LSWrr Lion, you should wander over to Ohio for one of our 2 main train shows. Box cars run $2.50 to $7.50 each. Walther’s and Trainman new rolling stock runs $8 to $12 each.
When and where are these events where I can save some pennies? I was just up for WGH last weekend (didn't have time to make it to Railfest). Despite being a Pittsburgher and Penn State fan, I make occasional ventures into enemy territory and get dirty looks at the gas station from people with Ohio State stickers on their cars. My brother lives about halfway between Akron and Cleveland, so like I said, I'm in eastern OH with some regularity.
Good Evening Everyone,
Another cold night up here. It's 11F right now going down to -6F tonight but we are supposed to be in the 40's by the week-end. I'm beginning to wonder if spring will ever come as we still have full snow cover in the yard but hopefully by next week there will be a few patches without that white stuff. Mind you the snow has crystalized and is frozen hard enough that Pippa can walk on it without sinking in.
I finally finished that Red Caboose Sunoco tank car kit. It turned out fine but I'm not that impressed with a kit that requires you to ream out every mounting hole for all the fittings and then for others you have to drill out the mountings with a very poor gig. The plastic on the grab irons, etc. is also quite brittle and easy to break. Oh well, it did try my patience but it won't encourage me to buy Red Caboose again.
I've been running trains a fair bit this week. Right now I'm in CN freight mode using just steam. Those PK2 0-6-0's certainly are smooth runners. Next it will be CN passenger as I like to give my locos equal running time. For that I use my Spectrum light Mountain but as I have only 3 CN steam it really doesn't take long to give them "all' a good run. I hope to get back to that decoder install in a Mehano Sante Fe as I think I know what I did wrong provided I didn't fry the decoder. That would get me up to 4 and if I put a decoder in my Mehano Hudson, I'll have 5! A veritable fleet.
Nik, sorry to hear about your grandfather.
Galaxy, that wasn't exactly good news you had regarding your back. I don't have any personal experience with back issues but my wife has had back problems since she was in her '30s. She has learned to deal with it but has to be very careful.
See you soon,
CN Charlie
Evening, Chloe - could I have a hot fudge brownie sundae a la mode, please, with a cup of coffee in a Santa Fe mug? Thanks!
Yesterday, I had promised a photo of my friend Mary (from S. Calif.), but then realized that such a thing might be ... So, instead, here's my link to said OFF-TOPIC photo of Mary...
Lee, I figure that about as soon as I'm finishing up my scratchbuilt team transfer track facility, I'll happen across the last available copy of the Walthers kit, right?
Kinda busy at w**k today, and not much done on my layout, except for having my trailer home kits out and thinking about my "Shady Lane Trailer Park", with the row of mailboxes out by the dirt/gravel road (and with the tracks just across the road from the park).
'nuther warm day today (70 F or so), but I think tomorrow it's supposed to start cooling off into a high in the 50's for the rest of the week.
Robby, I think that hamster had better have 9 lives of his own, at the rate his excursions have been going for him!
Eric, those walls look good - what's that building gonna be, again?
Nik.n, sorry to hear of your Grandfather's passing - I'm sure many people will be missing him. Will add you and your family to my prayer list.
Paul, I'd bet that Bergie has noticed when he peeks in the window every so often. But he tends to be a man of few words, too. Hey, on those subscriptions, that's a good reason to stagger them out across different times of the year (so they all don't hit the bank account at the same time)
Sawyer, I'd agree with your choice - much better than taking Biology and Phys. Science in the same year! And great deal on those test scores!! Keep that up,
Jeff, I'm looking forward to seeing Ezra's new digs above the garage. And - under the 'better ways to spend 6 hours' - would 'watching paint dry' be above the Hazmat training?
Uh, NittanyLion - yeah, putting some funds back for a place to run all those freight cars you've been getting would be good...
Barry - I don't know, it might be that PC's just been really busy because he's been eating all the pies in the back, instead of sitting out front here and talking like the rest of us motor-mouths (like you and me...) Hey, is it spring up there yet?
Well, (for now) I'm caught up, so I'll be heading for home (and bed). About that time for me.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Nik, sorry about all the "issues" lately. You and yours are in my prayers.
ewl01 PC- It seems you've been laying low. Everything okay?
PC- It seems you've been laying low. Everything okay?
Yeah, I've just been real busy lately. It's that time of year in the phone business. Lots of new building projects for the summer and spring storms to keep things interesting.
blownout cylinderPC-did you mention PIE?? Where? Where?---
Pie? Where? I don't see no pie!
Evening all,
Lion, you should wander over to Ohio for one of our 2 main train shows. Box cars run $2.50 to $7.50 each. Walther’s and Trainman new rolling stock runs $8 to $12 each.Todd, yea I got the little toe whip while I was there.Jeff, you may need a troop train to sit on a spur in your town just to keep the locals calm.I got cast made for my orthotics and now I just need to wait until I get the card in the mail to pick them up.I just finished wiring the Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 for DCC and gave it the LS&W lightning stripe down the boiler catwalks. I’m waiting for Bachmann to write back with the cost of those plugs they use between the locomotive and the tender (unless you guys know a good source for them).

