Morning all!

Well, I'm a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning as my dad would say.  I slept a good solid 7 hours last night.  Took a nice long hot bath at 11pm last night with the new model railroader magazine (great issue BTW!) and got real relaxed, then hit the bed at about midnight and was out like a light.  I'm still a little tierd, but I'm not the zombie I was yesterday.

Which reminds me, i'm sorry if I was a bit testy yesterday or Monday.  Lack of sleep will really mess you up, ya know?  My appologies.  I'm not usually like that.

So, the weather guesser says it's going to be pretty nice today.  Low to mid 50's and sunny.  I'll take it!

And speaking of great things, the wife continues to improve.  She gets better every day.  Thanks for all the prayers and support.

Speaking of prayer, hey Paul, I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I've been praying for Tony.  He's had it real tough from the sounds of it and my heart really goes out to him.  Your friendship is a real example to us all of the way we're supposed to treat one another.

Well, I'd best be off for now.  Check ya later!

Just a holler, Jamie called and said gas went from $3.39 yesterday to $3.45 up by Springfield.

News out of Terre Haute, gas $3.25 to $3.45. It was $3.22 Monday evening.

JERRY, we're not making it to Urbana this year either. Money just to tight now and gas to high.

For those of you old enough to remember Red Skelton, I think you will enjoy this.   For those of you not old enough you will see what you missed!!
Either way, his humor was always clean and he was a great entertainer.

  RED SKELTON 'S RECIPE

FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE

  1. Two times a week we go to a nice restaurant, have a
Little beverage, good food and companionship
She goes on Tuesdays; I go on Fridays.
  2.  We also sleep in separate beds.
    Hers is in
California, and mine is in Texas .

3. I take my wife everywhere....
But she keeps finding her way back.

4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary.
'Somewhere I haven't been
in a long time!' she said.
So I suggested the kitchen.

5. We always hold hands.  If I let go, she shops.

 6. She has an electric blender, electric
    Toaster and electric bread maker.
She said 'There are too many gadgets, and no place
To sit down!'  So I bought her an electric chair.

7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well
Because there was water in the carburetor.
I asked where the car was.  She told me, 'In the lake.'

8. She got a mud pack, and looked great for two days.
Then the mud fell off.

9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling, 'Am I too late
For the garbage?'  The driver said, 'No, jump in!'

10. Remember:  Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

11.     I married Miss Right.  I just didn't know her
First name was Always.

12.     I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months
I don't like to interrupt her.

13. The last fight was my fault though.
My wife asked, 'What's on the TV?'
I said, 'Dust!'

those were the good old days; humor didn't have to start with a 4-letter word  It was just clean and simple fun.

'God Bless', as he always ended his

Jim, it's not really a kink, it's missing the nail.  The corner in the basement is out of square and I had to divert the tracks to match the offset on the corner section.  I'm using a challenger and a 0-4-0 to double check the trackage and we are doing well so far.

Jerry   If you delete your pics you will lose them or if you move them to a sub album then you need to put the new address up for them.  Hope this helps.

I did phone interview today and I guess all went well as I was asked to send in a fax with aproval to contact my references (Prior work) then it goes to there human resorces for processing and I will be contacted to go to some VA for a physical and once they get that back they will contact me with an offer for the job. I will be on a probational period for how long I don't know I've read 3 months and 6 months on some but don't remember seeing on this but interviewer siad it may be 3 months to 1 years not sure. year seems awlful long to me but not worried either way. what

I am wondering about is that I have to have a physical and I have a difibralator in me.

Jerry They could still be there as RT said but it probably wouldn't hurt to reload them and remember if you move them to a sub album you need to repost them from that sub album.  Yes the pics here on Pg40 are still there.

Hello everybody ......

I liked Ed's latest group of Mexican pix. The guy with a "cowcatcher" mustache is a real classic!

I thought of Philip today as I heard on the news about some screwball judge in California ruling that home schooling of kids is somehow unconstitutional. I'll never understand such a thing.

