Good Morining!

Not often that I make it here in the morning so I'd like a toasted cinammon bun and a large coffee please Chloe.

Barry, did you find the remains of the cooked squirrel?  Pippa's dream was to catch one and have it barbequed so I wonder what she would do if it fell pre-cooked?  She came close a couple of times to getting one when she was young but she wasn't quite fast enough. Now she can't hear them and often doesn't see them. Getting old is the pits.

I've been doing a little, well I wouldn't exactly call it weathering but perhaps toning down, on a few box cars. I also have that little store painted and will put it together today. Not sure what I'll call it but it will help fill out the village a little.

Another cloudy day here with a chance of showers but the temp at 25C is ok and there is no wind which is very unusual. Wife and I are having a chill-out day.

I'll just sit at the RC and finish my bun and coffee.

Mornin' Playing hooky from church this morn. I need to mow the yard and fix the brakes on my truck. Just pads, but they got so low there wasn't enough "juice" to opperate the front calipers. I checked the pads when I replaced the ball joint and they weren't that bad I didn't think I'd need them yet. Oh well.

Ulrich- do you not have sump pumps or you not allowed to use them?

Lee- I kept looking at the photos, well the trucks wheels and track, trying to figure out how you kept the car on the track. Uh, duh! LaughLaugh

Ray- Have a safe and enjoyable event. I know you'll enjoy yourself.

Rob says- "Barry, so, how's the squirrel doing?"  Ohhhhhh, nooooooo! Garry's gonna start again!LaughLaughLaugh

Have a Great Day!!

Good morning.  Never got any rain yesterday.  Not one drop.  Maybe this afternoon again.

I guess I will head into the basement today.  Try to finish up some cars.

I did find a job in todays paper *FedEx Ground*.  I worked for them in NC for about a year and a half.  I had to give it up due to my grandmother was walking to work (I worked 3rd, and wasn't home till about 8-830am).  I got employee of the week twice, caught some people stealing (got a plaque for the head FedEx guy), and ghot promoted four times.  So...........Maybe that will help me.

Jeff.......Very funny story.  My wife and I were shopping the other day at Wal-Mart, and you always see something happen in the parking lot.   That day some old lady couldn't turn her car "tight enough" to back out, and slammed into a "Caddys" bumper.  She backed up again and left.   Maybe I should open a body-shop in the middle of the parking lot $$$$$.

Well I hope everybody has a good day.

***Jeffrey, wish we could see a pic of that gals face in the parking lot. Just maybe she will think twice about her own driving & attitude next time.

***Lee, the RCD looks interesting. Look forward to seeing it in place on the layout.

Mornin' everyone!

Just popping in for a quick cup of dark roast before heading out for a fun filled (I hope) week at SciTek Quest Camp.  We have 30 campers signed up for the program, the most we have ever had.  most are coming to camp for free as we managed to get 3 different scholarship programs to fund kids (14 to 18) to come to the camp.

I will bore you will a few pics from the week as it unfolds.  I put photos up at my Photobucket account every day for the parents and friends of the campers to see.

Got to get "On the Road Again....".  later!

Good morning folks.

I see that most of you are doing well.  For those of you that are not, I hope it changes for you.

I've been building kits at a fairly good pace these days.  With fall just around the corner, I need to get all of my spray painting out of the way.  The buildings are getting painted, assembled, and set aside.  The weathering and detail work can come later.  It's also satisfying my need to move things along.  As the buildings are built, I can start to visualize how my town will come together.  Almost instant gratification!  I may get some time later today to continue this building spree.  There is one thing that I'm learning with all of this painting, I need an airbrush.  The finished product would come out so much better with more control of the paint.  Some day soon I hope.

I hope you folks have a great day!

Good morning, here is a link to the rotary coal dumper I built.  The cost for the materials is $0.  I used scraps of wood I had and a heavy gage coat hanger.  A friend of mine had one on his layout, but he was using it to haul lime stone from a quarry to a steel mill so I can’t take credit for the design.  I intend to install a coal mine in the opposite end of my basement to load cars (still working on how to construct the remote shutoffs my friend has) and install a double car rotary dump for the port facility.  I think this will be an interesting operation to add to the layout; filling hoppers at the coal mine then delivering them to two different industries to be emptied.  On my friends layout it kept two drill teams busy dumping coal and filling the empty cars not to mention the two main line trains transporting the loads to their destinations.

