Mornin, coffee n a sweet roll please Zoe.
Had a storm come through last evening, dumped 1.9 inches of rain, got most of it in 30 minutes. We had some flooding, but nothing bad this time. A chance of more storms forecast for today.
FLASH,
Sorry to hear bout your dad. Ya'll be getten special thoughts from up in here.
PC,
You folks seemed to have caught the worst of the damage with the tornados. We some how managed to miss that part. The lighting pics look like here that night. Had so much of it, we didn't need a light to get around the house when the electric was out.
On the flooding FEMA finally showed up in Lawrence county yesterday. Now maybe they can get some help. Clyde was down thru there this week and said it stunk like rotten milk and sewer all along there.
ROB,
Hope the mortgage company gets in gear, so ya'll came get started afore winter sets in.
RT, I gave all my extra MR mags away already or I'd send them to ya.
TOM,
Hope they can get those fires under control out your way.
FERGIE,
I'm with you on the rain. I think they're using me n Jerry here for market testing.
GARRY,
Mother decided we're going camping at Ft Massack state park [Metropolis IL] next weekend. If I remember right it's not far your area. It's been 30 year since I was round there and Mother's never been. Is there any LHS's round there or in Paducah?

A strongin a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.
Yesterday I found some more future trees (twigs) around the barnyard. I wasn't thinking when I had the clean up crew take out the dead & dying shrubs above the little carport (slab with rock wall). Thats where I had found the endless supply of model tree armatures. If I had been paying attention, I would have had them leave those shrubs by the edge of the back fence so I could pick through them. No biggie though, around a farm there are always other plants to pull from. That was a huge supply of them lost though.
When the wife & I walked out back to see how big a trash hole the fella had dug with the trackhoe, we new we had better secure the rest of the fence around that area to keep the critters away. We have named it "He!! Hole", because it must reach about halfway there. Won't need another for perhaps 10 years. My word it's BIG.
Thanks for all the moral support folks. It has been most appreciated.
Rob
Good morning!!! The weather here today? Lets see how weatherwise you guys are: The temp is 69F, the Dew Point (DP ) is 69F and the Relative Humidity ( RH ) is 100%. What conditions do we have here in New England this morning? Hint: The sun is not out, and we look like most days in London. Now I know what it is like in Sue's neck of the woods in the Northwest.
FERGIE: WHAT??? WHAT? You are staining a deck with the RH at 100% ???? Tsk, tsk, doesn't the instruction on that can say " the weather must be dry for 48 hours"?? Tsk, tsk. READ THE DIRECTIONS !! Ohhhhhhhhhh, Lisa said get it done now.
JOHN,LUC: Ok , we see you guys at the corner table, lets get up front and tell us what you have been up too.
JIM: Power failure, pumps stop, city floods because Mississippi river is higher than the city...Niccccccccccceeeeeeeeee. I lived along a stream bank as a kid for 18 years, that was enough for me, I made sure I built my home on a hill, the river is 300 feet below me, if it ever gets this high I don't want to be around here. No flood insurance required thank you.
JEFF: Is your fence made from wood, or is it metal?
MIKE: With all those storms and heavy flooding rains, have you been able to get your garden planted? I sure hope so, with food prices going through the roof, this is going to be costly year for staples. I was reading where all the terrible floods in the upper mid west have destroyed over 400 million bushels of corn and grain...this is not good!!
TOM: What's the word from CA this morning on all those fires, making any progress?
ED: I found another door in the garage loft, flat panel, do you need another for an expansion of your layout?
DUKE: Rhubarb is still being picked, we have had enough rain to keep it coming but not for long. I hear the big train show is out your way this summer, all the new products being introduced by the major vendors.
I smell coffee, talk later guys,
grayfox1119 wrote:JEFF: Is your fence made from wood, or is it metal?
Good Morning.....
What? Did you see that? Dick was trying to sneak Rhubarb to Duke in the bottom of his post! Hmm. ...Bet you didn't think I'd notice, Gray Sly Fox.

