Robby, Robby, Robby,

You say snow that like it's a good thing.

We are expecting 4-8" here. I don't so much care about the snow as I do want it to warm up so the durn bathtub drain unfreezes.

Hawaii is looking mighty good, but prices are going up from here on out for awhile. Jan was relatively cheap, If we had the $$ we might have gone back. But now for Feb prices have doubled. It doesnt matter since we cant afford it, but sure would be nice.

have a great day and have a big piece of CAKE!

Ohhh, wait I'm gonna have some COOKIES!

Mornin, a tall irish coffee please Zoe.

Woke up to 16 degrees and 2" of snow outside, with 2 to 3" [starting as some sleet first more forecast for this afternoon and tonight. Considering the all the ice the radar showed down JIM's n GARRY's way, we gotten off purrty good so far this time.

Sorry for not letting anybody know I was sick, but that was about the farthest thing from my or Mothers minds at the time. Since some of you ask, I'll try to tell it without getting long winded. My problems started on 1-9 with a backache when I got up, by afternoon I was down on the couch. Fri was still sore that morning but some better by evening. Sat, back was some better, but my RT leg, hip and groin hurt like H, by afternoon I couldn't hardly get to the bathroom even without help. Sun was worse and went to the docs on Mon. They sent me to the hospital, thinking appendicitis, a large kidney stone, prostrate problems or cancer. X-rays and CT scans showed nothing, blood test showed a little infection and low sodium. Tues after spending the night with IV's hooked up I was a lot better, they sent me home with a bunch of pills. Then by Sat I was down again, but didn't go see doc till Mon, he sent me back to the hospital. More x-rays, CT scans, blood test n IV's. Cancer was ruled out completely [thank GOD], and my prostrate was the same as ruled out, so more test. Wed, doc said he wanted an MRI to check out my back n hip [thinking nerve damage]. Well folks I'm very Closter phobic and me n Mother both told him so. He promised enough drugs I wouldn't care. Well he didn't give me enough, I lasted maybe 2 minutes in that thing and I was getting H out of there. The girl running it had to take my outside for awhile, I was shaking so bad. They like to never got me calmed down even with drugs. Thurs, doc wanted to know if I'd try the MRI again, I said not if I'm still awake. I survived it this time with lots of drugs, a wet washrag over my face and the girl from the night before holding my hand. Fri was good n bad news, good was, I could go home and that no major health problems was causing the pain. Bad, they think it's my arthritis, in my back n hip and I'm not eligible for surgery [which I already knew]. So now I have to see a pain specialist [who's on vacation till next week]. I go back to see my regular doc tomorrow and will learn more about it then. I'm getting along better now with the drugs [3 kinds of Steroids and pain meds] and I still get the shaking in my left hand some times, but I'm able to walk some, sit and fell like doing some chores without hurting to bad.

On the rest the family, Jbird was diagnosed with Juvenal athirst in the leg she broke when she was 1 yr old. KC is allergic to milk now. Jocko has streep throat and Jbirds got it too. now. My sister has skin cancer on the back off her LT ear, she started radiation treatment last week and little brother goes in thur for a new pacemaker/defabulter. I think most everyone else is doing ok so far.

DICK,,, a very late Happy Burthenday to ya. I didn't think you were that old.

GARRY,,,, we sure enjoyed last summer too and would like to get back down your way again, but we'll just have to wait n see how things go for now, before making any plans.

TODD,,, me n JERRY's about 3 hour S/SE of you in Martinsville [close to 30 m from Terre Haute Ind]. We'd planned on being up by you last Sat, for a grandsons [he lives in Mattoon] wrestling match in Chatom and maybe a trip on into Castle hobby shop. But there wasn't anyway I could make that far and for that long.

Did work on the layout some yesterday and found out I'm short on cork for all the streets by about 2 sq ft, but I can still get a lot of them laid out. Also worked on the park some and almost ready for some ground cover there. I need to find some picnic tables now for along the creek. Won't get anything done today, I'll have the 2 girls here. The other kids have school till noon at least now, till the next snow moves in.

