For those who've held my son in their prayers, thank you!  The docs came back today and said they feel that his scoliosis is quite acute and should not progress.  He will need some physical therepy, but no braces and no surgery!  We're all quite relieved!

Oh, and Robby........YOU DA MAN!  That weathering is truely artwork!

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a cup of hot cocoa, please. Just stopping briefly for a bit before I head back home. Got to get to bed a little earlier (so I can get up and going earlier in the a.m.); I'm a bit behind on progress notes and paperw**k at w**k.

Todd - sorry to hear about Franklin, but glad that his misery is done.

SilverSpike
...Popeye's was started by Al Copeland of New Orleans in the 1970's... Diversified Foods still has the rights to sell the spices, sauces, red beans and rice to Popeye's. Here we have Bojangles Fried Chicken, which I have to say is actually better than Popeye's now.

Actually, Ryan (and Todd) there's a Popeye's right next door to the Panera Bread Co. (where my usual WiFi connection is). It's not very far from the interstate (I-55) here in Cape, so I'm sure they do enough business.

It's been pretty nice at w**k this week, as our supervisor has been out on vacation, and the rest of admin. types haven't been over to our end of the building (the "w**king end") much at all, and we haven't had a lot of crisis/walk-in people the past couple of days.

Jeff, Ryan beat me to the punch, I liked your photo of the G&D boxcar this morning, also! Thumbs Up

Robby - thanks for the mini-tutorial (and great w**k on the boxcar, as is the usual when you do one)! And do you mean you haven't told your wife about your 'secret life' in the basement? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Barry - I'm sure you will have earned that vacation once you get to go take that time off. Yeah!! Now, so long as you get some decent weather by that time...Oops

Went by Penney's to get another pair of Dockers (have had one pair that's in need of retiring, and another that may not be far behind), but they didn't have any of the color I like, in my inseam (34") and my waist size. Had my waist size, but too short, had my inseam, but not in my waist size. Banged Head I don't know why I keep going in there - I've emailed JCP about their not carrying my size and also talked with sales clerks, but all I get is "We can order them from our catalog for you"... If I wanted to order them, I'd go to Land's End or JC Crew! Banged Head Sheesh...

Need to decide where I'm going to have my uncoupler magnets located on the back of the current layout, so I can pull the track and bury them there. Need to do that first, before I do my wiring.

I'll see everyone tomorrow morning (I expect; my 8:00 client tends to miss appointments). Prayers continue for those needing comfort and/or healing of body, mind or soul.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Evenin' folks!

Hey Ryan!  I just went and checked out that Jalapeno Poppers recipe.  Gotta try that one of these days.  While I was at your site I visited your "store" and not only decided to place an order, but was drooling over that beer chicken stuff.  Can you direct me to the recipe for that?  Looks like a winner for when I have the family over for a BBQ during August.

Flo I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a seat at the Rivet Counter.

I ended up starting to pack for camp and doing a bunch of odds and ends this afternoon.  Still have at least 4 days of w**k to do before I leave for camp Sunday morning.  A few days ago my old gas powered weed trimmer died.  So, I decided to buy a battery powered one since my property is small (1/4 acre of yard).  I wasn't sure I would like it, but it is a bit smaller, lighter, and much easier to handle than the old one.  It also can get into places that the old one couldn't.  Turns out it was a good choice, and is one less reason to have to drive over to the gas station.  Got some big overgrown weeds taken down with it today as well.

Not much on the Model Railroad front today.  Just got the room picked up a bit and ran the shop vac to get rid of the dirt down there.  then brought the shop vac upstairs to use tomorrow on the floors.

Rob, hows the ear coming along.  You haven't mentioned it since you started the meds.  Hope that is a good sign.

Catch you all later.

Well guys, I got the numbers done on all my locos but my C-Liner and H-15-44. The C-Liner I'm not sure what I'm gonna do, and I need to glue the body handrails onto the H-15-44. All my locos have 2-digit numbers except the alcos, and I'm thinking about changing SCRail's company theme; from operating a bunch of main lines in SC to operating the former CPDR (freelanced) and also a bunch of abandoned branches etc. throughout SC. This will give me the excuse for the two-digit numbers and blue/black basic paint job.

