Howdy each and every last one of you.

Today went well, cold but rays of sun now and again. Amyjo and I went to the hardware store in Albany to pick up primer for the new room, and Lo and Behold!, there on the unclaimed paint table were two quart cans of dirt brown paint! As I scooped them up, Amy said "I thought you were thinking blue for the walls." I explained ground color for the layout, and she was quite happy. I was quite happy that they cost a buck a piece.

Then after we went home, the telephone rings, it's the same friend who told me about the KCS units that visited town a few months back, this time he located two D&RGW SD40-2T's sitting just outside of Portland. I Thanked him, hopped in the truck and sure enough, 2 beautiful units were just sitting there, idling away. I LOVE SD40-2T's so I grabbed a bunch of pics, and these were in great shape. The 5413 was in the lead, with 5391 tagging along behind. The only foreign markings on them was a small "WE" printed under the cab windows. These were rare beasts, particularly for east central Indiana, and especially seeing as how Uncle Pete didn't repaint them Armour Yellow!

   Ahhhhhh, goood times.

JimRC and Silverspike- My visits here are almost always after the diner has slowed down, I'm on the 'puter at the PD, and I haunt the graveyard shift. As long as we don't get busy, I can pull up the site around an hour after I get here(2200) and type a little, w**k a little (preferably VERY little) and type a little. And Jim, in Indiana you are alwys CORN-fused, never confused. And yes, I do remember (in the general sense that all old people remember things) something about Fergie sending a Lanc to blow up someone, but that was in his younger days! Not too worried about it these days.

Welcome to Ozark Belt! Hope you visit often! And glad to  see CNCharlie and Hoople  in here.

Also just took the Garden Railways suscribers poll a bit ago, told them that I liked prototypical operations more than gardening. My garden grows a bumper crop of frustration on a regular basis. The thought of me trying to grow miniature Bonsai-like folliage is laughable. If I ever get around to building an outdoor railroad, it'll be the Round-up Division of the Sahara Southern!

OK, gotta do something. See you all later.

Laugh [(-D]...Thanks for the chuckles!

***Der, nice looking ground cover. Do you treat it for bugs or bake it or??? With all these GREAT ideas, and LOTS of readily available "stuff" around the farm here, doing things on the cheap should make building our layouts feasible. Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Have a good night all.

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please Zoe. Return trip to NYC went well with no long tours of unfamiliar neighbourhoods this time. (At least I can navigate by the rail lines - we used the Park Ave tracks to figure out where we were on Monday).  Hope the rest of you lot are ok. Laters, J.R.

thanks, and so the train can still back into the industry siding. I'm working on adding a small power plant made out of what was leftover from a crane I had.

Terry, I know very little about DCC (mostly from watching the other club members run their locos on the club layout, etc.), but I was wondering - did you shut down and (I think the term is) dispatch the loco before removing it the previous time that you had run it? Maybe - if you just turned off the power supply at the end of a running session, the decoder on that loco kept the speed setting in its memory and (when you put it back on a powered track) it started at that? That, or maybe the decoder died/shorted in some weird way, so that it's stuck at that speed. My (uneducated) guess and My 2 cents [2c].

Good morning! Think I'll have some donuts and OJ.  As promised, here is some more info on my layouts.

In HO: My 9'x11' laoyut is set in the Illinois, just a skip and a hop away from the Iowa/ Missouri  Border. The era is the 1960's. it's set for mostly local running.

In N scale i have two: One is in a large shobox, just a simple point to point switching layout. the other is what's known as a pizza layout, a or a simple circle. (i also added a seperate branchline

In Gn15: This little layout fills a whopping 1.7  square feet. its a gravel crusher tramway sorta deal.

Morning folks!

Wheat toast and some hot coffee for me please Chloe!

Winter storm warning posted for Thursday morning with ice and sleet expected, and another below freezing night again, it was 19° F in the back yard before the sun arose.

PC, glad to hear that the wife is getting around so well and best wishes for continued improvement!

Paul, thanks for answering the live steam loco questions, I guess it all depends on how much mechanically inclined you are and that can save you some money. Just like scratch building on a layout saves money too! And it sounds like Lara Beth is progressing well now!