nik:late, but sorry to hear of the passing.
Today was blood drive. twas fun. arm hurts, so i'm writing this one-handed. got some paint on an old lionel aft Daylight into that ph4 amtrak that derjohn and i are fond of.
thinkin about trying t rig smoke units instead of a motor. one for smoke, the other for the cylinder cocks etc. maybe a third for the steam valves on top. f i feel stupid enough, rig one for whistle.
Cool sounding, but I bet I won't get this far. Least not for a while.

jeffrey-wimberly TMarshJeff- I got an offer to be the mail delivery person (politically correct) for your layout. I respectfully declined. I don't blame you. Sundown and Nutzville are growing so fast that soon they'll be one city instead of two towns.

Jeff-do you have issues with the Nutzville or the Sundown seperatists? If'n you get that large they may start their own liberation fronts!!LOL!!

Drove down to the city (Pittsburgh) to hit up the bigger shop down there. Came back with some oddball things like some DPM wall sections. Those huge urban buildings add up pretty fast when you're building them four squares at a time, so I like to spread out the acquistion of wall-pieces. Got some sort of covered hopper made by Atlas. Don't remember exactly what it is but it looks like a regular old ACF in that 4750 cu ft neighborhood, but has some sort of pneumatic piping on the bottom hatches. I believe its for plastic pellets. Also snagged the last of the three cyrogenic reefer kits they had. Last December I saw three of them hiding on the bottom of the wall and over the last three months, bought all three. Two were undecorated. Every time I got into a shop, I tell myself "no more rolling stock." But they seduce me every time. At least those little beer can tank cars give me that "$30 for something so small?" feeling that keeps me away. But $22 for a hopper, all over that. My fleet sits at 25 cars right now, around 30 if you count battered cars from my youth in need of repair. When I was a teen, had a layout, and still ran around with Bachman, Model Power, and Life-Like toy train stuff, I dont think I had that many. A meager fleet, yes, but all things considered I am running out of shelf space.
I just realized thats an average of two a month since I returned last April. Maybe I should redirect some of that funding towards, you know, a layout of some sort instead.
Thanks for the congrats y'all. I've had those scores for a while though. I told y'all what i got on the PSAT back in the fall, right?

Evenin' all. Nothing for me thank you. I just popped in to say
Nik- Sorry about you grandfather. Your family is in my prayers.
Galaxy- I have back (spinal issues) myself and I sympathize. I also have knee issues and shoulder issues and wrist issues and brain issues. The last one is my wife diagnosis. Prayers for you to be able to overcome or find relief from the pain. I'm in the forties also.
Sawyer-Wow! Impressive schedule, and congrats on the good reports, Good luck!
Lee- A little late but I hope you didn't get the "tootsie flipper"
Jeff- I got an offer to be the mail delivery person (politically correct) for your layout. I respectfully declined.

