Sure was!  Here's a different pic of the same loco.

Thanks for posting THAT! The 4290 series of geeps was one of my favorites back in the day... between the lower green band, the extra stacks, etc.; they really stood-out from the plain vanilla ex-RI geeps.

And....right back atcha, here's a different pic of the same loco...

Caught her working Beverly Yard in...'88, I think it was.

Good afternoon, cloudy, wet, and cool here. One round of rain gone...bigger storms likely this afternoon, especially East, SouthEast of here (Sterling, IL to Quad Cities line).

JimRCGMO
Chris, thanks for the info on the 'concrete' walls construction. Good luck with your trip down Dingleberry Road...(somebody definitely had a sense of humor when they named that one)Laugh

JIM: Apparently, way back when, the land was originally owned by a man named DinglebArry. Local history (i.e.: rumor) has it he had quite the distillery business going during prohibition. Somewhere/somehow, Dinglebarry became Dingleberry...much to the consternation of the guy that bought the land in 1980 and made an apple orchard out of it. Technically, it's located on Orchard Lane, but it's actually a part of Dingleberry. Will be taking the wife there this fall. Grant Wood would've loved the place...incredibly scenic, probably beyond incredible with all the fall colors. Real picture postcard stuff.

PHILLIP: Was that an ex-CNW geep I saw in the pic from the old elevator???

Time to grab some breakfast/lunch. Have to call up a park ranger this afternoon to pick his brain about some hired youth group doing paid volunteer work around the Coralville Resivor (sp.). I know it's six "kids" and a team leader, funded through some kind of grant.

A SAFE afternoon to all...

Gary, I just posted on the mortar topic, also. I had read - possibly in John Olson's (MR) Jerome & Southwestern book - about using acrylic (Not sure here) caulking? joint compound? - something in a small plastic tub (about 8 oz., I'd guess), which comes in white. I like my mortar more of an off-white, though, so I've been thinking about how to add some coloring to the caulking/whatever. Put it on with my finger to push it into the crevices, and then wipe off the surface with a paper towel or such, which leaves it kinda older and messier-looking. Maybe that'll give somebody a starting point for their mortar experimentation...

Good Morning, Zoe, Diners. I'll have the #2 special, wheat toast and blackberry jam, glass of Ed's OJ and cup of coffee, in an Espee mug, please. Thanks!

Todd, my LHS/MRR club member can order anything in for me, and club members get a discount on orders, but not quite that 40 percent off at H-L. Also, H-L carries W-S figures and scenery supplies, which our LHS/MRR club guy doesn't (and H-L is now carrying some DPM kits. As you described, I'm also a 'frugal MRR shopper'....Wink

Chris, thanks for the info on the 'concrete' walls construction. Good luck with your trip down Dingleberry Road...(somebody definitely had a sense of humor when they named that one)Laugh

Galaxy, hope you get those folks to clear the old trailer out for you (and still get a good price on the land). Best wishes on your tire shopping - not my favorite thing to do (ever, even when needed).

Ray, that's bad enough at that school as is, but yes, could've been much worse for others, too. I do like your shirt slogan, though.Smile

Rob, you might check that the front wheels are actually sitting on the rail when stopped. Kevin (our MRR club guru) has one of the 2-10-2's that he got, and we noticed the front wheels would have problems. Kevin said that he'd noticed the problem and suspected it was because the wheels were 'riding high' vs. where they should sit. Might be worth a look at yours. Will keeping Cold Mountain off his hooves a while help heal that up, or will some doctoring also be in order?

Paul, your cows sound about like the cats which can get up a tree, but then cannot figure how to get down again... Good to hear you have your recert. done - how long does that go for? And how's Mary Ann coming along?

Oh, darn - I missed the fun stuff last night, and now it's moved on me...SighWink Sending you an email later today, PC...Yeah!!

Jeff, great work on your diesel mods. Thumbs Up Thanks for the info on the paint stripping, too.

Hey, Jerry, how's your fiddle yard coming along? Any new photos?

We had some rain last night (but not lots), and may have some more today. Cloudy right now in Cape G. The river's up (as is the Diversion Channel - it's flooded out into some farmland near it, I noticed on the way down the interstate last Sat. to the LHS south of here). It sounded like St. Louis area might have rougher weather, and we'll see how much it continues east from there; I think this may be a slow-moving front. But watch yourselves, Inch and Jerry (and even Todd, maybe)!

Debating if I want to get the DPM hotel kit with this week's 40 percent off coupon, or go with the Goodfellows Hall for a hotel (not as big, maybe better suited for a smaller town's motel). I'll sit back here with Jerry and do some doodling on that idea...

Blessings and prayers,

Mornin' everyone!

A sunny glorious morning here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 55°F with a high around 70°F.  My kind of day!  Tomorrow on the other hand.....  Barry is sending me all that rain and storminess that he is having today.  Talking an inch of rain possible.

