RAY / BARRY,,,, when I was bout 11 or 12, we had a half growed, full blood bobcat kitten show up in the barn at milking time along with all the other cats. I was the only one that he'd let handle him with getting a bite. I never did figure out what happened to his mother, but he hung around there for bout year.
Well I best gets round, got plenty going on today. Mothers gotta choo choo cake to finish up for a birthday tomorrow, and me, I've got some chores ta get done [and there's also a truck race on TV this afternoon]. Also hoping to get up to the Mattoon swap meet.

Mornin', Let's see it's Saturday so, how about a bowl of Sugar Coated Sugar Bombs(from Calvin and Hobbes, a name I use for any number of sugar coated breakfast cereals. Barry, If you haven't figured out what to do with your window dilema. There was this guy in the Jun '08 issue of MR that built a large repair shop for the AT&SF and he used felt tip perm marker. Looked good in pics, though I don't of course know how it would look in person. See, if you were in HO then you could use the ribbing from the metal roof sold by Evergreen prods. BUT, just might be a tad big for N scale.
Or N-gauge as a customer in my FLHS continually called it. He claimed to be an old HO modeler, but time got in the way, etc. and now he wants to get back into MRR and space dictates N-gauge. Everyone was quite helpful with him. But no one corrected him so I kept my mouth shut also. They knew what he meant. I recall I used to call it that on my first go around with MRR. It wasn't until I started to get back into it that I read the truth. Was told many old HO people used to call it N-gage out of habit more than ignorance because of the similarities in terms. I said, "yeah, that was me too"
Lee, sounds like a pretty good deal. Though you sound a bit like me in that I like to get all documents with the purchase and not have to go here and there to get it. Old fashioned I know, I guess I'll just have to get used to it .
Got to do a bit of stuff for the wife. BECAUSE I CHOOOOOOSE TOO! Not because of some HD list. It's merely an organizational list of items that I would have come up with anyway, so she's helping me out by helping me remember things. She's a keeper. Mitch, Don't know the situation but like I said to Colby, enjoy the time with your relative (your mom in this case). Let them know how much you really love them, no matter the past. Sometimes that realization comes too late. My dad was never able to express he love towards us until 2 days before his passing. The odd thing was it only took 6 words that we had longed to hear over 44-52 years....to know how he really felt...... "I really do love you kids"..... Two weeks later it still makes me cry.... Yes, REAL men cry.. those that say they don't are either liars, or are emotionally unstable.
Just came back from sneeking a look at the WGH room at the expo center. Not a huge setup but I could see the big name stuff and the rows disappeared into the back. To the right inside the entrance I saw what looks to be a very nice HO modular layout with an intermodel train waiting for action. From what I could see the layout has some nice scenery. To the left was a large scale layout. Couldn't see much except for a 3 track line curving towards the wall. Possible photos? I lost the cable for the Minolta DSLR but I have the Kodak with the SD card that fits the laptop. I'll try.
It turns out that my friend down here used to love running Lionel as a kid during Christmas and she still seems to enjoy the idea. She said their 'Christmas' layout ran from October through February. Lionel has a nice manufacturers display from what I could see so maybe she'll humor me during my drooling and gawking at all the neat HO stuff.
A little on topic, a little off. A nice balance I'd say. I was reading other threads before and some those writers......I'm happy if my trains look good, run well, and don't derail. I understand the desire for scale appearance, speed,and performance, and rightly so. We spend tons of money for these products and have certain expectations, but the tone isome of them were taking turned me off....

It's 20-something here in Clarence, we got maybe an inch of snow, but strong winds are blowing, drifting, and making it miserable outside. I was going to go to a storm spotter class put on by the National Weather Speculators, over in Marion, but decided I don't really feel like 40 miles of blowing, drifting snow on the roadways.
Think I'll have a double bacon cheeseburger, huge thing of fries, large Coke...then settle into a back corner table.

