Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Sorry I haven’t been posting updates as I should have been. Just seems like there’s a lot of stuff going on. Retirement can really keep a guy busy, what with naps and all. [|)]

Been out to the orange grove a couple of times this week. We’re getting down to the short straws, orange-wise. But I think we’ve got enough to last until the end of the month anyway.

Fran and I have suddenly become very active with golf, playing 5 times in the last 9 days. Just 9 holes each time, but walking and playing in this heat, nine holes is enough. Then back home for some time in the a/c, lunch, and a nap (of course). [;)]

On our last trip NOB I bought a Model Power Mikado and a Model Power Pacific, both from the new run with traction tires factory installed. Unfortunately, both have an unpleasant habit of climbing over the outside rail on my 9-3/4” curves. I’m working with the Pacific now to see if there’s anything obviously wrong, but that stuff is pretty small to troubleshoot. I’d hate for them to just have to sit in their boxes.

QUOTE: )CG)Jim: …our local library had a book (and magazine) sale tonight. They have ‘em once a year (maybe twice - this is the first time I went to one), and I found out that’s where they dispose of the older magazines - like Model Railroader(!) I got all of the 2004 MR issues for $1.50…

Now that’s a real bargain. You ought to see if you can negotiate a deal with them to take 2005 off their hands when they’re ready to dump them, and avoid the chance that someone will snap them up in the next sale.

*** and JP – yeah, really enjoyed last night’s game. The boys haven’t been doing too badly as of late. I really like the new defense. Now if only Ortiz and Varitek would start to hit, we’d be just fine. We’ll see how they do tonight. Down 1-0 now, but it’s still early.

Luc – good to see you posting, but bad news about all the surgeries coming your family’s way. Best of luck.

I’ll probably drop in later,

Hasta luego,

Ed

Ed: Golf? That's the anti-christ of model railroading. Be careful that you arn't sucked into the dark side. Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the new power. I have the advantage of being close enough to the sellor that we can meet and work it out.

Inch: I'd say the crew needs the first course. I don't worry about things there anymore unless it's my rice bowl.

I got to the train meet but never did get to run or ride. We ate supper about 6pm and by the time that I ate and got a plate for Mary Ann I was too tired to stay around. I came home and we doctored the calf and I was ready for bed. Mary Ann expected me to go back to the meet but I'm too pooped and 4am comes early.

Good Night All

Made it back from the zoo and WOW!!!!!! They did a great job on the new digs for the cats. Two years without them and it was worth it. Plus, a little railranning too as the Amtrak station is but a few yards away.

Here are some pictures:

First from Big Cat Falls

Not many other animals out yet but here are a few more...

Inch53 - What happened at the Cubs/Sox game?? What happened in sports, period? Bonds gets 714?? Boo [:(!] Cubs/Sox reha***he Civil War [:0] Then the Preakness?? That just mage me sick.

My son's baseball team won. At least there was one bright spot in sports.

Luct - I'll be praying for you.

Ed - Step away from the golf clubs and seek help before they take over.[;)]

Good Evening, Janie - I’ll have a decaff and one of those chocolate donuts that Bill T. brought in, please. One in that 3rd row from the left there - [dinner] [yeah] I’ll pay for it, since Paul has that vet’s bill to manage (and we know what medical expenses have been doing the past few years - even for animals!).

Chuck - maybe you can run a low-voltage wire or two along the top of the bridge/trestle while you’re reinforcing it. Just a little something to inhibit ‘Junior’ from parking his furry bottom on the trestle. [}:)][:O] (Just kidding, any ASPCA monitors who might be reading this...) Glad that Kathy’s back home and feeling some better now. Hopefully, you two might get a rainy day or so that you could work in the RR room soon - but not too much!

Inch, it seems that the LHS's that are stocked to the gills (so to speak) usually have the best sale bins, too. [:)] I’ll just say that our pastor loves to razz about the Cubbies and their fans. So in answer to your ‘question’, I’d be putting my money on the White Sox...[:-^][:-^][:-^]

Yeah, Paul, I know what you’ll be doing on your day off - getting ingredients for a coyote stew! [;)] Sounds like your calf must have been one heck of a fighter, to kick off a coyote or dog with no more damage than the one leg.

