Well, I have been playing with trains 'bout 20 years.

Primarily I am into O ga and converting a car at a time to 1:48 scale .

Like wise this spring, I decided to have a two gauge shelf layout in a spare bed room, my first in this house.

I acquired a mixed bag of HO from ebay, shows and my local hobby shop.

The idea is a coal and lumber operation.

I like best kit bashing structures and cars.

I get around ok but I am disabled Vet, I have had two livers and one kidney transplant.

Not much about me to say I guess. I like to fish on the OBX in NC.

I belong to the NCBBA 8863

OBPA

Hatteras Anglers Club 1120

A few years ago I lost hundreds of pieces of great train stuff in a flood, had it in a storage locker. Some piece were almost, now , 100 years old, Marx, AF, Bing , Lionel and standard gauge, G gauge but I rescued a HO Shay and I am build ing a lay out around that.

I dont type or spell well so bear with me. I am over medicated.

I am 54 and did I mention I fish a little? :D

My pics wont show here, the loader isnt compatable but on my Blog you can see them..

These look better to the eye than to the lens.

http://bubbagilsplace.proboards60.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=hobby&thread=1151422567&page=1

You can see more here. I was packing it up and laid it all out for some pics.

I try to make a new building each week or a new flat or hopper.

Thanks,
Steve

Evening all, I’m ready for a boilermaker, but I’ll just have a coffee instead, grandkids bout to drive me nuts tonight.
My family re-union was good, plenty of food, and cousins we hadn’t seen for awhile. One thing I always hate about re-unions anymore is who’s passed in the last year; the best is [beside the food] is the new ones born into this bunch, and there was a few and some by marriage also.

Paul , hows your retirement practice going.

RT , good to hear from you. I was getting a little worried, how things going.

Steve Frame , Welcome to the CS, have a cup on me. I’m a feller HO’er and a Vet. There’s several of us round here, and I fish some, when I get a chance.

Well the @#$ phone just woke KC up, and she wants grandpa [she started saying pa pa today] and nobody else. See ya’ll in the morn and catch up on the rest.

Steve-[#welcome] Welcome aboard. Name your poison. Coffee , tea.or whatever. All modelers are welcome and Vets, doubley so.
As long as we can get the gist of what you print, don't worry about the spelling. Only thing we do NOT like is flaming.
Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a good start. Sorry to read about your loss in the flood and of your med. troubles. You have a lot of company in the C.S..
Love your gif and lol when I saw the cartoon about the convict. [:)][:)]

Good Evening All,
End of the day and time for a nice glass of red wine. Half a day at work and the rest doing chores so with luck I can get some hours in on the 1:1 DL701 at the museum tomorrow.

Welcome - Steve - hope you like it here it's a good place to hang out and sometimes we even talk about trains and model railroads.Like Inch, I'm a vet (Navy) and I have a year on you at 55.

Inch - I sympathise with you - darned phones and other stuff and then you get to spend time trying to get the lil one back to sleep. Used to drive me nuts with the kids. No grand kids yet so no worries there yet.
In between cleaning and such got some licks in on the layout. Still marking out track and figuring building locations but most of the foam is in place. I just keep picking at it as the plans and reality don't seem to me***hat well and i end up improvising things.
All for now time to hit the hay and rest up for the next one. CUL, [:D] J.R.

Hi Gang: I'm getting some more practice in on the retirement. I got home and took a nice nap for about 2 hours. I am feeling pretty good now, not worn out.

Welcome Steve: Have a cup on me and set awhile. Is that the shay that you saved in the photo? It looks pretty good. I also see what looks like an Enfield over the mantle. Am I right? I've done some muzzle loading shooting myself. It sounds like you have been through the ringer for sure. I'm a Viet Nam vet. I have a 40% disabilty from diabetis, high blood presure, and bad hearing. Really minor things when compared to yours. I flew helicopters over there. Again welcome. By the way, that's a great cartoon.

I'm really unhappy with the Norton 2006. The computer is slower and I keep getting update attempts from Microsoft. The last time I had an update from Microsoft it took a visit from my buddy the computer guru. I may end up having to get some profisional help. For the computer and myself.

Well I'm going to head for bed. I hope that everyone has a good night and I'll see you all tomorrow.

HI all. Just popped in for a moment to say Hi. I used to be on here as CNWfan5525 but i changed my username. I model Norfolk Southern in N scale. Just starting a decent sized N scale layout roughly 10x12. And i wanted to say, I don't think the subscriber only thing is a good Idea. If I didn't read the newswire i wouldn't know what was going on, and now they're taking it away from me...I'll try to get my friend to forward it to me maybe....

Hey guys and gals. I've found time to stop by. I've been busy moving into my new house. Sadly, it's not near the railroad. This will provide me with a desire to go railfanning, which it has already.

I must say I like the new look. There are probably many new members here. Hello to all of you newbies.

I'll have an ice cold classic coke, please. Put it on whoever's paying this page.