Just came back from the WGH show. I was a bit disappointed, not many vendors. The big names were there; Lionel, MTH, Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann, Woodland Scenics. Kalmbach had a table but no people, just a flyer. Maybe they slept in late. The poor Walthers guy, someone is waving pre- production pic of what I think he says is a D&RG caboose model and wanting to know when it's coming out. I have to admit, Walthers isn't much on product info, but come on!
The Woodland Scenics booth was nice. The Learn To KIts were $10 each. The rock mold alone retails for more tha that and the kit comes with the plaster! I picked up the water kit.
Athearn had the Turbines on display and for RTR they aren't all that bad looking. Now I'm not UP or Turbine specialist,I also don't know if hte model meets scale length etc. but the very thin separate handrails on the roof and the tender are pretty impressive. No, the cab door rails are not separate but the loop at the bottom is also very fine. Also, the vents are painted not see-through but then this is RTR. Not a bad model for the pricees I've seen.
The Lionel set up was impressive, lots of display items and several towers with small sets running complete with smoke.
The kiddy stuff was separated from the rest of the show, thank goodness. There were quite a few layouts of all scales including several Z scale modules, a few N scale and a couple of HO. A group from Corpus Christi (Great Western?) had a nice HO thing going.

I got home a couple hours ago from the Greenberg Train Show in Henrietta, NY. Nice show, not terribly big, but a good range of scales and products. I finally got my Christmas Present from my youngest son there... last November he ordered me an embroidered shirt from the museum I belong to. It finally arrived 3 days ago and I picked it up at the show at the museum's table. I also found 3 Pfaudler American Milk tank cars (Walther's undecorated). They have been out of production now for a year or so and have become hard to find. One of the exhibitors had them marked down to $22.75 - list is 27.98, so I grabbed up all the undecorated ones. Hopefully I can find some decals for them (Dairymen's League, Bordon's, or Sheffield Farms) and the right color paint........???? Bought another book about the "Old and Weary" at the museum table as well, so I had a pretty good morning.
The guy I rode over to the show with brought along his 15 month old grandson. He absolutely loves trains and is a real cute little guy. He loved the layouts!
The sun, against all odds, has decided to keep shining today. Actually up to 31°F outside and only a light breeze.

Sawyer, you could build something with four 2'X4' sections that you could take apart when you move out, and still use them as a start on your next layout in the new place. Lets you make your effort count more in the longer run.

Robby, don't let the new decorations and paint job fool ya - this is the old Diner, just got locked up and moved to another track. It does confuse some of our patrons who wake up with the Diner being dragged down the track... The twins have gotten so used to these moves that they had stronger magnetic latches put on all the cabinets so the dishes don't come tumbling out when the switcher bumps a little hard during the move. You know how to ballast? Hey, great! - I'll call you in when our MRR club gets going on ballasting our tracks. I figure we have a couple hundred feet of mainline and sidings we'll need some help with.
Speaking of my Hobby Lobby trip (remember way back at the start of my post here?), I picked up a package of deadfall and a second package of 'assorted skids'. This one, I'm going to just weather a bit so the skids look different from the one I bought before.

Rob, you could start out with one mainline (and maybe have the turnouts in place, but wired shut to the main that is there...) and add the second one later as funds permit. I love it!
Now, in all fairness to my editor, also known as the Boss's wife, we all have a "hang-up" about something, hers just happens to be the word "that." I'm not sure why. Some writers use it almost to excess. I don't know, I'm just a photographer that (OOPS!) had to become a writer, a self-taught journalist. I'll say this, it does take a certain amount of thought, pre-planning, and even some creativity to find ways to avoid using THAT word.

Got some stuff moved out to moms again. Got my trip to the FLHS. Of course I had to suffer through an agonizing 15 minutes in the yarn section of the Michaels store before we could get to the all too brief 45 minute shopping blitz through Castle Trains. Barely had a chance to get what I needed let alone have time to poke around. Good to see THAT they had business. Picked up a few pieces of flex and some styrene for rollup doors. I still can't remember what I really needed from there. Still windy here and starting to flurry.
I'm afraid to refresh to see if anything's happened so I'll just sit in the back and rest a bit. Scoot over Barry, I see an issue there THAT looks interesting.
