Evening everyone, just thought I would check in for a change before hitting the sack.
I just got an email from Bob (or Duke if you prefer). He's going to be in my neck of the woods later this month and we're going to get together for a day. Either at East Broad Top or Steamtown.
Also, I am now officially engaged to be married. Popped the question about a week and a half ago and just picked up her ring yesterday. No date set yet but I'm hoping for some time in the spring.
No progress on the layout unfortunately, too many things going on right now. My sister is moving to a small farm near here on Sunday and since I have a truck guess who gets to help. Oh, joy.
I do have a good joke for you. Hope no one is offended:

Attaboy! Congrats! And sorry, I did have to go there.

Good Evening Diners!
I haven't been in for a while but have looked in from time to time to keep up with all the "happenings" at Elliot's.
Last weekend we went down to visit our friends who live near Theif River Falls, MN. Always great to visit with good friends and picking up an order from Klein's is good too! I now have the Sound Bug to add to the new decoder I'm putting into my PK2 0-6-0. The tender is apart on my work bench but with summer I don't seem to get much time downstairs. In fact it is often too cold down there as the air conditioner keeps our basement like a refrigerator. I also picked up another box car kit as you can never have too many. I now have 6 kits awaiting assembly. I told my wife that I'm just stocking up for next winter and have to buy when the car you want is available as next week it might not.
I started some holidays this week and hope to get a little boat time in besides getting it ready for sale. I figure I'll be lucky to sell it in 2 years as there isn't a very big market here for them.
Rob, Glad to hear you now have your tooth problem behind you. It seems that this is a dental month what with Dick's root canal and now we find out that one of our dogs needs to get it's teeth cleaned asap. Our vet told us that an infection can cause a heart attack so I imagine its the same for people as your dentist said. It seems that we have to get our dogs' teeth cleaned once a year and it is expensive, at about $500 a pop.
Fergie, I REALLY like that CV loco! You certainly can see the resemblance to the parent company's engines and I'm rather partial to CN steam. Do you convert your brass engines to DCC?
I'm off to the boat tomorrow and then there are the outdoor jobs in the old " job jar" so while it won't be an exciting holiday, I plan on enjoying myself. Hope to get a ride on the Prairie Dog Central too.
Bye for now,
CN Charlie

***Duke, what a great idea. Timing is off ( wise), otherwise it might have worked. Actually, I didn't save the tooth this time. Decided I had really had enough of it.

Good Morning All,
A regular and a glazed donut please Zoe. Bill, now that you're retired any progress on planning a model railroad or are you still getting over all the work you did on the real one?
Attaboy - attaboy! Congratulations!
Finally made it to the museum last evening - first trip in about a month. We're still working on the O gage layout and doing upkeep on the N but I don't have any way to do buildings just now as the rental hasn't a good place to work in just yet and I'm not in a position to alter it to suit. Lime Rock Park this Saturday and then a week wth no races, then off to Elkhart Lake, Wisc for a week. No Pittsburgh for me this year - too much going on with the other events for me to take time to race myself. Lots to do today so I'd better get on with it. Prayers for those in need. CUL, J.R.
Ah - T.O.P. Bills' buffet is open folks or just order what you want. Catch y'all laters.
Nothing to drink or eat. Just dropping in to say, "Howdy Folks". One good thing about losing a tooth is you also burn body fat while resting afterwards. I do miss coffee though.
Have a good day all! Rob
Mornin, a coffee, 2 chocolate milks and the buffet please Zoe. Thought I was going to be kidless today, but Heather go called to work. Oh well, it's just the 2 girls, Herman went with dad to work.
Been busy the last few days with chores, kids and getting stuff gathered up for our trip. Checked the weather for southern IL and it's the same as our, a chance for rain 2 days.
Partly cloudy skies will be around today with gusty southwest winds. Temperatures look to be the warmest of the week topping out in the upper 80's near 90° this afternoon. A cold front is approaching from the northwest and this front will bring areas of scattered rain and thunderstorms to the Wabash Valley tonight, through the day tomorrow, and a chance on Friday. Temperatures will be about ten degrees cooler on Thursday topping out in the upper 70's.
I'm beginning to think we're not suppose ta go. We had to put 2 new tires on the bus [one decided to throw a belt]. What should have been an easy 1 ½ hour trip ended up taking 3 ½, So we missed Leroy's last ball game this year. All that on top of having 5 kids that wanted to fight n bicker all day. Also the AC quit in the bus on the way home.
RYAN
Give Ben happy birthday wishes from us, even if I am late.
TOM
Hope the weather let'em get those fires under control, so you can get out some. I don't understand why folks would want to take the risk with fireworks that way [I won't], but they do. I've seen it fires happen here from them in dry weather.
DICK,
We sure to have some fun on the trip don't know on the weather. First time we've been away this long or that far without going to see family, a veteran's club doings or some other reason.
FERGIE,
That be some nice looking brass. Good luck expanding the corners for it.
ROB,
Hope ya be feelin betters now that the tooth's gone
UPCDMRR,
Welcome to the dinner, hope you enjoy your visit here.

