Jeff--
Hate to say it, but I can believe what happened to you--some folks reach a certain age and don't realize--or care--that their brains stopped growing decades ago. I'm really glad that management got involved and got those idiots out of the restaurant. Hopefully they climbed back on that potato truck they fell off of in the first place.
Glad you got your next breakfast free in the place. And it's nice to know that the management there is familiar enough with you and your parents that they realized that it was the Trolls causing the ruckus, not you and yours. But it's too bad it had to happen in the first place.
I was in a restaurant some time ago and one of the other patrons noticed my Franciscan cross--I wear it everywhere--. She asked me if I was one of "Them Mackeral-Snappers." I furrowed my brow and asked her what she meant. "You know, one of those 'Popers.'" I played innocent while everyone was staring at her and watching her dig her hole. Finally, as everyone was staring at us, I said quietly, "You mean a Catholic?" "Yah, one of 'them.'" I smiled and said, "Yes, and probably so are about seventy percent of everyone else in here. I'd say you're outnumbered, ma'am." She blinked, turned and left. I got a lot of grins.
So they're out there, stupid as all get-out and not realizing the difference, sigh.

Jeff: I gots one of them stories too. Mine involves a moving Ford Expidition though, They didn't want to stop for the guy in front who was trying to turn left across two lanes. Instead of witing, or waiting for an opening, in the process of me scanning my mirors, I look back and there's a wall of red ford in front of me. Brakes, Horn, and then the girl in front has the gall to flip me off while her boyfried risks a chain-reaction crash on a hill. I think she was a classmate, never got a good look of him. Fortunately we made it out in tact.
Just stopping by to mark where I left off for the night. I'll have to respond to all the posts tomorrow morning if it's not too busy at work. Last night after I posted here, I got a call from Dana (co-leader for the small group), and she didn't sound too great. She said she had some kind of upper respiratory/congestion thing, and that they'd given her a couple of shots in the hip (I was thinking that might've been bicillin - double dose of peniciliin, like we got in boot camp when I went into the Navy) and an antibiotic to take and supposed to go back on Monday to find out what she has.
So I didn't have my lesson notes all done, and had to finish up those this a.m., go get a Get-Well card for her to take and have the group sign), and meet my men's mentoring group (called a 'Twelve') for breakfast at 7 a.m. [whew!] I was ready to go to worship to rest & refresh...
Didn't get the DR table cleared off, but got it somewhat organized and moved mags and books off of it, at least. Maybe tomorrow night after MRR club I can get to the rest of the clearing off.
Blessings and I'm going to catch some , myself!

Good morning all,
Jeff, I'm speechless. Those weren't tourists from the yacht club were they?
Rob, good luck with the DDS; I'm heading in this morning for my 6 month exam.
I was ready to spit nails last night; the neighbor kids had friends over and they decided to play football in my front yard. Now this normally wouldn't bother me but these kids have caused over $1700.00 in damages over the past 5 years to my house and I've had enough. Last year I called the police and all has been well up until last night. I think it's time to have another chat with their father.

PS: the thing on the front of my steam locomotives formally called a cow catcher has been re-named a cat catcher. I guess if Dorothy's cats want to walk down the rails during an operating session they need to brush up on their safety rules as it applies to east-west mainlines.

Good morning......
Lee.... sorry to learn your neighbors are such a problem. best wishes with that matter. BTW, I think you are the only one to look at the cartoon I mentioned yesterday. Others are missing out on the humor. It may pertain to one or two individuals in the Diner........ shhh....I'm laughing about it.
Happy Model railroading!
Good Morning all...Its sunny and cool here this moning with temps in mid 50's....I'll have a sasage sandwitch and coffee please..Thank You....
Jeff Sorry for your Families bad experience there is just no excuse for that kind of thing makes my blood boil...
Mike hope you and Deb have a good trip...

