Afternoon Gang: It's cool here. Well comparetively speaking. It's 91 and cloudy with a breeze and rain in the area. We got a couple of sprinkels so far and they are predicting more tonight and tomrrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
The great turttle rescue is about wrapped up. My 11yr old granddaughter and I went into the pit this morning and got another 13 out. Mary Ann and 2yr old GD pulled the buckets of turttles out and we hauled them to the creek. That is over 200 of the things that the girls have saved. No we didn't make turttle soup.
RT that's great what you are doing at the VA. Keep up the good work.
Rob I know that feeling about the wife. Every so often I have to make sure that Mary Ann is OK. I don't know what I'd do if I lost her.
Terry do the tour if you feel up to it. If some folks can't handle your writting out notes to answere there questions that's there loss. Some folks are just like that. Me I'd really appreaciate the effort that you'd be making.
Well I need to get going and haul some brush that John cut the other day.
Terry said ..."I've been wondering if i should be on the home layout tour this year
Since i've had my larynx removed i can't talk so i would have to write notes to the visitors
which doesn't bother me but some people don't like it and become impatient
Guess I'll go to the back booth and think about it "
Terry .... I'm really sorry to learn about your laynx having been removed. I was not a ware of that. I hope you can include your layout on the tour. I would think you could find at least one person to help out.
RT ........ The VA hospital will soon be renamed "The Roundhouse" if you keep that up!... Are you limited to N scale?
Colby ..... I also like the CN 4-8-2.
Happy Model Railorading, Everybody.

I accually have about 10 interested right now but mainly been working with the one gentleman. It was his birthday the day of the interview ( none new that until about 3 days after interview was set up ( at which point I thought it was local paper yet) Any way day of interview I brought him in the train station to add to layout . For you that remember the n scale set I got about a year ago well now you see where it is and I'm back to my O gauge trains I'm also trying to get a free subcription to model railroader to the ward that he is in. There acually 2 wards theres 3 east and 3 south that have paients that thats where they live its a extended living facility ( nursing home ( but VA doesn't use that term) on 3 south they even have a cat that lives there.
Need to get more info on getting a club going have to find what type of intrest and what gauge I'm pushing for either HO or O as both woulod be easier to handle than n for our older folks there and some have problems handling small items. S wouldn't be bad either as there are a few companies making s again.

Woke up early to the sound of more construction. Then had to get out of bed to reset a breaker they threw. We picked up half the tiles today and will try to get the rest sometime tomorrow. Have to go unload the pickup now.
Oh, last night I didn't hear my wife breathing, reached over and her arm was ice cold. Needless to say, that was a shock and when I called out her name she stirred and said "What?" Her arm was cold because she had been laying on it. I was quite relieved, to say the least.
Have a good day all. Rob

Morning folks!
Me and the misses spent some time in the yard this weekend with the cooler than normal temps and we even got a little rain too. Here are some of the herbs that we grow in our front yard area:
Anyone interested in winning a jar of my spice mix, enter the Select an Edible Plant Contest on my cooking site. Just register on my CCR site and submit an entry.
There is a NEW model railroad site up that is up and running and I have been contributing to since early last year and now it's finally open for public access. It is http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/ and will start a free online magazine in January 2009. One of my article tutorials on 3rd PlanIT is going to be a feature in the premier issue, check it out when you get a chance. They also have a great video interview on the MS Train Simulator 2 scheduled for release during the holidays of 2009, almost 15 months from now. Also, there are many great videos from the NMRA Convention from last month.
Now to play a little catch em ups from page 9...
Great speeding framing up going on there Rob! Oh, and just let us known when to fire up the BBQ grills!
Dick, a rib snorter TS huh! Been quite a while since we seen any like that! Sounds like you made it through okay however.
That roast beef dinner looked really good Jim! Oh and you were unawares of our dancing shoes were ya? Well, me and the misses have been dancing our soles off for years now, started out with country and Cajun dancing and have also taken lessons for east and west coast swing, Carolina Shag and the various ballroom dancing too! BTW, I like those figures you picked up at the lobby!
Nice brass you got there Fergie!
Garry, that "Fat Family" story sure is strange, and sad to hear about that, but that family sounds a bit dysfunctional. They may need medical help in more ways than one!
Seafood gumbo for TrainsRme1! Great dinner choice...
Morgan, sorry to hear about the windows, vandalism is no fun at all! Oh, and thanks for the photos too, but some of them were moved or deleted from Photobucket!
Hoople is going to have a BD soon eh......thanks for the warning!
I see PC has been busy with his camera again! Great photos too!
Nice article link Duke! Apex is only 54 +/- days.....
Even more photos from Lee now! WOW, is this the new WPF thread? Looks like Lee has been up to a lot of MR'ing....
Der John, I like the saw horses set up for the current wood work going on the layout!
Paul you sure have had more than your share of hot temps. Hope it cools down for ya soon.
Jerry got TOPS honors yesterday I see! And the fried chicken legs and thighs, Mashed taters, Gravy, corn on the cob and a big slice of Chocolate pie sounds like a really hearty meal too!

WOW, what a great story RT! You have the best heart and soul of any man that I know RT! You really are an angel! Congratulations and all the best on starting your club at the VA! I bet MR would love to add that story to their "Bring Trains to Work" day promotion.