Well I best gets moving KC woke up and Jbirds here. Thoughts n prayers for all those in need and hope ya'll has a gooden

 @RobbyP

We are supposed to get about 5" also here in South Central PA.  I imagine the kiddos will want another round of sledding :)

@Jeff:

Nice back yard! I must admit that I have a certain amount of envy for the seemingly grand weather those on the swingset are enjoying!

Here comes the snow!!!!  So far there is about 2 inchs, and more to come.  4-6 to night (with ice) , and another 2-3 tomorrow.

Not much going on with me today.  I might work on the layout some more.  I added some grass  and some trees.

I guess I will go watch some snow, and tv.  Not much to do when it snows, but stay inside.

Everybody stay warm.

 Good morning.

It's 63 and cloudy. The high should be around 70 and there's a chance of rain.

If all goes to plan today will be the day I get the work on the doors of my old Walther's backwoods engine house done. For those who are familiar with this structure you know that it has two doors side by side in the front and they are extremely narrow, more narrow even than a single track tunnel portal on a straight stretch of track. My intention is to remove the section that divides them. This will enable me to run in two tracks from a turnout directly in front of the structure. To place the turnout anywhere else is completely out of the question.

Snowstorm   Morning---We are expecting up to 5" of snow by tomorrow morning. High today will be -7C with the tonight of -10C. High tomorrow will be -5C. So how is everybody?

Chloe can I get the full breakfast platter with a coffee as well please--thankyou.

I was listening last night to a rather sick turbo unit on a loco--the thing was coughing--it was so clobbered by the cold weather that it was protesting---not fun. Meanwhile my neighbour comes home from a late shift with a kitten he found in a bag---left on top of his car. He is keeping the poor fellow. I DunnoKitty 2

Today is fix and repair day---'Spring' went and tried to get on top of the bookcase, missed the shelf he wanted and brought down a stack of books---I found him under the bed hiding in a box---

Paul said: "it's supposed to freeze the next couple of days" Perhaps Paul can sing about it with lyrics such as "The ice of Texas is upon you."  WhistlingBig SmileEvil

JimCG mentioned the freezing rain in our area which has begun here in western KY. We know people in the other end of our county without power. So far, we're OK, and it's not too heavy on our road.

Weather guy on now is saying we'll have a half-inch of ice by morning in Cape G. (about a centimeter). They're also saying that some parts of our region could have up to 10" of snow by Wednesday, since they don't expect us to have any breaks in this tomorrow.

If you folks get a half inch of ice, you will undoubtedly be without power for a while.  The last major ice storm up here in the Finger Lakes we were without power for 4 days I think.  And with 10Æ of snow after the ice, you may have a real mess.  I would stay home and try to stay warm...... Good luck with this storm, Jim!

The storm is heading right toward central NY by Tuesday Night.  The Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service is saying we might get 6 to 12 " from it on Wednesday.  Hopefully without any significant Ice.

Chloe how about a mug of Hot Chocolate to warm me up?

Evening, Chloe, Jeff, Barry, Sue, Luke. Chloe, I'll have a cup of hot cocoa for now. Thanks!

My power's been holding up at home - so far. A few minutes back, I got tired of hearing the ice pellets/sleet/?? hitting the windows and/or a/c unit, so I went outside and scraped some of the clear stuff off the car windows. Figured it might perhaps make it a little easier for scraping off tomorrow morning. But I'll be greatly surprised if our office or the streets are open by then. Whistling When I was outside, three guys walked by and told me not to try driving (they had snowboards, I think - not much light out there). I told them I wasn't planning on driving until at least in the morning (at the earliest...). Weather guy on now is saying we'll have a half-inch of ice by morning in Cape G. (about a centimeter). They're also saying that some parts of our region could have up to 10" of snow by Wednesday, since they don't expect us to have any breaks in this tomorrow. A number of accidents related to the slippery stuff out tonight, but no reported injuries. Number of big truck rigs on the side of the interstate. I bet even Barry, Johnboy, or CN Charlie would have trouble driving out there tonight. Wow!!

Jeff, those cover-all-the-bases exams are such fun, aren't they? (Should I say "turn your head and cough"...? Whistling)

Luke, I like your new avatar image! Thumbs Up And you and Barry will remember what you wanted to say - it's just difficult to keep track when a mind is hungry, right?

