Mornin, coffee with a wheel please Zoe

Tuesday-Snow and blowing snow.  Very windy...High 33  Tuesday night-Blowing snow...windy and much colder...Low 14

Accumulation:  2-4 inches north of I-70, 1-3 inches south of I-70

JIM CG,, I got lucky and was able to sell a photo or two some times [mostly sports shots], very far from being a professional.

JERRY, nope didn't make it up there. So goes the well-placed plan of mice n men. There are some shows coming up maybe I can make one of them. Urbana is Mar 15-16 and the one in Rockome is Apr 26-27. I think there is going to be one in Altamont again this year [July or Aug], but haven't found out for sure yet. There are 2 or 3 more within a 3 hour drive or less, but I don't figure their in the cards with Mother

RYAN,, don't remember the cause any more, maybe JERRY does after all this time.

LEE,, I didn't know back then and had forgotten what engines were involved till I scanned them into here and was looking closer at them. If I remember right, there were some in PRR and NYC paint into the mid 70's

ROB,, Thoughts go out for the lose down yur, sorry to hear bout

ED,  and anyone else I missed,, like the photos. Also ED hope ya'll has a good trip.

Bad joke of the day:  Writing a powerful message

There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed a desire to become a "great" writer.

When asked to define "great" he said "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, wail, howl in pain, desperation, and anger!"

He now works for Microsoft writing error messages

Gotta get going, 2 of the kids are here and KC's kinda fussy this morning. Thoughts for all those on sick call and hope ya'll has a gooden

[Rob, Sorry to hear about Stan's Wife.  Is that the same person that had the heart attack you were going to go see in your previous post?]

***Lee, it was Stan's mother who passed away. And yes, Stan was the one with the heart attack (& lung problems). We figured Stan would pass away soon, not his mother. She was in her early seventies, but very active and really doted over her 50 year old son. From her posture on the steps, it looked like she had a sudden and massive heart attack.

Finally getting sleepy here. Good night all...again. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Good evening, I mean good morning,

Just started snowing outside.

Ed, those tracks look good.  What era/location is your layout?

Rob, Sorry to hear about Stan's Wife.  Is that the same person that had the heart attack you were going to go see in your previous post?

JPowel, yea we were under the watch all day and now we are under a warning.  We should only get 9" of snow over the next 24 hours unless the storm changes from moving east to moving south since the bulk of it is over Lake Erie.  Good luck NY the storm will be picking up energy and moisture as it travels over Lake Erie.

Lee

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS BY DAYBREAK WILL BE ABOUT AN INCH EXCEPT A LITTLE MORE IN SOME OF THE HILLS. THE SNOW WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY DURING THE DAY TUESDAY AND MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES... ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL DEVELOP BY LATE AFTERNOON. AN ADDITIONAL 4 TO 6 INCHES OF ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED DURING THE DAY TUESDAY.. WITH ANOTHER 1 TO 3 INCHES POSSIBLE BY THE TIME THE SNOW WINDS DOWN LATE TUESDAY EVENING. STORM TOTALS OF 6 TO 9 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE AREA.

Evening all -
Hope everyone in the Ohio Valley, New England and Northeast are stocked up on supplies for the next 24-36 hours. I see Lee was already under a Winter Storm Watch. We were too, until about 3pm, then the NWS put us under a Warning. If the forecasted track stays as is, we'll get at least 6-12 inches, if not more (see below). If you ask me, it's about time we got into the 'Winter Weather!' So far, we've had an above normal temp winter, and below normal precipitation wise.

Evening Gang: Talk about weird weather. It got up to 90f here today and tomorrow morning is supposed to be 30f. If this doesn't give us all problems I'll be plesently supprised.

Rob I', sorry to hear about Stans mother. My sympathys to him and your wife and you.

Ed I like the track so far. I'll be looking forward to the ballast also. I checked my E-mail and I'll send the information as soon as I get off here. Before I get Jacks layout in the garage I need to clean it out. I may end up taking the basement layout and taking it up to the garage also. Since it's modular it isn't a real problem. I'll just have to see how space and stuff plays out.

Garry I looked at your tutorial. Nice job describing your method.