I suggest calling ahead for normal hours or to scheduale a visit off hours. There are no LHS's left in paducah. Please consider visiting layouts here (mine, Gus's (ICRR), and Dan's (UPRR). We're about an hour from the I-24 bridge over Ohio River. At this location we have a National Park (Land Between the lakes), three large KY state parks, Numerous privately owned RV parks, and two large lakes.
Lee... Now it's two kids driving. They grow up too fast, right/
Fergie ............What's this about staining the deck? Non-mrr stuff is not allowed. How's the layout?
Rob ... You mentioned moral support, and you are certainly welcome. The Diner proves that model railoraders are typically good people.
Jeff .... The park scene looks better than great. It's outstanding. I would suggest hiding the AC unit with a temporary backdrop for the pictures.
Happy Model Railroading

The AC unit is way back on the back side of the layout and is somewhat difficult for me to get to. Can you come and help out with it?

Ask Tom to visit with his creeper. It's too smokey where he is now in CA. Meanwhile, use your fishing pole!
Morning all from SmokyCal--
We have at last count, over 200,000 acres of Northern California burning from Big Sur in the south to Trinity County near the Oregon border. We've got crews coming in from as far away as Florida to help fight them, our Guv has asked that Texan in the White House to declare California a Federal Disaster Area.
There's good news and bad news--the smoke has lifted from the Valley enough so that I don't have to go outside with a face mask, and we have a Delta Breeze that is keeping the smoke high above the Valley this morning. The bad news is that another series of thunderstorms is supposed to roll up the Sierras from the south today and tomorrow. Went outside this morning and there are actually PATCHES of cloudy sky overhead.
And to top it off, in the "Letters to the Editor" section of the Sacramento BEE this morning, one of the denizens of my home town--Nevada City--wrote in to let everyone know that the fires are God's way of telling California that He's angry at us for letting the State Supreme Court rule on the Gay Marriage situation. Hm. So how come Vermont and Canada aren't on fire?
I mentioned that I was suffering from "Cabin Fever" in another post, and Flashwave answered me, letting me know he was sorry that my house had a cold. Funny guy, that Flash!
Jeff: Next time I'm in Louisiana, I'll bring my 'creeper,' LOL! That little puppy really works for those hard to get spots. But I'm finding out that you really have to CLEAN under the layout to get the base-legs in. Those things are LONG! Which is a Good Thing, otherwise I'd be taking a header into the scenery.
For my friends in the Midwest: I hope Tornado Season is over, and QUICK! This has not turned out to be a good summer for ANYONE!
Well, I'm going to have another cup of coffee (Peet's French Roast, thank you) and then arm myself with Sculptamold and Cripplebush Rubber Rocks and go out and attack the Buttes this morning--FINALLY!! Just hope the Delta Breezes keep up at least until noon and keeps the smoke high in the sky and not on the ground. Of course it'll be interesting next weekend to see how many of we Californians actually take the Guv's advice to heart and don't do any fireworks. Not too many, I'm afraid---
Best to all, prayers for those in need.
Tom

Wow, top of the page--that's a first! And all this time I've been mooching my meals off of the rest of you, LOL! Well, line up, guys--Flo, it's on me, this time.
Flash: How come the crew cars are on the front and back of the train? Those water tankers need to be connected to the pump on the TENDER, buddy, LOL!
Make mine chili and tacos. Make sure there's plenty of hot sauce.

