Can't keep up with all the new posts.

We took Smitty Kitty to the Vet today. Turned out to be a nasty abscess so it was lanced & cleaned. He will be on oral antibiotics and porch rest this week. For what it cost, I could have had a (N) Kato GS4...darn cat! Speaking of the GS4, we saw one in person today at that internet based train store with all the cars. Wow, that is one Nice looking train. Told the wife "we" really should have one on the layout. Then she asked how much it cost. There is always a catch, isn't there! Anyway, after a little sticker shock, she kinda agreed to my proposal, so perhaps later this year? Perhaps for my birthday in October?Whistling [:-^]

Got home just in time to catch the last few minutes of a Trains & Locomotives show on RFD-TV of UP & Amtrak on the Shasta Route. Would like to see that one from the beginning.

The tooth extraction clock is winding down now...ugh! It has been bad/infected long enough I believe it has been taking an extra toll on my health. I really want it gone. Topped off all the critters water & hay this evening so the wife won't have to do much with them.

Have a good night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Yeah yeah, on my way to bed.

GARRY et al: we're still clearing up Dad's infection. it's slow going, but mostly down to excretory disease and exhaustion. We're going to go see a movie tomorrow. Wall-E. And he sees an oncologist (I just know that;s spelled wrong, but you know what I mean) the 8th.

Ferg: No, but I'll take a glass of milk. ( I dun get it. That is a cool brass loco. But what;s it got to do with the Northeast?)

Morning all!

You won't be seeing much (like none) of me after today.  I'm off on vacation and where I'm going they don't have internet.  Matter of fact, cell phones don't even work, so my office can't bug me either!  I'm going down to Dale Hollow lake to cruise around on the houseboat for a while and play with the jet ski's.  Probably be back sometime Sunday.  Should be fun!

FergieThumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Rob, hang in there.  It'll be over soon!

Tom, hope that smoke and fire stuff clears up for ya!

Sue, shame on Tom for sticking you with that nasty old smoke!  Bad Tom!

Oh well, gotta do the work thing now.

Later!

These Central Vermont 2-10-4 s were the smallest of the "Santa Fe" class. I believe CV had 10 of them and plied Vermont and Maine tracks.

Hope all goes well with your Dad.  It will be a very tough go for a while but with the progress they've made with Cancer treatment his chances are definately better than if he had the disease 10 years ago.

Thanks Garry! Ben had a great time yesterday and he starts the 8th grade the week after July 4th holiday!

What are you guys doing for the July 4th Holiday this year? Any plans?

TMCC for $300.00 RT? That is quite an investment in one loco! BTW, what is TMCC? Confused [%-)]

Good luck with those fires Tom! I see the Air Force is using some C1's to drop 3,000 gallons of fire retardent, does that help any really?

Nice Brass Fergie! Big Smile [:D]

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, I'll have waffles, glass of milk and one of Ed's OJ, and a cup of coffee, please. Thank ya, ma'am!

First off, Ryan - wish Benjamin a belated Happy B-Day [bday] from me, also. I didn't get back to the Diner last night. What'd he do for his birthday, by the way?

Garry, I found out what happened to my August MR last night, when I checked my post office box - and there it was! Laugh [(-D] Guess my mail people there were busy reading it, since it wasn't there in the box on Friday. And yep, I can think of two Diners who would definitely appreciate that cartoon. Jeff, maybe I could scan it in and send you and email so you can know what the others are talking about...I see the cartoon already got posted.

Cool this morning - our low for the night was 56 F (very un-summer-like), but we're still going to hit 90 or so by the afternoon. Clear, kind of hot sunshiney day.

Tom, I think your gal at the fireworks stand on your news must be a relative of those folks Jeff and his family ran into. Was her name Mildred Nobrains? Just kidding, if Mildred visits the Diner..Whistling [:-^] Well, your retirement was nice while it lasted; maybe if the fires hadn't happened you might be still out in the garage working on the layout...? But it's a 'bump' in pay, and fewer days (so you still have a couple of weekdays to visit the LHS, work on the layout...). Whistling [:-^] Oh, I missed that you were using the Walthers tower for your fire tower; thought you meant the Atlas tower like Jeff has on his layout. My bad!

Sue, you pointed out some disadvantages of garden railways that I'd never heard about before (not that I have ever considered a garden layout - I'm busy enough trying to make progress on my little HO one inside). Hope your work A/C gets fixed soon (preferably today).

RT, that's not good (if I might borrow a phrase Wink [;)]) about having to get a new battery. Hope the new one lasts about forever. I know what you mean about it sounding funny to refer to the back seat in a truck - what came to my mind was where someone puts an old car's bench seat in the back of the truck, like a rear-facing additional seat for going to a drive-in. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Duke Zzz [zzz] - sorry about waking you up - we try to keep the ruckus down in here most of the time. Planning some trips, huh? Say Hi to Attaboy for us if he can meet up with you in Pennsylvania.

Lee, sounds like you're making good progress on the building kits. Thumbs Up [tup] I should do that well on mine! Oops [oops]

Terry, how're you doing today?

