Evening folks.

I'm having a BLOT tonight.

That's a BLT with Onion in the middle!

These days anything I eat will have a tomato in there somewhere!

Franken-mato the second (the big juicy ones not the grapes from the massive single grape tomato plant) is giving us lots of babies, too. Softball sized giants.

Seems quiet in here tonight.

Regardless of what the timer here says, this is being posted about 9pm EDT Sunday night.

Rest well, tonight guys- tomorrow is another week.

Afternoon, Flo - just a root beer float, please.

Thanks.

First off, Diners, it is my daughter's (27th, but who's counting...) Happy B-Day [bday] today, so a tip of the mug to her. Smile [:)] I'll be going over after supper this evening to see her and her family. Talked with her a little on the phone a few minutes ago. They were out for dinner.

I've cooled down since last night's WiFi fiasco (and wrote Panera my email of 'appreciation' for their connection's annoying habit). This time, I'll be saving the text of my post before I try to send it...  [Edit]: of course, since I did that, no problems. Mr. Murphy again?

Tom, your and Flashwave's talking about steam engines got me thinking about the Mikado I still want for my layout (okay, maybe a little lusting after it, too). I've had a search going on the 'Bay for the Athearn Genesis Mikado (and results sent to me via email daily), but got interested also when I noticed (while I was putting together my order at Dallas Model Works) a BLI USRA Light Mikado that they are taking advance reservations on. Haven't seen the price yet. Oops [oops]

Oh, I did notice in an email from BLI/Factory Direct Trains, that they have a (bit pricey for me) Woodland Scenics Built-&-Ready factory on special. Called American Metals, and it looks kind of like their Barrel Factory, but with an Imex flatbed-and-stakes truck and their Loading Dock figures. The factory building is a lot like the Lauble Linen Mill kit (and I have one of those, plus one assembled), and I already have the dock figures plus a Classic Metal Works truck and a GC Laser kit for a stakebed back for that. Oops [oops], looks like another project!

Rob, sending you an email on your question with some (partial) answers. Let me know if you have other questions.

Jerry, hope you get all rested up so you can enjoy the grandkids tonight. Yeah!! [yeah] Paul, you probably are resting up from being with your grandchild last night.Zzz [zzz]

Tom, sounds like Lowell could be around for a while yet (if he doesn't eat you out of house and home with the sardine and Gerber's bills Whistling [:-^])

JP, are those all house open houses today? Talk about a marathon! Best wishes on seeing something that meets your needs (and is within your budget).Thumbs Up [tup]

Luc, thanks for posting that 50's menu - just the prices I needed to set up a sandwich board out front of my diner when I get it built! Just the right time period, too!Cool [8D]

Yesterday I went by the 'down-the-road' LHS, and got another Santa Fe 50' flatcar, the Walthers track scales kit, and another freight car (that I can't recall now - should've taken my pre-ORF nap, I guess...). Got an email today from the MRR club member/LHS owner, that he has a backordered DPM modular walls kit in. I don't even recall ordering DPM modular stuff for some months, and had given up and bought several of the wall kits off the 'Bay since then. Wish Walthers could get their backorders in a bit quicker than this. I may have to go back to cancelling my backorders if they take more than a couple or three weeks to refill.

Ironic/humorous side note - when I was talking with daughter on the phone today, she said "Guess what?" She said my ex-fiance (from, let's see, 12 to 14 years ago, I guess) will be working in one of the same buildings Sarah will work in this next school year. From what Sarah said was the woman's current last name, apparently she's married a third time. Oops [oops] Wonder what the ex-fiance's reaction will be when she realizes who Sarah is? Life can be funny (weird) at times.Alien [alien]

This afternoon, our church has rented out the recreation center at our local university for a 'Family Day' from 4 to 7 p.m., with full use of their pool (which has a  zip line on it), climbing wall, volleyball courts, etc. and it's only $2 for single persons, $5 for families. That includes sodas, chips and pizza. I'll probably pass on the climbing wall, but the volleyball sounds good to me...Wink [;)]

I'll sit a spell with my RBF. Don't want to fill up before the pizzas, chips and sodas. Big Smile [:D]

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good day gang!

Paul - the gondolas behind that flatcar were full with old ties, so my guess is that the excavator was on top of the cars loading them w/ the old used ties. Not sure where they came from, but I do know that over the last year or so, CSX has been laying new track and ties in the yard here.

Tom - Glad to hear that Lowell is doing fine!

Galaxy - So, that's CP's yard that I see off to the west of 81 near Conklin when I go to PA? Hmm....

Hour to go before I ahve to leave for 5 open houses today!

Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Good morning.

It's 73 and partly cloudy. The high today is expected to be around 90 with a chance of thunderstorms.

Yesterday I finished up the mowing then helped my nephew wire up the lights on his car trailer. The danged things didn't want to act right. We connected every wire just as they should be and the lights still wouldn't do what they were supposed to do. The running lights would work OK until until a turn signal was turned on then all the lights would start flashing. We back tracked all the connections and finally found the problem. It was a bad connection in the plug, which was brand new. We put another plug on and everything works great now.

