Good morning,

Looks like we are getting a storm from Jeff's area it was moving north through the Ohio River Valley.

Jeff, that S curve looked cool, to bad it was an operational headache.  I like the overall picture of your layout, looks "busy" the same appearance I want with my layout.

I started working on waybill cards for the layout last night.  Then I stared at the track I started to lay last weekend.

Good work there Gav. Looks like we've both been doing layout work.

Good morning.

It's 75 and mostly clear here. The high should be in the mid 90's and it will be mostly cloudy.

Yesterday was a productive day. I put nickel silver wheels in my Athearn SD9 and I tore out an annoying 'S' curve on the layout and laid a new section of track that's decidely less problematic. The old section put a big strain on the couplers of some of my stiffer cars that don't have much coupler movement (Genesis cars mostly) and on some of my stiffer locomotives as well. I started the project at about 6:10 pm with the tear-out and had the new section in and operational before 9:30 pm. There's still much work to be done but the hardest part is behind me now.

Good evening....

Colby.... your olympic aspirations are inspiring.

Packers.... good to hear about your football. Yes, it's hard work, but I think you will be rewarded for your efforts. In school.........oh so many moons ago....I was defensive tackle, and I recall all the hard work.

Good evening to all....a nice stretch of weather here, so many outside things are getting done so that I can get back to layout.

Sealed the driveway today and tried out this new Airport Super grade stuff, what a nice job it does, and, you don't have to stir it either!! I used to get that tar all over my old sneakers and cloths when it splashed up, or when you poured it from the 5 gallon pail.

Tomorrow, we have 2 bushels of tomatoes to can in the morning, with food prices the way they are, I don't want anything cutting into the MRR budget.

JEFF: Better keep an eye on Gustav, it will be taking aim at the Gulf coast in three days, and quite possibly LA. It will be at least a CAT3 by then.....bad news!!!

FERGIE: Nay, nay, the Red Sox BEAT the Jays on Sunday, and today they beat the Yankees. HOWEVER, the Jays finally beat the Rays, so a hearty thank you!!!

RYAN: That is one funny looking Char fish on your grill ...LOL Your going to confuse the heck out of CN Charlie.

Time to hit the sack, see you guys tomorrow,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I now have the rail ends soldered together and I just ran a test train made up of my pickiest loco and cars over the area and they worked flawlessly. I label this project a success.

***Tom, good to hear of Lowell's improvement. As for strays, wife seems to have a new companion, a male golden-collie mix, (if we had to guess). She calls him "Rebel", I still call him "Go Home Stray Dog". She is going to have him "fixed" soon, which would make it official I guess. Our other dogs don't much like him, as he is a youngster and they are all old now and prefer to be left alone.

It rained so much yesterday and last night that water was actually flowing from the overflow pipe of our pond today. And the creek is flowing beautifully. Even washed the gate out, which I'll fix tomorrow before Twister (our water horse) sees the opening between pastures. Can't tell you all how happy this makes me. I was so dreading having to pump water and shift critters around with a dried up creek. Fay remnants gave us a major rain indeed. Cool [8D]Thumbs Up [tup]

Actually, good on you.  Nice as it looked, it doesn't help at all if you can't get trains around it without having to worry all the time.  Hope the new section works well for you.

It was playing havok with some of my stiffer locos and it had a couple od dips in it that would cause some of the longer cars to uncouple. I finally got fed up with it and said today's the day.

Evening everyone--

My STITCHES ITCH!!  Got my knee straight as an arrow still, and it's everything I can do to keep from reaching down there and ripping off the bandages and just start SCRATCHING!!  Hopefully it'll get back to normal soon--have to go over this weekend and have it checked out.  Dang, it's fun running around like a Pirate with a wooden leg, LOL!

Took Lowell for his daily injections, the Vet looked at me as I limped in with the cage and said, "I don't know who's worse off, you or Lowell."  "Oh, shut up," I muttered.  He's going to do a blood test on the little fellah at 9 tomorrow morning, see if his BUM is kinda-sorta normal, and if so, I might be able to just take Lowell in 3 times a week.  It would be nice.  He's still eating about 4 jars of Gerbers every day, and he can still jump up on things, so even though he's lost weight, his muscles are still working.  Still sleeps on my pillow.

Stray cat has moved into the back yard.  Yah, of course, I ran her off, LOL!  She's been here about 2 weeks.  Little bitty thing, kind of sand-colored, has a 'meow' that could break windows.  She must weight about 3 pounds or so.  Looks as if she's part Abyssinian.  I thought she was feral until about three days ago, now she'll come up to the picnic table and let me scratch her ears while she eats me out of house and home.  Hm.  Here I go again.  If she keeps hanging around, I suppose I'll have to take her over to the vet and get her checked out.  Spooky will have a fit.

Jeff:  Aw, man, I LIKED that 'S' curve.  I've got one on the Sub, but it's a 34" radius, so I don't have to slow the trains down to 0 mph to get through it.  But yours looked really graceful.  Did it give you fits?  They can, I know.  I have a 4" straight section between mine, so the cars have enought time to recuperate when they go through.  I like the replacement, though.

Fergie:  MYGAW, ANOTHER brass loco?  And what a sweet-looking 2-10-2.  Well, that's it, if there's a reason for tearing out and rebuilding, it's those long-wheelbased brass locos, let me tell you.  Your third, right?  Hey, buddy, only 47 more to go and you'll be kinda/sorta up with me, LOL!  Better get an articulated next time so you can blink when the second set of cylinders stays under the firebox as you go around curves and the boiler overhang looks as if it's going to cause a nosedive.  Brass is AUTHENTIC, you know, heh-heh.

Well, that's about it from Sunnycal (104 tomorrow).  School starts Thursday, seems my short-lived 'retirement' has filtered through the incoming choir members.  God only KNOWS what the first day is going to be like!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

The new track section is in place. Now for the ticklish part. The areas where the rails were cut is fairly difficult to get at to cut under the rail ends. So I'm having a spot of bother getting rail joiners in there. What I'm going to do is simply this. I'll clamp the rail ends in place so they line up precisely with each other and solder a piece of iron wire across each rail joint on the outside edge of the rail. After the area is ballasted it'll hardly be noticeable. Have I done this before? Yes. How many times? Twice, and that was many years ago.

Jeff

I'll be honest with you... I like what you have. Looks more prototypical, just have to straighten out the stretch between the left and right hand curveswith a single straight length. Meandering is very good... It's your friendBig Smile [:D] Seriously you have made some excellent progress.

I've been doing some light layout work today. The evil 'S' curve at the front of the layout is fixing to go away. As the photo below shows I've already got the deck that'll hold the new track section in place.

After I've marked off the areas where the ends of the new section will marry into the existing track I'll cut out the offending section, trim the ends, put a piece of half inch foam down on the new deck and install the new track section. Here's a photo showing the new section set in to show what I'm going to do.

Any lovers of 'S' curves speak now or forever hold your peace.

I keep hearing Char and wind up at a Decepticon HQ in another part of the hobbyverse... Let's try Raman Noodles.

Afternoon all. Dad;s gone back to work. He's talking with the Oncologist today, haven't heard the latest yet. We've decided to open up another office room into my bedroom, Downstairs and run the upstairs ENTIRELY to choo choos.

Still trying to decide between Madison RR and a Western RR. Oh the possibilities. The bed goes though, so the back of the room will go to Half Moon (city) and maountains that will transition into open prairie and wind about Tehachapi style if we head west or become part of Jefferson Proving Grounds if we stay put.