Looks like it will be another day without getting to the layout for me.  I have rehearsals all morning and then have to shop for the meals at camp for the crew putting on a new roof on the Trading Post.  Still don't know how many people are coming but I have an estimate at least.  Finally got a hold of the Ranger last night.  It will most likely be Sunday before I will any "quality time" to spend with the RR.  Next week I have a quick and easy concert to do (just 2 mikes) for the High School Band.

Hope you all have a great day!  I have to get over to School.

Good morning folks.

I know that in my area, Pacifics pulled all of the passenger trains.  I have an old Mantua that I bought a new motor  and detail parts for.  It was my favorite locomotive when I was a kid, so I feel the need to rebuild it.  I just don't have time or patience to do that right now.  CNW had Berks, but not in this area.  I don't care, I'm going to pretend that since it's 1950, CNW is rotating all of their power to unusual places!  My layout combines CNW trackage as well as Milwaukee Road.  The trestle I built is actually the old Milwaukee line.  I'm using creative license on this one!  I would really like the CNW 4-8-4 H10.  Since I don't see any affordable versions out there I went with something different.  The Berkshire is one of the best looking locomotives that I've seen.  At least, the best looking, affordable model anyway!

I am playing maintenance man at work today.  Customers have had an uncanny ability to track in mud this spring.  I get to shampoo the carpets.  That is, after I finish finishing cooking and washing the bottles!

Have a great day.

Good Morning--

We're going to a high of 21C today with the mix of sun/cloud still happening---yesterday it was beautifully sunny out, not a cloud in the sky---I guess the weatherpeople have to cover all their bases.  Well its sunny right now, but thunderstorms are coming.

Not much plannned today.  I will have to cut some grass before it starts to rain.   Might work on the layout some.   I was going to add on to the layout, but I rather save that space in the basement for the wifes N scale.  To much already invested in the side I would have to tear out.

Jeff, the engine is coming along very nice.

Well I guess I will let it warm up some, and go cut some grass Sigh.

It's 72 and partly cloudy. The high should be in the high 80's and it will be partly cloudy.

The structural work on the SD27J is almost complete. It won't be long until the shell is disassembled and painted in it's new scheme. It will be at this point that the decoder will be installed. Other than that I have no plans for today.

Not much to report here today. I worked on my plastic steel mill cars so they will not derail anymore. They now have weights added and metal wheelsets to replace the plastic ones.

My DCC thread has more good replies added to it. ...Now, I've got it narrowed down. My short list is now down to about six makers of DCC systems. Big Smile

Good evening folks.

I had a busy day doing everything but working and modeling. I mowed my Grandmothers lawn today. Her neighbor asked if I would mow hers as well whenever I'm mowing my Grandmothers . Since I'm down there anyway, why not take the extra twenty bucks? My 'mowing money' is no questions asked train money.

I decided to buy a Bachmann Berkshire with this new found funding. My wife doesn't realize this, but she's an accomplice in the purchase. I hooked my 2-8-0 to my passenger cars to see if I could replicate the photo I have of my trestle. She stated that the locomotive looks too small to pull such big cars.Big Smile I know the Berkshire is not suppose to pull passenger cars, but it's my favorite looking loco. I took the plunge and parted with $65 plus shipping on ebay. I can't wait until this thing arrives. Now I really need to finish my trestle!

I hope all is well for everyone.

Have a good night!

All,

While I find the topic of origins quite interesting, I think we're pushing it to discuss it on this forum when you consider the rules.  Touching on the subject is one thing, but we've.....I've......moved a bit past that I think.  As such, I think we should honor the rules of the forum and leave this subject where it is on the forum.  However, if anyone wishes to discuss the matter further you can Email me at pcarrell@indy.rr.com and I will be happy to talk with you.  If we do it this way I can be more straightforward and thourgh in my answers (Not that I know everything by any means, but it's fun to bounce ideas around).  Fair enough?

Just a quick progress report on the SD27J. Yesterday I stripped the shell, repainted it gray primer and made a few modifications to the top of the long hood. At this point the loco ceased being an SD24 and became my view of a modified SD26, what I call the SD27J. Today I spent much of the morning woking on the blower housing I had cut from an old GP50 shell. After I had carefully trimmed it I test fitted it and found I had to trim it even more. After several hours work I was finally able to mount it.

Hi guys!

Well looks a bit slow in the diner today/tonight. Everyone must be off doing stuff'n'things. Where are the chatty carls tonight?

Just thought I'd check in.

I'm not even gonna get into the religious controversy going on here 'cept to say That could ignite sparks and cause this thread to catch fire and be shut down.

Didn't get to tire shopping today, in fact had a lazy-ish day at home doing some much needed chores. Time to change the winter bedding for summer. Time to get the heated mattress pad off and washed and put away the warm fuzzy fleece and flannel sheets away and wash the comforter etc. and get out the cooler summer stuff. Time to rotate the mattress. And a few other such chores. Boring but necessary. Shoulda moved the layout and got teh other a/c in the window, too, but will wait till really warmer weather for that.....

Waiting at least another day to get planting. 'Posed to frost again tonight.

Well, I should go now

Evenin' everyone!