Thanks Jeff. That beauty set me back $100.
It was $150 but the hobby shop owner gave it to me for a 100 used. btw here is the story that goes with that, if ur woundering.
earlier this month I called Maine Trains (the hobby shop in Kezar Falls) and asked if they did locomotive repairs, cause I had a few locos that needed to see the doc. A few days later my mom was able to get rid of my younger brother for the day and so we headed to kezar falls, hour and a half away. We get there I talk with the guy, he takes a look at the locos and the problems they had were gone.
We tested them on his layout and they didn't have any of the problems that they had before. after that, I ask him what are the best ways to keep track clean, why does my train slow to a crawl when it gets to the other side of my layout when it was going fine, and do you have any steam locos that will take a 18" radi curve.
So after a little searching I find CN 6060 sitting on shelf. the rest is well history.
JR, that sounds like a lot of tailfins running around the track, any pictures?
Terry, sorry to hear about your larynx, but if your friends get impatient with you writing notes, well that doesn't sound like their too good of a friend. Will you be able to get an external voice box or is there a reconstruction surgery they can perform?
Has anyone built and used the rotary car dump from Walther's? I'm thinking about using my hoppers to carry live loads. Load at the coal mine, dump at the coal docks and the power plant. Anyone have some advice?

I've been wondering if i should be on the home layout tour this year
Guess I'll go to the back booth and think about it
Good Morning All,
Weathers the same here every day. Foggy and cool in the morning then sunny and hot from noon on. Mind you that's not a complaint.
First weekend went well with one driver learning the circuit and the one that lives out here (L.A. actually) helping him. Qualified third and sixth finished fourth and eighth as others leaned tings as well. Looks like next week will be good as they split into more groups and we have three groups of Formula Juniors each with about thirty cars each divided by era (57 & 58 - 59 & 60 - 61 t0 63). Today we go back out and start prepping the cars for the coming weekend.
RT - nice job ! and a good plug for model railroading as well. Some well deserved publicity.
Gotta run time for the trip to the track. CUL, J.R.

Good morning. It's 80 and mostly cloudy. The high today should be in the upper 80's and there's a good chance of thunderstorms later. Maybe we'll even get some rain.I spent part of yesterday clearing the assorted junk off the layout. The biggest problem with that is finding another place to put it. I also regeared a P2K loco that had a main drive gear with a broken tooth. Summer is almost over, I've made some money this summer as a lifeguard, didn't save anyone, added a new siding to my layout and a new engine, done some track work, some sleepless nights, and missed out on a lot of trackside dinner reading.
btw say hello to my little friend! CN. 4-8-2. 6060

WOW!.................. RT that's terrific! ............
Please keep us informed of the progress. .......
***RT...
Our good deed was to give away an old car to a friend of the wife's from work. They needed one and the old Roadmaster was only providing shade to the weeds growing around it. Wife was glad to get the gas-guzzler out of the yard while helping out a friend. Belonged to her Dad originally, prior to his stroke.
Going to watch some TV awhile. Good night all. Rob
very cool RT! Very Cool!
evening all haven't posted much as for the past 96 hours (well exactly scince thursday at 7 am) I have worked 48 hours ( accually should say 52 as had to take 2 30 minute breaks each day one at 11 and another at 3:30.) So I'm on the tired side but I'm off tomorrow and they were hinting that they needed someone tomorrow from 4-8 pm but I passed on it .

Pouring down rain here and 60F (burr-chill)! Jeff if you run out of rain give me a call I'll send some down to you!
Jerry, that is a Walther's ice house and platform kit (even came with blocks of ice). Minus paint drying time that is a model you can assemble in 1-2 hours. I have a total of 45 hoppers, 31 ore cars, and 21 gondolas. I'm not sure how many I can drag at a time, but several of the industries will need these at their spurs. Coal and Iron Ore are the two prime commodities moved on my line.
Jim thanks. Dale and Alex will be over in the morning and they are more into: teach me how to....... So if there is soldering or track adjustments needed we can get those out of the way before the second group shows up.
I examined 3 vessels today and it started pouring cats and dogs as soon as I opened my pen, go figure!
if you get the chance check out the paper flagman PG 106 in Model Railroader or visit www.railsonwheels.com/ors It's like a flat Stanley for switching operations.
A tall glass of cool water, please.
***Jim, the fence is in real bad shape along that one area. About a dozen or so new posts aught to do it. Thank goodness their bull is on the creek side and has a steep back to keep him from making a go at the fence. One more thing to add it to my list.
Rob
Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a burger,
cheesey fries
and a root beer float, please.
Thanks!
A beautiful day in Cape Girardeau today - only 85 F now, with humidity down in the low 40 percent or so. Nice breezes last night, too!
Rob, I like your thinking there on my buying habits. I do have another pickup and some IH R-190 flatbed trucks to haul some of the equipment in - but as you say, if I get more workers... Sounds like your li'l bull has some spunk to him, huh? Have he and the neighbor's bull gotten into it before, or was it that the fence used to be in better shape before the two of them got to fussing at each other?
Lee, I like your yard there! Of course, I also like your sanding and fueling station, and your string of ore cars, and... Hope you get all of Murphy's leftovers cleaned out before your 'show' evening.
(Shhhh!!) , sorry Duke. Didn't mean to wake you again. Go back to (Gee, he falls back to sleep quickly...) That turntable modification that Duke found and posted was another one than I recalled, so I'll have to check and see if I have the one I was thinking of, stored on my 'puter.
TransRMe1, I checked H-L's map, and you'd have to go to Montana, Utah, or Wyoming for a Hobby Lobby 'fairly close' to you (and we're playing fast and loose with the definition of 'fairly close' there). They have the eastern three-quarters of the US covered, but for whatever reason, none on the west coast. If you really want to go to a H-L, the Montana one is in Billings, and in Utah there're three, with one in Logan. Sorry!
PC, that's a great sign to keep parents on top of where their kids are at all times.
Jeff, what've you got going this afternoon - did Lee inspire you to go back and clean up some areas on your layout, or do you have other projects on the list?
I'll join Terry in the back booth - hey, Terry! We better keep it down, or we'll wake up Grumpy... Hope everyone's having a useful and productive weekend so far.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