This week’s project is to design and build a loader using the body of the Walther’s coal mine.

 Good morning.

It's 77 and cloudy. The high will be around 93 and there's a chance of thunderstorms.

Not much happened yesterday. My mother and I went to a restaurant in town for lunch then I brought her home and got her settled back in then worked on the layout for a little while then went to dinner in town with my sister and her husband. He's scheduled to go back over to the sand pit soon and is using his time to get some home DIY projects done. They just recently got their 4.5 ton central AC system replaced with a 5 ton system from Payne. It wasn't a pain to put in though it did require some reworking of the duct work and the mounting base. They'd been having some problems with the old system and the mounting frame for the evaporator assembly was partially rusted out. I'll stick with my Frigidaire. It keeps it downright frigid in here.

CNCharlie, Thanks for the offer, I allready knew from reasearch that it worked in Montreal for commuter service. I always thought No. 47 looked cool, with its Hudson wheel arrangement under a tank locomotive. As for the Jubilee, ANY locomotive in that state of repair brings tears to my eyes. Sad

 Good Morning,

this is the day today - married for 25 years now! A life sentence for murder gets you out of prison after 15 years... Evil

No, Zoe, that is not a black tie I am wearing - it is dark blue... Just some juice for me, and a bagel to munch on while I wait for the guys to drop in.

The weather will be fair today, just like I have ordered it for today. Not much of a celebration - I ain´t got no money to buy anything, that little piece of pressed carbon needs to wait!

Jeffrey - that happened to a friend of mine years ago. He bought an old fire chief´s car and just took down the blue lights (in Germany, they are all blue flashing lights). While stopping at a traffic light, an old lady just bumped into the rear, not much damage done to either car, but the little old lady fainted...

Jim - if Barry has some surplus HO scale bass and trout, I´d be happy to put them into my pond. It is not really a big pond, maybe 12 sq. feet...

Barry - would you please keep your ´ boomers and monsoon rain? Those folks with a basement in our area now really have a hard time with their basements getting flooded about every other day. There are tiimes when I miss a basement for a train room, but with the prevailing weather, I am glad I don´t have one. After all , I am into modeling trains, not submarines...Big Smile

A really good day to all of you!

Jeff, It is really amazing how low the water is in that lake. Does the level normally  fluctuate much? Must make boating challenging with all those stumps. Too bad they didn't cut them before the lake was created.

Usually the lake isn't anywhere near that low. They have it down this year because they're making repairs to the dam which is 40+ years old. Normally the depth varies by +/- 6 inches of normal.

You guys missed a funny one a few weeks ago. I was backing out of a handicap spot at Wal-Mart about 10 pm one night when a lady in a gray Mercury or Ford turns into the row at about thirty+ mph (12 mph limit), sees my car and slams on her brakes. Well, it's too late and she hits my back bumper, not hard enough to do any damage but it's enough to rock the car. The next moment she jumps out of her car yelling and screaming that it's my fault even though I was already well out in the lane when she came in on her qualifying run and hit me. Here's where it gets funny. The lighting in the parking lot isn't all that great so she can't really see the fire dept emblems on the car very well. She stopped in mid-rant as she spied the emergency light bar on my roof and went white as a sheet as she said 'Oh <insert explitive here>!' and was on the verge of fainting. She thought for sure she'd rear-ended a cop car! I reassured her that I wasn't a cop and that everything was all right. As for who was at fault the stores security tapes would prove that conclusively if she wanted to make a fight of it. There was no damage to either vehicle so we went our separate ways.

Good Evening Diners!

Nice day here in Winnipeg, no rain and a about 24C. It actually feels like summer.

Jeff, It is really amazing how low the water is in that lake. Does the level normally  fluctuate much? Must make boating challenging with all those stumps. Too bad they didn't cut them before the lake was created.

Nik.n , some nice shots of Steamtown. I hope to go there some day but I would find the state of that Jubilee disturbing as it is one of my favourites. That particular one is a class F1a. There also were a few F2a's built with 80" drivers and one of them hit 116 mph on an official speed run which is the record for Canadian steam.  If you want more info on the CN Baltics, send me a PM as I have an article about them in a CN historical magazine called CN Lines. They were used in commuter service out of Montreal.

