Todd: Yer killin' me Pal... yer absolutely killin' me... I'm sure my editor's Spidy Senses are kicking in...

As a self-taught "urinalist" (if somebody doesn't like what I wrote...they can p--- in it!) I'm not only developing my craft, but working through the subtle stupidity of "AP style." I guess the good thing about not having gone to a "J-school," is at least I didn't get introdoctrinated as to what "causes" I'm suposed to be an advocate for, or what my "agenda" is supposed to be. Being self-trained, I just deliver the facts, and let the reader decide for themselves. Unlike my counterparts in the big-time media, MY readers should not be able to tell my politics from my articles.

Wow.

Where did THAT come from???

Carry on, nothing to see here...

Good Evening Diners!

Say all this talk of train shows and nary a one to be seen anywhere around here. In fact there is only one a year and needless to say there aren't any manufacturers present. I haven't bought anything for the layout for a while and I'm starting to get the shakes. Oh wait, I do have an order waiting for me at my friend's place in Thief River but it'll be a couple of months until I get back down there. I feel a little better now.

Question for PC, I'm looking at getting a Proto Berkshire in N and I can't seem to find anything on converting it to DCC so I assume it isn't DCC ready.  Do you know anything about these locos?

Great to see you back in the Diner Jeff and that you're feeling better.

We had the usual running around Saturday but my wife did take me out to lunch to a place we like that does great mussels in a Pernod sauce.

Well the TV beckons and I do feel like doing a flop.

Todd--this would be the dangest thing for a mall. Imagine a mall that(AAAGGHH!!) has glass on all sides and the buildings kinda sorta inside(OK-backwalls are part of the glass sided bit). I've yet to see some malls looking this---er--um--eccentric(Yeah!!-that's it!). Sort of 'Post-modern' if you will.Whistling. I'm sure there is a prototype for it somewhere---------Whistling

This one is a bit of a monster to convert.....probably one of the toughest conversions out there. I'd probably opt to just pay someone a few bucks to do it (Like these guys maybe if you don't have anyone local) if you aren't comfortable tearing this bad boy down completely and then milling on the frame.  There are directions here, but it's a real challenge.  On the bright side, it's a very nice loco and a good puller, so it's a good candidate for the job.

Well, as I mentioned before, I have gotten the smaller table, the one which used to be part of my Poppop's layout, from my parents home to my current one!  I removed all the remaining particles of cork and track nails from the top surface, and I am now searching all over this house for a caulk gun...  NO LUCK, called my fiancee and asked if I could borrow one of her fathers caulk guns tomorrow after church, which the answer was YES!  So now I am in a hold pattern until tomorrow to get the extruded foam board glued down.  Which, I have to run to my self storage unit and grab the cork roadbed that has been sitting in a box waiting for it's moment in the limelight, hopefully I can still make use of it!  Here is a photo of the table top, post scraping!

I did however forget to take the photo of this thing once I had brushed off the debris... I apologize for the grainyness (if that is even a word, well it is now!!!)  but my phone doesn't take great photos...  I believe this section used to be staging on my poppops layout (if the marks of where the cork roadbed are any indication, that is my guess.)

Jeff, I hope you are resting!?! We all missed you a lot (you not being here we couldn't hit you with pies!!!)  Glad you are doing better!  I'll be praying for your full recovery my friend!

Prayers for all my friends, known and future!  I'll just hang out here near the back, and have a glass of Coke (Coca-Cola for those who want to be over ANALytical!!!)  and a big bag of popcorn please?  Thank Chloe!

Good evening ....

Here are a couple of photos for you........

First is my roadside diner that I made on the dining room table during our recent 9 day blackout following the ice storm. All work was done during the day when dalight came in the window. It will be a while before it has a place on the layout.

The marching band is to welcome Jeff home.

The second picture is another view of my new dining car. I posted 2 other pictures in WPF.

Barry, around here you would be surprised what is a mall. I think if you left an old outhouse sittin' somewhere there would be at least two vendors in there (need at least two to be a mall. There are mall rules ya know) sellin' something.Laugh

Garry, Niiiiice diner! Thumbs Up

Chris, yeah just funning'. I remember in High School, what?, YES, Barry.... Williamsville DOES have a high school, and YES it is more than just one room. Oh for .....YES it has indoor plumbing. What a jokester Laugh. Anyway, my English teacher had that pet peeve herself. Said it was the most unnecessarily over used word in the English language. That...and mall.Laugh