Luc, take care of yourself - anyone I know of who’s had one of those slipped disks doesn’t have anything good to say about it (unless the pain finally goes away after much doctoring and surgery). Hopefully you’ll get a good date and time for Glo’s operation - will be keeping you both in my [angel][angel][angel]. Can you get a twofer special if you have them both on the same day? [:O] (just kidding - I wouldn't wi***hat on anyone) You do have someone to help you out after each other’s surgery, I hope. Don’t try to be pushing your own recovery too quick after your surgery. Take the time for you and Glo both, so you get fully healed from those surgeries.

Gumby - have a good time at the zoo, but no feeding the animals (no matter how much one of your family members might be a pain in the ****). [:O] That ‘season pass’ with the membership sounds like a good deal. Nice photos of the animals - those cats lying around made me think of Ed for some reason... [swg] [(-D]

Ed - sounds like you and Fran definitely have the life of leisure! Golf in the a.m., air conditioned nap in the afternoon... [swg] Oh, about the 2005 MR issues, I think I already have all of them. Now if the library’d had the 2003 issues, I would’ve bought those too. There’re some of the Roque Bluffs (Iain Rice) layout series, that started in the 2003 MR’s (October, I think?) and ran through May 2004.

RT - sorry to hear about that buyer who tried to gouge you for more. Hopefully the authorities will put a crimp in her plans.

Well, Janie, looks like the rest of the crew went to bed before me tonight (or they’re out somewhere else - working on their RR’s, or just painting the town? [;)] Guess I’ll rinse out my cup and set it on the shelf. I’ll see everyone tomorrow, perhaps, after they wake up. [}:)][;)]

Blessings,

Mornin all, Coffee Janie please,
Sunny here, looking for a high in the 70’s,and light wind. Grounds drying quick, with luck and I get the tiller running, I can started on the garden in a couple days. The farmers need dry weather bad, guess only 20% corn and 8% of the beans are planted in the county. What is planted has been hurt by the cold n rain, glad I’m not farming anymore.

ED , Hope you get your engines lined out. I had one that was doing the same thing. I replaced the factory tires with some replacements I had and it worked fine, think the originals were to big.

RT , don’t care for people who pull that. The hardware store that was here in town would do that stuff. Send out a sell flier and when you went in there, wouldn’t sell it for the ad price. He went out of business, not to long after he started that.

Gumby , thanks for the animal pics. Did you get any train shot’s at the station.
Didn’t see the Preakness, at the weddin when it went off, who one. Sure be glad when the 2 best get off the injured list, maybe they can start winning again.

Jim CG , Joe doesn’t have enough room for a sale been, but he’s been known to make some good deals. I got an Athrean engine last year, $25 off the marked price
CUB’s fans could be described as Optimistic/ Pessimist, I guess. Always has hope, but never is too disappointed.

Got one pic for today. I finally got a good shot of the SP that comes through here. Caught her W bound on the passing track.

Not much of anything planned for the day, other than some time in the train room, and odds n ends around the house.
Hope everyone has a good day, prayers for all [including the Cubs].

Morning All: I'm here at work again. I just got in from turning on the park. I had to fix the steam enging in gold river this morning. The mount for the electric motor that runs it came loose and the chain came off. That took about an hour by the time I got the stuff together to do the job. I also had to replace one of the gold bags in the gold room. Some one managed to snatch it and take it with them. Always some thing.

The train meet is over except for a couple of stragglers. I will stop by there after work and if anyone is still running I may get a ride. John was going to fire up my locomotive this morning. We need to check it on steam to be sure that the stuff we worked on is all right. Any time you take parts off and put them back on you check for leaks first on air and then on steam. Some times no leaks on air but with the heat and of the fire things open up.

Break is over so I'll head out. This is awfully close to the bottom of the page. Her's hoping that I don't start the next one. I'll check in later and for sure before I go to bed.

