Good Evening All,
Just rushing through on my way from here to there and thought a root beer float would be good. But it's Marks' birthday and BONUS we have cake. I'll have a slice of the birthday boys cake and Mark - Happpy Birthday! Could be a tough day - wish for drum kit stuff, wish for train stuff - hmmm. maybe some of both to compromise, eh?
warm and dry here unlike Dick just north of us. Still scrambling to get cars done for the next few weekends so I'd better finish wolfing down the cake grab the RBF and vamoose. J.R.

Yum!, I'll think I'll have that too!

Ooops! Looks like I got top honors! Eat up!
Here's some pics I've gotten while railfaning a couple of days ago. I fixed them up with a B&W filter.:
I'll have a root beer float please!
Enjoy! I'll be in the corner booth, watching trains and designing a Conrail layout. I'll welcome anyones company/ help!
Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a BLT and an RBF, please. Thanks, OzarkBelt! (Got drawn in by the cake, and wound up with the TOTP, he did.) And a to Mark. That cake looks yummy! To be sure we had enough cake, Zoe said the cook made a second one to tide us over:
Garry, good to hear you had a quiet night. I see others... (to borrow a phrase from Vinnie's 'playbook') have offered their "services" to help with Bubba. Take your time, and rest up as needed till you build your strength up enough. For now, an hour and a half could be enough to finish off a few articles in your MR issue, right?
Birthday 'boy' Mark - any plans for your birthday? Trip to the LHS, say...?
PMeyer, to the Diner. You'll have to ask one of our virtual servers (Zoe or Chloe, the twins, usually) where the 'adult' stuff like that is hidden. They keep it out of the way of our younger patrons. (oh, I see Ryan spilled the beans...) So, tell us about yourself and your layout (or plans for same) - any particular RR you follow, time period modelled, how far along on building yours, etc. Stop by whenever you can, the place pretty much never closes, except on the rare occasion when they ask us to move it down the tracks a bit.

Yah, right... And how many of us have said that to ourselves or others? Rob, hope you keep your builders on track for a great (and well-insulated) house. Keep 'em on their toes. How're your critters doing?
Lee, your comment from the gal on the auction item is a lot like one I got from a guy who I'd written and asked what his reasons were for a minimum bid of $80 on a resin kit vs. a comparable Walthers one: "Buy the Walthers kit." (end of email quote...) I guess the old saying fits on the 'Bay too: "A sucker (or collector) and his money are soon parted." She's just proud of that l'il thing!
Ryan, my idea is, if it isn't a brand new auto and it's on my layout, it needs weathering! (and even some new autos need weathering) You have to be more careful about tipping your hand in front of Chloe - she thought you didn't know where the stash was kept.
Paul, hope your garden continues to be fruitful...
Rainy here today - Mark and Sue would feel right at home in Missouri today. Grey morning, couple of downpours and general soaking rain most of the rest of the morning, and just now starting to clear up some (but not there yet).
I'll squeeze in the window booth for now - want to be out of PC's path to the pie on the counter there. Prayers for continued healing for Jeff's Mom, Garry, and everyone else in need of them.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Thanks all for the birthday wishes!
I brought my own cake. And pie. For PC, you know.
French vanilla ice cream cake is good. Which Is why I brought one.
Enjoy!

Well, Ben had baseball practice last night and while on 2nd base he missed a grounder that hopped up and hit em just above the lip and on the left side of his nose. He's got a big scar there now and cut the inside of his lip. He said he got knocked out and blacked out for a few seconds there, another sports injury!
Thanks Terry for the compliment on the details and such! I really like the Mt. Hope Station, great thread too!
Garry that really sounds like the last thing you need to be dealing with right now! Some people huh! And I like Rob's offer, take em up on it! Hehehehe...
Congratulations Packers#1, what position(s) will you play?
Jim thanks! You are right about the weathering, both are still a work in progress, touch ups still needed on both too! BTW, good luck and work tomorrow!
JP Congratulations are in order for the new house! I can see the wheels a turnin on how you going to fill up that basement or garage!
Rob has work on the new construction going up like gang busters....
Paul you must be getting a good suntan with all that outdoor work on the fences!