Chris........I'm glad I'm helping you, and others out.

The funny things is.   My wife messaged me (text message) "what are you doing" around 9:00am this morning.  I said, "working on a train car".  She messaged me agian later toady, oh about 2:00pm.  "What are you doing?"  I said, "a train car".  "Still????", she said.  I said "Yeah, its for the guys on the train website".   I guess she doesn't know my second home is the basement.  Mischief

Good afternoon, Chloe? yep...the usual...yep, over at the RC...please 'n thankyou.

TODD: Very Sorry to hear about your furry pal. Please know Rerun and I are keeping you and him in our thoughts.

RYAN: Thanks! You may well have shed some light into Fred's secret!! He's around the Slidel/NOLA area...makes sense he'd go with the "local flavor." I know he puts spices (top secret) into the meat. Whatever he does, I'm sure he could turn a buck selling them. As for Popeye's Chicken, my in-laws were blown to Cedar Rapids by Katrina. Apparently, they've undergone withdrawal symptoms so bad, a few months ago they (and the wife) made the 50 mile trek to Waterloo...which has a Popeye's. Loving Wife managed to snag a few pieces for me...even cold, it was incredible! Thumbs Up I think I'm going to have to see if the Quad Cities have any.Dinner

ROBBY P: Two words come to mind looking at the latest RailBox: "museum quality." I continue to be in awe. Thanks also for the ongoing tutorial, a bunch of us are appreciating it more than you know.

This morning I journeyed over to Solon to meet a man about Purple Martin birds. I got a tour of a bird condo, met a little feathered tennant who hasn't learned to fly just yet...neat little kid. Bird Man took me around town to point out other Purple Martin complexes, and introduced me to another Bird Man. I'm not quite sure what THAT editor is looking for...these special bird houses aren't anything new... some have been in place for 15 years.Confused Will get clarification tomorrow at the weekly staff meeting. I also got "marching orders" from da Boss. He wants me to go to Des Moines Monday morning. The Solon High School baseball team obliterated their opponent 17-0 last night, earning a trip to the State Tournament. Lucky me...I get to cover day one. IF they win, they play again on Thursday...and Mr. Boss will go. IF they lose...one and done. I also have to spend a day at the Johnson County Fair sometime next week, was gonna do Monday...but haven't figured out how to be in two places at the same time yet. Mr. Boss "goofed" (his own admission) in getting press credentials, so not sure how I'm gonna get in Monday. I might be sneaking over a fence or tunneling in or something.

I'll have a seat here at the Rivit Counter while pondering what to do about THAT Purple Martin stuff...

Well here's the next step.  I've been working on this car all day, and now I'm at a stopping point.  I guess you can tell I'm not your "quick airbrush weathering guy".

Ok......................Today I added some rust pits, gashes, and streaks.  First place I started was the "weld line" near the bottom of the car.  I used a 3/0 paint brush.  The rust color was a mix of "Raw Sienna, orange powder, and a drop of mineral spirits".   Next was the rust pits.  I used the same brush for this as well.  I would lightly dab the brush for the pit.  NOW....On the gashes "due to the door", I used a 10/0 brush.  Its thinner.  I would lightly pull the brush to the side to make a gash.  *Now this isn't a prototype car, its more a fantansy car*.   The ends were done the same way.  Just lighty dabbed for the pits.

Then.......I went back with a darker oil/powder mix.   "Raw Umber and a dark color rust".   That gave the rust some depth.  I just used the 3/0 brush for this step.  Kinda went over ever rust/gash/pit with the dark mix.  After that was dry I went back over the rust/gash/pits with severalpowders for more depth.  Dark brown, dirt color, and black was used.

*After each step I would dullcote.  Give it that protection, and gets it to dry quicker*.  Tomorrow will be the roof, trucks, wheels, couplers, etc.

NOTE:  I leave old trucks on the car so the car will sit on them, rather than the foot steps.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have some Jalapeno Poppers for lunch today, and a biggie RBF too! Dinner

Jim, the wedding party took it all in stride and were happy to see him walk off the alter. Good luck with the bills.

