Hi Guys,

Hi Zoe. I like the tan. I'll have a ginger ale if you don't mind.

Glad to see you're all here. I'm glad to see I got logged in correctly. I'm still alive and kicking, though in Norfolk VA rather than Huntsville AL. I'm interviewing for a new job tomorrow, with Old Dominion University.

Miae and Jamie are doing fine and hoping to move to Norfolk. Railroading has taken a back seat during the summer but if I get this job I'll have to spend a good bit of time here so I think I'll start a modular railroad.

It's good to see all you fellas again. I'll try to be more regular now that things might be settling down.

KJ

Hi, guys, thought I'd drop in and make sure I could find my way around after the remodeling.

The basement cleanup is going slower than expected but it is going.  At least I managed to use it as an excuse to get some new tools.  Picked up a ten cubic foot trailer for my lawn tractor to haul garbage out of the basement, and a reciprocating saw to make the job easier.  I've wanted both for some time but wasn't sure I could justify the expense.

Looks like the face lift has encouraged a few folks who haven't visited for a while to stop in and look around.  Good to see you again KJ, Noah, and anyone I may have missed.

Okay, enough for now, let's see if this posts without any problems.Shock [:O]

Well hello everyone.  It has been a real long time.  Zoe, I'll have a tall glass of ice water.  It's hot and dry here in east central Alabama.  I see I am not the only one that re-appeared when the new site debuted.  I have missed talking with all of you, but I have been busy with other tasks that I will not bore any of you with at the moment.  I'll get everyone up to date when we all have a little more time.

The new site looks great.  I have not looked at all the new stuff, but I like what I've seen so far.

KenM

I hope you get that job in Va.  I hate to see a fellow MRR leave the great state of Alabama, but I guess it will be Virginia's gain.

It's getting late, I better go check on Gman before he goes to sleep.  I'll try not to be such a stranger anymore.

Hi again, Chloe! Just a quick stop, so nothing for me right now. Besides, I already hit up Noah earlier. Smile [:)]

Figured (after getting a question or two, and having had some when I first tried to post in the N&I CS (new and improved...) that I'd post what I've found out so far:

To post, just click on any message's REPLY button first.
Then, you should have a text entry box for your post.
Above that, you will have five pull-down menus - Size, Font, Color (of text), Highlight, and Insert Smiley. Not sure yet what the Highlight does - I may try playing with it on another post, or someone else can post and tell us how that works.
Plus, below that are buttons for B(old), I(talic), U(nderline), Indent, 'Outdent', Bullet list, Numbered list, Create link, and Remove (all formatting), which I think are like under the previous system software.

I've found that most (if not all) of the Smilies are the same codes we are familiar with under the 'old' software, but the Size just visibly changes the size (doesn't put any code in that you see).

For coloring names, I just type in (or cut and paste) the names with the rest of the text. Then I select each name and pull-down the color I want it to be - Dark green, Red, Navy blue, etc. It appears we have more color choices for text than with the old system. Takes a little time, but you don't have the familiar (for some of us) 'dangling bracket' we would get when we left the first or last one out. Hopefully, the new software won't give us those puzzling posts I and others had where we couldn't find what was causing the problem... Wink [;)]

Hope that helps some of you with the new learning curve. And kudos to Duke for his help in getting me started figuring things out. Oh, by the way - it's not on the Smilies menu, but we do still have the [bow ]
Bow [bow] smilie.

Blessings and a good evening to all,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well all -

Since JimCG told me how to reply, I figured I might as well do so and let everyone know I am alive, safe and sound. I had my 35th b'day yesterday. Nothing fancy other than 5 phonecalls for wishes from the wife, the boss, the parents, the step-son, and finally from my bro and his soon-to-be bride.

I'm pulling 'duty' tonight for the fire dept. till 6am, that is why I am on this late. We got a gully washer today, courtesy of Mother Nature. Some surrounding suburbs are reporting up to 7" today from 5am to 8pm.with most of it falling between noon and 6pm. Had to go on a 'dryer' fire to a neighboring district. We were 1 block from the scene when they 'canceled' us. So, we headed back to the firehouse and hung out till 11 when we are able to go home for the rest of the duty shift.

Well, not much new on the MRR front, other than this redesigned site. It will take me a few days to get used to it.

On the homefront, I got High Speed Internet today. Man what a difference compared to dial up service.

Ok, time for me to get going.

Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. Hope this works, still trying to jump through hoops to get all this working. Looks like some of the old forum code did not translate well into the new setup. Oh well!

Hey, the CS looks brand spanking new, huh! Even the coffee tastes better too!

So.... lets see...... going to try out some of these new nifty features.