Good afternoon, CS Crew - Zoe, a cup of coffee please. [:)]

We had some rain this morning (just enough for that off-and-on setting on the car wipers), but it has quit now. For lunch, I went to a local Mexican restaurant (says on their menus that they're "family owned and operated", but I didn't see if they meant Mexican or other kind of "family"... I'll guess Mexican and hope they're not related to Vito and Vinnie here. [:O] Had the chicken burrito grande, which was pretty good - but not as good as your food here, Zoe, of course! Whew! Hope Vito and Vinnie weren't in earshot about that 'family' thing...)

Saw that some other nice buildings on eBay (like the one I mentioned earlier that I won) didn't sell and are relisted. The price might be a fair bargain (since the original hydrocal-cast models run into the $80-150 range), but they're just too rich for my blood. I'm not that sophisticated, I suppose. Maybe others aren't either, judging from the other items that were relisted (some were plastic/injection-molded versions and some were hydrocal) and originally listed with higher starting prices (like as much as $82.00).

Flip, must be the grey hair...[}:)][:-^][:-^]

Well, I'm hoping to get some MRR club work done this afternoon (the diner I've been procrastinating getting done...), so I'd better go. May the rains let up on you all (or at least move to the Left Coast [swg] and water Chuck & Kathy's lawn. - or do you two have a garden, too?). Besides, you know if it rains on the lawn, you'll just have to mow it sooner, right? [}:)] [;)] Well, I'm heading out, Zoe. I took a shower - can't figure out why nobody's here besides you gals when I come in here. [?]

Blessings,

No train pics because the trains would pass by before I could get in position for a good shot. But the day will come when I'll get the good picture.

The Preakness winner was Bernardini. The King of Dubai owns him. Could have won whether or not Barbaro got hurt. Just heard on the local news that Barbaro's chances are slim. Three fractures and lots of soft tissue damage. Still in surgery!! (hour #3) If he wasn't the Derby winner I sure he would have been put down by now.

I guess I'm not the normal ex-Chicagoian, I'm a White Sox fan. Probably because Jack Brickhouse turned me off to the Cubs. On the other hand, Harry Carey and Jimmy Piersall made a losing team fun to watch.

Evening all

Had a nice ride today but a little on the cool side,48-50 degrees with a good stiff NW wind at about 25mph. It was all back roads and most of the time with a tree line to help break the wind. We went up to Durand for train days but there weren’t any trains,I think it has turned into a carnival and that’s it. There is a good restaurant there and I had a steak sandwich,so Chloe how about one of those big Rootbeer floats for desert, please.

Ed One of the guys that I ride with went to Branson for vacation and they stopped at the Museum of Trans. in St. Louis and they have a Big Boy as well. He said he was able to get up close to it and you could also get up in the cab. I told him that you were able to get up close to one as well and I was a little jealous of the two of you.

Well that’s about it and best to all that are on sick call[angel][angel][angel]

Paul I think this page will be on me and PC gets a reprieve as well.

Talk to you later

I'll have a shot of Nyquil please Chloe. Yup, you guessed it, I'm sick. Oh, and put the Nyquil on Duke's tab. (Hey, even sick as a dog, I've still got it!)

Man, I get sick and go away for a couple of days, and WW3 breaks out in the big room! What's all the fuss about?

Oh, man, I don't feel so hot! I'm going to go lay back down!

Bye.

Evening all, coffe Janie,
plans got change for the day, #1 son called and wanted us to go for breakfast[ he was buying] in Terre Haute, of course we said yes. Mother wanted to go to the mall afterwards, which didn't open for another hour, so we went rail fanning. Here's some of the pics we got, caught this E. bound just W. of the Wabash river bridge[Prr].

This of the E. of of NYC river bridge, a couple hundred yards N.

Got plenty more to post later

Paul , hope the pressure test go Ok with engine the first time.

Gumby , heard bout Barbaro on the news. I think he’d made show, even if he didn’t win. Hope he makes it Ok, his offspring might of won the triple crown, if he didn’t.
I like the White Sox to for the AL, but have always favored the Cubs.