Chris, the only insight I can give you about Fred and his burgers is that many folks in the NOLA area will add some Worchestershire sauce to the ground meat with some chopped onions and some spices too before grilling them, but everyone has their own concoction and personal flavor.

Robby, I don't like temp jobs either, you are better off anyway with not getting that one. And thanks for the short tutorial on your weathering technique, really nice to get that special in the Diner. Thumbs Up

Garry, glad you like the Po-Boy, and yes, the discussions lf late have been a bit beefy!

And hey Garry, cool link to the AAR site. Thanks!

Nik.n, Blazing Saddles is a classic!  Love those lines too, and they have a few railroad scenes too in that movie.

Bama, nice pics you got there, and the trains are cool too!

Charlie, yup, been there and done that too many times to remember!

Dick, wow, you got your hands full in the retirement there. Congrats on the 182 and the BP!  I took a few days off work last week doing "The List" and found out I need much more time to get it all done!

Jeff, like the G&D boxcar! Thumbs Up

Todd, you know Popeye's was started by Al Copeland of New Orleans in the 1970's. At the time it was the best fried chicken in town. He bought out Church's in the 1980's and then went bankrupt,  sold all the assets to some company out of Atlanta. Diversified Foods still has the rights to sell the spices, sauces, red beans and rice to Popeye's. Here we have Bojangles Fried Chicken, which I have to say is actually better than Popeye's now.

Missed your post about Franklin, sorry to hear about that, pets are a large part of our family too! Thoughts and prayers.

Afternoon everyone!

Had to leave early this morning to visit the New York Museum of Transportation and check out the Spaghetti Warehouse Trolley over there.  As I thought it is inside the museum and is outfitted out as a dining facility.  Has room for 48 people in it and the area next to it is such that I can set up a table ot two for registration and display for the local NMRA Summer Picnic.

oh let's try Vermont maple syrup. (zzzziiiing, clang, clang, clang) WHOA! That was close. OK make it NYS maple syrup. Mornin' Ray.

No problem from me on that.  Some of the stuff labeled Vermont actually came from trees across the border in NY anyway.  It's exactly the same great stuff!  In fact I like the Canadian Maple Syrup as well. Smile,Wink, & Grin

BTW, Todd, I somehow missed the post about Franklin.  Very sorry, it is always hard to lose a loving pet.  St. Bernards are such faithful, wonderful dogs!  It is coming up on the one year anniversary of losing my Mom's little kitty, Sheila, who was a 21 year old cat.  I inherited her when my Mom died so she spent her last 3 years with me.  I cried too.  Oddly enough I still miss the old girl.  All 7 lbs of her.......... This is the last photo I got of her.  She was down to 5 lbs. at the time.

Flo, I'll have a RBF and go and sit at the Rivet Counter for a spell...

Thnaks inch! I drew the plan out on my 4x8, and it should hopefully work. next is paper, then RTS, then hopefully foam, then tracklaying.

Well, my decals were in eysterday, but the box my paint was in was broke or soemthing, so that should hopefully be here by Friday. In the meantime, I've decaled my caboose, and applied one coat of weathering., However, before I weather it further, I want to apply decals to my locos, so I'll have enough sealer.

SPeaking of taking time to watch....

Good morning. Let's see, how about pancakes and sausage with some, oh let's try Vermont maple syrup. (zzzziiiing, clang, clang, clang) WHOA! That was close. OK make it NYS maple syrup. Mornin' Ray.

Say what's up with Barry? I saw him leaving this morning and when he waved, it looked like he was getting webbed fingers.

Not much RRing gonna happen today, seems that's becoming an all too familiar phrase of late. I must go to see Mom today and take a good portion of her "acquirements" home from the nursing home because she goes home tomorrow. If it's early enough I will take her home if it's too late then Brenda will get her. Folks let me tell you this, my Mother has been in and out of nursing homes lately but only for therapy. Seeing her in a nursing home just.... Well I see all these people that are there and..... Well, I dread the day that it may come. I hope not.