Coffee refill, please & thanks. I know it's late, but the wife is helping her folks tonight, so it is a good time to crank up the surround system and watch a SciFi flick. (she doesn't like SciFi...one of her very few faults)
***Paul, you guys sound very similar, in that my wife is the one who does all the paper work here, too...and I'm good at checking over the numbers.
***Sawyer, Congrats on those scores!
***Galaxy, we're in kinda similar circumstances. I'm still in my 40's and my body is falling apart, even though I try to ignore it. It sucks!
***Eric, we've ordered from Walthers once or twice with no problems (unless you include items becoming out of stock). Cool that they said "keep it". That always scores points. I just placed and order with GoHobbies and will see how they do. Wonder if anyone else here has used them?

last mountain & eastern hoggerJeff, there is so much upheval in that town of yours it is hard to find your way around there anymore. I still haven't found a spot to park my trailer.
Nik, our sincere condolances to you and your family on the loss of your Grandfather, These are tough things to endure, but we all experiences them, not once but many times in the course of a lifetime. Peace be with you as well as our thoughts and prayers.
Sawyer, Congratulations on such a good report that you received and good luck with that heavy load for next semester. But, we all know you are a good man and by doing your best will accomplish much.
I was about to say it has been a slow day here, but I think one of our Managers just go fired. Hhmmm, very interesting. Guess I will find out more when it filters down to my level.

AmanaMedicSpeaking of fire, my Saturday is shot. The all-day HAZMAT Operations level training we were supposed to have had last month...is Saturday. Yippee. I hate HAZMAT, don't want any part of it. BUT, we're mandated to have the training. I like my Chief's theory: "We'll have at least ten of us that will know what to do...and hopefully, if we take off running away, everybody else will follow us!"
Oh--sheeesh, got the yard cleaned up--got the garage back to its usual state of chaos--and managed to start on identifying what lurks up in the attic. 16 small chests and it looks like all but 2 of them do NOT have keys-------Some of the chests are now down on the first floor with us and Audrey is trying to pry one of them open----
Chloe I'll have a RBF with some Cherry Cheesecake please---
Well, guess what idiot just got himself into (yes, I'm the idiot, lol) Had my IGP meeting today, here's the courses I signed up for:English 2 HonorsGeometry HonorsBiology HonorsPhysical Science HonorsGeography HonorsSpanish 2PESo, I'm going to work like heck on my layout this summer, so that it will be up[ and running for the school year.oh, and it was either double up on Biology and phy./ science this year, or Biology and chemistry later on.It was so funny though, b/c the lady pulled out my Explore test results, went "Well", looked really surprised, ahd to pause for a second or two, then said that she'd only seen this high of scores once, and something about I got the highest percentile you could get on the ACT to get into college or something like that.
Afternoon all, too nice out now to sit inside so I'll be going out soon.
Chloe, I will have a RBF before I leave.
Say what you will about Walthers but sometimes they're not that bad. I had placed an order for a number of module kits since they seem to be giving them away. (They apparently have tons on the shelf) Well, the order picker pulled the wrong part number, it happens, done it myself. I called Walthers and of course they took care of the problem, it gets better. The rep asks if I can use the mispulled item, which I will eventually. "Why don't you keep it, the postage would cost too much to return it." Sounds good to me. Now, we're talking a low priced item hich would have cost 2.00 to return but still, nice deal.
Eric
Afternoon Gang:
Nick I'm very sorry to hear about your Grandfather. From the responce to the accident I'd say he was a very well liked man. Give you Grandmother my sympathys and the rest of the family.
I'll second what Chris said about the gang here. I wonder if Bergie has noticed how close we all are?
Not much going on here. Both Mary Ann and I are feeling a bit better. It's just taking so long for this crud to run it's course. She's been working on our taxes for the last couple of weeks. It's been really hard on her this year because of the sickness and all. I've tried to help but she has her system and it's better if I stay away. I do help a bit by doing the adding on some things and sorting out what's for the ranch. This year I think that she is going to let me get some files together and get at least some of the expensis on the computer. That way things will be really screwed up.
I have to get to paying dues and subscriptions. Both Trains and MR are due and the Great lakes Historical Society and The Leighton Buizzard Narrow Gauge Railway Socieity in England.
So with that I'll head on out and get at it.
nik .n Hi. ...I've had an eventful week. Bye. ...
Hi.
...I've had an eventful week. Bye. ...
I have lit an EXTRA Prayer Candle for you and your family.
The standard Prayer Candle is up for those who else need thoughts and prayers.
Well, on the bad news front, I had to go to the Dr.s today. I had a pain in my lower back left quandrant since Sat. It has taken away my appetite and was causing me lots of distress. Some Xrays later, and besides a pulled muscle causing spams, they found arthritis in my spine! I had to ask him twice to repeat that finding. That can explain why my back in general hurts now more than before. I know many people get it, woman in their hands particularly, but I'm only 45, and not ready for a life of arthritis pain. More to add to my list of illness/diseases. SO now I have some good drugs...a muscle relaxer and pain killer. The pain killer doesn't seem to be doing much, but I think the muscle relaxer is starting to take effect..............forgive me if I nod off int he midlle of this........
Also looks like after a few days of spring Winter rears its ugly head again tomorrow at only 30* again.
I think I will make a cake tonight if anyone wants some! Then again with teh muscle relaxer..........
Time to wish you all well andf good nite before I really nod off......