Jim, I know what you mean about not sleeping soundly when you think you might be called. When Jamie was sick last year I slept with one eye open in case he had to go outside. I don't think I got a sound sleep for 6 months.

Well, time for a coffee and a little TV before bedtime.

Evnin' all. Had a good day today, took Mom out to dinner at the Golden Corral. Stuffed myself then went to the grocery store for a few items now I'm home and sleepy. I'll try not to take a ORF nap before bed.

Hey JP good to hear from you. Stimulating Walthers economy I see. Good for you.

Jim- I see your helping Walthers also. Yah, I know, I know, don't feed the trolls. But sometimes they're so cute I can't resist. No really, when I was a young tadpole I was picked on by a few kids. I did what I was taught, ignore them and they'll go away. Well the didn't. Now I wasn't even 10 then and this had gone on for a couple of years but one day I'd had enough, I stood up for myself and they stopped picking on me after that. (similar to the "Coward of the County" song a bunch of years ago but not neeeeeaaaar as dramatic, lets just say they weren't as tough as I thought they were.) They picked on me because I was an easy target that offered them no consequences. Once they found out I was no longer an easy target they quit. That has stayed with me all these years and every time I see something like that happen it reminds me of my little experiences and it upsets me. (kindest way I could think to put it) Tough guys behind a wall.

Well I might mosey on down to Toddland (where I'm king) and see what's happening.

Careful of the storms folks.

Good evening all. Very trying few days, and we aren't in a clearing, let alone out of the woods! Won't bore you with details, suffice it to say families and tennants and univited guests who don't know how to use a shower cutain (at least that's our guess as to how the basement ceiling under the bathroom in our daughter's home has been ruined) SHOULD NOT BE OUR PROBLEM. /SoapBox

In amongst all that, I'm nearly through with the first stage of the security fence around the container port. When I am, I'll do a photo essay of this stage and move onto the next, the way Robby does. Thanks Robby for your willingness to share your awesome technique. (Go to John's Documents>Trains>Articles Yeah!!)

I'll be in a booth someplace catching up to see if Duke surfaced with the news of his ROF status. I'm on page 36 and haven't seen it yet.

Jim, Barry: The lake is down 10+ feet. The area in the pic is usually around 5-6 feet deep. Moreover the area is archeologically sensitive as Native American artifacts have been found, so it'll probably be down a while longer while the archeologists do their thing.

Good Evening, Flo - I'll have a hot fudge sundae and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. Thanks!

Last night was good - no pages or calls (though since I was the primary, I woke up a few times. On-call does that to ya, hard to get back to sleep, wondering if the pager or cell is about to go off.... But I'm not too tired today. Zzz

Cederstrand
Jim, think I missed something in your post there?

Rob, the others were talking about 'marking territory' (in a certain other topic...), and I figured - with you living out of town a bit and closer to nature - you could explain how the wild critters 'mark' their territory... Smile,Wink, & Grin - if you catch my drift there...

Nik.n - great bunch of photos Thumbs Up - not sure on that 'end switcher', but the middle one is an EMD, possibly a SW-7 or SW900/1200, maybe an NW-2, but the RC's will have to correct me on that one. Wink

Garry, will be keeping you and Shelley both in my/our prayers. Take care of her. Yeah!!

Ulrich, with that pond you're developing in the yard, you should ask Barry for some tips on stocking it with some nice game fish. What do you think, Barry - what did you put in yours? Maybe some bass, or crappie or catfish? Laugh Hope you get some relief from your rains soon, Ulrich, and that sounds great about your cruise line! Yeah!!

Jeff, I'd say we need Barry and Ulrich to start pipelines from their places down to you. That is one DRY lakebed there! Wow!! You said that's what - two to four feet deep usually?

Hey, Todd, remember that rule in here ("Don't feed the trolls..."). Whistling Good that Crandell shut the door on that topic... They'll have to go somwhere else (for a while), I guess. You sound like you got a 'good' w**kout last night (enough to make up for the night before, even!). The rest probably was well-deserved, I'd say.

Barry, I haven't looked at them in a bit, but I'm guessing the general forum policies probably cover that 'civilized behavior' thing. Of course, some of those in that topic might not have bothered reading the instructions, either... Hope you keep your nose above water up there, with all that rain comin' through.

Hi, JP - how's the house coming along? Got any track plans to show us yet?