Jerry, the NYC cars look okay in the pix, but I don't know for sure what you can do with the roofs. Perhaps they can be straightend. If you warmed them in hot water, you may be able to straighten them with your hands. On the other hand (so to speak), you can mess the cars up even more with such a process. I once straightened a roof doing that, but it was not molded together with the car sides.

I suppose, I'll tell one of those off-topic funny stories. This really happened, and it's a little embarrassing to say I did it.  A few weeks a go, Shelley took a short trip, and I had taken her to the airport. As I returned home I pulled into the garage with her car. Next I entered the house. We normally keep the keys for our vehicles in a little bowl on a shelf at the door.

As I placed the keys in the bowel, (clumsy me) I pressed the little red button on the little pad attached to the key. That activated the car alarm. So, I reached in the bowl again to retrieve the keys to press the red button a second time to turn off the alarm.

I pushed the little button, but that caused the alarm on my truck to sound, too. I had grabbed the wrong key in my haste to turn off the alarm of Shelley's car.

So if you can imagine what that was like, I had the two car alarms alternating back and forth beeping the horns and flashing the headlights on and off.

I just don't know why that struck me as so funny, but I became hysterical with my own laughter. Nobody else was home, but their I was laughing like a fool with the alarms of both vehicles activated.

Eventually, I got control of myself, and turned off the alarms. It's good we have no neighbors close to us.

On that note,

Happy Model Railroading!

Lately I feel my railroad passion strainned. Lately meaning the last few months. Regular life stresses take a toll, and not having enough cash to really do anthing likely is a major factor. Tearing down and reconstructing the SP&E has been put on hiatus due to lack of expendable funds. I can tear it apart....but obtaining the material to rebuild...uhhhh nope. Evening folks!

Ben got sick again last night, had a fever of 103.2 we were worried about our little buddy.

So after an initial visit with the pediatrician late this morning and when the test for strep throat and influenza type B both turned up negative we were given instructions to have Ben get some chest X-rays at Wake Med hospital because she thought it might be a case of pneumonia. The doctors office called back around 2:15 this afternoon and said that the X-rays were negative, meaning that Ben has a bad case of sinusitis, so we went to Walgreens to get the Rx filled and picked up his math workbook from school for the math homework that his teacher said would need to be made up from missing school today.

At this point we will see how he feels tomorrow morning before making the decision to send him to school on Thursday and will evaluate him on a day-to-day basis for now.

Your kind thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Later on,

Evening Gang:

Ryan I've got Ben on the list. I hope that he gets to feeling better soon.

I spent the day working on the 7.5 railroad. I blew the leaves off the section in teh back yard and then burned the dead grass and weeds. I then went and started to put out the second Round Up application. I got around to the depot and stopped as it was time for supper. The remaining track is fairly free of weeds but will get checked out and sprayed as needed. HO is alot easier to take care of. No shovels and rakes and loads of gravel. And you haven't lived untill you have had to lift some track and dig out the dirt so you can get some ballast under it.

Ed we'll have plenty of stuff for you to take pictures of. Be sure and have a couple of extra memorie chips with you.

I slept through the night last night. Of course I didn't go to bed untill 12:30am ether.

So on that note I'll say good night and hope that I mean it.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.   Cool [8D]  We had a light rain or heavy mist almost all day, which was great.  We really needed the moisture, even though it wasn't a heavy rain.  Plus, the temps stayed around 70-74, so I was a happy camper.

The coffee is good and strong tonight, as always.  Fran had to put another pot on, as we finished off the first one.

Lee:  The paneling in the basement and the upstairs of my house is solid 1" tongue and groove white pine.  It's pretty common in my town for these 1947 bungalows.
I grew up in Southern Connecticut, in a small Cape Cod style house (1940 construction).  I remember that Dad finished off the basement using T&G knotty pine on the top half of the walls.