G-night all. Prayers for those in need

Well, I decided that I was not going to sit idley by just because I couldn't glue down my foam...  So, I prepped my new Bachmann Maintenance of Way Rail Detector Step Van for DCC.  It took me all of about 10 minutes to figure out the process of separating the van body from the motor mount.  I then had to figure out how I was going to isolate the motor from the two frame halves, which I found that a piece of elctrical tape sliced into thin strips and used to wrap around the ends of the motor worked sufficiently to also allow air flow accross the motor to prevent overheating with prolonged use!  Now I put the whole thing back together until I can purchase the Digitrax DZ125 decoder ( I want to use this prticular decoder due to the fact that it has Fx3 functionality, along with Back EMF and "Switching" mode)

Hey Amanamedic:  Have I passed the "That" test???  Please check my previous two posts as well!!!  LOL, I didn't do it intentionally, but it seems I may have subconciously avoided using said particular word!!!  It's amazing the subconcious mind, isn't it???

Well, Good Night all!

Again, I pray for all of those in need (which is pretty much all of us isn't it)!

EDIT:  I forgot to ask:  If anyone knows which LED is the best one to use for the strobe light on top of the step van?  I want to replace the simple little "DIMPLE" of plastic which has been painted with a
"Safety" orange/amber.  I figure since I am already going through the trouble of installing a DCC decoder I may as well install headlights, taillights, and the strobe light, and possibly even a figure in the driver's seat!!!

Todd. Any editor I have had gave up on me as a lost cause--I'd be so incorrigable. Oh THAT(grrr--reaches for throat--NO! NO! GAA---AA-CK!!)  and some other turns of pseudo phrases would be things "like", "sort of", "um", "er"---and the pregnant pause.Mischief

----------------------as for high schools WE had 3 of the things, Plus I went to a public school that(OHNO OHNO--Runaway flee flee!!!) actually looked like an inner-city slum school than a 'normal' school--it came complete with fencing on top of a concrete wall, asphalt play area so that we could really injure ourselves, and dead trees. This in a 'city' only 20,000 in population. As for outhouses ---well-----Whistling BTW--we, as kids going to this ---er---fine establishment called a school would frequently talk about going to 'prison' on Mondays to Fridays--and we also could not fraternize with members of the opposite sex--segregation by gender( could not even play in a playground together but we were together in a classroom)ConfusedWhistling--and people wonder why we're so odd-----Whistling

Anyway, my English teacher had that pet peeve herself. Said it was the most unnecessarily over used word in the English language.

Hey, NOW I remember why she doesn't like "that," that's why...I remember her saying that now about "that."

Huh.

Imagine that....

***EDIT***

Oh, and Sam? I think that's her goal for me...to get me to consciously or subconsciously find other alternatives to that word. Maybe it's a mental thing... maybe SHE'S mental. I wonder if she didn't have some psychotic English teacher, maybe some psychological trauma for saying said word.

Good night everybody....

Good Morning People. The current temperature is -5C and that is where we will sit for the day. We are having another 2-5cm of the white stuff with potential for more if snowsqualls show up, otherwise a mix of sun/cloud. Tonight's low will be -11C.

I'm doing an early spring cleanup of my trainroom today and watch a couple of old train videos as well. I'm trying to wrestle some more workspace from the stuff  cluttering it all up. Otherwise any posting of pix from this petunia is going to be very cluttered----Whistling

Good morning all,

Snowing outside, but the weather guesser said no more than 1” of accumulation today.

Sam: How large is this VAN?  I would think the 1.5 mm led would be your only hope.  Quicker electronics has a rotating beacon LED but I think its 5 mm.

Garry, I love the dinner are we going to see girls on roller skates delivering food to the cars?

HYDRATE OR DIE!

Sawyer, have you ever been to a Camp operated by the Marines?  Do a Google search for:

USMC hydration chart

it is an interesting concept, you match your urine color to the chart and it tells you how much water you need to consume to bring you back to a safe hydration level.   Did you know you can dehydrate faster in cold weather?

“I apologize for the graininess (if that is even a word, well it is now!!!) “  Yes actually it is a word unlike strategerey that President Bush invented during a live press conference.

Ok I hope you all have a good Sunday….

 Mornin' all!

Indianapolis, Indiana
Currently: 18°F Flurries

Wind: West at 17 MPH
Humidity: 77%
Dewpoint: 12°F
Barometer: 30.24 inches and rising
Wind Chill: 3°F

Today: partly cloudy until midday then becoming mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Highs in the mid 20s. Northwest winds around 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph.

Good day to stay inside.......and guess what!

A day off!  Finally, not one thing I absolutely HAVE to do!

