Barry, The photos were taken at Steamtown, NHS, in Scranton, PA. If you go to the photobucket page, you can see pictures of red and grey or white and grey locomorives of the Delaware & Lackawanna RR, who has fleet of mostly Alcos. Thier only EMD (That I know of) is currently on display at Steamtown. It is that SC shown, and it runs!
I can use some of Ulrich's rain here for sure. The pic is of the lake behind my parent's house. The stumps are normally underwater. The white pipes are about 5 feet long and would stick up out of the water about 2 feet to indicate a boat channel.

Manét has been in his, "Daddy, you going to leave?" mode ever since I started to pack. This means I have to do a lot of cuddling with him and listen to a sad meow all the time........

Good Morning All,
The rains let up here in Lockeport but it's still cloudy. Check engine light on the Excursion went on though I see nothing obvious so it's off to the local garage to see if we can hook it to the OBDII machine and make sure it's just a glitch. This happens occasionally when it rains for a while and the sensors get soaked. A couple of days of sunshine should fix it but no sun is forcast for now. At 150k the old beast still runs strong (7.3ltr diesel) but the switching and other electric stuff is getting crotchety.
No MRR stuff here - the nearest hobby shops are in Halifax and Dartmouth and they seem to have torn up all the track south of Halifax as well. The rest of VIA Rail is on strike anyway and shut down (no engineers contract since 2006 and it's all govt owned anyway).

We had some more monsoons charge through here overnight. We're expecting some showers--heavy at times--and those t'underin'boomers to come through today. We're at a sticky 21C with the humidity at 95% right now.
Our lake grows and grows just like Ulrich's is right now--that is why I've got a floating dock in it now---might as well use the lake for the R/C boats----

The lights on the locomotive are for its precedence on the time table. White is “EXTRA” and has to give way to all other traffic. In the steam days this was often a flag mounted on the front of the locomotive and caboose so the tower and station persons could identify trains as they went past by what color flag or marker lights the exhibited. The old short line here in town still uses these in train movements.
Jim, yea they came with 2 paddles each. The Summit county Red Cross is cutting back on some of its programs and decided to eliminate the water safety course, the canoes and kayaks were sold at $300 to $250 each. I don’t have any trips in mind yet, but there are a few canoe trails I would like to do as well as the old canal system.
Rob, I have a friend in the AC&R business; he said: change the air filter and let the unit rest for 2 hours to allow the refrigerant to collect in the outside unit then start it back up. He also reminded me he doesn’t like Trane products because they have computer cards in the units that can overheat or go bad.

Good morning.It's 73 and clear. The high will be around 96 and it will be partly cloudy.I didn't have much time online yesterday as Suddenlink has a still unresolved problem that's crippled internet service to customers along a stretch of 10+ miles of cable. Right now my download speed is OK but my upload speed is in the 40's. It should be no lower that 256. For much of yesterday there was no signal at all. I'm hoping the problem gets resolved today but I'm not holding my breath while I wait. My father should be off work today so he'll be able to watch my mother, giving me a well deserved break. I have to go to town later to pick up a few things but other than that it should be a nice slow day with nothing to do but relax. Hasn´t stopped raining since yesterday. We have a little pond in our yard, which is flowing over now. I will have to get out in the rain and put a pump there. It will remain a wet weekend, so I will do a some armchair model rairoading, i.e. imagineering and researching. I need to get all prepared for that day x, when I can start on my new layout. Going back and forth on my test track isn´ t really fulfilling...
I received an intersting while promising phone call yesterday evening. That US-/Dutch river cruise company is very much interested in chartering the ships I have planned. Mid of August will be a meeting with the big boss, who is coming over to Arnhem (remember - "A Bridge too far"?). Should both of my dreams become real? Will I be ?

Good evening gents, more rain here today, 2.59 inches bringing our total to over 3.4" and more on our doorsteps as another wave of TS's approach from the Pioneer Valley.
Well, I had to call ME ( MicroEngineering ), no Sprue #12's arrived in the snail mail today, they are rushing out the Sprues today so the bridge is still out on the layout, the trackmen have gone home for the weekend.
TODD: The Branchline kits are indeed very detailed and certainly not anything like an Accurail kit that I can put together in 30 minutes or less. I decided to replace the couplers and gear boxes though. I used Kadee #232 gear boxes which allow me to use 2-56 screws to mount the boxes. All one needs to do is drill (#50) the hole in the underbody, tap the hole with 2-56 tap, and that is it. I am also using Kadee # 158 couplers on some cars and #148 on others. The #148's are not as prototypical in size appearance for HO but they are more forgiving. The #158's look very much to true scale.
RYAN: The "to do" list, aka HD or Honey Do list NEVER sees the bottom, and there is NEVER enough time to get them completed, take it from someone married 49+ years.
ULRICH: You too? The rain that is. We have had so much rain that even the frogs have moved away! lol. Our gardens are all mud, we send the grandkids into the garden to do any picking, they love the mud and barefeet and don't sink like us adults.