NO YOU DIDN'T SAY THAT, AARGH, THAT MEANS I'LL HAVE TO GET ONE!!! Or at least the skyline casing for my kitbashing project on my spectrum mountain... Wait, You're doing the same thing? Wow, great minds think alike. I was going to make my 4367 into 4388, the only MT-2 with a vandy tender (It's original got smashed) Just so you know, the MT-2s had Elesco smokebox mountain water heater systems... The yardbirds have a decent kit for one.

Anyways, Guess what I did for the last half hour? I looked for a little screw that holds the pilot on my challenger... It decided to fall off. I found it where I put the challenger hiding between ties... Knock on wood...

And, the cowboys are playing tonight at 6 pacific time, against the broncos on CW 11... Yeeahaw! Can't wait for that.

Today is an interesting day. For sure.

Holy Cow, I'm doing the same THING!!  #4388, the only MT-2 with the semi-Vandy tender (actually, I think it's called an SP-1 or a semi-Hinkle, or something like that).  Got the stack and domes from PSC, along with the Elesco.  Got it almost finished, but it sure needs a skyline casing--so I hope that Genesis comes out with a separate casting and one that I can adapt to that doggone Elesco!  I've got a photograph of her up at Norden near Donner Pass (how she got up there is beyond me) and with the Skyline and the Elesco, she looks as if she's got the world's biggest 'cowlick,' LOL.   Had a Devil of a time trying to mount the pump right above the cylinder on the engineer's side, finally gave up and mounted it back toward the firebox.

Yah, well--I guess Great Minds DO Think Alike, my friend.  I don't know about you, but that Spectrum of mine sure hauls a BOATLOAD of cars!  Nice loco.  If mine works out, I'll have one each of the MT's except the MT-1.  Actually, my favorite of the classes is still my Balboa brass MT-4, it seems to be the one where everything came together RIGHT.   I know Espee sure liked them.  But even being primarily a Rio Grande man, I think that Espee had the handsomest 4-8-2's of almost any railroad I've yet seen.

Tom Big Smile [:D]

I believe the tender is called a "Hicken" vanderbuilt tender. I'd love to see the picture that you have, the only picture I've seen of an MT-2 is just the front of the smokebox. I'd also love to see pictures of your kitbash, lol. I just need to fix my mountain (ruddy orange plugs decided to kill themselves) and then I'll be good. I think I will get that MT4.

IGood evening from the land of the Sore and bruised. I'll take a glas sof milk and some rtoom to do some homework. Seven days now I;ve done the Fairtrain. I come home and hurt, every part of the body aches from all the rocking and standing. And yet, I still have the big goofy grin from Day 1 just thinking about the next day. This is where I should be. So today we had boyscouts helping wth the strollers (OH THANK GOD but there late) And I met one who is also wanting to get into railroading. After I realized I was in his way of doing what I wanted to be doing, I handed him my hat and turned over the car to him. We may have a new car attendant next year I suspect. Went to the fair today for an hour and a half. Had a good BBQ Puleld Pork sabndwhich, and some Icecream. One opf the boothes jhas a G scale on top of it, and Butler University has a Garden they set up. With a garden Railway. Yep, it's puleld by an SP. Pics later when I get te algebra done. School started Thursday...

Hello Folks:  I'm on completely 1:1 scale train-less Prince Edward Island for a brief vacation with Kris and her mom (92 next month).  We are however not Diner-less, as just up thte road from our motel is a genuine inpbusiness-since the-50s Starlite Diner.  This evening Kris had the Little Richie dinner, and I had the Big Bopper. They were outstanding! Unfortunately the Juke Box was down for repair, but otherwise all was authentic.  the prices didn't match Tippon Bill's daily offering of course, but that would be too much to ask! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/wetidlerjr/Diner/menu_breakfast_1.jpg   We took some pics, but they are on 35 mm film since we left the digital camera at home, and had to get a throw away at the gas station next to the Diner (Ellen wants photos to send to friends too)

Jeff:

Taking the bent one off and putting the new one on took only 15 minutes.
Saw a chap today more or less under his riding mower while driving around today...so you were not alone, it seems!Big Smile [:D]

Colby, Nope, the layout continues to be at a standstill.  Life keeps getting in the way.
...it does, doesn't it?....Like now Ihave to get off this 'puter in the motel lobby as there is aline forming! Thumbs Down [tdn]

I'll say goodnight then, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort or peace.Angel [angel]

Jerry get some rest, I'm glad you're feeling better.

Jeff, that's something about the lawnmower blade.

Paul, that's something special about the helo and the museum.

I made it to the NSLHS today after dropping off 1400 pounds of pea gravel at my house and my GF's.  The backdrop building "Plant #4" is on sale this month only $19. So I bought:

Plant No. 4 933-3183

Commissary/Freight transfer building 933-3173

Background 949-711 (Freight Yard) and 949-713 (The Docks)

I hope to convert 933-3173 as a cannery-food packing plant and No.4 as part of the candy factory.  So I think I'm good on projects for a while.  I have the 8 cabooses finished and waiting for the clear coat to dry.