Der John, nice screen saver you got there! Oh, and I get those late night breaks too, especially if I take a lot of liquids at night.

Glad that you asked! The New Orleans Seafood Chowder is a recipe that I developed many years ago (20 to be exact) when I was the Executive Chef at Elmwood in Jefferson, LA. It is similar to the style of the Manhatten Clam Chowder in that it is tomato and broth based and not the dairy version like in New England style. I keep the basic Manhatten chowder base of seafood stock, clam juice, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and herbs, but instead of clams as the main protein, I use a hearty supply catfish chunks, large shrimp, and bay scallops. I also kick it up a couple notches with a little Cajun spice mix. It became a favorite among the regulars and if I skipped a week or two of making it they became restless...go figure! Chef [C=:-)]

YUM! Sounds good. Care to share the recipie Ryan?

Morning all!

I've been fighting fires this morning!  No, not literally.  AT&T in Indianapolis dropped all data service for the whole city.  Talk about busy at my desk!  Got most of it fixed now, but what a way to start a day!  I got out of the shower to find 10,000 people hitting my cell phone.  Gotta love a day that starts like that!

Have to go to court tomorrow.  Hope all goes well there.  We're trying to get Social Security to give my wife her disability benefits.  She's clinically disabled, all her docs agree, but for some reason SS won't give her back the money that they took out of her paycheck for just this purpose all those years she worked.  She just wants whats hers, nothing else.  We're going to court to see about getting it.  I don't see how she could lose, but it's a crazy world out there!  Prayers would be awesome if you're the praying kind.

Still pretty chilly out there, but warmer then yesterday.  Not by a ton though.  This weekend they're talking about wind chills of -20 though.  That doesn't sound too nice!

So thats whats up with me.  What's your world look like this morning?

Whistling [:-^]Morning crew,

Can't stay long, pretty busy here today.

Zoe, on your return trip I'll have a cinnamon bagel and some of Ed"s OJ.

Jeff, if we are giving you a Title, then please spell it correctly.  The name Rembrandt is spelled with a "D".  You failed to put the "D" in its place.   LOL  Ha Ha Ha .

But we are really glad you like the title enough to use it.   "The Spray Can Rembrandt" really does suit you.

Hope you all have a great day, I will try and get in later to see how things have gone.

Morning everyone. 34 here this morning.Still calling for a winter mix.

Just coffee please and I'll go hide in the corner so Paul won't see me. LOL

Jeff-I really like the paint jobs on your engines. This is just a thought-a little weathering would add the used look.Nothing heavy but just enough to give the suggestion that they are earning their keep on you railroad.

Just a thought. NJ Bob

Jeff-Good thought. All the ones that I have seen from your posts do have that fresh from the shop look.

Do you make your own decals? When I put the name on my switcher it was one letter at a time. Your roadnames look like a one piece decal.Bob

Yes. I make them up in MSPaint and print them out on air mail paper. On a loco with white paint it's easy. When it's a different color I have to match the color on the decals background. This is easily done by scanning a ssample of the color and duplicating it in the decal. The decals are applied with a thin layer of white glue. After the glue has dried (doesn't take long) I dab a thin layer of white glue over and around the decal to protect it from the Matte-Finish spray that'll be applied to the model. If I don't put the glue layer on it the ink will run. All the little glue smears dissappear as the Matte-Finish dries.

Nice technique Jeff- Seems you got that one down real good.To look at them one would think they were actual decals. Sure beats putting on letters one at a time but in my case I still liked the way my loco came out.

Keep up the good work-Bob

in a SNOWY SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you!

***Philip, crossing fingers & toes for your wifes court appearance tomorrow. It's rediculous she even has to go through that.

***Terry, nice city scene there. I'll 2nd the comment on good colors of the buildings. Thumbs Up [tup]

Not many hours ago there was a chance of a wintery mix here tonight. Now there is a chance of 4"-5" of snow. My wife is a weather nut, so we took a drive to watch it roll in. Ever since the Storm Of The Century here (1993), she has zero faith in forcasters so observes our critters to gauge what is coming (just as accurate). Laugh [(-D]