Stopped by our LHS owner's place (after doing laundry) this morning, and left him an order from the June flyer. I decided to get the Bar Mills' Collard's Creek kit(s) - the cabins are on sale in the June flyer, and the office and one cabin in the July flyer. Cute little things, and their style would work fine for my layout's era. Also ordered some Classic Metal Works vehicles ('59 Fairlane and some utility trucks).

Hope to get back to my background warehouse tomorrow - got the 3M scrubbing pad I'm gonna use to remove the extra 'grout' from it, and then possibly touch up with my fine-point Sharpies on the bricks. It's been too humid today to do any more spray painting, though.

Prayers will continue for rain to stop (or start), depending on your location, for healing of backs and other ailments, and for some good nights' rests. Also for opportunities to open up on cruise lines.

Blessings and a good night (or day, depending on your side of the pond),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hi John,

JPowell
Ray - I see the thunder boomer's are out in your area. Radar doesn't look good in the Rochester area. Seems to me like they've been getting poured on for over a hour if not more now. Shock

Yep Rochester is taking a beating!  But I doubt that Geneva will get more than a shower unless something else is moving this way.   We are under a Severe Storm Warning at the moment, but I think that is for the storm hitting Rochester.

So far, here in Syracuse, it's cloudy and 80 w/ winds out of the south @ 10mph. I beg to differ... they have been gusting over 15 on occassion for almost the last 45 or so minutes...

Anyways... moving on... Not much is new here on my front. I've gotten alot of Boley vehicles from various sites and my LHS lately and last night ordered $200+ worth of sale items from Walthers.

Well gang, take care!

For all practical purposes I am packed for camp.  I'm sure I'll remember something I need that is not packed about half way there...... Manét has been giving me the "sad" look all day and has been saying "mewwww"  which I think translates into, "Daddy, you goin' someplace?"  I installed and used my New Magellan 1440 GPS today.  Just wanted to see if I knew how to program it, so I put in an address across town.  Took me right there.......  There will be a couple of fieldtrips this week that I will most likely be a driver for, and it will be good to have thye GPS to give a good route to where ever it is???

Good Evening

A good old fashioned T'underin'boomer came through and monsooned on us. Lotsa rain, hail, and heapin' helpings of wind thrown into the mix----we even had a funnel cloud seen just west of us. SheeeshShock So we had another day with barrels of rain-----and no sun----Dead

Todd-Aiyup--that'd be the case----ol' fashioned marking behaviour----Disapprove---I'm thinking that if one starts up another weathering thread that one needs set the ground rules very explicitely anymore----mandatory course on how to be civilized-----

Jeff: How tall are the stumps out there? Or rather, what was the depth of that lake?Shock

Well, I got some weathering done----after I had a grocery run to make----now I'm just letting it dry some then I'll go after it some more------

Chloe, I'll have the Chicken and Rib platter with a RBF as well please. And I'll be having it at the RCDinnerApprove

The Mike had its drive axle's bearings burn up during the last water gap run, Which I happened to be on. It was noticed at the gap, and the GP and a DL alco pulled us back.

OUCH! That's expensive in ANY language!

Wow!  Poor old girl.  I am in love with that engine!......  According to the Steamtown site, she will be back on the road before the end of the 2009 excursion season.

"CN #3254 is in the Locomotive Shop, where our shop forces re-profiled the lead truck and main driving wheels, installed new springs on the trailing truck, and installed a rebuilt stoker motor. The locomotive is out-of-service for journal repairs as of June 28.  We expect the locomotive to be back to excursion service for the 2009 Operations Season before long."

Currently 82°F here in the Finger Lakes.  Just about the warmest it has been so far this summer.  We are also under a severe thunderstorm watch.  guess I better get out and finish up the lawn!!!!

Nik, so the Pacific is the only steam loco in service?  What is going on with that beautiful old 1917 CN Mike they have.  Is she in for service, repair, problem with her??????  Have any idea.  looks to me that Steamtown is sporting a lot of diseasals these days.  Last time I was there they only had 2 on the property.  Also the Pacific had just come out of the shops from a rebuild and was being broken in doing yard work.

Afternoon all!

Zoe How about a 1/4 lb. cheeseburgur with fries covered in gravy and a Dr. Pepper for lunch.

