Robby: Hope ypu get a job soon. Even temp work is better than no work at all.
Ulrich: The shakes can be hard to deal with. Believe me, I know. I've developed ways of my own to deal with it while modeling. I'm sure you will too.

Good Morning Guys,
Zoe, just a glass of orange juice for me, without ice, please. I have to be easy on the coffee for some time.
Spent nearly all day with the doctor - he is most unhappy with the way my tremor develops. Could not hold my mug of coffee this morning. The only good new is - it´s not Parkinson´s disease. The bad news is that it will influence my model railroading activity quite a lot. Oh, sh....
I can´t say that I am feeling well - the bucket is nearly full!
Have a good day, all of you!
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe I think I'd like a short stack of buttermilk pancakes this morning with some dark NYS Maple Syrup, side of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.
Thank you to all for your kind words on the Ice House Pond scene. It is one of my favorite spots on the layout.
Last night I did some ballasting of the track right above the end of the Yard Lead. I need to get that done so I can finish the scenery (forest) on the mountainside. That will provide a good backdrop for photos of the area (requirement for the Scenery Certificate). If all is well, I will clean up the stray "pebbles" and get the forest started today. Found I never installed all the line poles that I intended so I hope to w**k on them today. I cut and stained the poles last night (1/8" dowel rod).
Ryan that sounds like a wedding to remember all right. Makes for great family stories to be passed down to the grandkids many years from now....
Ah breakfast is here, so I'll mosey on over to the Rivet Counter and chat with Barry for a while.

Morning folks!
I'll have some hot green tea and a whole wheat toast with peanut butter please....thanks Chloe!
Hey PC....dried off yet? Glad to hear the dragging has disapated....Funny about rain huh...I watered my garden on Sunday and don't cha know it rains 1" late Sunday night early Monday morning, and then another 1" Monday afternoon... go figure!
But hey, the high yesterday was in the mid 70's...we are loving this July of mild temps.
Hey Robby, looking forward to learning from the master weatherer... And good luck with the job searches. But I still think you should continue with your modeling talent and leverage that into some fulltime fun and income too!
Like the scenery work Ray!
Got that right Todd, seems like any flat place near the inside of a door becomes the catch all location. Just like the Ribbit Counter here in the Diner....catching all the folks who come through the doors....
We went to Fredricksburg, VA last weekend to attend the wedding of Monique's best friends daughter. It was an event for Americans Funniest Videos for sure. The ceremony was 35 minutes late getting started because the grooms mom showed up with wet hair and had to get it made up with no appointment with the on-site hair dresser. Then just after the exchange of the vows and rings one of the grooms men faints. But this was not your regular fainting spell, he was out for the count, eyes were dialated, he was having tremors and shaking, and his skin was turning yellow. Apparently he stopped breathing for a short time too. They called 911 and in about 7 minutes the EMT's were on site at the alter giving assistance. After taking is jacket off and drinking some water and about 20 minutes or so he was able to amble off to another room for more attention, eventually he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Turns out he has had a few of these spells the past month or so and tests have not found anything. The ceremony continued and after 2 1/2 hours the couple were wed. The reception was uneventful!
You all have a great day!

