although it has seemed to get better now that the forums have switched over to this new one... lot of the old trolls have seemed to packed up and moved on (thankfully)

We don't need any snow in Louisiana, though my young friend would love it, if for no other reason, it gets him out of school for a little while. He had a run-in with a bully today. Happy ending, the bully got suspended for 2 weeks.

well, thats good.  I hope that he'll stick around the forums, as well as venture beyond the coffee house and into some of the other threads... AND that he won't get scared off by some of the "my way is the only way to get anything done" types that seem to pop up every so often.

Those both require a lot of skill to play well.......particularly jazz.  Congrats on the selection!  You must be fairily talented!

I generally don't post in here (Coffee really isn't my thing...) but since its a little slow elsewhere, I figured I'd stop in.

Good luck on the model pike.  Its gonna be great (no matter what happens with it).  I was in a similar boat when I was your age (not too long ago actually, My 20th b-day was a little over a month ago)... noone sems to like trains anymore... a sad thing that is...stupid playstations and xboxes and other videogames ruining the (other) youth...

do you want our snow too?  Lake effect snow is terrible!

I remember one time, one of my friend's parents was talking about when Columbus(OH) got about 2" of snow.  They were on the highway, headed back up here, and were stopped by the highway patrol - probably for good reason (he was 17 or so at the time).  But when the officer saw that he was from Cleveland, he just waved them on... 

.. I wish we only got 2"of snow... i don't even think there;s been a snowstorm recently thats left less than 2" of the white stuff on the ground...

hi. my name is david, im 13 years old and i live in leesville, la. my hobby is model railroading, although i dont have a layout of my own. my neighbor is going to help me build one early next year. he says this is a nice place to come and ask questions and to meet people. i am very shy and dont make friends easily because of it. as far as pets go, i have a cat that lives outside. it cant come in because my mom is allergic to cats and my neighbor, my friend, is too. im terrified of dogs, especially big ones.

Been in the train room a playing for a bit, thought I'd take a break and stop in.

Dick ,,, I went into the AF [like flying more than hiking] as a aircraft machanic. When I made asst. crew chief , I got flight pay [$50 a month] and a chance for a 10 day jump school, so I took it.
 The Airo Club where I was stationed had a jump plane and chutes, $15 a jump and pack your own. So I got to jump several more times. Luved it, then I got a wife and kids, so the fun ended.

Think I'll head back to playing, catch ya'll laters

Hey guys, I just had a ton of fun! I completely disassembled an Athearn F7A Super Power Locomotive. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to run without the headlight flickering. I finally had to disassemble the entire thing, motor, trucks, wheels, gears, everything and gave it a thorough cleaning, the first it's had since I got it 22 years ago (1984). It was filthy! No wonder it didn't run right. I even took the bearings out and cleaned them. When everything was clean and shiny, I reassembled the mechanism, lubed it, put the weight and shell back on and put it back on the track. Now it runs beautifully, steady, no flickering light and faster than it was before. Oh! One thing I forgot to mention. This is a trainset locomotive that has been running dependably for all those years. The only modifications I made to it was to put in a super weight about 20 years ago and to convert it for a DCC decoder, which hasn't been installed yet.

Hi Gang: Not a whole lot to report from here. The mornings are in the 40s and the afternoons in the 70s. Kind of typical for here at this time of year.

I'm still making slow progress on the Cliff's shaft mine head. I am really getting to like working with the PVC sheet. It's very easy to work and can be repaired easely. Of course my X-acto never strays off course. I've got the basic oblisk clued up and have to get the detail castings on next.

It's getting close to go home time so I'll sign off and see you all later.

Good afternoon gents, it never cleared here this morning, very heavy overcast rained just north of us, but clear at Cape Cod.

We just had a commuter train accident here, south of Boston, a commuter train going 40 mph ( the legal limit) crahed into a flatbed truck that got hung up on the tracks carrying an excavator. The driver of the truck ran down the tracks and tried to signal the engineer, but with oly 400 feet of notice, there was no way he could stop the train in time. No one seriously hurt luckily.

JEFF: I am going to try Krylon clear coat to see how that works, I will let you know how it looks/behaves.
Those pics of the wreck are really something else...what a costly accident. I always wonder with accidents like this, is it poor maintenance on the cars, or tracks? And, with cost of this disaster, was it really worth skimping on maintenance ( if that was indeed the cause)?

Flames continue to rise today out of the scene of last night's rail car derailment that triggered explosions, fire and evacuations along the Beaver River in New Brighton.

Flames shooting out of wrecked tankers last night after the derailment on a rail trestle.

Flaming jets rise from some of the wrecked tanker cars authorities said were carrying ethanol.

Officials estimated that as many as eight of the rail tanker cars were engulfed in flames after the wreck
