Really? I thought they were considered too big. That's good news to me.
That E-unit looks really nice, is it P2K?

Morning everyone-coffee please.
Philnrunt-I agree-I really like using DPM wall units. It's amazing what you can do. I never thought I could have a curved wall using them until I tried. That last structure I just posted has a curved rear wall. Thanks for the compliment.
Lee and Jim- With the crane I could rig up something to make it turn. I don't have plans for a boom car.It is self-propelled and will be parked next to an industrial platform. If you look at the flat cat I insyalled a post that servres as a rest for the boom. Thanks for the compliments.
Lee-When do you want me to come?LOL!!

Howdy everybody...
I'll have oatmeal and OJ, please. I'll save room for Ryan's menu later in the day.
Ryan ... One of your menu items I can attest is really good, the IC Old Fashioned Raisin Pudding. Everyone definately should save room for dessert at dinner time. I have the Dinner in the Diner book infront of me now and am looking at the recipe. Ryan, speaking of IC recipe's, have you tried IC Baked Deviled Crab Meat. The book says it was a favorite item for passengers on the Panama Limited. Meanwhile, the dessert item above will be great this evening.
Jeff ... I like the Athearn passenger cars. They look good and do not cause derailments.
Happy Model Railroading!

***Philip, good to hear the wife continues improving.
Beautiful day here. Time to cut some more firewood to keep a fire burning in the cabin this week (to protect the pipes at night).

ahh, a fairly productive day. just finished maintaining and repairing my carfleet. only one car taken out of service for repair.

Good Afternoon All
Snowing here as the next Nor' Easter, courtesy of "We All Know Who"! is coming up the coast. Thank you all for the Birthday wishes as yesterday was somewhat productive on the MESS. And yes PHIL with no injuries! just sore muscles and a stiff neck. The majority of the wires are connected but not energized quite yet as I want tp check the system and insure no mishaps, Phil.
ANyway two more CN Cabeese have been added to the MESS and they look very nice.
Later All
Fergie
PS: Ed, never considered you old sir just a tad more mature then the rest of us! And yes I'm watching the weather like a hawk now as it's a 56 hour crossing.

Afternoon Gang:
Ryan I don't recognize any of the gentlemen in the picture. That is a nice looking locomotive.
NJBob If you want to do a bunch of rolling stock I've got 300 ore cars that need couplers and lettering, 220 Walthers cars and the rest Varney and MDC. I see that you are rolling around laughing. That is a nice job on the crane. I just noticed the boom crutch on the end of the flat car.
She hasn't gotten the engineers cap yet but as soon as she gets home she will.
I went down and watered filled all the water troughs in the corral and put out hay for the cattle. Then I put the bucket on the new tractor and did some digging. That machine will really move the dirt. I think that I'm going to have the rear wheels moved out to widen the track a bit. It is a bit top heavy and tends to get me to pucker up on a side slope with a load on the loader.
Philnrunt: We will do anything to get the ore to the dock. If I can get the DL 109s they will be pulling passenger trains for the Milw Rd and C&NW.
Fergie: Nice looking cabeese. Good looking Mike also. Mind the weather. I know that the Hudson is a stout ship but no point in pushing it.
I still have to get out and water some trees so I'd better get going.
See you all later.
Hi Chloe, Whatcha been up to ?? When you get a chance I'll have the dinner special and the IC Raisen pudding. Swish with a 7-up.
Well hang on fellas and gals, its a very nice day here today in the Canadaian Paradise but they say we have an Alberta Clipper moving through tomorrow. Freezing rain in the morning with the temp dropping all day. Snow the rest of the day after lunch, about 4 inches, winds get to 50 MPH (80 KPH). Sure hope it blows itself out quick and before it gets to Fergie. I hope CN Charlie reads this and digs out the Red woolies again.
Had to do a few hours of Church work this morning, but managed a stop at Micheals craft store on the way home. They had foam core on sale for $1.99 @20"x30", so I bought 10 of them. Will mount some of my backgrounds on them and the left overs will be for floors and roofs. Also stopped at Princess auto and picked up a set (4) of what they call mini chisels, also on sale for $1.99. will be great for carving plaster. So a couple of good grabs today....
Jeff, you sure do a great job without a airbrush. We should call you "The Spray Can Rembrandt". Nice looking jobs on the passengers cars as well. (Didn't see the crack you were talking about)
Ed. Trust me, we are not old. Only experienced, but still learning and open to new ideas !!!
Fergie, Patch those holes in those rubber boots, just in case We'll be watching you out there.
Ryan, those are great menus you are providing. Makes my mouth water just reading them. How is a guy supposed to lose the Christmas weight when you are cooking like that. If I keep eating off your menu I'll have to have a three unit lash-up just to pull me around.
Rob, Is wood your only heating source or do you have some natural gas or propane as well ?? Do you have your own source of wood or do you purchase it ??
I built my home in 1981. At the time it was one of the most energy effiecient in the Province. 2X6 construction with insulation on the outside as well as in the studs, making the walls over R30., R40 in the ceiling, fully bagged and sealed, airlock at the front door, passive solar, thermal storage, air to air heat exchanger. The system works great and the natural gas consumstion is minimal. We have been real happy with it. Last year I changed to a top line energy effiecient furnace and replaced the air to air heat exchanger with one that I can more easily change the filters on in my sunset years. The original had to be completely taken down and flushed. It was a pain in the A__.
Well I'm off today and my wife is working, so I had better be a good fella and get some supper ready for her. Maybe I could take home a doggy Bag from the Diner here. Maybe not.
Cape Jim. Congrats...Nice set of wheels there, the ladies will be all over you now.
Hope you all stay healthy and warm, or cool for Ed.