Good morning. It's 73 and partly cloudy. The high will be around 87 and there's a chance of rain.Got the parent's yard mowed yesterday with just a slight interuption. I cut the tractor off to take a short break. When I went back to start it, no luck. It wouldn't start. Seemed as though it was vapor locked. I couldn't find any starting fluid and I learned the hard way years ago about pouring even a little gas into a hot carb. Air freshener makes a great substitute. The engine fired right up and I was back at work. I also reminded my sister that we were out of chlorine for the pool so she made sure she got more. Trouble is she didn't have her son bring it down yesterday so I had to pick it up and carry it down here this morning. That drum is pretty hefty! Not sure what I'll be doing today. Just roused my mother from bed and I have her breakfast ready for her. She just has to get out her to the library to enjoy it while she watches the her daily depressing news channels, Fox and CNN.Today's Weather for:Sundown, LA 71446-6114 7/21/2009Heat Index: 82°FHumidity: 87%Dew Point: 73°FSo Far TodayHigh: 77°FLow: 72°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 7mph SSWToday High: 90 Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Todd..............The lightly weathered car, is still on "the bay". A few watchers, but that doesn't mean anything. One car awhile back I had 19 watchers, and no other bids. Oh......Then the guy asked if I had "The Rock" boxcar still for sale, and I said "no, but I could do one for you". So, maybe that will be a extra buck or two. Plus I have a eBay fee mounting up .
The interview for the elementary job is next Wednesday 22nd. I do have a interview at another job tomorrow, but its through a temp service . Its for "solar panels". A company from Germany I believe has a factory here making them. They just got a loan/grant for $7.5 million dollars for the "panels", and a new warehouse. So maybe that job will workout.
If not, at least I'm making something on "the bay".
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Good Morning All,
We had a bit of the thunderstorm Robbie sent us and a steady rain since. Good job on the freight car Robbie and yeah go with the stuff that "moves" for now unsold inventory is just a drag on turnover. We had a friend stop by at Pittsburgh from Oz on his way to Goodwood for the vintage meet there so I guess our friends to the south are holding their own in these times of economic turmoil.
Inch - good to see you stop in - it's a bit too early for the Irish type of coffee for me but I'll join you with my usual at the RC. Sounds like you've been too busy for train chasin' or photos but I hope all is well with you and yours.
PC - our prayers for your son. Those invisible storms can also mess up your day, no? We lucked out during the last weekend as it only really rained after we were done on track.
Ray - nice work! Loads to look at and nice details but not overdone as some are. Know all about the dry rot as we have a lifetimes work at the Danbury museum for similar reasons. When we were doing track work last year a lot of the spikes in the yard could be pulled by hand as the ties were up to a century old. Those old line yankees on the New Haven really knew how to strech a buck and give back change!
Well, the coffee was good but I gotta go - loads to do in the shop again before we leave for Nova Scotia Thursday. Catch y'all later. J.R.
Coffee, lot's of coffee. I'm glad PC's feeling spry this morning, he must have slid the snoozey's off to me though.
Jim- nope, no beano. She's happy the dryers back up and running. Unfortunately I decided to take the ductwork apart and clean it. Without checking to see if I had any duck tape( I always have duct tape). I picked some up last night on the way out of Springfield so she'll be back domesticatin' today. I can't believe I didn't have any duck tape. Maybe I gave it to Inch for the young-uns and forgot.
Sawyer- Good call on making the isle wider. Remember you're not just going to stand in that isle to run trains and get the occasional (hopefully) derail or switch a turnout. You'll be building half the layout from that isle. Laying track, scenery, all sorts of stuff and think of climbing out every time you need to switch the turns on the other side of the layout.
Robby- Another excellent job. I haven't been on the bay lately, did the lightly weathered car do well? I would think a mix of levels of weathering would be nice. Oh, I see you've answered that while I was typing. Good luck on the interview, is it this Wednesday as in tomorrow? Or next Wednesday as in a week from tomorrow. "Greeting" kids? Sounds more like Kindergarten Cop to me. Wear shin guards
Ryan- Congrats on the rebirth of the work bench in the garage. I also must find mine every 6 months or so. It is next to the back door so it is a convenient flat spot. Eventually I find myself working in a tiny little spot if I can find that. I need to clean it off now come to think of it.
Ray- Great pictures. (Well, they're good too but I really mean the subject matter). If I had to choose I'd pick the second picture. Something about the scene draws me to it.
I know it wasn't a contest Zoe, and I did like them both, I was just sayin'...... oh never mind. Women.
Rob- I'm glad your "problem" purchase came out good. It looks like your wife got lucky huh. Is she running steam era? (or does it matter ) I don't remember. I remember she was working on the circus/carnival.
Jerry- Hope today is better!
Could I have a refill please Zoe?... Zoe? Oh great she's ignoring me. What'd I say now.
Have a Great Day!