in a UNION PACIFIC BIGBOY mug. For dinner, grilled scallops with mango, onions & wild rice, please & thanks.
***Jerry, is that a static or operating rig behind the penn car? Always liked those things and hope to have one on a layout one day.
Wife & I have been running errands all day. Finally had a chance to try out the Bigboy. After much frustration (and this is in DC mode), it finally started operating as it is suppose to. I suspect the forward gears had a spec of something in them or just needed to break free. Now all seems well. Will run it for awhile when there are no storms about, just to make sure it's a keeper. The detail is excellent. IMO, the sound is more of a novelty, but a nice first step for N scale. Wife came down to see it run and said she would need her reading glasses to see it. Then she asked about sound for her HO models and I assured her it was not only available, but that she would be thrilled with the quality available in her scale. (right?)
Afternoon, Flo - I'll have some tacos, since Tom's buying - and a RBF, please. Thanks!
Tom, good to hear you got a reprieve from the smoke (even if only for a while). As for the thunderstorms our way, I think God's been quite kind to Cape G. (as opposed to poor Indiana and Ohio lately).
Lee, it wasn't me that had the mice - I was responding to Paul's comment that he had to rescue Mary Ann from a mouse-set fire. But I don't think I could have cats; I'd always wonder if the cat had been walking through the kitty litter and then across the kitchen counter where I was going to fix my dinner that night. (Ugh! ) Cats are okay, just not in my home, thanks. Give me a dog anytime (but not one that can jump very high...). Lee, you'd better watch out for your insurance rates now, with teenage drivers (X2) in the home. You'll be having to wonder on the weekends if you have a car, before you can head for the LHS.
Oh, in case Gav hasn't already answered your question, he lives in Bristol, county of Bristol, England. But I'd have to go look up a map or fire up Google Earth to see whereabouts that is in England...
What, Fergie? The [censored] icon is gone? Dag-nab-it, if it isn't gone! But as someone else reminded you - what about your layout? If it's raining, you should be inside working on that until the sun comes out again (and then you could stain the deck), right? Hope you get a few days stretch of clear, dry weather to finish up the deck, though.
Inch, you might be about right on you and Jerry being in a test market. I think almost all of the storms that have come through lately were heading up around your way (except for those heading more toward Garry, RT, or Rob's direction, that is). Hardest part is, after you get a bunch of those rains, the crabgrass in the lawn thinks it has to grow a bunch, and then it's mowing time again! Hmm.... Oh, I think Garry's about right on the LHS'es - stop by Chuck's in Marion, IL, and you won't be disappointed by his selection of stuff. He doesn't quite have one or two of everything in the Walthers catalog, but close.
Rob, from your description of that 'Hole' you have, you may not need to worry about having a place to put the trash for a long, long while.
Cederstrand wrote:Thanks for all the moral support folks. It has been most appreciated. Rob
"And there's more where that came from, Pilgrim!" (spoken in my best John Wayne impersonation)
Dick, almost all of the property that got water (about 4 to 6 feet max.) when the pump went off, was commercial. There were maybe one or two home garages that got water up in them (there are a couple of homes, but they have garages on the lower level. They just didn't have much time to get the stuff out of the garage, was all). And actually, there aren't that many business on the 'Water Street' (actually that *is* its name, so it was appropriately named way back when. On your question, I'd be saying you had very thick fog; am I right? We get a few days like that during the year, or even some where the temp drops off at night and the water is warmer than the air by morning.
RT, I actually think I may have one whole year of MR that is a duplicate set. I'll see if I can fit them all in a USPS box. Will need to swing by the P.O. on Monday and get one. Email me your (new) shipping address, if you would.
Went by Hobby Lobby this afternoon and picked up some WS figures - their Pedestrians, and I think the other was the Baseball Players I set. Seeing how nice Jeff's park looked, got me wanting a ballfield, too.
About time for me to finish up my tacos and get another helping. Hey, Flo! Another plate on Tom's tab! Everyone remember to get in some MRR'ing this weekend.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Rob, great to hear that you got to try out your BigBoy. Yeah, I'm sure your wife will love the sound on HO. Some of my fellow MRR club members have sound on their diesels, and it's excellent. Of course, once you get a few running at the same time, you discover why a small train room has its disadvantages.
Jim
Thanks for answering for me to add to that Bristol is in the West of England not to far away from Wales
I'll have another tea while i'm here please
YIPEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
ONLY 12 HRS TO GO BEFORE THEY'RE GONE EXEPT SUMMER LETS
I'll have a celibration tea and a rack of ribs please
Good afternoon, All. I will have one of Jim's RBF's, please, Chloe.
I check in from time to time, but I have been outside most of the time when I am at home.
Not much train time, but one of these days we will get back in there. Looks like most of you are staying busy.
Enjoy your summer.