I got some roadbed edges sanded down last night at the MRR club meeting, and our club member/chief architect got the tracks for the intermodal yard figured out (two straight in, and a third runaround track for the engines). Also voted to accept a new member to the club (who's been there a few times before, and I've mentioned earlier). On the Preiser figures that were in my order that came in, the unpainted set turned out to have a fair number with coats. Now, how am I going to use those on my layout set in the (warm/hot) Four Corners area? Hmmmm....Confused [%-)]Banged Head [banghead] Sigh [sigh]

Hope everyone gets some relief on their weather today (especially you, Tom). Prayers for those others in need, as well.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Fergie, that is one sweet-looking engine there! Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup] I'm with Garry - do you have any special safeguards you take? Put in safety plexiglas around the edges of the layout, using white gloves, etc.?

I'm curious too - what is TMCC, RT?

Jeff, hope the Dr. figures out how to get your left foot healing up better. Angel [angel]

PC (if you aren't already gone) have fun at the lake, and we'll see you after the weekend.

Flash, I'd agree with what Fergie said about treatments today being better. From what I've seen of the previews, I bet you both will enjoy Wall-E a bunch. It's on my list to go see, also.

Back to my waffles for now.

Tooth is gone and the extraction was painless. Was pretty infected and into the nerve. Dentist let me know "these can kill you". Just glad it's gone. Going to go lay back down now. Feel kinda ill still. At least it's gone.

Hope everyone is doing well. Rob

Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a root beer float, please.

UPCDMRR (Got to figure a shorter nickname for you...), this is a bit like the corner diner in some towns, where you come by, chew the fat (so to speak), and we maybe talk about MRR'ing stuff (or the weather, or you about name it - except we try to avoid politics and religion), stuff we're up to, even how the family's doing. There are very few (if any?) off topic topics here. Our virtual servers, Zoe and Chloe (twins, and that's a whole 'nuther story...) cover the days and weeknights usually, and Flo and Janie (and maybe another one or two) help cover the weekends. Give one of our servers your virtual food and beverage orders, and be careful about being the first post on a page (the Top Of Page - aka TOP). The one with the TOP honors gets the bill for the orders on that page. So if you didn't bring your virtual cash or plastic card, the twins can let you wash dishes to pay it off, or delay it until the next morning when you come in (or payday). But don't get far behind on a tab in here, or the twins' cousin Vinnie will... ahem... well, let's just say you don't want to get on Vinnie's bad side, if you catch my drift! Shock [:O]Wink [;)]

So, tell us a bit about yourself, your layout (plans or how it's progressing), scale modeled, are you 'protolancing' like myself and a few others, or following a specific RR (like say, lemme just take a wild guess, UP)?Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Welcome to the Diner, and I'll buy your beverage this afternoon. Zoe makes a great root beer float, if you like those, by the way.Smile [:)]

Blessings,

Good Afternoon All,

Ah yes, a nice root beer float in a "to go" cup would do me a treat just now. Hi all just a quick run through between trips and general madness. Still waiting on paperwork from the insurance company as well as the definitive word from the building inspector on code improvements needed (the big unknown and not covered except for the damage replacements by insurance. Here is where you need a good adjustor and contractor who can work together and come up with something fair). The house however is pretty much gutted inside so there is no going back at this point. Everything else is just busy or on hold. Catch y'all later.  J.R.

Howdy..

UP Cascade Div .. Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Please stop by and get to know everybody. It's a place for friends to share their "whatevers" ........

Ryan ... Glad Ben had a good day.

RT ... I like that Southern loco.  My grandson has a Lionel Southern green GP20 (I think that's It) . I bought it for him for Christmas.

Rob .... It'll be a relief not having that tooth. You don't want to lose too many however. Makes it hard to eat ribs, steaks, etc.

Terry .... We're certainly praying you'll be all over that disease.......

Flash .... Thanks for introducing "Dad"... Hi Kyle..... prayers continue for full recovery.

Jerry  .... Power was out quite a while there. Good it came back so Sallie can watch soaps.

Fergie ........ 2-10-4 is the Texas Type. CB&Q had some biggies of that type. I recall CB&Q had those and some 2-10-2's back whe nI was a kid in Illinois. Each piston stroke shook the ground a bit like a minor earthquake. I must confess I looked for one on ebay after you posted yours. None there. Good. Need to stick to the budget.

Tom .... Well, Tom why do you suppose I though of your when I saw the cartoon? ...... I mean....uh...like... hmmm.... well, who else would have paid over $200.00 just to reach his buttes? .......Whistling [:-^]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Laugh [(-D]..... oh never mind........

Jim CG .... Sounds like progress is being made at the club layout. Is the new location working out OK?

New Haven .... good to hear from you.

JR .. thanks for the update on your rebuilding. Looking forward to layout photos again some day from you. I enjoyed your industrial and downtown scenes.

Happy Model Railroading

ugh...

Sorry for not checking in as usual. Gone for two days to Tallahassee. My dad's friend, Justice Peggy Quince was made chief Justice of the Supreme Court. After that I got addicted to an RPG game called Travians, and another game called Boxhead.

To make it up to you, I'll post some pictures of trains from Tallahassee. These are from March, when I went to be a page in the Legislature.

In the capitol building, there is the 22nd floor. The 22nd floor has a glass window all around, and you can see the whole city, including train tracks. CSX unit trains came by multiple times per day, so I would grab a snack on the 10th floor, go up, read and watch the noon freight. These trains were often more than 100 cars long, and I kept track of them in a notebook.

Please forgive poor photography; it was rainy outside, and these were taken through the 22nd floor window. You have to click to enlarge.

The tall, intimidating, Capitol Building.

A CSX and UP or BNSF train.

And a CSX train at a grade crossing.

Big Smile [:D]