Thanks guys for the wishes for Ben! I'm sure he will appreciate it!
Congratulations Attaboy! Have you set a date yet?
Going to make a BBQ Beer Chicken for the 4th among other stuff like grilled salmon and shrimp on a stick too!
You guys have any BBQ plans for the holiday?

Good morning.......
Jeff ... that's a sharp looking covered hopper.
Ryan ... I should have planned a trip to NC if you have a menu like that!
I hope Inch gets the bus in working order. He and "Mother" are thinking of stopping here on the 5th for a layout tour. Gus, Dan, and I are practicing for "visitors derailments".
I hope all the Canadians had a great Canada/Dominion Day! EH!
Happy Model Railroading!
Good morning.....Its sunny and warmer here today....weather guesser on TV says temps in low 80's for the 4th should make for a good day for the shrine celebration in Casey...I'll have Bill's Breakfast Buffett please..Thank You looks like RT is buying...Spent most of day resting yesterday so nothing much done on railroad but I did run trains for awhile...I think I may have found a Con Cor F3 for a shell painted for Monon that I have had for 5 or 6 years with no drive..
RT...Glad to see you back in the Dinner....
Jeff...Nice looking KCS car....
Ryan...That BBQ Beer Chicken sounds good maybe we could talk you into doing some for the Dinner for the 4th?
Gonna set back and finnish reading new Model Railroader I thumbed thru it and didn't see alot that interested me...You all have a good one...Jerry
Good Morning, Diners - Zoe, a glass of Ed's OJ, cup of JR regular and some of Bill T.'s buffet, please. Oh yeah, and a cinnamon roll (before packers#1 gets done watching his show). Thanks!
Attaboy - way to go, and hope all the plans for the wedding proceed smoothly (even though there is no such thing as a 'perfect' wedding)
Flashwave, thanks for introducing your Dad - Hi, Kyle! Looks like we got a little peek at the layout in the background?
RRNut, thanks for the 'Railfan-Eye-in-the-Sky' shots. Sign of a true railfanner, finding a way to snap some trains there.
CN Charlie, hope you whittle down the 'outdoor' list a bit, and enjoy some boat time over the weekend. And you're right on those boxcar kits (never too many, and you have to stockpile them up for the winter months - especially with your winters up there!).
Inch, sounds like some trip you had - better rest up before you take any longer trip.
Rob, I don't blame ya for deciding you didn't want to keep that tooth. Haven't heard what the Tooth Fairy's rates are nowadays, anyway, so might not be as much as we think. How're the home plans coming along, by the way?
Jeff, nice covered hopper there, but it might look too clean next to your boxcars...
Ryan, my barbeque plans are - on the 4th I'll be going to our singles group's BBQ and fireworks-watching party. Out a ways from Cape, at the guy's place where the last BBQ & movie dinner was. The rest of the weekend, I might work on some layout stuff (and finish clearing the last of the DR table). Actually, I haven't used my mini-grill for a while. It's just been sitting out on the deck. Maybe I'll grill something on Saturday...
Haven't seen Tom in this morning yet - wonder if he's back at work again already? Surely not yet!
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Garry, isn't that the truth about 'visitors derailments' and such! And to our Canadian friends celebrating today.
Morning all, from SmokyCal.
Well, not so smoky here in the Valley anymore, thank God--but that Big Sur fire is still giving everyone down there fits--it was two fires, now it's joined into one BIG one (60,000 acres or so) and anyone who has ever been down to Big Sur knows how rough and impenetrable that country is. They re-opened Highway 1 from what I understand, but it's still a tough go down there. The local newspaper here--Sacto BEE--was carping today about the fact that most of the campgrounds will be closed over the Fourth--well, of COURSE they will--they're practically all burned UP! I mean--DUH--!
Most of the other fires here in the north state are either under control or contained, but then we've got the Fourth coming up--and the fireworks--I may have to go into Hibernation again. Hope not.
Got Mom back home yesterday, so hopefully today I'll be able to go out and work some more on the Creeper (that MR joke just FRACTURED me, BTW).
Jeff: That KCS hopper is sure handsome! I really like those KCS colors--very distinctive. Is it going through the weathering shop or are you going to leave it 'brand new'? Also glad to hear that your feet are healing, even if its a slow go.
Rob: Got rid of the tooth, huh? Sometimes it's cheaper in the long run just to have the darned things yanked, then put up with all of the misery of a root canal. Hope you recuperate VERY soon, buddy.
Attaboy: Congratulations. Has she set a date for the wedding yet? Remember, all you have to do is show up, the rest of it's all about HER, LOL! Seriously, I'm happy for you.
Jim: No, I'm not back at work yet. That doesn't happen until about the middle of August. I still have to meet with the Principal and the Department Chair to hash out the details of what my reduced schedule will be--we teach on a Revolving Block schedule, so it will depend on how many classes I have during what days of the week. I'm hoping for a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday schedule, but again, it depends on class rotation. So I STILL have time to get to Colorado this summer and ride those cute little narrow-gauge trains.
Some bad news--my male Train Cat, Lowell, has kidney failure, and it looks as if it's moving fast. So I don't know how much longer I'll have Mr. Mellow around. He's 13, and has been a REAL companion for me. A real sweetheart, I'm going to miss him like crazy. Right now I'm making him as comfortable as possible with antibiotics and Vet visits, but my Vet doesn't want me to hold out a lot of hope, despite all of the treatments. Right now he's still active--at least as active as a male Maine Coon EVER is, LOL--but he's lost several pounds. We'll have to see. One thing my Vet said, is that he's seen this type of disease go into remission on some cats and they can live out a normal life span. So, again, it's a waiting game--
Well, we've got another Delta Breeze today, so I think it's Butte time again. I keep thinking about that cartoon in MR. Now why didn't I think of a Flying Harness?
Best to all, prayers for those in need.
Tom