SoapBox [soapbox] Well, I had just spent at least 30 minutes writing my post and went to send it, and Panera's lovely (recently revised) WiFi takes me to their login again (and loses its place, so I wasted all that time). Am I going to have to resort to composing with another program, and then go through copy-and-paste and check the post again in the forum's software? Sheesh! It was a good day here until that happened. I think I'll go sulk in the window booth for now...

refill, please & thanks. Tomorrow I will be down to 1 cup for the day.

***Paul, if you feel "that old" and wish to become part of that neat monument, you could always look into freeze drying yourself. However, we would rather have you around for a long time yet. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

***Tom, glad Lowell is doing well. The last time I was in a canoe was for a five day trip down the Colorado river. Was a wonderful experience. Love canoes, kayaks, rafts, etc..., at least when I was still healthy enough to enjoy them.

After the work crew left, I re-routed the dryer vent ducting through a hole I cut into the space for the future door (between the train room and workshop). I see no reason to start driving into town to use a laundry mat for an unknown period of time. Not sure what to do with the water vent pipe, that was used for the washer & kitchen sink. It got cut off and sealed, too. Looks like the build will be far enough along to bring in the electrician and plumber in the next week or so. The plumber can fix whatever needs fixing at that time.

Going to go rest awhile. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

For sure.

Afternoon all--

Just got Lowell back from his 'daily dose' (and no, the cute assistant wasn't there today) and the Vet's wife was on duty today (she's also a Vet:  How they met is quite a story in itself) and was very pleased at how 'perky' the little fellow was.  "What's he eating?"  "Gerbers baby food and Norwegian sardines,"  I said.  "In OIL?"  "No, water."  She breathed a sigh of relief.  Lowell muttered, anxious to get home and bury his nose in said sardines.  I can't STAND those things, and he's going through them like a bulldozer.  Hey, whatever works!  Tongue [:P]

Leah, my choral director at school and her boy-friend came over a couple of hours ago, she wanted to go over this semester's repertoire with me.  Her boyfriend is a pretty neat guy, but he's kind of a 'rivet-counter'--especially for a non-model railroader-- and as I was showing them what I'd accomplished this summer on the MR, he looked at my new canoes on Bullard's Bar Lake and told me that the two kids fishing from one of them would probably tip it over in real life.  I grinned, told him I'd been canoeing since I was 12 and had never tipped one over in my life, fishing or not.  Leah just laughed and told her boyfriend that he'd been watching LAST OF THE MOHICANS too much, LOL!

Was over at the LHS yesterday, and Bruce told me my Z-6 should be in sometime in October.  Getting ITCHY!  He also showed me train show photos of the new Genesis Espee MT-4 Mountain, which is going to have a separate snap-on Espee Skyline Casing.  Which looks really cool to me.  I already have an MT-4 (brass Balboa), but I sure could use a Skyline Casing for the MT-2 that I've kinda-sorta kitbashed from a Spectrum Heavy Mountain.  Hopefully, Genesis will offer the casing separately.

Is there ever an END to MR projects? Shock [:O]

Nice day today, it's cooled down to the mid '90's--which considering what it's been like this past week is like an early Fall.  Going to spend the afternoon out on the MR, see what kind of trouble I can get into.  I've got so darned many half-done projects that I think I'll just run trains, today.  Blush [:I]  But I've got to remember to quit a little early this evening to see if our boy Michael wins his 8th Gold Medal.  That one yesterday was a REAL heart-stopper!  I still say he was born with gills.

Have a great day, everyone.  Prayers to those in need.

Tom Big Smile [:D]

Afternoon All: I just got back from the National Museum of the Viet Nam War. Well the place where it will be built. They put a Huey on a high mount at the entrance. It turned out the the Huey was once with the company that I was flying with some 42 years ago. Three of the guys that were in the company were also ther so we had a mini reunion. All went well untill they went to start athe crane to lift the Huey into place. The crane wouldn't start. A bunch of the guys were all but tearing the engine apart when someone looked in the cab and found that someone had put the transmission in drive. Dhooooo. Anyway the crain started and everything ent as planned after that. Say does the fact that an aircraft that I flew is now a museum piece mean that I am also? Excuse me I feel old and should lie down.

The No 1 granddaughter is 12yrs old today so a party is in order shortly. Tonight we are running at the track so I may really take a nap.

See you all later.

Morning all!

Well, it's supposed to be just beautiful out this weekend!  Low humidity, nice sunny days........

You really can't ask for more!

Colby, Nope, the layout continues to be at a standstill.  Life keeps getting in the way.  Working more has allowed me to make some purchases that will make nice projects this winter though (if time allows).

Good morning all,

Tom the military train sounds cool.

If you guys ever decide to put used items up for reassignment, HO or N scale shoot me an email.  I live between NMRA Divisions 4 &5, N scale and HO I might be able to find a road to put it on.

I might journey to the not so local hobby store today to look at back drop buildings and pick up some micro paint brushes.  I want to build a chocolate factory and a food canning industry on the north side of the layout.

GMT, those cabooses you gave me are getting a makeover this weekend; new couplers, fresh paint and some LS&W heralds.

Jeff tell your sister happy birthday from us.