Well... a very busy night around these parts: 1) The community of Edgewood was torn up big-time by high wind. 2) a Linn County Sheriff's Deputy apparently suffered a medical event, and rolled his squad car just north of Cedar Rapids. Airlifted ahead of the storm...word is he had a negative outcome. 3) High wind took out power poles/trees in Stanwood, five miles west of us. 4) Lowden (five miles or so east of us) and Wheatland also without power. 5) Working housefire in Linn County somewhere in the Robins, Alburnett, Hiawatha area.
I think we lucked out here...only about 40-50 mph winds, and blinding heavy rain. Sat at the fire station for about 2 hours on storm watch duty. Once the front rolled in, it got very comfortable temperature-wise. Then, the rain started blowing in, we had to drop the doors...and it got HOT in a jiffy...
For some reason...morbid curiosity perhaps, I went back over to the now infamous weathering war zone. Incredible. ULRICH and JEFF: your RBOX cars look fine to me. I agree with JEFF, I try to learn what I can from ROBBY P and that AggroJones guy. At the same time, if my stuff doesn't come out "museum quality," I can probably live with it. I'm not out to impress anybody, and I'm not out trying to make a buck off my stuff...but I'll take any "attaboys" you guys care to toss my way! Heck, sometimes Robby P's weathering is a bit "heavy" for my tastes...but then, he's modeling "today." I could have the same car on my shelf...but I'd need a lighter touch to match "20 years ago." Different approaches for different eras. I can still LEARN from his methods though...and again offer a public THANK YOU! to him for being gracious enough to share his knowledge with us.
I asked a custom locomotive builder what parts he uses for some CNW specific models. He quickly and graciously told me. Since he's in the business of selling these things, I wasn't sure he would. He ran the risk of helping a competitor (no, not me...not by a long-shot. I'm just sayin' hypothetical here). He said something along the lines of...a modeler who has the knowledge and ability, but won't help others is...a "tool."
Enough on THAT...
JIM: Yeah, I'm a big Far Side fan. I've also felt for a long time, that real life is far more bizzare than anything ever found in a work of fiction. Good luck managing the multiple personalities thing... I've tried to be in two places at once, never figured it out. Hope you have a) better luck than me, or b) no need to try to. Hope I didn't just jinx ya... Also, I remember the "it ain't prototype (but it is)" articles. I wouldn't recommend a whole fleet of cars done up like the OTTX flat...but seeing one roll by once in awhile would certainally catch the eye, I would think. I've always wondered if the shop guy was just being a smart a**, making some kind of statement...or honestly had a stencil deficit. I've got a shot of a UP hopper, waiting to see if ROBBY P wants first dibs on it...that about gives me a headache to look at. Maybe we'll just call THAT "coming attractions."
SAWYER: I'm also looking forward to your pics, always good to see someone making progress.

The past few days I've been "batching it" because Shelley has been with our daughter near Detroit, Michigan. Shelley was to return home this weekend.
Bad news. Instead, I am leaving for MI. Shelley just had a significant back injury, and is being examined and treated in MI. It is in the spine and not just muscle. Hopefully, we can travel back home in a few days, and she can continue whatever is needed close to here. Now, that's about all I know.
I may check here before I go. If not keep things under control in the diner while I'm out.

Todd, so sorry to hear about Franklin. We were really worried about our little Pippa, who's nearly 15, as she was scheduled for surgery on an anal gland as the vet thought the lump might be cancer. He put her on anti-biotics for a week and when we took her in for the surgery on Monday, he called to say the lump was greatly reduced and was likely an infection. Not often we've had good news from the vet. Sure made my day. After all Pippa is a real 'daddy's girl' .
Weather here has been much like Barry's but maybe not quite as wet. Really unsettled and not very warm. We had a severe thunderstorm watch last night but nothing much happened. Sure has been a strange summer.
Not much new on the RR front. I have been running some trains though even if it just for 20 minutes a night. I've changed over the layout to CP for a while and am running my RS3. I sure like the look of them and the sound is good too especially that weird Alco warble.
Have to go now as it is time for East Enders and I can't miss it.

Oh, Ulrich - if you're gonna go out into the 'Wild West' of the main forums (fora?) (like domr of the "Show Us Your Weathered Cars"), be advised that one had best develop a thick skin fairly quickly; and anyone who has plenty on their plate is not advised to go there. Might only serve to up one's blood pressure and do other nasties to a person. You can get plenty of tips (and friendly company) in the Diner, without those other side effects. (my semi-prof. thoughts on that) Oh, if that's your 'cottage', nice place! But that is a lot of rain in a short time period...
Phillip, good to hear the (good) news on your son and his treatment. Oh, and [ditto] the other part of what Todd wrote - you would fit right in with Chris and myself....

