Ryan: I was forced into retirement at the age of 43 because of medical reasons and have to get along on a fixed income of $603 + $37 in food stamps a month. That has to pay the electric bill, car insurance, groceries, loan payment (which will be paid off within the week), cable bill (for my high-speed internet), gas for the car and still have a little left for trains. Only by keeping my needs to an absolute minimum can I accomplish this feat. So, when you think you don't have it so good, look around, somebody else is having a harder time.

Jeff, that is why I count my blessings every day. I try not to take anything for granted, especially my time here on earth. I just hope that Monique and I are lucky enough to retire with enough to get by with our current modest standard of living. In my mind these days I truly feel like I will never really retire, but continue doing something to keep me busy. I think a part time job at Home Depot or Lowe's would be something to do after I "retire".

Dick, between our small 401K's and a small nest egg of savings hopefully they will translate into much larger nest eggs in the next 20 - 25 years. Social Security might be around then, and if so that would be a nice help, but I am not trying to count on it as a major source of income. BTW, what is a 101K?

PC: HAPPY BIRTHDAY you olde hound dog!!! 45 years old, that means you have 20 more years to reach 65 for retirement...ohh oh, you are a youngster, you have to add 10 more months to that for FULL SS benefits. I think you are the same age as Fergie!!!!! You may have to wait until you are 70 because it looks like the Democrats might win control of the House and Senate, and they plan to raise the age to bail out SS.

It wasn't my birthday.  It was Ryan's (silverspike).  I'm 41, so I've got a little longer wait for all that.

RYAN: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I thought it was PC's BD ....ohhh well, happy belated BD to PC and Happy BD to you Ryan!! So your 45, the same age as FERGIE ( who is missing in action ).
As for 101K, that is a slang for what happens to your 401K when it gets shrunk by poor Market performance.

Well since I'm buying Cleo, I'll have a barley pop. Good thing I get my eagle poo Fri., I can settle up then. What happens with  a little help [J Bird] I geuss.
The weather was crazy today, got down to 44, then the sun come out sooner than predicted and got back up to 51. Good weather for a cold. Suppose to get below freezing tonight.

Dick ,,, got the wood pellet stove going, does that count. Mother don't like wood stoves. Mainly because she almost burnt the house down twice, not watching it.
I've done a lot of dumb things in my life, but telling her, that her place is at home is not one of them. I'd have to buy a new frying pan.
We had one of those 401k that became a 101. We lost over 3/4'ths of it in a couple days, during the last market belch. Still havn't recovered from that

Jeff,,,  I far just a bit better than you on retiredment and with Mother working, we make out ok. We got lucky our place was payed off when I started drawing, so all we have is taxes and utilties, which are both to high. But things are still tight at times
.
Welcome to ya DIRR2006 to the CS. Hope ya enjoy your vists here and come back often.
I'm in HO also and freelance E. central ILL.

We've had some gobblens here and are waiting on some more to show. Meanwhile I'm trying to get in some layout time. So catch ya'll laters

Well good evening everyone. It's been a while  since I was last in som I figured that I would pop by and say howdy.Been a busy couple or three months for us, reno's at my store and now it's that time of year oh well it keeps life interesting to be sure. I see that everyone has survived the Halloween eve festivities , we had our usual 20 kids show up. Living on a dead end has it's ups 'n' downs.

Happy B-Day [bday] to Ryan , I just had my 35th not all that long ago, seems like it wasn't all that long ago that I was 17Sigh [sigh] time does march on.

I'll lave everyone with a few Halloween shots, we just finished up our operating year at the musuem with our two saturday night scare fests. they were a huge success the last being this past saturday night, over 1500 people through the musuem doors a wonderfull way to end off the year.

Here's the haunted railgrinder going back to pasture for another year.

TROLLEY ROB: Good to see you in the CS again, where have you been???

MIKE: My CFO doesn't like wood stoves either, but we have about 9 acres of hardwood here, so that makes the wood FREE. We have a Dutchwest stove down in the lower level of our house. We havn't fired it up yet, not really cold enough yet, 62F tonight, not bad for this far north is it? The Pellet stove upstairs has been in use the last few weeks on cold nights, but that is about it.

JEFF: Cheer up Jeff, SS just gave us a 3.3% monthly raise. Ya I know, whoopy do, then they take away half of it for Medicare part B auto deduction from the SS check, and that is I think up $5 more this year.

See you in the AM

Good Morning All,

Regular coffee to go please Zoe. Survived Halloween all right - not nearly as many go out around here anymore and our own are too old to go.The shop and rigs survived all right as well with no vandalism this year.50's and high overcast this am, but the sun is peaking through so it should be a good day. MRR has just been backrounds and backround buildings but we need to get on with the museum display and I need to finish backdrops before going further with track work.

Ended up getting sidetracked yesterday with an MGTD needing a distributor building and a bunch of little stuff (like fuel leaking out of everywhere and half the engine wiring off). Neat piece though with a supercharger fitted (probably make 80hp now instead of the original 36).

Back to work duty calls and all. CULBig Smile [:D], J.R.

Good morning - just a quick stop for a bite today. I'll have what Jeff's having, Zoe!

Kind of bummed - found out yesterday that the guy who had the winning bid on my camera equipment is from out of the country (Spain), which leaves me uneasy about possible fraud and my seller not getting me the money. If he ends up losing it, I will be leaving him a nastygram with the local BBB, plus possible legal action. Just trying to turn things over to God on this; moderate success with that.

Inch, have you trimmed back your beard? Several cute costumes there! Yeah!! [yeah]

Cooler today in Missouri, but the rain (for now) has stopped. Hope everyone else's day goes well.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning all!

Happy All Saints Day!

I see David, Mike and Jeff and others have stopped in.  How goes it guys?

Well, I turned in those old house keys yesterday.  That was tough.  Lived there a long time, ya know?  You can build up some memories in 10 years.  But, it's time to start some new memories!

My boy did pretty well on the candy haul last night.  We had a few trick or treaters at our house as well, though we still have candy left over from that.

BTW inch, thats some good looking costumes there!  The one in the middle of the first pic has got to be the most realistic looking one I've ever seen! Wink [;)]

I made a decision the other day.  I used to build model cars as a hobby.  I have a bit over 300 kits that I've collected over the years and most of them are untouched.  I'll never get to them, and I'd rather be railroading, so......I think I'm going to start putting some of them on Ebay and then using the money to get more train stuff.  I've got a lot of rare old kits, so I should be able to make some cash.  I just don't have time for three hobbies. (trains, model cars, and real cars)

GTM, nice bunch of 7's!  Your little turtle friend is cool too!

Well, time to get to doing something!

Later!

We figured that this would hold at least 500 40-50'cars.Our group has already gone through 125 pc of code 83 flex and about 15 switches. One of the members is a architect so he is doing full size cad drawings(makes life much easier)The big question is can we finish this?