Anyway while I'm out there, I do believe I will lunch at Popeye's, I love Popeye's but there is no restaurant on the north side of Springfield. (Two on the South.) So when I see Mom, along with a trip to Castle Trains I get my Popeye's. Unfortunately, I don't require anything and with hardly any tip money, the FLHS trip may not happen. Then it's the annual board meeting for the Elevator and I will be dining there this evening. In the mean time I will continue scratching and hugging Missy (our dog).

By the way, for those of you who gave prayers for Franklin the St Bernard, I thank you and his life partner thanks you. Franklin had to be put to sleep last week. It was a sad day. But we believe the prayers helped as Franklin began to become lively and was doing real well until the day he left us. It was like a switch was thrown that morning. He suffered very little the vet was able to take Franklins pain within hours of the call. Yes I was able to say goodbye. I cried. Stupid dogs.

Dick- I really like the Branchline kits. In fact I have several to do yet. They make me feel like I've put a model together instead of like the Accurail ones where the kit is a body, frame, trucks, and a brake wheel. I like them too, I've put several of them together, but , well, you know.

Jeff- I knew this guy that had a bunch of movies. I mean A BUNCH. But he is small potatoes compared to you. Sounds like Robby and I have about the same amount. Unless you count the Disney things Brenda collected for the kids and now the grand kids. THAT was a waste of money as much as they watched them.

Best get a move on.

Have a Great Day!

Good morning folks.
This diner certainly is a busy place. I have trouble finding the time to keep up.

I'm managing to find a little time every night to work on the layout. It's mainly do to the fact that I'm working on a few kits right now. While I'm waiting for glue to dry on one, I paint another outside. Then I have to stop and wait until the next day. It's just enough to move the projects along a little each day without rushing anything. I use to have a tendency to not wait until the paint or glue is dry. Use to, what am I saying? I still tend to not wait long enough!Big Smile

I have my long day at work today. I probably won't work on the layout tonight. It may be movie night instead.

I hope you all have a great day!

 Good Morning, Guys,

lunchtime is over - Flo, that apple pie sure looks delicious, and a decaf in my ARR mug, please.

Rain, rain, rain ... Thumbs Down

Managed to do some work in the garden, early this morning, i.e. cut down our hedge. This is not the type of w**k I like, but as the house is up for sale on the market, everything has to look proper and well maintained. Real estate market is just like in the US - depressed is already an exaggerated statement.

No railroading activity scheduled today, other than staying here in wait for the pals to show up... Big Smile

I will get some more pictures up on the Railbox later.  That will give me some time to "rust" it up.   I'm glad its helping a few people.

Todd........I will get some more shots up today, and info on what I did.

Jeff.......500-600 pounds Shock.  I own maybe ten movies total.

Lee.....I'm glad you post your weather.  Kinda lets me know what might be coming my way.

I guess I will go to the basement.  Got some cars to "knock out".

 Good morning.

It's 75 and partly cloudy. The high will be around the mid 90's and there's a chance of thunderstorms.

I took the time to go through the many VHS tapes I have and threw out about 500-600 pounds of them along with a bunch of old CD-R's and DVD-R's I no longer need. This has freed up several shelves for my rapidly growing collection of DVD's, and with DVD movies now cheaper than ever (two for five dollars in some cases) it's going to grow rapidly indeed. Today I'll roust my mother from bed and prepare her breakfast as usual but she'll either have to have an early lunch or make other arrangements as I have an appointment with the foot doc today. I had a treat yesterday. TCM was showing a bunch of the old 'Saint' movies from the 30's and early 40's. These were made long before the Saint you younger guys saw wrap up all his foes in one evening on the big screen and has more to do with Roger Moore's 1960's portrayal of the adventurer and unlikely hero that was Simon Templar. No, these were made before the effects people robbed the audience of their imagination. I made sure to record them.

Double RBF and one of Mikes burgers please. If you have a slice of garden fresh tomato and a slice of good sweet onion that'd be great. Not that sweet Illinioz onion no, a Vidalia onion from Georgia. Those Illinoiz sweets aren't. Oh, no thank you I‘ve had my pork chop in a bottle for the night. Slow night at work again tonight not many people came in. One customer said it was that way all over. So not much in tips Sigh(Wednesdays I wait tables)

Robby- Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!! I'm cutting and pasting the posts. So far it's clearer than any book I've read. Admittedly that has been few. I have a Railbox car so we shall see what happens.