Our utility company is reported to have hundreds of workers in the southeastern part of Missouri, just in case of any power outages. Luckily, none of those yet tonight. [whew!]  Garry - hope most of this misses you, and Inch and Jerry and Todd!

Think I'll finish thawing out some before I head for home. Chloe, could I have another cup of the hot cocoa, please? Thanks!

Blessings and a warm night,

Jim in (slippery) Cape Girardeau

Evenin’ everbody. It’s a tuff decision the MP Southern Fried Chicken is tempting but I think I’m going to go with the L&N Old Kentucky Ham. with collard greens cooked in the ham drippings a Dad’s Root Beer please.

Nothing to report today somewhat mundane. Just waitin’ around for the snow. I’m just gald it’s not freezing rain. I feel for you folks who will get it. Good luck to you.

Garry- What a view, beautiful

Ryan- Do you think you could put that Crawfish Monique on the menu sometime? That sounds delicious! Dinner

Jim- I’m with you. Stay in and hope for the best. Good Luck with the ice. We’re far enough north for snow. (So they say. So I hope)

John- I can’t disagree with the reasons given for the page problems ( mainly because he left it open) but sometimes the page is OK sometimes it’s wide and sometimes it’s REAL wide. Same page, no new posts just different times I open pageConfused. At least on MY pooter.

Ooh! Maybe I can Hibernate tomorrow. Picked up some “carmel “ paint from the “Ooopsy” shelf at the Super Dooper Wally to paint the foam. Could be a project for tomorrow.

Sawyer- Oh for crying out loud. Vanilla? When the flavor possibilities are endless? That’s like….wait, I like vanilla. Never mind. Whistling Sorry you lost. How ‘bout double chocolate fudge icing?

How about a piece of that pumpkin custard pie for dessert. With plenty of that real whipped cream and a cup of black coffee. Thank You. I’ll just slide over here in the back and rest a bit.

Good Evening Diners!

Well the forecast for this week is cold, followed by more cold and then maybe slightly less cold. The gas fireplace in the basement is now warming it up for a little couch potato time and maybe some train running. I often work on the RR and watch TV at the same time. Most shows are that involving.

Speaking of the RR, the Moritmer sub is actually starting to look like something other than, "What do you plan to do here?". I installed the gas pumps for the service station and put a few figures in place. The pumps are those JL Innovation versions. The first ones I bought were undecorated and I said " You must be kidding, paint those?" So I bought the Gulf version, old style. I don't think we had Gulf in 1958 here as it was British American(B/A) until sometime in the late '50s when they changed to Gulf, but as they say, It's my RR and I'll do as I want. If I find some Sunoco pumps, I think I'll change them. I'd really like Supertest ones but the chances of those are zero. Why am I worrying about that as I doubt anyone can read the logo?

I took a stamp collection to a collector yesterday for evaluation/purchase. The collection was my grandfathers who died in 1947 and the family always thought or hoped that it would be worth something as grandfather worked for the post office. The fellow who looked at it was very kind and showed me that indeed it was likely only worth the $100 he offered for it and at that he was generous. Oh well, that about does it for our "attic treasures". The stamp we thought was worth so much, an 1857 5cent Beaver turned out to be valued at a whole $2.

My thoughts are with all of you who have health problems or have relatives that do. It seems that lately there has been quite a few in that category but without naming names, I do read every post and can understand your worry.

Well, that about sums up my exciting life recently. I guess I should be thankful. Trains are running good and I think my nose may be soon as well but spring is coming !!! My mother told me so.

Oh and I'd like a large piece of PIE Chloe, any fruit variety would be fine, surprise me. I'm a purist when it comes to pie, only fruit filling please.

CN Charlie

Jeff, congratulations on passing your exam! Is that next exam for different stuff?

Yeah. This exam was just the regular physical. The next one is the full deal where they check for everything under the sun and some things that aren't.

Good evening all: I'll have a hot chocolate and whipped cream please, and haste to get his in before Big Bang Theory!

Have heard from Bergie about the margin stretching thing.  Here's his observations...which also have somethingto say about pasting from MS WORD for those who do.