That salmon & shrimp Ryan is grilling is driving me crazy, and I can't do a thing about it. Guess I'll just have a EAS drink, please & thanks.
The builder called today, but I still can't really talk with gauze in my mouth, so will let the wife return his call later. We've about decided to do as much as we can ourselves. Of course I have my own motive for doing so: with the money I can save, perhaps a bit more can go towards the train room.
Wife spent all day taking her dad to see some specialist, Tomorrow she takes her mother to see another Doc. Wish she didn't have to get stuck doing all this. Such is life.
Healing thoughts to those in need. Tom, real sorry to hear about your train cat Lowell.
Rob
Afternoon, Zoe - time for my usual RBF - Oh, wait! You know what I haven't had for a long time? A chocolate chip frozen yogurt concrete, please.
Anyone else want a concrete?
Tom, I promise we didn't write MR to have them draw that cartoon just for you, really! But it does remind me a little of that one Mission Impossible movie... Maybe that's where they got the idea. Good to hear things are clearing up in your area, and I hope they stay cleared up for quite a while. Colorado, huh? That should be a fun trip, and we will be awaiting photos once you get back. Sorry to hear about Lowell's health - I remember when you introduced him in the Diner to everybody (best-behaved cat I've seen).
Rob, hope your mouth gets feeling more like it should (and tasting less like cotton) soon. Your ulterior motive on the house construction makes perfect sense to me. You're right, that salmon and shrimp that Ryan's grilling does smell awfully tempting. (Maybe you can distract him and...) Oh, nothing, Ryan - not talking about anything in particular, why do you ask?
Oh, speaking of July Fourth activities - the fair city of Cape Girardeau usually has a Riverfest (which has become a July 4th thing the last couple of years) - with food booths, some downtown streets blocked off, and shooting off fireworks from a barge on the Illinois side of the river across from the city. Around that time also, there's been an air show at our local airport, with hot air balloons on Friday night (and a race on Sat. a.m., skydiving teams, and biplanes, A-10 Warthogs and (one year) a Stealth bomber even. Well, because the floodgates are closed currently (kind of blocking the view across the river a bit), they decided to combine the airshow and Riverfest activities out at the airport this year. Should be good, except I'll be elsewhere, and I'm sure the traffic and parking at the airport will be (ahem...) a MESS (tm). I'll have to check the local paper and other sites come Monday and see what pics they have from it. (I'll be sending the royalty check for you, Fergie).
For Friday afternoon/evening here, I've spoken with Vinnie, and I understand there will be some 'aerial displays' outside of the Diner for Diners' viewing pleasure. Can't give you more details; Vinnie said if he told me, he'd have to... uh, well.. let's just say that rather than that, I'd like to be around the Diner for a while (above ground, not as part of the foundation).
I'll be sipping on my concrete at the corner booth.
Oh, almost forgot - we found out at our MRR club meeting Monday night, that the church that wanted us to move so they could expand into our area at the back of that building? - word is, they are moving to a new location. That was a surprise, all right.
Twhite: Prayers for the cat. I don't know what kind of breakdowns I would have without Katie, my dog.
Jim: Thanks, I'm glad you like them.
In other news, the Hassenpheffer is here, and my sister won't let him out of sight. But she goes off to camp soon, and he will be left to me and my other sister... .
I read an interesting book lately called Chasing the Falconers; part of a series about a bro and sis who's parents have been wrongly accused of treason after terrorists stole their research. After their parents get life snetences, they are sent to a prison farm in Nebraska, since no one will take them because of the scandal. One night during an accidental fire, they break out and go on a cross country adventure to prove their parents innocence. Very interesting, fast-paced and exciting. Better yet, there's a train scene (they hop one from Nebraska to Chicago).
My dad is flying up to Memphis to buy a car, and will miss the 4th of July while DRIVING IT BACK!!! Today my mom and I are buying some awesome fireworks. For the second most important part of the 4th, I recommend: Junior Cuckoos, Piccolo Petes, Screamers, Artillery Shells, American Freedoms, Roman Candles, Tanks, Jets, Helicopters, Bottle Rockets, and Fire Crackers. America
Ask if you need descriptions about the fireworks.
In the meantime, I have 25 pages of Geometry problems to do for summer work, and 75 questions about a book I read for school. Dad wants them done by tonight, AND I HAVENT EVEN STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Evening Gang:
Flash thanks for bringing your dad around for a visit. Kyle I wish you a speady recovery. Mice looking beard.
Jeff you and your folks are really tough skined. I'm affraid that I would have gone off on those folks. I wonder what there ancestery is like. I'll not go there.
Rob it's good that you got that tooth out. You may miss it for a bit but you get used to it.
We got the hay hauled and in the hay lot. Now I need to go out and pick up the hay that fell off the bales. That new bailer is not doing a good job. It goes into the dealer for a servicing and had better work better.
Fergie nice loco. An't brass nice?
No MRR stuff. I maybe able to get some reading done now that the hay is taken care of. Oh now we have to move out to Clark Gardens and bail that and then to Johns place and do his. It's going to be a long summer.
Good Night All

