Mark, I meant to mention yesterday....  Nice Axe!

Ryan been thinking about your loss of Kittie and wondering how you folks are doing...  I still think about old Sheila now and then even after a year.  Sometime I think I hear something and expect to see her crawling between the desk and the computer to come sit next to me as she used to do.  Takes time......

I think today would be a great day to get started on the wineter woodpile.  Should be able to split and stack most of what I have sitting in the driveway in a couple of days.  Then I can decide how and where I will get the rest of the needed stockpile for this winter's heating season.

Hope everyone has a fine day!

Afternoon alll. Chloe, I'll take a bacon cheeseburger and a RBF, thanks.

It definately feels great to be home. And, of course, to have a layout again...
I kinda can't wait for school Wednesday. I haven't seen anyone in forever...

Well, for the first time in the three months since I bought it, 1300 has run under its own power! I swapped the frames on 1300 (patched ex-NJT SW1500) and the BN unit, which is now the dummy. The BN unit will be "rebuilt" as a Genset, and then will once again be swapped with 1300. 1300 will go on display (as NJT 500), and 1300 (which will become 1100), will work as a switcher. Here's the 1300 on a caboose hop (note the exposed wires below the yellow caboose and the gaping hole, this is the beginning of the destruction of the current Watchinson Line; a new, larger Watchinson Line layout will be built in its place):

The SW1500 is an Athearn Blue Box model that was custom painted (not by myself, I bought it as-is).

I'll be in the back corner finishing my summer reading (ugh).

Coffee in a large UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

***Mark, congrats on the purchase.

***Bama, home your wife is feeling better soon.

***Ray, neat little lantern there. That entire scene looks great.

After her 12 hour night shift, my wife had to take her mother to the ER, which also means taking her Father along, as he can't be left by himself. Don't know how my wife manages these episodes. It is taking a toll on her, no doubt about it

Oh, in the Walthers catalog my wife marked in yellow ink some items she wanted. Can anyone here tell me if the Busch Plowed Field (page 71) and the Cucumber & Tomato Plants (page69) come pre-built and painted? I can probably make a reasonable plowed filed for her. Will stilly have to buy the tomato plants and other items she marked. (I need to hide that yellow pen, but she keeps it in her purseLaugh)

Sun is attempting to bust through the cloud cover here. So far unsuccessfully.

Thanks Rob and all the others who have said they enjoyed the scene.

Rob certainly one of the few things in life harder than taking care of your own kids is having to take care of your parents......  (Been there, done that)  Hope that your MIL is back home and doing well.

I split and stacked 5 wheelbarrow loads so far today.  I'll get a few more done later.  Taking a needed break for a few minutes.  Also, I have been writing checks to out MLK Scolarship winners the last few days.  Today one of the "Moms" who works at the local school main office stopped by to give me her youngest kid's course schedule so I could give a check to give to him.  She was one of my students back when I was first teaching here in Geneva.  Sang in both the general chorus and the select group as well.  All her children have graduated or are going to college, and all were MLK Scholarship winners.  Makes me feel a bit old......  Needless to say we had a nice chat!

Flo a RBF would do well right now.  I'll sit in the front booth and watch the trackw**k outside......

Garry- I had a virus a while back this year that I couldn't get rid of with anything I had and other "guru's" couldn't either. I contacted microsoft and they told me to download Super anti spyware it's free and they claimed it was the best, (at least at that time) It worked like a charm and removed the problem when Ad aware, spybot and another that I forgot couldn't. Give it a try won't cost you nothing. It's all I use and it also has a live feature that helps to keep from getting one in teh first place. The free version does not have an auto update or scheduling but hey, for free I'm just glad it works. Good luck

Good luck

Super-Anti Spyware and Ad Aware are in the Top 3 in my book. they are AWESOME at detecting and removing Trojan attacks, swarms, and backdoors. They even took care of a "Burst" Trojan. (A burst Trojan is one that gathers and releases at one time tens of other trojans. Really nasty)

I've had the same problems myself. I used AVG and haven't had and problems since. It's free and can be easily downloaded.

Evening all.  *comes in with a tray of Gorditas and a gallon of Cookies N Cream Ice Cream*  I brought left-overs from tonight's dinner.  Y'all eat it up!  Well, the water pump on the car is finished, then I got ahold of the bike and went and rode for about an hour and a half.  Probably rode about 50, 60 miles, really got a good chance to enjoy myself without any strings attached.

Amy's doing better, she's still on bed rest one more day, but she's feeling a little better.  I guess I'll be heading off for the moment, Iv'e got to go and throw Heahter into the tub for her nightly bath, then get set up and ready for the night to wind down.