I tried to post a few minutes ago and the CS was locked... oh well.  maybe there's still a glitch here and there.

Ryan,  your highlighting doesn't show up in the forum post, but when i clicked on quote, it does show up highlighted in my reply.  something doesn't seem to be working right.  i wonder... could this be a browser issue???

well., what do you know... it seems to work fine with IE, but not with Netscape... and only in the edit mode, not the preview mode nor once posted

OHH OH, Cape Jim, I do not have any drop down boxes to choose font etc. I have the Subject box, the Message box , and the replied to message above grayed out, and the Post and Preview below the message area, but that is it. Now here is the "possible " problem. I am Beta testing the new Microsoft VISTA home edition, Beta version 2. I think I had better notify Bergie, because when VISTA hits the market in January ( scheduled), there could be some compatibility problems.

Hi! all

Well Gloria is resting so I'm taking a quick break from my chores...

Fist a big welcome to all the new comers, I've missed so many of you and  apololize.  This is a fun place and I hope you'll drop in often.

OK, so it is good morning to all.  The good news is that I can drop in from time to time while Gloria recovers, a long and fustrating road ahead, the bad news is the Gloetown has to take a back seat for now.

Break over, Hope you'll all have a great day.

Happy MRRing.

Glad to see that I haven’t been run out of the shop yet at least, so people must still like me somewhat Wink [;)]

Greyfox, I only made off with a few things this year from the show, there weren’t as many “good deal” dealers there this year as in past years. There weren’t as many layouts either, there was actually a lot of dead space that they could have filled up if they had tried. Having been to three National Train Shows before I was kind of disappointed in how this one was done. I still am glad I went, but it just wasn’t as good as past years. I did pick up a magazine I had been looking for on the Wisconsin and Southern, a Refrigerated boxcar, and a car for Davies Steel from the NMRA (Dean Fraytag’s layout). I would have picked up a V&O car and a Alleghany Midland car, but they were sold out in HO already. Oh well.

I kinda like the new format, although I miss the “quick reply box” at the bottom of each page. It always saved me loading an extra page, which can be important on my slow dial up. We may have to start a petition to get that feature back.....

Well guys, I’ve got some other stuff to get to today, but I’ll get back to the shop a little later. For now I’ll just take a cappuccino to go.

Well hello all.

Just made it back in town and got myself logged back in.  I see it is going to take a little getting use to the new format but I think it will work out.  I am really surprised that they managed to save to old data. Trust me, that was not an option a few years ago.

Hope all of you are doing well.  When I get a chance I will post some new pics that I think some of you are really going to enjoy.

As promised, some pictures.  I had a long latover in Grand Forks, ND or as we call it - El Forko Grande.  So to kill time I gave railfanning a try.  Let me know what you think.

First, some pictures from my office window.

As I was walking to the yard, this passed in front of me.

Finally, made it to the yard...

Edited to remove pictures after many complaints.  If this is still too much I will delete the post.

Hope every ones doing well or at least improving. Hot n humid here, we got some rain last evening which has made things worst, sure was good for the crops though.
Having some problems with this new stuff, I can't get words to copy/paste in here now. May do some extra reading laters today and see what I'm doing wrong, haven't tried any pics yet.

KJ, hope the job works out for you

AttaBoy, a new project is always a good reason to get new toys [I mean tools]

JP, Happy B-Day [bday], sorry it's late, but I over looked it.

Luct, we've still got you n Gloria in our thoughts. Know what ya mean bout the layout taking the back seat, mine seems to be there alot.

Yea, PC, it took me awhile to figure it out too! I ended up clicking on the subscriber button and then added my personal info then it found my old forum profile ID, then I added the password and it took. Finally!

Sometimes the page loads in a flash, and then other times it stalls and takes about a minute to load. Inconsistent at this time it seems bugs need working out still...

For those photos...about 14,000ft.  The camera I was using doesn't get good ground pics after 17,000ft.  Usually my "office" is somewhere between 32,000 to 35,000ft high.

Chuck and Kathy You two take care and don’t push it too muchAngel [angel]Angel [angel]

JP Happy B-Day [bday]

Gumby  Nice pics and I like the ones of the yard where they show the ladder

Grayfox (wouldn't let me use your name) I didn’t buy anything at the showSad [:(] but I did decided which DCC system and track I will be using. Big Smile [:D]

I haven’t been to one of these shows before but I will agree with Noah that I was disappointed that there weren’t more vendors. I also didn’t get any show specials of a couple things because they were the manufacture and you need to go to your LHS or online and I don’t have a problem with supporting my LHS.

That’s about it
