Good Morning All,

   Rainy and cool this morning. I'll have a regular and that twisted donut in Bills' assortment looks mighty good Zoe.

   Missed most of last nights museum presentation on the Maine Central branch now run by the Conway Senic Railroad. The slides I did see were spectacular.

   Seems we need to get serious about the museum turntable and probably take it out of service so we can jack it up and check the main bearing and for sure rework the outrigger wheels and drive mechanism pillow block bushes. Whew - it'll be fun figuring out how to lift and block up a bridge. At least we quit running in December so it won't affect operations too much, but I can't say I'll look forward to being in the pit mid winter. Hope we get a mild season this year.

   Jeff- great news (or at least adequate) on the prostate issue. Get the PSA test yearly like the rest of us geezers and lets hope for the best. Your good attitude has got to help a lot.

   Back to work - another detour yesterday as we found the rollover bar on the 7 was unsafe (bad welds disguised with bondo) and had to cut most of it out and start over. At least this way we can sleep at night. CUL,J.R.

Hey Neal, thats a real nice offer.  I was going to do much the same thing, though I don't know how many kits I was going to do it with.  I've got some that don't have the astronomical value that others do, so I was going to round those up.  It's just that most of my kits are collectors items because of their age (40 + years old) or they are museum quality kits from around the world.  A lot of them require a high skill level to complete too.  For example, have you ever tried lacing your own wire wheels?  Probably not something a kid would be real into.  Anyways, Ryan, now you have two avenues to follow!

Howdy folks!

Jeff, you truly are an inspiration to all of us! Congratulations on getting some work your way! I admire your zeal for life and your tenacity in dealing with problems head on. I cannot say I have had the same experiences in my life as you, of course, we are all different, and that is what makes life so great!  I thank the good lord for every day I have breath in my lungs, and I can see another sunrise in the morning!

But I can tell you that very early on in my life I used to stutter, I could hardly spit out two or three words without stumbling and tongue twisting. I also had a learning disability as well, I could not read very well and I wore special eye glasses to read. After about three years of therapy from first through fourth grade I finally broke out of the stuttering and did not need reading glasses any more. I also eventually became a straight ‘A’ student.

I am not trying to toot my own horn, nor am I trying to start a pity party, I just wanted to share a small slice of my life that only a few people know about my past.

I count my blessings everyday and you guys here in the Coffee Shop have been included as a part of my blessings over the past few years that I have known you all!

Inch, looking forward to seeing the Santa outfit too! I know what you mean about kid hyped up on sugar, good luck with that!

Probably not, at those $$'s it would eat up what we have already put away for the budget. Thought it would be neat though anyway, let us know when you decide to put them up for auction.

Things like:

What kinds of cars are you interested in? (Muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods, old cars, new cars, etc.)

What skill level are you needing?

Do you want a prepainted body or do you want to do some painting?

Stuff like that.

Maybe we can work something out.

PC and Neal: WOW! You guys are just amazing! I will send you both emails soon and we can make a deal. I am not really up on all the different kinds of cars, but I know Ben likes the old 1950’s Chevy’s. I am partial to the Pontiac Firebird from the 1970’s. It will be a surprise for Ben because he has no idea. I always like to give surprise gifts for Christmas, because playing Santa is so much fun. I enjoy the giving spirit of Christmas more than the receiving. You guys just turned up my giving sprit a couple of notches! Thanks!

Good morning everyone, it is raining and getting colder this morning with temp at 40.2F at the moment. It is snowing just a few miles west and north of here, but that won't last long as the cold front is moving east fast. The 60's are gone for now, and maybe until next spring.
This morning, we have to head over to AAA to get our passport pictures taken and apply for passports. In order to enter Canada or Mexico, we will need Passports now as of 2007. We visit Canada occasionally, so this is a must do.

JEFF: Good news of the job, that is good money, now you can buy that Digital camera that you deserve.

RYAN: I am glad that you shared your early life story with us. I never look at those things that CS members share as "tooting their own horn". It helps people to share on both ends, both the sharer and the receiver, we are all in the same boat, just another seat with a different paddle.

MIKE: So glad to hear that DIL is doing better, I am sure that the trach will be removed soon, as she regains her strength. I imagine your son is winning all the "discussions" in the house lately? LOL. But she will get even I'm sure.

DER JOHN: Got all your wood into the shed yet? Cold weather is just about here now, crank up the woodburner tonight!

Well hello everyone again. It's been sometime since I've stopped by. Haven't had a lot of time to do much of anything regarding my trains. Busy all summer working during the day and playing baseball at night. Back down at school now and trying to get back on track with the trains and most importantly my academic career. Been a busy person so I'm hoping to be able to stop by every once in awhile and ask a couple questions and learn some more.

Also looking for any websites for people's modern day layouts. If you have links with pictures that'd be awesome. Let me know somehow.