Hello everybody....
Happy Birthday to Mark....... I bet Mark wants cake and not pie if I rember correctly. Waht kind of cake, Mark?
Nobody followed through on threats to burn our place down last night. Neighbors accross our small bay have a clear view and are watching for suspicious activity. All outside lights were on last night.
Again, I'm really thankful to all of you for your thoughts and prayers regarding my hospitalization for abnormal heart rhythm and heart failure that was nearly fatal last week. You kindness means a lot to me. I'm certainly thankful for God's mercy, and I'm thinking a lot about stuff now. I can still only be up for about 1 1/2 hours before I need rest. The layout remains idle.
Happy Model Railroading.

Good morning all,
Garry, my Grandmother had a similar incident over a rent to own property I wish you luck in dealing with yours.
Jeff, I would like to see how you wire those units up, I've been wondering if what you described was possible with 2 steam locomotives I plan on teaming up with a draw bar. It doesn't look like I'll be able to make the switch to DCC until tax time.
Packers#1 Congratulations! What position?
Jim, Historically metals were banned from use in the model train industry during WWII and companies did what they could to keep their foot in the MR market. Lionel sold paper trains, I wonder if his wood locomotive was a true "war relief" if so that would defiantly put it in the rare - vintage - historical category. I'm not old enough either J
Speaking of rare-vintage; the gal responded to my email last night. Her vision of a $79 starting bid on that MKT AHM plastic box car was "in stores they cost $35 and this item is an antique collector's item in the original box, you are obviously not a collector".
Rob, back when I worked construction we didn't tape the bottom of the window, but we did lay a piece of felt paper down (in the window jam) and then installed the window. We built high energy savings homes, the last house I worked on the local university brought in a fan door this blew out all the air in the house and an inspector walked around with a smoke stick (dry ice wand) looking for drafts; the picture window in the living room cracked inwards after running the fan for 2 hours. The house was so air tight we had to install a Vent in the basement hooked to the furnace intake to supply fresh air to the house.

So I see Mark is wishing himself a Happy Birthday huh? Must be he's trying to tell us that today is his birthday. Chloe - Is it too late to request a birthday cake be made this morning for Mark? No???? Cool! Let us know what the tab for it will be and I'm sure the gang will be more than willing to chip in some extra $$$$ for it! Happy Birthday Mark!
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
RATS *&^!!!!!!!!!!! Sure, I hit post, and it returns a blank message box and no posting of the post! GGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways, Good morning gang, again!
I am thinking that shortly after I move in, I may have the kitchen remodeled. Reasons being, there's no dishwasher, alot of unused wall space, few cabinets, and I'd like the appliances to match. Depending on $$$$$ , I'm trying for Stainless Steel appliances. One positive to the kitchen is that it's equiped w/ a gas stove, which as a cook, I love! Plus, I could use a pantry in it someplace, and there currently is none. So, I think part of today will be spent at Lowe's and Home Depot pricing cabinets and appliances.
As for the MR front, I got the Athearn New Release email yesterday, and have to go to the LHS and see Bill (the owner) and place my order. So far, it consists of a Conrail SD50, the WSOR/MR75th Anniversary Car, and a 3rd item. Thankfully they won't be delivered till February, so I have time to save up for this purchase.
Well gang, time for me to get going and do some exercise.
Good Morning from Tipton IN !