I'm steering clear of the Oscar Myer weiner mobile because if I get started you all will throw me out.

Well I'VE never hit the wrong button and lost a post. I guess it's just that I'm such an expert on computers that those kind of things don't happen to me. Let me tell you abou

Good evening gents, another late night. I worked on the Branchline boxcar kit again tonight, those are one highly detailed kits let me tell you. Installing brake lines, brake rods, all sorts of small add on parts so tiny that I need a magnifier helmet!! NO SPRUE 12 today again from ME. Good Lord, how many days does it take the snail mail to come from Missouri???

TMarsh
Grayfox- I sure hope the guys that sent your sprue 12 aren't the same ones who sent Jerry his locos. No telling what you'll get. Maybe 2 sprue 6's.

TODD: I'm beginning to wonder too Todd !!!

RYAN: I wish I had time to do a PPT presentation for you guys, I am out straight these days between working at the highway dept ( over 65 retiree 93.5 hour program in our town for RE tax deduction) , two large Veggie gardens, taking care of 3 acres of grass and flowers, reading all my RR books and mags, working on MRR, a little computer time to read email and forum, the list goes ON and ON. The good thing? I am down to 182 lbs and BP has dropped from 155 to 117/68 ( NO PILLS or other crap , just right eating, and plenty of exercise ( working physically not silly crap like tread mills )

J.R. : How have you been down there in CT? Is the house all rebuilt?

C.N.CHARLIE: I have hit keys erroneously in my rush to get the forum email out and did the very same thing. I got so p***** that I went to bed.

JIM: Yes, I think your correct, SNOAH has found a lady.

Time for bed , see you guys later, J.R. don't forget to lock up.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! No need to be sorry, I was just funnin' ya!

I'm GLAD! Have a RBF on me anyways...

That's the downside of web-based "chats," ya just can't see who you're talkin' to, to gauge their mood, reaction, etc. I was gonna say, we've got a pastor on our Fire Dept. While I don't like to think about what could happen there...it's kinda nice having him around to "put in the fix" as it were...

Heck, I just said it anyways...

Long day, with little if anything accomplished. Up early (way early) to be in Solon to see a man about some birds. THAT editor wants me to do a story on a bunch of Purple Martins bird houses...and the local "bird guy" is gonna give me a guided tour of a bird condo complex. I might even get to "meet" some of the tennants, or at least, their kids.

A good, SAFE night to all, and a better tomorrow than today was,

ChrisEight Ball

***EDIT***

OK Gents, top of the page, so late night suppers, very early breakfasts, midnight snacks, etc. are all on 'Ol Lucky here. Ladies? Yep...put it all on the expense account with THAT editor. What's that? You need an assignment to bill it to now? OK...put it under "The Purple Martin Gang."

Evenining, thought I'd drop in for a barley pop afore bed.

Had an interesting time while I was out grillin burgers. I thought I heard a roaster crowin, so I followed the noise and sure enough it was a roaster. Have no idea where it came from, no close to us has chickens that I know of. Maybe he was following the wild turkeys that were in the yard earlier.

SAWYER forgot this earlier, but congrads on the layout space. What plans I've seen should make you a nice one.

JIM,,,, it seems there's always a passel of youngins here even if their not always ours. And Yazee's a granddaddy's girl already, just like her mamma. I gave Yazee her first mowy ride on my lap yesterday, along with 5 other kids in the trailer. The only time Yazee got fussy is when I stop.

CHRIS,, your wife would be jealous of me and the kids too. I was helping out at a gas station a friend owned back in the 80's, when the wiener mobile stopped for gas and I did the pumping and washed the windshield. They gave 3 of my kids a ride round the block.

ROBBY,, thanks for starting the step by step. To bad bout the job.

BAMA,,, We have a niece and a great niece both named Mikayla and a grand daughter Elizabeth , that named after my great aunt and another grand daughter named Lizibeth. Also our DIL's name is Heather. Who is by the way expecting our 24 grandkid in March. Hope your job hunt starts goin betters and Engine 401 in the 2'nd pic has been up this way a time or two.

Bout time for beddy bye, catch ya'll laters