Hi Dick , I've been around it's been a long year, major reno's at the store over the summer so other than the time I took off to meet up with Der when he was in province, I've been a workaholic. I have been spending most of my forum time over at Tom's place on the Classic trains side, bit slower pace. I'll pop by now in then though.

Inch- looks like you had quite the ole housefull.It was good to see thecrowds at the musuem , at times it was standing room only on the cars, and we had four of them running steady up and down all evening long.

Hawks, good to see you here again! I'd been kind of wondering where you had wandered off too, although I figured school had something to do with it (and I can understand that!). I assume you are still going to school in LaCrosse? Have you had much of a chance to do some railfanning? I envy you getting to live up in that neck of the woods all right. I've made a few railfanning trips up to LaCrosse lately, and with the amount of trains and the awesome scenery you've got up there, especially on the BNSF down near Genoa and Stoddard, it's a great place to be a railfan.

Very busy, a lot of plywood being cut, around 50 4 x 8 sheets, and that's just a start. Spent the afternoon making patterns for tommy targets. I had an episode today in which I became extremely dizzy and almost passed out. I had to take it easy after that. I won't be on much longer today. I'm in a lot of pain and must get some rest. PC:I wasn't trying to encroach on you with the models, but I see a way that I don't have to move them. Actually I wasn't going to move them, but give them to whoever wanted them. I would rather give them to someone that would appreciate them. If I see were someone in the CS is looking for something and I have it I will make them the same deal, and that I promise. I hope you understand and that there are no hard feelings toward me.

Survived Halloween all right - not nearly as many go out around here anymore

…Same with us (4 out of a budgeted for 8).  It seems general, our neighbours down the hill got 18 out of the 30 they were expecting, and in the Harbour 78 as against the 120 or so last year.  Interesting that the ratio there is in the same ball park.

Thanks for the workshop photo, that’s really interesting, and put a “face” on the cars you write about!

…Yes to both, but buildings mostly, some minor rolling stock, and the very occasional and not very good loco shell.  Scott’s your man for locos.  What did you have in mind?

 

Jeff: That is great news about your test results! Praise God!  It must be huge weight off your shoulders.

 

The furniture project is slowly coming along; at the sub-assemblies stage right now, and the design is getting refined “on the fly”. (hopefully not this fly…. )

 

Time to turn in…

Off to town again tomorrow.  May get to a LHS and see if Atlas have delivered an order of freight trucks yet.

I'm finshing up trackwork on foam world after the wreck...

 

It all started at 3:00, when suddenly 4449's tender coupler snapped and the frieght cars behind it stopped. The driver was a little spacy today, and didn't notice. Strangely, the train went around and hit it from the rear at 70 MPH. All 7 freight cars flew off the tracks. Strangely, the daylight jumped the tracks and smashed smackdab in the station, and instead of going thru the wall, it shoved the building across the ground...

Good Moring All,

   Chilly and overcast this morning - in other words Autumn. Lucs' coffee willl taste mighty good this morning.

   Jeff - easy does it. It's easy to over do it after a spell off work. With 50 4' x 8' ply sheets I thought maybe you had received an order from DerJohn for bulk bench seat replacements. When you lay the top coat on your empire have you thought of adding fine sand or even dried dirt to the mix to give it extra texture? I don't know what the long term effect will be, but I've been adding sine sand and even ballast sweepings along with some sculptamold and latex paint to the plaster base in the new areas. Seems to work out ok and I don't have to use as much ground cover to get a good result.Thought it might even be worth it to try a little concrete mix with the plaster to get more gritty dirt since our major crop in New England is rocks.

   Der - glad the furniture project is coming along ok. I enjoy working with wood and did a bunch of  permanent installs when we moved into our house. The missus has since specified movable bits and since she was a famous stripper (no no of furniture not that other type) we have mostly restored pieces rather than built new. With the kids moving out one by one we can now think about redoing the battle scarred survivors but I've been procrastinating until I get further along with my basement empire.

   Hope everyones feeling better recovering from sinus headaches and such.Luc - how is Gloe doing? And with Trolley Rob reappearing maybe we can all get on the streetcar in Ontario and go see Fergie. And Hoople that's a good attitude to have. It's true you can't win them all and it's ok so long as you keep trying right up to the final whistle.

Another cold start 20, heading sunny day here, highs in the 40's, lite SW wind.
Talked the the DIL last night and they had put Becky back on the high oxygen. Becks blood gasses wereto low. The plan is now to take the machine off during the day and back on of a night. Her lungs are to weak right now to do every thing on their own.

Seeing me in a SANTA suit is not going to happen folks. I hate christmas, not for what it stands for, but for what it's become. I mean xmas in July and and xmas stuff on the store selves in Aug, and the adds almost straight out saying "if you don't buy this or that, you don't luve your kids". I'd better get of this soap box, before I get into trouble here too.