Hi John,

When a page blows out to the right, it's typically caused by one of the following:

  • someone's forum signature image is too wide (I think 450 pixels wide is the widest)
  • some posts a URL that's super-long
  • someone embeds a photo within text (i.e. they don't use the Insert image icon, but rather hand-code it)

Since there are a variety of reasons it happens, it's hard to paint with a broad brush. I've been trying to get the word out to as many members as possible so that when they see it happen within a thread, they can ask the other member to rectify it. That's easier said than done, though.

As for the Word problem, have you tried the "Paste from Word" button within the Message tool bar? Word is know for having about 10-times as many lines of code than is actually needed. Whoever wrote this forum software must have recognized this problem, because they added this feature (the little icon with the clipboard and the W one it... first row, second from the right).

Give that a shot and let me know if it solves the problem.

Evening, Chloe - I'd like a container of chili, a chocolate chip yogurt concrete, and one apple pie to go, please. Figured I'd stock up before the storm reaches our area. Thanks! Oh, uh PC, I noticed that Luke was only offering to cover the pies, so I guess you get to pay for my dinner take-out, eh? Whistling

Both our local weatherguessers and the National Weather Service in Paducah are predicting this storm may be a bit nasssstyyyy! Shock Cape's sort of in the middle area, while those to the south of the Ohio River (as you've pointed out, Garry) may get more ice than us. We're supposed to be getting 2-3 inches of snow first, then some ice over the top of that, or ice and slush, depending on how this storm tracks. The counties south of us (some of them) are supposed to have a chance of losing power. I hope that doesn't include me, since my place is all-electric... But the maps they've been showing don't include Cape County, so I'm trusting for that. We're at 27 F and supposed to drop to 25 F tonight. Current wind chill is 17 F, and they're saying this may not melt soon, as we're not supposed to get above freezing until Thursday.Oops

I won't be going to MRR club tonight, and from some emails from others I've seen, there may not be anyone else going until next week. Tonight, I may do some reading of my Feb. MR and new MRP 2009, as well as fiddle some with my layout planning software.

I got in my most recent auction purchases today - some Magnuson trucks - Divco mail truck, Mack R series truck tractor, and REA delivery truck. I'm not sure yet if the REA does, but the other kits make two trucks each, so the residents along the CAW RR will have milk and package deliveries, and our trucking companies will be able to haul more long-distance loads, too. Smile

It was exceptionally quiet today at w**k, because somehow our phone and internet connections died on us in the morning. From what I overheard of our IT head alpha geek (talking to the other IT guys), sounded like AT&T and Charter were arguing about whose fault it was (which likely means that it'll be a while, even after the storm stuff gets cleaned up). PC, maybe they should hire out you to get things straightened out.

Jeff, congratulations on passing your exam! Is that next exam for different stuff?

Ryan - that 30 percent is the most that I recall the (closing) LHS ever marked down their prices. Before, most of their stuff was at straight retail prices, and it was only the past 3 to 6 months that they had a (one-time per month) card/coupon for 10 percent (at first) or 20 percent (in Dec.). And by comparison, our MRR club member/LHS-down-the-road-a-bit owner will special order whatever we want from Walthers or Horizon Hobby, for around 10 percent over his cost (including shipping). The in-town LHS also said (time before they came out with the store closing discount) that they weren't going to be carrying much in the way of MRR'ing stuff anymore. That put the nail in the coffin of my purchases there, except for the last purchases on Sat. They're okay people, but they haven't considered themselves a hobby shop much of the 30 years they've been there.

Did any of our cat-owned Diners (note the correct wording...) see the last segment on the CBS evening news tonight (6 p.m. Central time)? They had a guy who had made millions, and is using a chunk of it for a cat sanctuary (for cats that were in danger of being put down, etc.). He has all kinds of cats, a huge place for them to roam/play in, and even has physical therapy for cats with problems with their legs or other physical difficulties. Really touching!

Ray, I'm sorry 'bout letting the Diner slip earlier - our internet connection was out, and I couldn't get to the Diner until after w**k. If the power stays up, I'll try to make sure that doesn't happen again today...

I'll sit at the counter until my order's ready to take home. Don't want to push my luck by staying too late and get stuck on the way home. Prayers will continue, with or without power. AngelAngel

Blessings and stay warm tonight,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