How has everyone been? It has been hectic here for me. My mom had a quadruple bypass on the 26th of June. And, her and my dad's been in and out of the hospital several times.

Well, i guess I'll go. Hope to chat again with you all real soon.

Until then, Rob

P.S. Yes, I still love trains, and am still planning to build a layout, oneday.

Hi guys! Not much goin' on here.

Hi Chloe! Hey, could I just get a Moxie? Thanks!

Hey Steve, glad you stopped by!

All,
Hey, check this out. I went out to check the mail this mornin' and there was something from Uncle Sam in there addressed to me. Figuring this might be important I opened it right there on the spot. It was important! Seems that our U.S. government has decided in their ultimate wisdom that students how get what they deem are really good grades in collage should be rewarded for their hard work (or some such nonsense). They sent me a check for 5,333.00!!!!!! Man, I couldn't get to the bank fast enough! That will come in handy when we move in a couple of months!

Speaking of moving,......the lot next to our's has sold and the people are building a ranch. That's cool because since we have a two story going up that means we won't have our view blocked at all on the second story!

Oh, and then this evening at church the dean of a local seminary collage approached me and said he'd heard of my grades and wanted to know if I'd be interested in going to collage at his school! I told him that the school I'm at now doesn't offer a Masters Degree program, and since his does, I might be interested once I finish up my Bachelor of Science Degree program in 6 or 8 months.

OK, maybe I lied when I started this post and I said there wasn't much going on. Guess I'm keepin' busy after all!

Prayers for all in need (that's you and the wife too LUC).

Later all!
Philip

Rob: Good to see you again. I hope that your folks are doing better. I'm sure that it's been a rough time for you all. To bad about leaving the vicinity of the RR. I guess you'll just have to travel abit now. Keep up the planning on that layout and let us know how it is doing.

PC: Since you seem to be blessed with the wind fall I'll have the Sampler breakfast, egges over easy, coffee and don't forget the sugar free jelly for those great biscutes.

Here I am again. In eight hours I can go home. I know that's a heck of an attitude. Any way it's almost time to check the maintanace log and see what has been messed up yesterday. Would you believe that the people they have running the steam train can't seem to catch on to the fact that the conpressor has to be given time to recharge the break line before the breaks will release?

I'll stop back in when the park is going .

Mornin all, Farmer special, OJ, n coffee please Janie
Going to be a hot one here, the humidity has started back up again. Nothin special planned for the day, other than the flea market first thing, then kids when I get back, and the normal Sunday stuff.

GMT , the phone call was for the 16 year old and now she’s in deep doodoo. We have a rule, no calls after 8:30 unless it’s important, her boyfriend wasn’t.
I did get KC back asleepin, had to lay down with her in our bed.

Steve ,I enjoyed the pics, especially the cartoon, that would be bout my luck. I didn’t think to mention that I’m a Nam vet also [AF] and am disabled, arthritis and breathing problems, but it’s nothing compared to yours, keep the faith

JAY , if I understand it rightly, we’ll still be able to use the forums ok, we just have to re-register to use them, I hope anyway. Good to hear from you again.

LilRob , good to hear from you sorry to hear of mom n dads troubles though, we’ll keep them in our thoughts.

PC , good news on the bonus cash, but if’en ya keeps getten the top, ya may not have any left for the move. Sounds like a good deal on the schooling later on.

Didn’t get in any rail fanning this past week, so I’ll post a video I got a couple weeks ago back at the campground

Didn’t get anytime in the train room yesterday, but hoping for some during Nascar this afternoon if the grandkids and the CFO leave me alone.

Hey! How'd that happen? Last night when I posted this it was at the bottom of the previous page,.....I LOOKED! I mean, I don't mind hookin' you guys up and all, but what's goin' on here?

Oh well! Guess the bill has my name on it, so,.......let's do it to it!

Hi Chloe! I'll have what Paul's having, 'cept make the eggs over hard please. Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to mention yesterday that I went out railfanning. I ran CSX's line out of Indianapolis all the way up to Anderson and I didn't see a single train! Just lots of empty rails! Oh well!

Think I'm just going to hang around the house today and do not much of anything! Daughter just got got home from her 4 day youth group concert at 4am this morning so she should be crashed out big time today, so she's down for the count! Maybe I'll see about going down to one of the railyards here in Indy and snaggin' some pics, I don't know.

Well, anyways, I'll catch up with you all later, K?

Bye!

We have an event to go to tonight, tomorrow is packing the suitcases, and Monday morning we’re off on out trip to Canada. Actually Monday we’re only off on the bus trip to Mexico City, where we will overnight for Tuesday morning’s flight.

I’m not sure how many opportunities I’ll have to log in during the trip, so I could easily be off line for 3 weeks. I’m sure you’ll find a way to survive.

Ken’s presentation for the NMRA convention looks dynamite. Great job. He posted the link to his presentation in another thread. Now that’s some modeling.

Anyway, I’ll still be checking in and reading posts today and tomorrow.