Thing is, I've got a few things I've been putting off that I should do, so I'll probably do those today.  The good part is, at least there's no real pressure to get them done by xyz time.  I'm supposed to have read the Screwtape Letters for a class, and I've got that book on tape, so I see that happening today.  Also, I'd like to change out my headlight bulb on my motorcycle for a brighter one I picked up earlier this week.  Lastly, I want to do a couple things to my hot tub project to get it ready for water and testing.  Yeah, it's getting that close to done!  I should be tubbing in style for under $500 soon!  Oh, and a nap is figuring pretty high on my to-do list today too!

Sam, I'd put one (maybe two) small LED inside the back of the truck and then run fiber optics from there to the various lights.  You can add color to the lights with some of that stained glass window type translucent paint on the tips of the fiber optics. Painting the shafts of the fiber optics black will keep the colors from bleeding together and it'll keep the blinking LED from affecting the non-blinking LED if you go that route.  The biggest downside is that all the lights will have to be on all the time, or they all have to flash as one, unless you use more then one LED.  The upshot is that the fiber optic ends, even mushroomed with some heat, are very small and can give you a scale sized light bulb!  Just my

WARNING......RANT dead ahead!

And as for not using "That" word.....THAT'S CRAZY! MischiefEvilBig Smile  The English language is a constantly evolving language.  It's like a living being, growing and changing as it does, and to restrict it in such an arbitrary way is to effectively choke it.  The only restrictions thatShock I used it!) should be placed on it are those thatShock Again!  This is fun!) the society using the language deem, as a whole, to be socially unacceptable for some reason, like swearing.  It's not socially acceptable, or considered polite, to use those words that ( Evil OK, now I'm just getting carried away!) society has deemed as "foul" language.  I'm not aware that (This is kind of fun!) the word "that" has been added to the that (See, here's a good use of the word in question!) unsavory list. ( Wink THREE TIMES IN THE LAST SENTIENCE!  That (!) has to be some sort of record!)  Lastly, you might remind her of those famous words of William Shakespeare, "To be, or not to be, that is the question!"  Is she presuming herself to be a better practitioner of the English language then William Shakespeare himself?  Would she be so presumptuous as to think that (This has got to stop!) she could correct William Shakespeare in his use of the English Language?  Just tell her that (I'm out of control!  Someone stop me!) imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and you are merely imitating Mr. Shakespeare when you use that (this is bordering on lunacy!) word.  I don't see how she could possibly put up a valid argument to that!  (Oh the madness of it all!)  If she somehow persists, have her rewrite what I just wrote here, without using the word in question.  Even if she manages to remove all of my uses of it, she will misquote Mr. Shakespeare if she dares go there!  And imagine how difficult the syntax would become in this paragraph!  You see, to not use that (The insanity of it all!) word would make the English language quite cumbersome, as one would have to constantly keep re identifying the object one is talking about.  The word in question takes on the job of a pronoun in this case, and thereby facilitates a fluidity of the language.  Does she dislike other pronouns, or is she biased to only this one?  If just this one, isn't that (Are the language police coming yet?) like being a language racist?  Boy, THAT (Oh the humanity!) should stir up a whole hornets nest!  But I digress..........  /rant  I'll go back to my corner now.............

So whats going on with you all?

Needin' some prayers?  No problem.....gottcha covered!  I pray for you all constantly!

My 2 cents to PC's rant; And That's that!  So There!

(My punctuation skills have deteriorated in hte last several months)

Sunny and cool in San Antonio this morning. 50 at 10:00am.  Well, it was cool at 7:30 when I went out.

Saw some GP30 P2ks at the show yesterday at half marked price (less than retail).  Probably the early ones with the gear problems. (not a big deal to me, I'z kin fixt it!) They have the EMD demo paint and look sharp, still shrink wrapped.  Might buy them anyway if they're still there.... now, how do I get them home????? Suitcase isn't big enough..... There is a UPS store on the other side of the hall and I don't leave till Monday.  Oh what the heck, it's only money.  Money... the car to and from the airport up home cost more than the round trip on the 737-500 from Newark to San Antonio!  What's 70 bucks for 2 engines?

Luke, I installed decoders before there was a plug much less a standard.  If you can solder teeny-tiny wires to teeny-tiny screws, circuit boards, and terminals it's a piece of cake, if you read the directions!  If I can do it almost anyone can!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special.  Over easy on the eggs, bacon, homefries, and some of THAT dark roast coffee.  Oh and make THAT sourdough toast as well.  THAT #2 special is good!

I think I will use today to finish up the electrical rewiring of the layout in hopes that the handyman will arrive this week to put in the new 20amp circuit for the main room.  I also will have a 15amp fuse in line with what I am putting in just as an additional safety (and the fact THAT I already had one on part of the layout wiring THAT I removed  yesterday.  THAT comes complete with an on/off switch so I might just as well go ahaed and use THAT.