Not much here today. While I was putting out hay I passed Mary Ann and stopped the tractor and waved her over. I opened the door and asked her to do me a favor. she said "what" and I said "Would you go and get my jacket? It's getting a might cold in here." She replyed with the look and said " Shut Up". I got to do that once in a while.

Well I am going to cut out and write Ed.

Good Night All

eveninng all won a bid on some bachmann n scale track didn't like thge life-like track at all. If you ask me it was real $%^&y track . that and the 4-8-4 would not run on it too tight the new track is 11 1/4" radius and the otther was 9 3/4 hope thats enough of an enlarging to run it woould really like to see here run the4-8-4 with 16 wheel tender.

If i get her going on a track with out problems may look into taking shell off tender and repainting it and either putting Balitimore & Ohio on it or Southern.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Another warm one outside, but the a/c kept it nice here inside.  They're actually forecasting a ‘cool front' to come through tomorrow night, maybe bringing some rain and dropping temperatures all the way down into the 50's!!!  I should be so lucky.

I'll be off line for a few days starting Thursday evening.  We're heading up to Mexico City for a few days.  Saturday we have another of our railfan outings, a one day bus tour following one of the lines heading west out of the city then turning north.  Since we're going that far for the railfan trip, we'll stretch the trip out for a few days in the big city and do some shopping and sightseeing too.

Today's adventure in haute cuisine involved fixing up a batch of the old Oahu Railway's famous "Hawaiian Luau Pork".  Chef [C=:-)]  Okay, so it really wasn't a recipe of the Oahu Rwy, and it's really not even Hawaiian.  But it does have pork, veggies, and pineapple, served over rice.  Even Jr liked it, which surprised the heck out of me.

And the big news is that....... well, after a lot of backsliding and procrastination, I finally took paintbrush in hand and completed painting the ties in the small section I'm working on.  After giving them an initial coat of brown, I went back and dry brushed them with a light grey.  It may not look right to others, but I'm pretty satisfied that it approaches the weather beaten look that I'm trying for.  They certainly look a lot "softer" than the harsh look that the black plastic of the Atlas flex track usually gives.  We'll see how well it combines with some ballast later this week.  Here's a look at the ties in the part section looking from above.

Then I got excited and decided to press on with painting the rails.  Did I mention before that if there ever is a next time I'll get some spray cans and do this before laying track?  Trying to paint these in place is a real struggle, at least for these old eyes and (starting to get) shaky hands.  I first tried using a brush but felt like that was too difficult to get any kind of even coverage.  So I tried using extra fine "Microbrushes" ( http://www.microbrush.com/hobby/products/microbrush/index.asp ) and I felt that it gave me a lot more control.  Still tough, and the camera shows up where the coating isn't even, but it worked a lot better than I was doing with the brush.  Heck, with my eyesight and the relatively low level of light on my layout, I really don't notice these ‘holidays' or gaps when I'm standing next to the layout.  I think the 80/20 rule says that I ought to call this okay for me and move ahead.  Here are a couple of shots down closer to ground level (and closer up than I normally view my trains) that show the ties and rails painted.  Close enough for government work.

I'm going to try to complete painting the rails in this section tomorrow, then move on to ballasting this section.  I'm anxious to see how the track will look with both the ties and rails painted, and with ballast in place.

Terry - nice looking elevator.  That's a good sized layout room you have there.

Paul - so you're going to wind up with Jack's layout?  How much trouble will that be to incorporate into your design?  But having it in the garage sounds like a decent idea.  (p.s. check your email)

JP - yeah, I wa extremely happy with Tito's contract extension.  We'll see how Colon deal works out.  Looks like it doesn't have much downside risk.

Ozark Belt - nice looking layout.  Thanks for posting the pix.

Ryan - the Yankee Pot Roast sounds good to me.

And yes, would you like Quervo Gold or 1800, Herradura Especial, or Gran Tulum?
Cuervo is a brand that's been around a long time, one of the old houses.  I've never heard of Grand Tulum.  Herradura is actually my favorite brand.  They're another of the really old line distilleries.  Herradura Reposado is actually what I prefer.  But since I've lost so much sense of taste, these days I usually opt for "Jimador".  It's made by Herradura, but it's their second line.  It's also a ‘reposado', but costs about half as much as "Herradura".  At one time I had a collection of about 40 different tequilas, including maybe 20 different brands, with some different varieties within the same brand.