By the way, that was a great picture you posted.  Thanks.  There was something odd about the photo, but I'm probably the only one here who would notice.  The photo was supposedly taken in Cd Juarez (across the Rio Bravo from El Paso, TX).  Yet the locomotive was lettered for the FC Mexicano.  The Ferrocarril Mexicano was the line that ran from Mexico City to the port of Veracruz, and came nowhere near the US border.  But it was purchased by the government back in 1946, but not made a division of NdeM until 1960.  Just seems strange that they would transfer an 0-6-0 so far from its home.

CG Jim:  Anyone ever try to graffiti a Smurf pic on the side of one of those cars?
Don't know.  And I probably haven't spent enough time looking at graffiti on cars to see for myself.

inch:  Jamie called and said gas went from $3.39 yesterday to $3.45 up by Springfield.
Here's a website where you can see gas prices by county across the whole U.S.

http://www.desmoinesgasprices.com/Price_By_County.aspx?state=IA

Fortunately for us, prices in Texas are among the lowest, so our trip NOB next month won't be too bad.

They have one for Canadian gas prices too:

http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_can_gastemperaturemap.aspx

However, by the looks of the red color all over the province of Newfoundland, our fall trip back there will be a bit pricey.

RT - good luck with the job.  At least the interview sounds like it went okay.

Ryan - sorry that Ben is sick again, so soon after getting over the last bout.

That's about it from down here this evening.  Catch up with you tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

RT, is this for a food handlers job?  All GOV food handlers are required to go through a physical (I think every 2 years).  It's a special physical, if it's the food handlers physical you'll get to poop in a cup.

Sometimes I wish I had a bunch of money to dump into my layout. I just have to get along on my pennies a day budget. Sometimes I can splurge and get a new loco or two, usually anywhere from $40 to a couple hundred, depending on what I'm buying. Usually I get what I can get the best deal on. A Proto 2000 E7 new in the box for $65 isn't to be sneezed at. Neither are four never been used Athearn F units for $60. Most of the time though I only have $10 to $30 a month to play with.

Tall cool glass of water and a slice of Key Lime Pie, please & thank you!

***Ryan, hope Ben heals up quickly.

***Paul, how much My 2 cents [2c] do you have invested in that RR? While running errands today, my wife and I were talking about (if we won the Lottery) how much fun it would be to have a large outdoor RR empire.

***AggroJones, there is nothing wrong with making such decisions along the way. I would not have any of my newer steam locos if I had not first sold off lots and lots of vintage locos & cars I had collected over a good many years. Have built (and upgraded) my collection this way. Perhaps the day will come when you will be in a better situation and will have the extra My 2 cents [2c] to work with. Think about what is most important to you, make your desicion accordingly, and then don't sweat it. This is suppose to be a FUN hobby.

Worked on the wife's paperwork for Taxes tonight. Will crunch numbers tomorrow night and then help her finish it all up Friday for her Tax preparer. Going to go sit in the corner booth and work on that Key Lime pie now. Dinner [dinner] Rob

   Hi everyone.

Ed- those were good shots, all of the ones I've taken recently - meaning the past 4 months, or eternity, can't really tell which- have snow for a background. Yours look a bit warmer.

Paul - sent you a PM, I have no idea if it actually will get to you, but I hope it does.

I've been looking around the whole forum for the past week or so, there are lots of interesting topics being discussed here and there. I visit the Trains section alot more than I used to, good to hear whats going on with the real rails around the country- around the world, for that matter.

I'm sure pcarrell will mention that the weather around here is finally moderating a bit, we almost hit 45F today, and some fools say we might get to 50F tomo- well, now it's today I guess.

I hate to hear that insomnia is making the rounds, but it's good to know that there are other people I kinda know up and awake while I'm at w**k.

Got a couple of pics of an NS Dash8-32B today, it's been handling local freights the past couple of days. It's a good looking unit, but the old Alco trucks it rides on sure look plain compared to some of the Hi-Ad steerable this and thats that some of them roll around on.

With the thought that spring might, indeed, be on one of Ed's trains heading this way, I will say goodnight to all.