I also have about 25 or 30 more CD's to pack for customers THAT I will be taking to the post office tomorrow.  THAT should clear off my dining room table so I can start sorting invoices for the taxes THAT have to get done soon.  I may cart around what little wood THAT is still out by the shed.  THAT won't take long as there isn't much of THAT left.

Hope every one of you has a great day.  Remember "This is the Day THAT the Lord has made!"

THAT is all I have this morning....... We will get back to THAT Later!

Morning. et's start with aglass of milk. Mind if I plop down my radio? I'm listening to Prairie Home Companion and later Wait Wait.

One more word on that topic.

Our english makes note of us using that (LOOK! A double use! The word itself, and a pronoun referring to the topic. Take THAT madme editor) The problem is that Joe-Blow tends to run with sveral nouns in one sentence, and then fire off that several times without being clear which noun that that is trying to replace. My guess is that that is what irks her about that.

Okay, so that's 67 words...

Hope all is doing well as can be. Behind, again.

Middle School atheltic director asked me about training to use the Swim Meet software for their games. If it's a paying gig, yeah. If not, I can put it in my NHS service folder. Volunteering ranks right up there with money for me right now. School am my pimary job, the rest is just gravy. Hah hah. that's what I think.

Need a favor from ya's guys. Right now I have a pair of coaches that are heading into Private coach or Charter service. Both are Globe 72ft coaches (fluted sides) unlettered. What I'm looking for are possible roadnames, and car names. A roadname could be any rr or mrr, a Historical Society there-of, a private buisness that has nothing to do with railroads except that they sponsored a railroad car, anything. If you guys don't have anything, the roadname will default to Northern Enterprises. Carnames can likewise be just about anything, though let's avoid vulgar (not a problem with yous guys) and joke names for joke names sake. If A. Laim Ducke is the mayor of your town and strong advocator of railroads, feel free to nominate him. but let's not just go and suggest a lame-duck of a name. If you nominate a spouse to be honored on someone else's layout, let's make sure it's okay with them. Also, any of ya from any scale and any eras can suggest things. Private coaches are forever.

Car 1 is a stainless silver car with a Rio Grande Orange (That's a color, not a roadname) stripe and a flat black roof. I got it this way.

Car 2 is currently stainless steel, but the paint on it is splotchy, so we can repaint it as needed. It wil at least get a better coat of stainless if nothign else

Thanks guys! and there will be more cars later too

I don't come in for one whole day and you people have moved the diner again? Wow, that must be like 8 times in two or three years...

Well it looks like it might rain today, although yesterday was great... Back to being Seattle, I guess.

Mark

Mark, didn't Flashwave say youu got Brain Cancer? Or is that someone else?

Uh...

on the end of the last diner, someone said a family had a family member diagnosed with brain cancer. I dropped who the person was in the grade crossing on the way here. I thought it was Hoop' but I not sure now. SOry for the confusion

I gt homework including a poster that is supposed to be someone else's job but is due Monday and they didn't do it, so I have to to salvage my grade. Teach has already stated that they're grade is flushed.  then I'm going t do some Decal work. SOme to make for ITM's Toolcar, the above coaches later, station decals for NWR, And some Salvation Army. Their going to sponsor a Pickle Vat car for the holiday season. We tld them alright, but we weren't going to scale up the bell. Then NJDX brought Northern Enterprises a 57 mech reefer to be decked in Micro Scale Christmas. Another was sold to Northern's Christmas Department and will become Tusan Red with gold lettering and a red roof. Athearn Blue Boxes. 6.50 and 7 love saving money.

WARNING......RANT dead ahead!

The above statements have been amended to remove the use of the word in question. It has also been edited for length by the removal of all the unnecessary quotations which were in quotes. The amended version is as follows:

And as for not using "That" word, hereafter referred to as ####.....THIS IS CRAZY! If she somehow persists, have her rewrite what I just wrote here, without using the word in question.  Even if she manages to remove all of my uses of it, she will misquote Mr. Shakespeare if she dares go there!  And imagine how difficult the syntax would become in this paragraph!  You see, to not use the word would make the English language quite cumbersome, as one would have to constantly keep re identifying the object one is talking about.  The word in question takes on the job of a pronoun in this case, and thereby facilitates a fluidity of the language.  Does she dislike other pronouns, or is she biased to only this one?  If just this one, wouldn't  it be (Are the language police coming yet?) like being a language racist?  Boy,it  should stir up a whole hornets nest!  But I digress..........  /rant  I'll go back to my corner now.............

And that is as they say - that. Now where did I put that copy of the constitution that I was going to correct for grammatical errors?