Good morning. Well a thunder storm came through last night about 2:00am or so, and calling for them on and a off today.
Well I gotta make another trip to the LHS. That boxcar car I did yesterday sold, in a few hours. Its going to Australia. I would change it up a bit, and do a different car......BUT, boxcars seem to be the hottest thing right now.
Other than that, not much planned.
Everybody have a good day.
Mornin,, a tall irish coffee if'en ya would dear.
Been busy round here with kids n chores. I've got 4 extras this week and 2 of those ain't our grandkids. So today I'll have 7 or 8 runnin round to keep track of. Hope I've got enough duct tape.
PC, we're keeping your son in our thoughts that things work out well for your sons problems.
ROB,, you n the wife get to the doc's period, no arguing bout it, just go.
JIM CG,,, hope you have a good set of jewelers files and a file card when you start on the sawmill. That's the easiest way I found to clean up flashing an burrs on W-S parts.

The weathering pics been great also. Makes me want to start on some of that, but I've got enough other projects going fight now.

Mornin' folks!
Seems I'm a bit more spry today. Yesterday I was draggin' butt!
So whats up with all of you?
Good Morning--
The current weather has us with another 60% chance of showers today and a high of 24C and a low of 14C. Typical weather for here this year. Tomorrow will bring us showers again with some wind---sigh
Got more roadtripping to do today. This time to the south of us so we'll be in the office a little earlier today---I've really had not much MR time this last few weeks aside from the field trip up to Palmerston---( some of us pronounce it as "Pa-a-merston" here ) so maybe this weekend we'll get a slight chance of such(?)
Chloe, I'll have an orange and a coffee please--I'll sit at the RC and see who else shows up

