Doggone it PHIL!!!!! I told you not to eat FERGIE's drumstick that we saved for him!! What a way to treat our good Canadian neighbor...tsk, tsk...I heard he actually threw a few chairs around the CS!!! Boy...I'm glad I wasn't there, MIKE and I and DUKE can't move that fast there days. LOL

Interesting comments about Model Railroading and other mags that have bit the dust. I do agree that any mag that fails to change with the hobby by not satisfying the needs of the purchasing public is doomed to failure. Hobby magazines MUST address all the key areas of interest in ANY hobby or craft, the how to clinics, new product evals, articles by modelers, feedback column, LHS list, this is just a few of what a good mag must provide to be successful in my opinion.
Take a look and Popular Science and Popular Mechanics.....how long have they been around? I am 67 and remember reading them with great interest as a 7 year old, I still subscribe to bothe of them......here they are still going strong in 2006!!! They learned to change with the times.

Yup "ding" no more.
Its too bad I liked that magazine. One of the final things that made me stop subscribing was getting my April edition in July or getting a combined April /May edition in July.
This past month  2 magazines have folded up their tents.Model Railroading and Mainline Modeler. Both publications were not doing so good over the past couple of  years. The other magazine people have been saying is next  is Rail Model Journal or RMJ.Over the years I've subscribed to them all. They are the ANTI- Modelrailorader magazines. No advertisements for hobby shops, just the mfg's of railroad stuff. No how to articles.Just nuts and bolts artilces on the prototype. In some ways this why MR is still around and the other 2 are not. It was only a matter of time that this was going to happen

One of my forum members dug this up over at the Atlas forum.

Well got this off of the Atlas forum:
Gentlemen:

Model Railroading has indeed ceased publication. The Oct 2006 will be the
last issue. We faced the decision as to our future and put our efforts into
the On30 Annual 2007. That publication has been printed, is available from
hobby shops through Carstens Publications and to individuals from us at
www.on30annual.com.

We are working on distribution of the company's other assets and will be
contacting our subscribers shortly with their options. I can't comment
further as those are both ongoing.

The hobby is undergoing a evolution and while we are proud of our
contributions to the hobby over the years and our forward thinking, we
simply were not large enough to withstand the rapidity of the changes. The
internet, while significant, was not the only factor.

While we have ceased publication, we are not out of business. Should you
need the On30 Annuals, any of our other books, backs issues of MRG or the
Finescale RRer, please contact us.

Good Evening All,

Any left overs? I.m back from Summit Point early which is never good. My wife and I finished the Lotus 7 by noon on Thanksgiving Day, I thebn loaded up and got on the road by 2pm - easy trip except for the rain I ran through until around Harrisburg.

Friday i got to the track, met the driver got the car teched and ready plus I'd brought my Lotus 7 as well, so the same for it. I decided to sit out the first practice so I could devote my full attention to the car we'd just finished. We went out and did what we call an installation lap where you come back into the pits at the end of the first lap and check that everythings alright and not leaking or something  else silly. Everything was ok so I waved him back out. After 4 laps he didn't come around and I got very worried as when you screw up the problem appears early on in running. You are worried you sent the car out with loose suspension or something you modified broke or a weld was defective - the possibilities are endless - and you are left to worry. On theother hand the session wasn't stopped and the ambulance wasn't despatched so no crash or injury, just uncertainty. After the session ended I went back to our paddock area to wait for the car to be brought back epecting at the least a very irate driver. I eas relieved to see the car being flat towed (rope on the roll hoop and rolling on all 4 wheels) so at least the suspension hadn't failed. Then I noticed a trail of oil under the car. Turns out the driver went off the outside of turn one and ran over a boulder hidden in the grass. Knocked the motor clean off its mounts and moved the gearbox over 2" to the left  destroying the driveshaft tunnel and putting a hole in the oil pan at the same time.  The driver shut the car off after noticing the oil pressure had disappeared (along with the oil). End of weekend and a poor result after working literally all my waking hours on the car for the last few weeks. On the plus side in the short time the car ran it seemed completely different from what it had before to the effect that he had gone off attempting an outside pass on a slower car.

I ran my car the rest of the day putting him in my car for a session so at least he could get some track time out of a long drive from Boston. In the last session of the day something snapped in the back of my car and it got all squirrelly. After pulling in I discovered the frame mounted rear axel locating pin had snapped. Since it was the end of the year and the car had been working really well I felt the combination of events was a hint from the Lord that enough was enough so I declined to try a field repair and headed home today(had it been the customers car that would not have been an option). It's an odd end to the season, but I'm now looking forward to spending some extra time on the layout and getting ready for next season.

It's good to be home and I'll try to catch up on posts tomorrow. CUL,J.R

probally someone trying to get your goat. They wish model railroader would collapse. Model railroader is stronger than most others out there I would say. you would have to have 5 others mags closing at the same time just about as there all connected together and that is trains, clasic toy trains, model railroader, garden railroading and classic trains. Kalmback publishing is too big not say it couldn't but there is to much other and the subscription to MR is more than you probally can realize.

Must have been a three-legged turkey because I got one also.

I was on a swimming team at Forest Hills High and on the team at Miami Beach High. Maybe thats why I can still put in over 50 hours at work each week.                       lol

Fergie- good to know your Dad is doing better.

Prayers for all.

Morning All:

Fergie: Good news about your dad. I hope that the contractor is on time and ready to go. Mary Ann hired a contractor to do her pump/ wash house. He started when it was hot out and just this week got the walls framed and up. It wouldn't be so bad except he's our SON!!Censored [censored]Banged Head [banghead] Oh well at least he's here and making progress. That's OK about the deseasel. It's a first generation and rather unusual. Also it's FM.

RT: I'm sorry to hear about your boss. I'll say afew for him.

As usual for Saturday I'm at work. Not too bad because I  am getting to work on painting the Cliffs minehead.

I've got to go and get the park ready. I had about an hour down time on Gold River because they didn't turn on the air for the animations. What happened to giving the ride a walk through fellows?Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

I'll stop back in later.