Say, control yourself, mate! They'll hear you (hear, hear...)
As of miday today there keys get locked out. and there no one on duty till 22:00
Evening Gang: Boy, ask and you shall receive. It started raining about an hour and a half ago and is still raining a little bit. If you need anything just mention it here and bingo. I guess PC may have had a hand in it.
Not much going on today. Rob and daughter Lara hauled hay for us today. It's nice to have a couple of willing hands around. Rob took the new tractor with the cab and AC and let his wife Lara have the old open one. I wouldn't be sujpprised to find him on the couch in the morning.
With the rain now we'll lay off the hauling untill the ground drys up a bit. That will only take a day or two.
Rob we'll keep on doing what we can. If i was closer I'd be at your side.
Well it's bed time. I guess that Gav will be able to get a good nights sleep tonight.
Good Night All

Push-Pull. The RDCs (A tad modern for you I suppose, so are the cars, but for the rest of the bonfire known as California, it'll work. ) allow for crew changes to "Hog Out" on the fly. And make sure that if the line behind them refills with fire, they can back out. What I forgot to mention is that this is only the Front Line half. there's a second support unit, carrying extra water, an AutoMax filled with modified Hummers et al, a trio of pullmans, a diner, and ex-Troop/Baggage cars serving as tool cars.
Duh. Put the pumps in the box tank. make room in RDCs. Trailing units become RDC 1s *Full length Passenger) There will be water guns on the on the roof of the RDCs, proably onm top of the Tank cars, as well as ground ports for guys with short hoses to walk.
Evening all,
Jeff, I think instead of a temporary backdrop; maybe try to dress up the front of the A/C unit to look like a cold storage facility or something. Maybe put a line of trees on the back property line of the park? The entire park looks excellent.
While driving back from Geneva, OH this afternoon we were hit with some heavy downpours. I was on State Route 20 plowing water all the way home in my F-250. When I hit the freeway, traffic was running at 35mph. Here in Euclid, the water was shooting out of the manhole covers because the main storm drains were over loaded. We still have flooding problems at the heads of navigation; if it keeps up we will have problems down here at the mouth of the rivers.

Evening, Flo, I'll have a cup of hot chocolate and some Oreos, please. Oh, I'm just in an Oreos mood, I guess. Thanks.
Okay, PC, we've got the rain turned back as far as Paul's place. Next we take it a few hundred miles further west, and up north to Tom's neighborhood so they can water down those forest fires...
Seriously, Paul, that's great that you're getting some rain. I'm guessing that your Rob might have been making a misguided attempt to 'educate' Lisa on how much better newer (A/C'ed) tractor cabs are....? Of course, as you say, Lisa may give Rob a lesson of his own if he winds up on the couch tonight.
Diners, it appears we didn't get that other portion of the storm over near Lee diverted away. Lee, I hope you have a boat to get to work, at this rate! How long has it been raining for you there, this round?
Gav, do your dorms there have electronic keys, or some kind of electronic override to keep the little darlings locked out? Got me curious.
I'd best get to my Oreos - Flash was eyeing them awfully closely there. Think I'll finish them off, just in case.
Blessings and a good night's rest for all of you,

It's been raining here about every other day it seems. Todays storms came in threes; First squall rolled through for 30 minutes dumping rain, then a 15 minute break with 45 minutes of pouring rain and lightning, then the third squall hit 10 minuits after #2 dumping rain for about an hour. Each rain storm visibility was down to zero.