watered down Oatmeal, please & thank you. (that's progress)
***Paul, sounds like it could be a simple adjustment on the bailer. Is what you are bailing of typical length compared to previous years?
***Jeffrey, my wife has some Cherokee blood mixed in. Lets see, I have Russian, German, Austrian, Polish and a smidge of English. Now I'm curious what everyone else around here has!
Meeting with the builder tomorrow evening. Wife put me in charge of the money dept, so there will be no sneaky cost increases. He already got plenty for the second drawing I could have done myself. The wallet has now been tightened up.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. For those that asked, no date has been set yet. I always thought a spring wedding would be nice. This will be the second time for both of us so it will probably just be a small immediate family type thing. I am thinking about asking her 16 year old son to be the best man, just to help let him know he will be part of the new family too.
And I'll just have a root beer float before bed, Flo.
Goood evening all Ice Cream with some chocolate syrup.
Paul: Yep, he's pretty proud of his beard. We do Rev War era re-enactments, so it has a fun purpose. he's also modified it for the role of Morton.
And that's the future site of Half Moon behind him.
Rob: Still don't think you should have paid much of anything for the second drawing. his goof, out of his pocket. Oh well.
Speaking of ma "old man" Doc doesn't think he's making enough progress with the infection, so the we're pushing back another week. Oh joy .
ANd in other news, I've managed to screw up my BL2 Demo. Apperently there was something wrong with the gloss coat, cause it brought out some silver speckles not otherwise noticeable (I know it;s supposed to do that) but when I went to remask the loco, the painter's tape pulled part of the decal off. And this is why I prefer RTR. It's a FRED of a lot harder for me to screw up...
Let's see, my blood lines are mainly on two islands. I've got scottish, English, Welsh, Dutch, and Irish in me.