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have couple of eggs, frambled with cheese, some bacon, toast and blackberry jam, glass of Ed's OJ and cup of coffee, please. Sure am glad this virtual food doesn't put on the weight like my food at home does!
Jeff, they talk about some people having more money than sense, but I'm not sure if those rude folks had either one! Glad management was able to step in and toss 'em out, plus your family getting a free breakfast sort of makes up for putting up with them (maybe..). They're probably rude in any place they stop to eat, I'd guess.
Tom, that was a good response to your rude person. Kept your cool every bit as well as Jeff and his folks did.
RT, I had actually got your email before I saw your 'hint' here in the Diner. And replied. After looking at comment on eBay, I may go with Priority Mail. The seller on one item said that USPS is now considering magazines (because they have ads in them, even 30, 40, 50 year old ads) as not just media, so if they catch wind of the contents, it has to go Parcel Post or Priority Mail.
Inch, email me also about when it looks like you'll be down near Chuck's. If I can, I will meet you and Garry (and anyone else) there.
Lee, hopefully the neighbor kids' dad will also realize the (negative) influence that the visiting kids may be having on his own, and discourage them from coming to his house. Let 'em mess up their home's area instead of yours or your neighbor's. (Did I say that out loud? )
Garry, when I can find where I put my August MR, I'll look for the cartoon. Just wasn't in the batch I put away last night.
Jerry, those tomatoes look like they would go great in a salad. And those you shouldn't have to worry about salmonella (spelling?) with.
Waiting on some orders to come in this week (I hope). I have an order through our LHS owner/MRR club member that'll be there tonight at the club meeting, got an email that my RDA kit purchase will be shipped out early this week, and there's a Walthers order that is somewhere on the way here. I think I've stimulated the economy enough for a while.
Probably have half of my DR table (workbench) to clear yet. Got the magazines and books moved out, and papers stacked for sorting/filing. So, some progress made, some to go.
Looks like PC and the R&D crew have been doing their thing, huh, Lee?
Gav, I hope that you can track down the culprits who busted the window with that bus stop sign. Was anyone in that dorm missing anything - wondered if it might've been someone trying to burglarize the rooms?
I'll be at the corner booth - I see the morning switcher's coming by.

Morning all--
Woke up this morning and there is BLUE SKY! Well, not really blue, but the smoke is pretty much gone and there's a Delta breeze that's scoured the air out pretty well. We've still got 1,000+ fires here in the northern half of the state, but CalFire and the Forest Service has been able to get a handle on all of them except for the one south of us at Big Sur.
The Government sent in eight HUGE borate air tankers a couple of days ago, but they've been grounded because of visibility. Hopefully today they'll be able to take off and start whacking the biggest of the fires. We had thunderstorms yesterday, but they stayed east of the Sierra and just bombarded Nevada. And of course, wouldn't you know--they were WET! Just what that state needs--soaked sagebrush, LOL!
Terry: That must have been something, waiting for them to re-start the computer. Hope that's a first and a LAST for you, there. And keep thinking about that cheeseburger--It'll happen, buddy. Make it a double--with bacon slices.
Jeff: Hope you and your parents have recuperated from that bunch of ***-heads at the restaurant. People that ignorant just make my teeth grind.
Lee: Sounds like your neighbor and his kids think your front yard is the Super Bowl. Anyone ever tell those animals about Property Rights? Had a similar thing happen to me with the school across my back-yard fence. I kept pulling T-balls out of my pool until I had a collection big enough to take to the principal's office and inform her that they needed to re-locate Home Base. She just blinked as I poured a bucketful of the little thingies on her desk. Home Base got re-located, LOL!
Well, Mother's leaving today, my sister is coming down to get her. It's been a week and a half around here, with everyone house-bound. But at least I can get the Creeper out and start work on the Buttes again, today. Went to Roseville Hobbies yesterday looking for something I could bash into a Forest Service lookout tower for the Buttes. Found a Walther's signal tower that will work just fine, sawed off the bottom story, kept the top, and re-windowed the rear wall. I'll work today on the platform and get the little puppy installed this week. Also have to carve a trail up to it along the Buttes. AND find some pack-horses. Ah, the Pleasure of Projects.
So when do I get to run a TRAIN??
Well, got to get mom's toast and her morning pills, then open up the garage. OBOY, does Fresh Air smell GOOD!
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
Tom, I was thinking about that Atlas tower after reading your earlier post. Now you have some leftover building for another building, too! Good to hear your air is improving today. Hope that continues (and that you get some rain, but not a la Midwestern levels!).
Howdy folks!
First off, I just want to wish Benjamin a Happy Birthday!
He turned 13 today! So, Happy Birthday Ben! At 5' 9" he is as tall as me now, I think he'll surpass me in height this year!
Been out a pocket the past few days! Playing catch em ups now! Sorry if I miss some posts in here, your forgiveness appreciated.
Lee, thanks for the heads up on page 92...hummm.....who could that be..... << scratches head >>
RT, I like your new Southern loco in your signature!
Jeff, some people have no manners these days. Glad that the restaurant manager handled it right!