Been a busy day!  Just getting back in here after spending much of the afternoon getting things done that should have gotten done several days ago, and then were given to me to do.  Got the write up about the Scholarship Dinner and the students who are recipients into the local paper by e-mail and then scanned in photos of each student and emailed them to the paper.  i am also trying to nail down information on a work day at the local Scout Camp that I said I would cook for this Friday and Saturday.  No one seems to have a list of who will be there so it is a bit difficult to buy the food.................  Still need to make some phone calls on that tonight.

I went to the doctor today as planned and got both some good news and some bad news.  I get called and go in for the weight, BP, and stuff.  Good news, my weight is the same as it was 6 months ago.....  Blood pressure was 190 over 92!  I think the nurse used the small cuff which tends to be inaccurate.  Last week at a different doctor (Allergist) it was 138/76.  I had my doctor take it at the end of the exam and it was 142/80, a bit better.  He took a look at my blood work and said my cholesterol was fantastic (total 158) with a good balance between the "good" and the "bad".  Also said liver function and kidney function was completely normal.  Blood sugar????? Not good! Grumpy  I have been a borderline diabetic for the last 15 years but have been able to control it with diet until very recently.  It bounced to 138 for a fasting draw with the 3 month test also being well over the limit......  So I am now being treated with metformin (glucophage) for it.  I may find I will feel better and have more energy (which has been my only medical complaint).  Due to a very common side effect when starting on the drug, I will probably wait untill I can have a few days at home in a row before starting the drug to see what it does to me.  He did come in a stop to read my t-shirt I was wearing that says: "The Time For Action Is Past" in big white letters and underneath in small lettering: "Now is the Time for Senseless Bickering".  He loved it and wanted to know where I got it.  Wrote down the companies name on a piece of paper to look up later.....Whistling  What can I say, he is a singer like me!

Hello ....

PC ... That's a very nice write up on Creationism vs. Evolution. Do you mind if I Bible being true. Atheists can nit pick details in the Old Testament in particular. Example is the referance to unicorns in Psalms.

I have several good resonses from vaious peopl in my thread on DCC.  Jeff posted a good comment there.

Ray- That's sad news.My thoughts are with those affected. Good luck with the article and I hope the doc doesn't give you a bad boy report.

Philip- Exactly my man! I couldn't agree more! I hope you don't mind if I use that should the opportunity arise. Unfortunately I lack the experience in these discussions to come up with good counter arguements. Usually my points and views get muddled in my examples. I know what I want to say, unfortunately it doesn't allways come out clear. And how come Bigfoot doesn't exist because they haven't found any bones, but they can hang there hat on all this other stuff without "evidence" Science? They can't even agree if Pluto is a planet, moon, rock or Santa Anna's other wooden leg. I understand that (sorry editor) more events described in the Bible have been proven probable if not at least possible than these fish developing lungs in the water for some reason and crawling out of the water becoming chimps, cows, horses or armadillos. To my understanding it is a guess to fill in the gaps of there theories as you have said. I do believe in the big bang theory though. God slapping his hands together and saying "There!"

What irriates me the most is that the Evolutionists can give their points all day long but if You, I or anyone else says Creation, then it immediatley becomes an argument. It offends them and I am not allowed my point of view. SoapBox Sorry.

Best knock this conversation short before we get accused of dsiscussing religion. I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk. Laugh

Afternoon Gang: I finished my CEUs for my electrical license and sent in my renewal to the Texas Electrical License folks. Now that is one more duty out of the way.

I guess now I have to go out and get to work on fences again. The cows got into the haylot yesterday. Of course about half of them couldn't figure out how to get out. I ended up taking down a section of a temporary fence to get them out. I've got five of them that really don't look good. they are the older ones so I guess it's time to take them to the sale barn.

Well I'd better get going.

Take care All

I went train hunting, and NOTHING.  A CSX train hit a teenager Sunday.  The child died, and I believe thats why not to many CSX freight has been going by.  I could be wrong.

Ray, that could've been VERY BAD!!

Rob, Hope "Cold Mountain" gets better.  GREAT name. I love the movie, since I am a fan of the civil war.   The mountain is in NC, but its a hill.  The movie was filimed in Germany.....I believe.

Coffee in a large  SOUTHERN  mug, please & thanks.

Some interesting posts and pics in the Diner lately. Keep 'em coming.

Finally made it into the train room last night for a bit. Worked on wife's (HO) canyon walls. Not sure if they are improving any at all, but at least the seams between sections of the blown foam are getting covered.

Today I just ran some (N) trains and seems more of them are starting to "act up", so I would assume it's the track getting dirty. Sheesh, haven't even glued any down yet and already it needs cleaning?Sigh The front tender truck of the Bachmann 2-8-0 derails once around the circuit and my Bacnmann Moutain (junk) is only worthy of display duty. Not pleased with the Heritage 0-8-0 now either. Hopefully it's just the track. Already lost the Berkshire to a slipped or broken something a week or so ago. Not a fun day.

Have a horse "Cold Mountain" with a serious hoof crack and will bring her in this evening when the wife returns from helping her folks.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Think I'll forget about my healthy eating and die happy.WhistlingLaugh