PC , Hope you get ta fellin betters soon. You’re more fun to pick on when you’re healthy

we had Kc n Leroy for awhile this afternoon, after they left we got Kc back. Leroy fell at home and had to have a couple staples in his head. He's OK now, just sore and a headache. Still trying for some train time today, think I'll get a little now. Prayers for all in need

Hi Gang: Not much since this afternoon. I found out that Terry McCauly's locomotive needs a new boiler. I'm going to talk to him tomorrow and see if he wants to build two, I'll buy the stuff. That's how we did the locomotives.

As for mine I need to get a new valve for the gauge glass. The one on it is leaking. I also am going to get a couple of new Kunkle safty valves and a spare injector. Only about $500 worth. No more 2-10-2s for awhile.

PC: Take it easy for a couple of days. Duke will take care of things for a while.

I finally got to ride today. I caught the last train and had a good ride. The only thing is we have got to do something about the seating arrangements. A 2x12 across the sides of a gondola is kind of uncomfortable on a long ride.

Well I think that I'll check my E-mail and go to bed.

Good Night All

Prayers, welcome etc to those who need, I’m way behind and little hope of reading everything

Not much going on in my life... pretty dull across the board. I did manage to catch an NS SD70M leading an empty hopper train long hood forward... stranger yet the third unit (another SD70M) was short-hood forward. (They were sandwiching a C40-9W by the way)

Good early morning all.

Coffee and a donut please!

Back off to work. Will be back on Thursday and then a bit of home time before the summer nightmare kicks in.[V]

This week I am going to overnight in New Orleans. I have flown in there many times since Katrina but this will be the first overnight. I sure it won't be fun. We only get 11 hours there and if it is anything like Gulfport the hotel, will be just one step above uninhabitable. Still, it should be interesting to see.

To be honest, I would not know what a Route 15 PCC was if it tapped me on the shoulder and said "Hi". [*^_^*] I will need to get back over to 30h Street and take some pictures providing it is allowed. Amtrak is still a bit jumping after 9/11. I don't think they mind me taking pictures of individual locos and cars but I sure there are some security stuff they would not like seen. The airlines and the FAA have had the same issues with people who take pictures of aircraft.

Well I'm off. Have a good week and God bless you all.

Mornin all, Coffee and a couple doughnuts, please Zoe,
Partly sunny today, high 70, NE wind, slite chance of a mornin shower, so it'll be chilly here in the woods. Got plenty to do today, just haven't figured out what to start with.

RT , glad your flea market went Ok.

Paul , glad you like the bridge. Next time we're over there and my legs aren't hurting, I plan on walking closer for some better pics of it and the PRR.

Got a notice from Rail Images, that I'm going to have to move all my pics over to TrainBoard. Here's the link for more info,

http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=77031

Don't understand all I raed yet, but it seems like it 's going to be a chore to move mine and figure out where they go.
Need to get started on mornin chores, got some pics to post later. Prayers for all

Mornin' all,

Slept most of the day yesterday.

Feeling a bit better today, but just to be safe, how about some OJ pleas Chloe, thanks!

So,....inch wants to pick on me, huh? Well bring it on! [:D] Even in my weakened state I've got you! [;)] BTW, I saw that Railimages thing. I just got a photobucket account set up about two weeks ago and I like it so much that I'm just going to go with that. Since you've got to move your pic's anyways, you might look into it. To get an idea of how it's set up you can click on the link in my signature and check it out.

RT,
I'd have sold it too, just so I didn't have to lug it home!

All,
Thanks for all the kind words and prayers. I'll be back on my feet in no time.

Gotta jet.........later!

Good Morning Coffee Shop! How ya’ll doing?

This past weekend I got the new gate built for the stairs to the deck going out to the fenced in area. Now we can let the dogs out there to do their business instead of running the neighborhood, it was a headache having to keep calling them back from two or three houses down the street.

We sat out on the back deck yesterday afternoon while I was tending to the BBQ, threw on a few homemade burgers, and did a lot of bird watching, the feeder attract the small birds like warblers, finches, sparrows, and an occasional red headed wood pecker. We also see many blue jays, cardinals, and black birds. I did see a few doves in the morning too. Fun to watch them get close, one mocking bird flew up to the deck rail, took one look at me and then flew off. Guess my ugly mug scared him off!