I'll see you people in several hours.
Good night.
***Dick, they are using house wrap, although not (IMO) as good a product as TyVek, which is what we did my studio in. Nope, they did not tape any windows. The ones under the porch will not see any severe weather, so I can live with that, but the others certainly should be, I think. Upon doing some research, I found that it is custom to tape the sides and top only of windows. If memory serves me, I did all four sides on the studio windows. Anyway, guess I'll need to start watching the contractor who is watch the workers.
Need to hit the hay. Have a lame horse in a stall to check on early. Night all. Rob
It's late. Got any scotch?
Good morning......2 minutes after midnight east coast, so I guess that makes it Friday already. Been real busy here now that the rains and TS's have stopped. A BIG Canadian High pressure system has finally settled over the area and we have had 4 days with no rain and at least 7 more to come so they say. The garden is really producing now after all the rains this summer, and finally full sunlight for days and days and late August daylight.
And I have been working on the front of the former single garage entrance on the front of the house. The old wall was taken down and a new 2x6 wall installed as well as a new Marvin window that will be far more efficient this winter, and a new full size door instead of the 75" height door. I couldn't find any hardboard siding anywhere, so I had to have a lumber yard mill down 1X10's to make 5 boards to complete the siding. The house needs painting, so with the new front down, that made a perfect time to do that.
I don't like being up so high on ladders anymore, not because of fear of height, but fear of my knees!! The list of projects is still high.
JIM: Yes, you guessed right, too many projects got delayed due to the rainy weather here this summer. I try to stop in the Diner, but as you can see it's midnight, and I am on the computer for the 1st time today, or is that yesterday.
FERGIE: Yup, the guys are having trouble with the Jay's, I just can't figure out WHY the darn Jay's can't beat Tampa!!!!!!!!!!! The long range forecast is out for the Winter. Much colder over most of the area, so how is your wood supply? Or do you burn dried seaweed? LOL
ROB: Yes, the contractors ARE cutting corners. The window that I just installed called for rubber tape around the whole window, and flashing at the top also. And I also installed DOW house wrap paper, I hope your contractors are doing that also before they install the siding.
DUKE: WOW, I love that mountain layout photo, is that impressive or what???!!!
JEFF: Glad to hear that mom is back home, I know that she will do fine with you to take care of her.
I am dead tired, so I am headed for the sack, temp is now 60F, so excellent sleeping weather once again tonight.
I brewed another pot of coffee for any late comers to the Diner...see you guys later,
Evening Gang: My feet ae better today: I went by Wally World and picked up a pair of arch support in soles. They seem to help.
Garry there is a tree on my sons place that was used to take care of people like that. Good thing that the sheriff is taking care of it for you. You do need to lie the neighbors know what is going on. The more eyes, the better.
I spent the day working on fences. The fence by the road that we cleared all the brush from is in sad shape. I patched it up so the cows won't get through it but it will have to be replaced. I'll wait for cooler weather to do that. The rain has stopped and the humidity is high. The temps are still below normal so that helps a bunch.
Packer congrats on making the team. What position would you like to play?
JP that is a nice looking house. I like the yard. Let's see a full basement means full of trains, right?
Well it's time for bed.
Good Night All
Just a tall glass of cool water, thanks.
***Garry, send them out my way...I know of a hole plenty deep enough for both of them to never be seen or heard from again. Could sell their bikes off after the burial and send you 50% of the proceeds, too.
***Ryan, cool lathe there. Wow!
***Sawyer, Congrats on making the team.
***JP, Congrats on the new house. I don't envy your having to pack up.
Discovered the builders had already done some of the siding and didn't use any tape around the windows. I went out and taped the upper floor windows this evening before dark and will run to HomeDepot tomorrow morning to pick up some more to finish taping the front windows (which will receive the most wind/rain/etc). At least the windows they sided around are under the deck where rain can't reach them. But it seems like cutting corners to me. I believe it is all those extra little things that has made my studio so energy efficient and kept the power bill so low. Perhaps builders don't normally do these things unless asked?