Got a little over half the yard done before the battery gave out.....  Which is OK as the guy pushing it was about ready to give out as well.....  So I have it recharging.  Should be able to get enough charge to finish the lawn by 3:30 or 4:00 and just enough time to mow before that ominous cloud arrives that Barry sent my way....Whistling

I'll be in now and then next week as we now have the camp wired (or should I say wireless) for the internet now.  Most Scoutmasters can use the wireless connection all the way out in the campsites.  Scouts are not allowed to use it except in special circumstances.  Staff can use the equipment in the SciTek Building or hook up in their campsite.  Everyone who uses the internet there has to sign a use agreement.  Of course the SciTek Campers will be online several times during the week just doing research for projects.  I'll throw a few cople photos your way every day so you can see what we do.

Lunch is here so I'll be at the Rivet Counter if anyone wants to be warned.......

Good morning, One of those king size breakfast burritos please. Medium sauce thank you, the hot stuff is too hot and covers the taste, or should I say melts the taste buds and I can't taste. Yes please coffee.

Who boy! Busy, last night, wasn't the word. Wow, I think everybody who didn't come in during the week came in last night. Got home and went straight to bed. I didn't get up until 9 am. I couldn't believe it. Of course I didn't sleep well the night before so I was a bit tired anyway but, 9?

Ryan- Gotta chance to check out the Popper recipe. That sounds fantastic. Three of my favorite things, bacon, jalapeno and shrimp. Looks like it's time to try another recipe!

Chris- Naw you didn't cause my blood pressure to rise. It shouldn't have bothered me, usually that stuff doesn't. Especially if the person it's directed to it doesn't seem to bother. Believe me I'm not the worlds protector. (at least in public life. In secret I'm known as....oops, almost let it slip). I just get so sick and tired of these people who run their mouth because they know no one can do anything without getting in a world of,... uh.. Poop. Sooo they suddenly become some sort of loud mouth smart,...uh,.. donkey because there is a wall of protection around them. In my day and all joking aside, it wasn't too long ago, you had to stand by what you said, you got mouthy with the wrong person and you paid for it. Sometimes painfully. Not anymore. And kids, kids are getting to be the worst. When they grow up, (tsk, tsk) These people are also usually the ones who when they begin to get challenged bring up their "right" to an opinion but doesn't allow any one their opinion. See? It's happening again. Sorry Chris, you have the same look on your face Robby did. You know the "what in the heck did I do" look.

I see we pretty much all feel the same about the "masters" . Jeff, I feel exactly the same way as you. Boy I guess you do need rain!

Jim- (talking in Asian accent) Oh you fawny!! I get it regular.Laugh Oh you real fawny. And I hope you didn't get upset with your backup last night and fire him. That could cause some problems. Whistling

CNCharlie- Glad to hear some good news about the four legged members of our families.

Garry- I'm praying for the best possible outcome for Shelly and for your safety on the trip. Angel

Well I successfully resisted to go to the weathering thread but I just read Chris's. I guess I'll be right back. Oh it doesn't look good I see where Selector was there. I'm heading over anyway.

OK I'm back. Yup figured as much. Luckily I've had my two rants so I got it off my chest. Odd though how some people contradict themselves and claim that they don't say what they said, and claim people don't do what they do. Even when it's written down and can be proved. I mean one guy claimed Robby didn't give credit to MTW, well I beg to differ. He has and I have the written word to prove it. Of course that would be something I could generate and wouldn't really be proof. What's that called a "straw argument" where you take the facts and twist them to suit your point? If the are saying it's not about the ego but are concerned that they aren't getting credit than it IS an ego thing. Well anyway, looks like Crandell stopped it. Too bad, I enjoyed the thread. What, did the guy just come over to bash Aggro? It look s like by the dates and number of posts he did. An internet stalker! I hope someone starts another. I might just post the old Water Tower. Open myself up a bit. And Barry I whole heartedly agree with your post over there. You don't need to tip toe on the person, but letting them know the good as well helps tremendously along with the needed improvements.

Dick- Thanks for the coupler tips. I'm a 148 fan but now you've got me thinking 158's. I just might pick up a pack and see.

OH MY GOSH!!!! I just thought of changing something because I was told it's more prorotypical. Oh I need some coffee. Are my eyes playing tricks? Is that a seat with  my name on it..........AT THE RIVET COUNTER????????!!!!!!

(runs out the door while saying) Have A Great Day!