We went to the Wals-mart yesterday and ate lunch at the Blimpe, I had my Norfolk Southern t-shirt on and one of the counter workers asked me if I was a model railroader, go figure! So we talked and he mentioned that he belongs to one of the local clubs, and invited me to join them, they meet every other Wednesday night. I will have to check it out soon! He said they have three layouts, one in N, a double deck HO layout, and a modular HO layout for shows.

Looks like the weekend was busy on the forum, more than three pages added since my last post on Friday.

Good morning to all, I see that {blue] RYAN [/blue] just left the CS and left me two glazed doughnuts, thank you very much sir!! No word from the NS team this morning?

***, No problem! I like to share too! Plus my diet only permits that I eat only a few donuts in one sitting.

Ryan: As for the Tsunami's... It's quite the learning curve and I was able to print off both manuals but we're talking over 300 pages of Techie talk. So with the one system installed and programmed to a basic level I still have to get into the nitty gritty.

Fergie, Yea, the LHS owner told me about the 300 page manual, and that the sound mixer can be adjusted for each individual sound. Let us know how it goes with the configurations. Also, quite a to do list you got there, looks like much has been accomplished.

Ryan , I spent part of the night in the train room for snoring to loud, not for the other.
Think I might have enough for a couple 3 pies for here in the shop next week. Have to wait and catch Mother in a good mood.

Hey, Inch, I find that when sleeping on my side snoring disappears, also a good pair of ear plugs for the misses helps too. Looking forward to some rhubarb pie! Also, thanks for the joke of the day! LOL

PC, Nice track plans you got there! Glad to hear you are feeling better

Hey Duke, How you doing? Have a burger on me today!

Hello Noah, School finally coming to an end soon huh! Glad to hear from you, keep us posted on your rail fan adventures! Keep up the good work in school!

Yep, the beans are all gone. But I do have a few burgers left over from yesterday, help your self!

Gumby,
Yep, I was watching the Preakness and it really hurt to see Barbaro go down like that. I read an article that one of the bones was broken in 22 pieces, and that he made a da***o his feed bowl soon after the surgery.

Also, great photos from the zoo, thanks for sharing them here on the Coffee Shop! Looks like it was a lot of fun, I especially like the eagle photo, tall and proud!

Hey Flip,Glad to see you in the CS again, hope all is well with you!

Mikeygaw,Great NS action photos. I am looking to model NS action on my HO layout plan, just need to select the prototype area.

We just moved from New Orleans to Wake Forest, NC in January and the only thing we miss about it is our family. I had to make a second trip to the city to fini***he move and was only gone for 10 days before the final move. Within the first 45 minutes of being off the plane I wanted to leave. The place is depressing and still is in a lot of disrepair, at least half the population has still not returned. It doesn’t get much airplay on the news these days about the Katrina and Rita affected Gulf Coast region, but they are still in need of much reconstruction.

Thanks for the coffee and donuts Bill!

Cheers,

Ryan

JP, ED Great game last night, seeing that they are playing in National League park, they can't use Designated hitter, and Pitcher has to bat of course. So Papi played 1st base and made a heck of a stop in the very first inning, then later he really crushed a ball into the upper deck. And, Matt Clement actually got an infield hit, although they scored it an error, but it was a tough chance for the infielder. Yanks got beat by Texas, so that made it all the better, a fly ball over Johnny Damon's head in 9th ...YESSSSSSSS.

INCH53 Mike, we will definitely look you up when we head west. Next year, more than likely in June, we want to go to Scranton, PA to Steamtown, then to Strassburg RR Museum, then head west to Altoona to Horseshoe Curve. How far is it from Horseshoe Curve to your area?

See you guys later,

*** / Ed -
I think the best play for the weekend series w/ Philly was Beckett's outing in conjunction w/ his solo HR! 1st Red Sox pitcher since Sep 72 to hit a HR!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