Rob
Evening gang!
Chloe - How about a nice big hot fudge sandae w/ whipped cream, nuts and a cherry to boot? Thanks! Keep the change too!
Well gang, guess what! I got the house! My agent just called and we've come to a respectable offer and agreement for it. Currently, closing is set for the week of Oct 7th. So, between now and then, if I am not in much, it's cause I've got to pack up the crap here and get it ready to move to there.
Ok gang, time for me to go sit in the corner booth w/ JimCG and eat the sundae!
Evening, Chloe - a slice of that apple pie with some vanilla ice cream on top, please, and a cup of coffee. Thanks, Packers#1, and a tip of the cup for your accomplishment! Today the Rams, tomorrow the Packers? Hey, I figure you wouldn't mind if that happened down the road, right?
Garry, I'd keep the Sheriff's number on speed-dial for your phone, with Angry Bubba making threats (even if he is in a cast and not able to act on them...). As you said, that's one more kind of excitement you don't want or need now. Might not hurt to tip off your neighbors so they can keep an eye out for Bubba, too. That, and a surrounding posse of ...
We're getting rain at the moment (and had some lightning and thunder a few minutes ago), as this front works its way through. Jeff, I guess you were done with the main part of that storm and decided to share it with those of us up north, huh? It's okay, as our farmers and gardeners around here can use some rain.
Ryan, both that tank and the lathe look good great. The tank almost looks like it belongs on my short line (with a bit more weathering, that is). The lathe needs a little messing up, perhaps - almost too clean so far...
Hey, Lee, for all I know about 1940's model trains, maybe they did use wood frames to fit over a chassis. Couldn't prove it by me, as I'm not old enough to remember that far back...
Well, Diners, tomorrow I get to rejoin the world of w**k. Maybe that's why Dick hasn't been in - since I wasn't working for the last week, they shut off his internet! Well, I hope it didn't cut back his check too much.
Didn't get done with nearly the stuff I'd wanted to do (clearing the dining room table, for one). Today I did get confirmation that the DVD burner drive I bought off the 'Bay shipped today, so in about a week or so, I'll get to put that into the old drive bay sled for my laptop. Gee, we all seem to find more projects to do, right? Jeff's getting his engines ready for decoders, Ryan's getting his yard shop area whipped together (inside and outside) with the lathe and the oil tank, JP's hunting down a new train room (and house to cover it) - what's everybody else been up to this week?
Blessings on everyone's start of the weekend tomorrow morning,
Wanna know why I'm so hyped up?
I MADE THE FOOTBALL TEAM!!!
Our team name is the Rams, and I don't know what position I'll be playing yet. Got our pads today.
Sawyer Berry
Clemson University c/o 2018
Building a protolanced industrial park layout
I just looked through my snail mail from today and found that part I've been waiting for to complete my latest project has come in. That's to have two Proto 2000 locos driven by one decoder. The locos have already been rewired to pick up track power as a sixteen wheel unit and send it to the decoder which will be in the A unit (FA-1 chassis with a FT-A shell in this case) and the decoder will power the motors of the A and B units. The B unit is a FB-1 chassis with a F7-B shell. The stall tests say this should work.
We really don't need anymore excitement, but we just called the Sheriff because we have been threatened. A man said he will burn our house down. Here's the story. We have been selling an RV trailer, and a young couple (full of tattoes) said they would buy it and made a non-refundable deposit. Later, they changed their mind and asked for the deposit. We sad it was non-refundable, but we generously offered to return some back after the trailer sells. We said we would deduct cost of selling to the next buyer and and other costs that may occur since they broke the deal. That was about 4 to 6 weeks ago. Today he called to say that he and his girl friend had been in a motorcycle accident, and needed the deposit back to pay some of their medical costs. Shelley told him had not sold the trailed yet, but when we do, we will still refund part of the money even though we are not at all required to do so. He got mad and said he expected the full amount returned immediately. Shelley said "No", and he said he would burn our house down. Now, the Sheriff is handling the matter.
Meanwhile, I have long way to go with my recovery from the hospital stay and need rest.
My layout is still idle.