Hello everybody....
Nic N .... Of course, that is sad news about your grandfather, and it is tragic that your grnadmother winessed the accident, too. She will need love and support from you and other family members. Feel free to share your feelings in the days ahead. We know it is sad for you. We'll pray.
It is a beautiful day, and I have been outside spring cleaning.
Early this morning, I was working of repair and maintenance of some model trains. Never ending shore, but it's fun.

EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
Good afternoon, a double cheeseburger, large plate of fries (in beef fat, please), and a small bucket of Coke.
There seems to be a lot of loss, and suffering amongst the Diner crowd. To all affected (sorry if that sounds cold/impersonal, just too many to list), please know you are not alone, and are in our thoughts. There is a particular fellowship here, I've not seen in other forums. I've seen the "brotherhood of the fire service" first-hand. I would propose there is a "brotherhood of the Diner" as well...and it seems to be a strong, powerful, positive force.
Its cloudy and much cooler in Clarence today. I might actually get some work done without expecting to go play with another grass, field, or ditch fire.
Speaking of fire, my Saturday is shot. The all-day HAZMAT Operations level training we were supposed to have had last month...is Saturday. Yippee. I hate HAZMAT, don't want any part of it. Back to RR stuff, here's a scan of a little print shot on a Kodak 110 film camera back in 1984. I found this sitting alongside the ex-Rock Island roundhouse in Cedar Rapids. A PRR boxcar wasn't far from it, and a jade green NYC boxcar was sitting farther out in the scrap yard (former RI yard).

Jeff, I feel you should be handing out score cards so we can keep up with your town, have you any thoughts of becoming a city manager?I have to go to the podiatrist today to get fitted for new orthotics. Not a big deal but I know they will have to adjust my foot before they make the castings. As long as the female doctor doesn’t touch me I should be fine. The male doctor adjusts the foot by hand and takes his time the female grabs the big toe and shakes the foot. From what I understand both methods are taught in school, but the toe flipping thing hurts like heck.Lee
nik.n sorry to here about your granddad. A lot of us seem to be suffering from illnesses and personal losses lately. There are those who say God has a plan, but why does it have to hurt so much? Part of life experience I imagine.....