Good afternoon from steamy, hot, humid Central Massachusetts. We ahve had TS's every day for the last week, today will be no exception. Everything here is green as can be, garden is doing great with all the right amount of rain, although we have had some gully washers.
There have been some really nice sales online for locomotives and cars at several MRR sites. I have a couple of B&M loco's coming, and another undecorated that I will do in B&M colors myself. I received an email that Klein has shipped that order last week, so it should be arriving today via "Mr Brown".
JEFF: I was so angry just reading about what happened to your parents and yourself. I was even more surprised to hear of their ages. I could expect this from "some" certainly not all, the "me" generation, but not someone who certainly should know better. And to call you a half breed, etc, I wish I was there Jeff, people like that really light my boiler fire. I commend you for keeping your cool, and I was really happy to hear how the manager handled it. I think if I were there, I would have said to them as they exited.." don't let the door hit you in the a**. ( Of course my wife would be angry with me also )And tell your mother that I said the Cherokee's are beautiful people!!!!
ROB: I feel badly that you cannot save your tooth with a root canal, they are so painless these days with modern technology. Have you asked your dentist if can cut you a break after all that you have been through? Thinking longer term Rob, if you keep having problem teeth pulled, sooner or later you will need a bridge, or implants, either way, this will cost you far more than canal and caps. I ddin't like paying for canal, and cap in a few weeks, but the alternative was worse financially down the road.
SUE: I know what you mean about being outside, the weather has been so nice, and there is so much to do outside. Rumor has it that you are thinking of building a Garden Railroad??
MIKE: Enjoy the trip, hope you and Deb have great weather.
JIM: Has the water levels of the Big Muddy declined yet at Cape Gerardeau?
TOM: Any progress on the fires yet? And BTW, thank you for mentioning cleaning the filters on your AC unit because I had forgot to check ours, and boy did they need it. I thought my filter was just dusty and the dark color was the color of the filter. When I ran hot water over it, I discovered it was a WHITE filter. WOW was it even clogged with pollen, dust, dirt, etc.
DUKE: Any train excursions planned this summer up your way ?
Later guys,
Hey, Ryan .... say Happy Birthday to Benjamin .......... and if there's any b-day cake left over, I...er, uh... I Have some thoughts about what to do.......
Dick .. that's a good thread you started and people have some good ideas. I had another idea and started a thread on tips to economize just within the hobby.
So far, Lee is the only one to comment on the cartoon on p 92 of Aug MR. Well, I thought of one or two diners when I saw it.
Afternoon all,
Well the trip to the DDS went well; matter-of-fact they said I've made vast improvements since I had my jaw fixed in 2003.
Well if I have problems with the neighbor kids they know it's better to deal with me than with Dorothy she is typically armed when she confronts trespassers.
That cartoon reminds me of myself some days. I have 3 turnouts that will need to be motored before I install some buildings.
Some of you may remember my goal for 2008 was to assemble all the structures in my big box. Well to date between Dale and I we have built 15 out of 24 kits. Almost there.
Afternoon all
Garry I am still around and sitting in the other back booth watchn' and listen' and when I saw the Toon in the MR,that certain person came to mind.
Dick As a matter of fact,I do have a rail trip planned for July. I would like to make it to the East Broadtop,Steam Town, and then into Jersy to see Northlandz. I need to send Attaboy an Email to see if he will be able to make it to one of the sites in Pa.
That's about it and best to all on sick call and those recovering
Bridge Tom Hope the air stays better for you and they get the fires under control.