Building a protolanced industrial park layout
I hear it on the territory marking. I pay attention to the masters of the hobby that I know but I dismiss the self-appointed experts and take their advice with a couple of pounds of salt. I think by now they've learned that I don't listen to them anyway.
Robby is one of the masters I listen to, also Agro Jones and some others who take the time to gently coach others in how to do something. Those who spend their time attacking others for simple mistakes and easily correctable errors, well, to put it simply, if you expect all others to get to your elevated skill level overnight, forget it. It's not gonna happen. We learn by doing. If you want others to attain your skill level then take the time to teach them. Do that and you MIGHT earn my respect. Keep attacking and all you'll get is my utter contempt.

Yep, that was me Ryan. I am looking forward to giving it a try. BTW, I am known as the resident "chef" in my family. I am also known in Scouts as the guy who makes stuff like Beef Stroganoff, Pheasant under Glass (well actually game hens in a Dutch Oven), and a Beef Stew and Dumplings followed by Peach Cobbler (the old Boy Scout Recipe not that new woosey type stuff...) and a host of other things as well over the open wood fire (I love Dutch Oven Cooking!). I have done the Thanksgiving Turkey complete with all the trimmings (including some of my Grandmothers "secret" family recipes) in my Family for over 30 years. Since I will be at Boy Scout SciTek camp all next week, I won't get a chance to try out the spices untill the week after that.
Well, I best get back to cleaning and packing (have a wash in the washer and 2 more to do tonight). Catch you all later!
I've got a tornado watch going until 2300...perfect day for growing corn (hot and HUMID) = open invitation for twisters to go play in the trailer parks... Sunny here, but I've got thunderheads to the east and northwest (that I can see from my office). Then again, the National Weather Speculators said today there has only been a lucky 13 twisters in Iowa so far this year...way down from the 100-something of last year.
Wow. Maybe I shouldn'tve mentioned the weathering thread...looks like I raised Todd's blood pressure a bit! I've got a number of crude comments to make about some of the "charecters" over there...but this is a family-orient diner, so I won't. I do wonder if some of those "gentlemen" don't spend time with measuring sticks though...

Back in my local stagehand days, I w**ked a "Seseme Street Live" show. Upon entering backstage for the load-out, I see Big Bird. He's hanging by a rope around his neck, his Big Bird feet swinging in the backstage breeze! Looked like a suicide... I could just see some kid sneaking backstage and *GASP!* "Mommy! Big Bird hung himself like Uncle Chester did in the barn!" Bad scene.
OK, I'm done ramblin' now...will mosey, or is it saunter, I get those mixed up...so I'll self-ambulate over to the RC for a dinner time burger basket.

Busy day for me today at work, go figure for a Friday too!
So I made an attempt to get something done in the train room last night, been April since I did anything, the calender needed to be flipped few months. So I turn on the lights and one of the fixtures is not working, spent about 10 minutes troubleshooting and find out that one of the florescent bulbs is bad. Less than a year old, and mayby only burned 20 hours at the most and it's burned out already, lucky for me I had a spare tube.
Next I decided to tackle the project on my grandfathers old pulpwood car that I started renovating in April and try to put on a decal that I printed out way back when....turned out it's too big and printed on the white decal paper...oops! again.....
Okay...let's try to add a coat of paint to the loco terminal structure. So I thin out some tuscan paint and applied a thin wash to the brick walls, seems like this worked out good. A few streaks here, but some weathering should handle that...fingers crossed.
But, like I always say...a bad day in the train room is better than a great day at work!
And I forgot to mention that meals were on me yesterday.......... But, looks like Ulrich and Ray got my back today!
Chris, you are right about that, Popeye's cold for breakfast is good too! Purple Martins are fun too!

Still have at least 4 days of w**k to do before I leave for camp Sunday morning. A few days ago my old gas powered weed trimmer died. So, I decided to buy a battery powered one since my property is small (1/4 acre of yard). I wasn't sure I would like it, but it is a bit smaller, lighter, and much easier to handle than the old one. It also can get into places that the old one couldn't. Turns out it was a good choice, and is one less reason to have to drive over to the gas station. Got some big overgrown weeds taken down with it today as well.

Hey Ryan! I just went and checked out that Jalapeno Poppers recipe. Gotta try that one of these days. While I was at your site I visited your "store" and not only decided to place an order, but was drooling over that beer chicken stuff. Can you direct me to the recipe for that? Looks like a winner for when I have the family over for a BBQ during August.

And I've always wondered about the electric lawn equip, just look at the elec mowers at Lowe's HI the other day!
Jim, your pant selections at Penny's sounds depleted! Do you have an outlet mall near you? We went to the Haggar outlet store a few weeks ago and I got some khaki pants for $15.00 and polo-style shirts for $7.00 each, and all sorts of sizes too.
Oh and the thing about Popeye's Chicken, spicy and hot going down....and.....well...you know the rest....