Good evening, still 65F and humid, tropical rains coming up the coast at us overnight and all day tomorrow, looks like I got the garden tilled and grass cut and placed in the garden just in time.
MRR: Been working on car kits , Athearn and Accurail, 5 built in two evenings, about an hour each. I replaced the platic wheels with metal, and replaced the couplers with whisker 158's instead of the horn couplers that come with some of the kits. The prices on these kits was too hard to pass up at LHS over the past year. Still waiting for Sprue #12 to come in the mail from ME for the 150' truss bridge, I need that bridge in place in order to build the track on the layout.
RYAN: Yes, Brian Solomon is excellent! I hope that some of you guys have an opportunity to check out some of his railroad books.
RAY: Very nice job on the scenery !!! The rock face looks very nice.
JEFF: That Mustang brought back memories of my '69 Mustang with hood scoop. I kept getting stopped on the interstate going to work back then. It seems that my Mustang, which I bought used, had some special work done on it, resulting in the speedometer having a 15% error. NOT NICE!!
Bed time, see you guys later,
Today was eventful for me. On the MR front I built 6 cars. 3 Athearn BB 54' PS hoppers (NP, Soo, and MILW) and 3 E&C modernized PS-1s (ACL, RI, and MP). Unfortunetaley the bottoms on the BB PS hoppers were never painted so I had to do that myself. The Soo was easy to correct since I had a silver that was dead on. The NP I brush-painted the bottom BN green (BN green is pretty close to NP green). The MILW was a different story. I tried yellow, but it was too bright, so I tried spraying a light coat of brown over it to get it closer. It looks okay, except for one spot that is actually brown. I might run to a store and see if they have a spray bomb that is closer, or weather it and try to hide it.
On the non-MR front, I got a haul off of someone else's parts car. A full set of leather seats, 2 front fenders (probably the hardest to find parts for a Mustang), a rear deck lid and spoiler, and a bunch of other stuff. Total cost: $0 (zip, zero, zilch, nada). I'm debating putting those leather seats in, since the driver's seat has a few tears in the leather and it'd cost a couple hundred to get re-upholstered.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Hello all
Got back from the road trip for work.We had another day of rain show up and dump all over us and as I can see PC rode through an invisible shower. I Have another 3" binder full of stuff to go through now---think I'll sit with all this paperwork tonight and get-r-done.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ray: Like the way the scenery is working out
Robbie: good luck on that interview---!!
Chloe, I'll have a coffee and some blueberry pie please---I'll sit at the RC and see who else shows up tonight--
Well I just got a phone call for a interview next Wed. at 9:30 am. Its for a elementary/middle school door greeter. I would check all people coming in and going. Check ID's, etc. Its only minimum pay, and no benefits. That's fine, anything is better that ZERO. I might have to dust off my good attire. I think I will like it. Being married to a teacher kinda helps out.
Ryan............Thanks. I would like to do a step by step. I will try to find a decent car to do, and maybe next time I will do that.
Ray.............. I agree, nice scene.
Hope everybody has a good day.
Oh....now I remember....my 3rd Planit part 3 article tutorial in the MRH online mag was pushed up to October because the July issue was so huge, that's about it for now
Accidently hit the Post button before I was finished putting up what I wanted to post....with my last post....
Anyhoo....so Robby, your latest weathering is fantastic! When are we going to get a full tutorial on your techniques...or did I miss it from being out so much lately?
Now I done forgot what else I wanted to say here.....old timers must be settin' in...ore....maybe I jus need some of PC's coffee....oh right....his is decaf.....or not caf enuf.....oh well......
A coffee refill for me, please, and top off PC's while you're at it...sounds like he can use it.
***Ray, nice work on the scenics there.
Remember that Bachmann "N" 0-4-0 Docksider I picked up for $10 which included delivery? Well, it arrived today and runs great, but not on my N track, but on the wife's HO track. Yup, turns out the seller thought it was N instead of HO. Lucky accident for the wife I guess. Runs great, too.
The other e-seller sent me 4 autos pulling little camping trailer, 3 pickup trucks, and replacement parts for the IRS building, now destined to become a Hospital on the wife's layout.
UPS left the Train Crossing Light (big box) outside the gate today. It doesn't seem as heavy duty as the one we saw at the antique store. It only weighs 15lbs!?!
Rob
Afternoon folks!
Time for one of those RBFs, Flo. I have it over at the Rivet Counter if you please.
The job for the morning (after I finished weeding the garden) and the early afternoon was to finish up some scenery at the Ice Pond behind Cooley's Blue Ice. Here is the back of the pond where a young couple are sitting and enjoying each others company on a beautiful Summer's day.
And one of the falls and the pond at the back of the Ice House:
JimRCGMOI'll try not to bump PC and wake him up... (or would he want to be awakened? Must've had a long night of it yesterday, as I don't think he said he was out riding his bike. Zoe, what about a coffee IV drip?
I was out for about 4 hours. It was beautiful when I left, and radar showed rain to the north, so I went south. So 2 1/2 hours later, I'm riding through this downpour that mankind hasn't seen the likes of since the days of Noah, and I finally arrive home.......TO SUNSHINE!!!! Everybody is out grilling, and I'm standing in the driveway creating a large puddle under my feet! I was soaked to the bone! I WRUNG out my socks! So much for radar!
Now, where's that IV?
Just a ham and cheese sandwich for me today Chloe, thanks! Oh and one of those RBF's too!
Got most of the "The List" done and now back to work work, but as some of you noted the list was work too, but I'll take that kind of work anytime. Now I have a real workbench in the garage at the ready, before last week it was piled high with junk and boxes from our move over 3 years ago. Now I have a base from which to start some more projects....
Made a batch of Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya on Saturday for Ben's baseball team end of season party, ate some yesterday too, and tonight....
Picked up a couple packs of 10 LED surface mounts at the LHS Train Buddy on Saturday that I had ordered when Garry was in during my last visit, turns out that Kim was attending a funeral for an uncle in Ohio. I was hoping to hear some of his renditions of some ole Buddy Hacket jokes....
Yeah, that Ulrich strudle sounds some good too!
PC, hope everyone heals up quickly and all the best for their speedy recovery.
Dick, that Mr. Solomon presentation must have been quite a show, and 34 train books too. I think I may have one of his volumes in my library.
Jim, speaking of prices.....oh boy...went to the grocery on Friday night and I'll say that $160.00 didn't even fill up a whole basket. Going to have to resort to beans and rice again soon....for the frugal meal plan.
Mike, I resemble most of the ABC's you mentioned, not all, but most!
Garry, nice GN videos, on the Part 1 noticed at the 3:54 mark there is SR (Southern Railway) boxcar, like that especially! And on Part 3 how about the comments on these kids getting chased around the 2:14 mark "..oh there a gonna get it...yes they are!", classic. I could watch that kind of stuff all day long. Love it, thanks!
Jim...........I'm about 10 houses down from the VFD. A few weeks ago, we were walking the dogs...............Wouldn't you know, it started to go off right above us!! All I could see was my wifes lips moving . Its pretty loud. Another VFD is about 2-3 minutes away and you hear it as well.
Well here's the latest boxcar. I might do some touchs ups, but its pretty rust!!!
Yeah Jim, maybe a little, lol.
Garry, thanks man. I might pull the table out 6 more inches to get a wider aisle though.