Guess that makes up for not posting very much the past couple of days.  Wheh!

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Afternoon all.

It's sunny, and 55 or so degrees, which I find pretty nice.

I've been reading a great series of books lately. The first is Lightning Theif, 2nd is The Sea of Monsters, the 3rd (The one I'm reading now) The Titans Curse.

They're all by Rick Riordan.

PC: I still have the card. You can have it back, along with 20 pies of your choice to keep Vinnie out of it. Okay?

Flashwave: I like the engine house. Who makes it? I think I want one...

Rob: I still can't seem to get a cornfield meet going. I'm working on a new route, and maybe with a long stretch of tracks, a hill, and some muscle, I can get the ES44's to die.

Later.

Flashwave, will you be putting the Indy Union Station on your layout somewhere? Better take care of that throat - one variation of the flu that has been making the rounds in this area includes a sore throat, so hopefully it's not that. Shock [:O]

Blessings and prayers,

Eventually. It wasn't to go together as well as I would hope. But in this incarnation it's gonna just hum a few bars as HO&N headquarters. To do all the other stuff, I =don;t think I;ve got the room. The thing I put up ysterday was more a mockup for the ultimate layout. I ogt a chiro adjustment, it's helped the throat some. But we're getting our second round o' bugs too.

Good afternoon all. And goodnight. *Snore*

Inch,

You might not know it but I think you captured the actual 1968 merger of the PRR & NYC forming the PC railroad in you pictures!

I count 4 locomotives in your pictures a PRR 2631 + NYC 250? = PC 3239 & 3204.

Morning fellers!

Hope everyone is feeling well these days and staying in good health.

Watched the Oscars last night and we have only seen a few of the movies that where honored, one was Norbit and the other was Ratatouille. If you have not seen the animated movie about the rat chef you should pick up the DVD rental, it is a great movie. Of course I'm partial to animated movies about a chef with lots of cooking and restaurants scenes.

We went to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences on Saturday and it was fun and the best part is when we got there it was FREE. Got to love that price!

Looks like I got a lot of positive response from the California Zephyr Dinner menu from Friday. And Garry made a special run too.

Garry did you post that clinic on the scenery that you were mentioning? Oh, looks like you did, will go find it soon enough, thanks!

PC congratulations on the basketball game for your son! I know you are a proud dad! How did the pizza preparations go on Saturday? BTW, the layout videos are nice to see again!

Lee nice trees you made there! Thumbs Up [tup] Know what you mean about gas prices the way they are now. Funny too, we watched "Die Hard" again for the first time in years and there is a scene where regular unleaded sign shows .76 a gallon, and this movie was made back in 1988.

JP working at Homebase technology department was interesting because on occasion I would get out of the office making desk side support visits to the 3 in-town restaurants as well as working on Emeril's PC. A few times I had to go to his house to deliver new cell phones and he was cooking in the kitchen and we talked for a few minutes, he's a fairly down to earth guy and has a good sense of humor. I also worked on his wife's and daughters PC's as well, it was still a family sort of business. Heck even today his dad, brother, and sister works for him. They just opened a new restaurant in Gulfport/Biloxi last year and another one in Las Vegas, which makes three in that city. Now they have a total of 11 restaurants, with the others being 3 in New Orleans, 1 in Atlanta, 1 in Miami, and 2 in Orlando.

Flip consider it done with Deb on the prayer lists! Angel [angel]

Ed grilled flank steak and grilled ratatouille sounds great! Chef [C=:-)]

Dick see what happens when you leave us and go on winter vacation! Laugh [(-D] That big snow event sure has us scratching our heads about global warming.

Jeff the KCS has better roadbed and rails now huh, darn derailments are happening too often now eh! But that might be more true to prototype for CSX I hear....