Silver Spike that engine I've had about 4 years and its accually about 10 years old I'mthinking of upgrading it to TMCC (that will cost me about $300.00) but thats down the road, I have 6 passenger cars to go with it in that lovely southern green scheem.
QWell went out to truck this am and put some boxes of stuff in the backseat (that still sounds weird to me a pickup with a back seat lol) for a lady at work whos nieghbor's house burnt down the other night . Well we got in put the key in turned the key and silence turned to wife and said this is not good of coarse she goes what isn't good and I have to tell here dead battery isn't good. and then she goes OH!! Great.
Well I call for a wrecker to give us a jump and we head to get a new battery (took wrecker company about hour and half to get here lol. )
But rest of day went fine. Received another train set in the mail today well from the brown truck I should say. Its from 1948 its another addition to my collection again lol.

it took them 60 years to deliver it to you????
Well, just when everything was starting to look at least at least partway in control out here in SmokyCal, ANOTHER fire has popped up, this one about 25 miles up the hill from me between Auburn and Cool in the American River canyon. Heavy brush, it's closed State Hwy 49 which is a major foothill artery running north to south. Here we go again.
And to top it off, the news just said that the fireworks booths up and down the North part of the state are doing BOOMING business, this year. The TV cameras zeroed in on one woman with six kids buying enough to detonate a small country, and she was smiling and saying, "Well, the air's clearing up, we might as well." Yo, lady, where did you leave your BRAINS?!!
Wow, sorry to groan about all of this, what with the disasters in the Midwest, but we're just at the start of fire season out here, and already we've managed to burn over 300,000 acres of wildlands. That's a LOT of country, folks. Missouri is under water, California's burning up--WHEW!
Well, there is a bright spot in all of this--got a call from the high school--the Music Director and the Principal, and CAN I PLEASE COME BACK NEXT YEAR FOR THREE DAYS A WEEK? Not only that, but at the SAME CONTRACT?
Whoa, am I going to pass THAT ONE up? Well, I'm going to think about it. I asked Leah--the Choral Director and my 'partner in crime' over there if I had to give back the Plaque that the Chamber Singers gave me on my retirement, she howled. I don't have to give it back if I return. Frankly, since it's only part-time, I think I will. I've been 'retired' for a month, and I'll be frank, gang, I don't think Retirement's all that Big a Deal. Maybe Partial retirement---
Besides, I already miss those kids like crazy. And you probably have to be Catholic to understand this, but Jesuits are just a HOOT to be around. You NEVER know what they're going to come up with!
Jim: That Atlas crossing shanty I bypassed in favor of the Walther's kit, is sacrificing two of its walls for the blank wall on the lookout tower kit-bash, so I won't have a spare kit at all, LOL. Also, one of the Atlas box-thingies in the kit will work perfectly for a small, enclosed weather station up on that Butte.
Speaking of the Buttes, I found another neat rock-casting to blend in with the Cripplebush. I didn't know that WS put out BIG rock-castings, I thought they just had the little ones.
Well, mom didn't go home today, so I'd better go out and entertain her. She's not the Happiest Camper in the world today, but my sister will be down tomorrow. Either that, or it's going to be the Battle of Antietam all over again, LOL!

Dick, That will be the day. All I could think of would be cats using it for an outhouse, or dogs running off with the structures. I really like our inside layout. If progress isn't happening, at least the locos get exercised.
Our airconditioning at work was broken today. The thermostat inside read 86. I am hoping for cooler weather tomorrow.
Have you been on any rail fanning trips lately?

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Packers:
I love fireworks, too. Seriously, if it weren't so bad out here in California, I'd be setting them off like I always do in the Fourth. Nothing like watching a bottle-rocket take off, LOL! Post some photos so I can see what they're SUPPOSED to be, okay? Maybe next summer out here, we can all watch them 'woosh' without burning up the REST of the state

Tom, Your smoke has finally drifted up here. The haze is causing it to cool off. Hope they get your fires undercontrol soon.
Sue--
I hope our smoke doesn't linger around you very long. It's really NASTY. Hopefully it'll disperse over Puget Sound, and QUICK! Sorry we had to send it north, that's not a pleasant way to cool down your temperatures.