Good Morning, Zoe - not too long until lunchtime, so I'll just have a cup of coffee for now, please 'n' thank you!
AmanaMedicIn here, "left" and "right" are directions. "Right wing" and "Left wing" refer to which part of the chicken dinner ya dig into first.
Chris, that's true, except for those of us who prefer the b***st (are white meat people)...
Now, Robby - that boxcar has some rust, just not as much as you like on 'em... Gee, what a wakeup call - is your place close to the VFD, or do they just have very noisy sirens?
Garry, thanks for the links to the videos - I'll check them out tonight after w**k. You had me recalling a couple of vacation trips (by car...) our family made, one to Colorado when I was young, and another to the headwaters for the Mississippi also. Ah, the good ol' days.
Sawyer , you sound just a little bit excited about all that space in your new train room (just a wee bit excited, yeah...) Enjoy!
I see that Todd (the man of few words) has been in this morning... How ya doin', Todd ? So what happened - did your wife feed the dryer Beano?
Jeff - I like that shot of the enginehouse. Is your weather supposed to ease off anytime soon (like this fall)? Don't think I could live close to the ocean with all that humidity, I don't even like our humid days much at all up here in Missouri.
I'll try not to bump PC and wake him up... (or would he want to be awakened? Must've had a long night of it yesterday, as I don't think he said he was out riding his bike. Zoe, what about a coffee IV drip?
Ray, good to hear your water pour went well, and best wishes on your 'catchup' today (no, thanks Zoe, talking about a different kind).
Jerry - hope that they get all your stuff w**king again (internet, phone, both chairs, and anything else around the place that comes to mind!). How's Sallie been doing?
I'll sit here at the counter until it's about lunchtime (or RBF time, whichever comes first).
[Edit]: Well, speaking of lunch, it looks like it's on my tab - eat up, chowhounds! Zoe, start my tab, and I'll be in the back, starting on the dishes...
Blessings,

Hello ...
I'm glad some of you had a chance to look at the old Great Northern videos. It is good it brought back memories such as is teh case with Ulrich and Rob. I like the dome ride in the GN Empire Builder. It brouight back several memories of dome car rides in trains my family rode in times long gone. America once had the finest passenger trains in the world, and the goverment threw it all out favoring crowded highways and crowded airports while wasting billions of gallons of fuel. It baffles me.
Sawyer ..... That track plan looks like you can do a lot! Go for it! Have fun! Keep us posted.

Well, I have my plan. And yes, I know the aisle is a tight squeeze, but I'm the only one that will operating the layout, and it'll work for me. I still need to draw in the buildings etc, but here it is for now:
Coffee in a UP WE CAN HANDLE IT mug, please & thanks.
***Sawyer, looks like a great place to be working on a layout. Look forward to seeing your progress.
***Garry, those videos were TERRIFIC. Thanks for sharing them. Washington State, my last stomping grounds (11 years worth) before moving to the deep south. Took my 9-person Miwok raft down just about every whitewater river in the state. Ahh, the memories.
***Jerry, hope you get things taken care of asap.
Found some antibiotic ear drops to use short term. Wife has swelling from another bad tooth, so we'll probably call the Doc tomorrow and make us both appointments. Thanks for all the concern, guys!
Have a good day all. Rob