Rob prayers and hope the wife heals soon, that bug and pneumonia is bad stuff! Looks like the rains are staring to help some now! Angel [angel]

Johnboy you are welcome!  I like your breakfast to go ideas, sounds like a plan to me! Dinner [dinner]

Terry great pics of the layout, I like that grain elevator.

I'll second that! And yes, would you like Quervo Gold or 1800, Herradura Especial, or Gran Tulum?

Mike those are some really interesting photos from the train wreck back in 69' 70'. Any idea how it happened?

Colby looks like you got some good time in on the layout over the break.

Ozark got some nice pics of the layout posted and looking great too! Is that Darth Vader standing under the depot canopy and near the telephone booth?

Hey Ozark, where'd you get the awesome baggage cart?  Do they make it in N scale?

PC - proud for you (and your son)!! Bow [bow] Maybe you can post a clip from the video on YouTube.Com and give us a link?  I'm sure your son is tickled about it,......

I'm hoping to get it soon, and I'll drop a link if and when I do!

.....and I'm sure you both are glad that you have all those pizzas made and delivered, too.Chef [C=:-)] Yeah!! [yeah]

You have no idea!

Oh, on your layout, my comment about it being 'a snap' was rather tongue-in-cheek, in case you missed it.

No, I got ya!  Thats the spirit I took it in.

It's funny how after a while of talking with someone in a forum like this, you kinda get to know them a little bit.  You can tell when their toungue is in their cheek, ya know?

You know you really need another town or two, so you can generate enough traffic for your line, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I was thinking of adding a whistle stop on a blister in the middle of the helix.  It'd let the operators catch a glimpse of their train midway and it'd add a stop for passengers.  The port will be the main traffic generator though.

Oh, Zoe - I think I need another cup of coffee to go with my second round at the breakfast buffet, please.

Thanks!

Colby, you've been busy while school was out - nice job on the layout! Thumbs Up [tup] What's your next thing to do on the RR there?

Thanks for the info on that billboard, Lee - that Blair Line billboard is on my list to get. There are a few of the Bar Mills ones that I'll have to check on the e-auction place to find (since they've been discontinued through Walthers, even).

I'll get back to my breakfast brunch eating... Smile [:)]

Blessings,

Howdy,

Jim, The Welcome to Fox Creek billboard is a Blair Line wood kit, I think it was page 319 in the current Walther's catalog.  You get the sign, several Rotary, Mason, 4-H, Lions, etc.. Signs to attach to it.  The words "Welcome to..." is pre-formed then you glue the letters for your town.

I finished cutting up the $2 cinnamon broom I bought at Michel's and have 16 ugly naked trees ready to boil.  The 3 trees I made I set them out to see what would happen.  1 tree I used rubber cement and it lost all the foliage.  The other 2 trees are holding up very well, one I used contact cement and the other I used diluted Tightbond wood glue (60/40).

Good Morning, Diners - Zoe, I'll have a glass of the OJ (Thanks for keeping those tankers coming, Ed), cup of coffee and a breakfast buffet platter, please. Thanks!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner, Aggro - love your work! Have a cup (shot glass?) on me, and feel free to drop by again soon. Smile [:)]

Supposed to be foggy this morning, currently about 36 F (2 C) in Cape G. Allegedly it will be warming up into the low 50's (F) later today with a chance of rain (93 percent humidity at the moment). Then tomorrow, the temp starts dropping (around midnight tonight), with rain and maybe some snow late tomorrow. Wind chill this morning is only 30 F. One of those dampish and cold days that can suck the heat out of a person. Where IS spring?? Johnboy, I'll second Dick's request on keeping those 'chilly breezes' up there, okay? Yeah!! [yeah]

Hey, Inch, you never told us you were a professional photographer! Wow!! [wow]

Dick, what all are you doing on the master bath project there? Putting in track around the tub? Wink [;)] Hope you can get that project done and get back to MRR'ing, since you've been off playing in the snow for a while. You probably have a little catching up to do on the layout, huh?

I think I'll get to my Dinner [dinner] now. Zoe, anyone else comes in, I'll be at the corner booth. Prayers for the CFO's who are ailing (and any Diners as well) or in need of comfort.

Blessings on your Monday,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