Hasta luego,

Ed

Ed: Have a great time! As I'm sure you will. And yes Ken's presentation is very well done and has given me an idea... possibly phase ll or lll. We'll just have to wait and see!

Well not much on the go, right now I'm packing as we head off to the North Shore for a week. And yes I have several kits packed.

Luc: Sorry to hear about Gloe, hopefully her problems will come to pass. Our family had another down turn on Lisa's side but this is slowly resolving itself. The Builder was in on friday with the final estimate and it looks like the addition will be a go come August.

And on a final note. I'll miss the grand opening of the new forum[:(]

HAVE FUN[:D]

That's right. The forum change will be that it will have new software and a new look. It may have a different number of forums. But access will still be free and open. You just have to reregister. That's common with most forums when they change over to new software.

What some people are upset about is that Kalmbach has a newswire service that informs about news related to railroads. Up to now this has been available free. But starting this week, that extra service will be available only to Trains Magazine subscribers.

So yeah, no change to the way the forums operate, although they will have a new look.

How's everybody?

Just a Moxie for me Chloe, Thanks!

Hey, I went out this morning to get some pics. After yesterdays dry spell (not one pic) I decided to hedge my bets! I stopped by Hawthorn Yard in Indianapolis. It's located here; http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=39.75555~-86.085358&style=h&lvl=15&scene=2393446 open the window all the way to see everything.

(These are really big pics, so I'm just going to give links and dial-up warnings, OK?)

Here's a small overview of the yards from Arlington Avenue. Here's the right side.....

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-7-900000.jpg

And the left side....

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-7-900003.jpg

Upon entering you find this.....

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-7-900013.jpg

Turn around and you're greeted by....

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-7-900014.jpg

They were just sitting there waiting their turn.....

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-7-900005.jpg

A coal drag was just heading out to the west.....

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-7-900004.jpg

So I headed across the parking lot to see what was going on over there. This is a small yard, so there wasn't a lot of activity, but I got a couple of decent shots......

Evenin all, just an ice tea dear,
Hope every one had a good day, the little ones left bout 2, so the rest of the afternoon wasn’t bad, even got some time in the train room and got a little bit more done on the creek n the hills. If I can keep going, may lay some more roadbed this week.

Fergie , Have a good trip, the best be to ya.

ED , thanks for the info, glad I was right on some thing.

PC , thanks for the pics, I think I know where that main yard is. I’ve been by there for some reason.

Kinda have an almost quiet week, I think there’s ball games tomorrow night [the last ones],. Wed. doc appointment at Danville VA and Mother has a fair board meeting that evening, Leroy n KC Thu. And I think Jussy, Mac and Major are coming Sat for 2 weeks.
Mother just holler suppers ready and we need to eat n get to West Union for Cindy’s Visitation. May stop in later for a cold one, if not guess I’ll see ya’ll in a couple day.

Who knows when they'll take the forums down, I'm thinking tomorrow morning early, but I suppose it could happen anytime. Decent timing for me as we're leaving tomorrow morning anyway.

Hold the fort while we're away. I'll try to log in and at least read what's going on, but I don't really know when I'll have access to a computer.

All the best,

Good Evening, and Chloe, I'd just like a cup of coffee and a nice hot fudge sundae. [dinner]

Hi, LilRob - sorry to hear about your family's problems. Will be saying [angel][angel] for them. Good to see you in the Shop again, though.

Inch, can I join you and LilRob there at the table? You in here on a break from riding herd over the young'uns? I would agree with that rule about no calls late in the evening (or too early in the a.m.). Wakes up your younger ones like J-Bird, I'm sure.

Wanted to pop in the Shop before things get reworked with the new forum setup. Well, hopefully with the new deal we will recognize all the smilies and such that we've become used to. Or, if not, we'll learn the new ones soon enough. But I'm sure some things (like PC hitting the top of pages) will stay about the same... [}:)][swg] (Just kidding, PC).

Better get done and move on out of here before Bergie and the work crew lock the door - otherwise, I might get locked in here and never get out! [;)]

Hope everyone survives our CS withdrawal for the next couple/few days, and I'll see you all on the other side of the changes.

Prayers for those of us with the health concerns (our own, CFO's, and/or other family members), and

Blessings,

Hi Gang: just a short one to say I'll miss you all the next couple of days. Maybe by then I'll have gotten this computer back to normal. It makes me mad that I spent $40 bucks for an anti-virus program and will have to disable it to get back to normal. Norton dosen't have a phone number for help. Just contact them on line. I'll stop talking about this so Bergie will let me back in on the new and improved forums. I hope that on the new forums posting pictures will be simpler.

I'm off for now so I'll see you all about late Wed or Thurs.

Just a cup of joe, Chloe. Thank you!

Well I'm good for another year. [:D] Words cannot describe how I dislike annual recurrent training.[V]

OBTW, [#welcome] Steve.

Be safe, have fun, see you all on Thursday.