Well I'll try some Missouri Pacific Southern Fried Chicken assuming it includes friend okra and black eyed peas. Then ... Ill save room for IC Raisin pudding. Yes, indeed.
Ryan......... that's a neat Ten Wheeler there. Will it fit in that roundhouse you're building?
Fergie ...... Nice "cabeese" but didn't the CNR call them "vans"? Are they made by a Canadian company. They are terrific. Ditto for the 2-8-2. Godd stuff.
Well, what's cookin', John Boy ??? ... Somethng a little romantic for the Mrs.? by chance.?? A little wine and candlelight... fire in the fireplace? ....... oops. ....oh,never mind ....don't tell!
I liked the comment about Jeff being the "spray can Rembrandt" ... Jeff does good stuff.
Watch out for JimCG now...... New wheels. ... soon a new .... um... well let's see....
Paul ..300 ore cars....... wow...and I thought Fergie was greedy with the 2-10-2's. Shows you what I know. BTW, I bought some stuff at the train show in Detroit a couple months back for loads. It's a strip of flexible foam with the contour of an ore load (or coal, gravel, etc.). I've not yet tried it, but it looks simple. Cut to proper length and paint. Place in car. Optional Woodland Scenics ore could be glued on top.
Hello to Jerry, Oazrk Belt, Rob, and NJ Bob. I think that's all who are here this afternoon. Cheers.
Have Fun!!!

***FoulRift, sent you an e-mail.
***Ryan, that is the coolest 4-6-0. Wonder how much something like that would cost?
***Fergie, have you ever considered collecting CN lines?
***Paul, nothing more fun than palying in the dirt. Widening a wheel base is usually a good idea. Careful on those hills.
***Johnboy, sounds like you have a well built, efficient home. Our new home has heatpumps and excellent insulation, so our bills are 1/3rd of what the cabin was. Our cabin (a stones throw away) has a heatpump for upstairs which we leave off and had propane downstairs (now removed). Cabin has two fireplaces with inserts. One burning will keep it from freezing, two will heat the place nicely. We (that means "me") will eventually fix it up as a guest house or for renting out. Time will tell. Right now I just do what is required to protect the pipes in it. The water to the upstairs is shut off, as I already have one pipe to replace that feeds an upstairs toilet. Not a priority at present.
Got a few nights worth of wood cut up this evening. Fire is stoked next door. Going to relax in a corner booth for a bit. Just nudge me if I start snoring. Rob
Good stormy evening to one and all. That combo grill is just the ticket for a night like this.
At three o'clock this morning it came to me where the roller for the track cleaner might be, so I rummaged a bit, and now we are back in business. However, cleaning off the workbench has spread to clearing papers of the filing cabinet and actually filing some of them. The computer desk was next, and while not cleared yet, a decent start has been made. 2/3rds. Done, and many tasks taken care of to do that. Rumour has it that the whole thing may get cleared up this week, even with another trip to our daughter's Tues. or Wed. Then a massive shread will be in order!
CapeJim:
DerJohn, I'm not sure what you meant on the idea for Colby's layout. He'd need two more turnouts to have a passing track, and it'd seem like to even out the S-curve, he'd have to change that left-hand one to a right-hand one to keep the industry siding he has in the upper right corner. Or sketch me a picture of what you mean and scan it in to upload, maybe
So, here's my sketch. 1) Shorten the straight below the water tower.
2) Swap the two turnouts as shown by the long red arrow.
3) Build the curve past the turntable so that it passes near the turntable, and put in more straight leading to the turnout at the top. (Now a RH)
4) Adjust the lower (Now a LH) turnout and the turntable lead to line up. This may require rotating the turntable to get the best index position. The Atlas HO turntable has only a few positions.
If you can follow that, and play with it in your Handy Dandy drawing program, maybe we'd have something that Colby can try sooner rather than later, with what he's got on hand. Just a thought.
Derrick: back! How's it going mrr-wise?
Ozark: to the Diner. BTW, new comers don't pay for Top of Page, so have whatever on me.
NJBob: That crane is a beauty. You scratch built the boom too?
Fergie: Thanks for the shots of the new power and the cabeese. I note that the road traffic moves on the MESS as well! Nice touch! Hard to say just what could happen out here in 56 hours. (Is it really that long?) Here's wishing you Fair Winds.
"Corner Gas" in a few minutes, and Mid Somer Murders later tonight, so I'll say all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful, if overcast, day down here in Paradise. I was glad that it only got up to about the mid-70's, as we spent the afternoon working out at the orange grove. Started to spit rain and I thought we wouldn't finish, but it held off (so I had to keep working).
I know I sound like a broken record, but the fruit is just great. It would be nice to sell some just to get it off the trees, but prices are in the cellar and there aren't any buyers.
Well, I was surprised at the Colts loss yesterday. But I'm thrilled at the NY Giants victory over the Cowboys! Mexico is in mourning today. The Cowboys are far and away the favorite NFL team down here. Next week will be interesting with the Giants taking on the Packers at Lambeau. Fran is a Packers fan.
Paul B - I'm trying to schedule the trip so that we can stop by Weatherford for a day or two. Still not finalized. I'll keep you posted as we get closer.
derJohn - congrats on the workbench cleaning. That's where I need to start, I think.
Northern Phil - sewing is still very common down here in Mexico, and even a small burg like Tuxpan has 3 or 4 dedicated fabric stores, and material available in a couple more. Fran almost always has some small project going. Glad to see you dropped in over at TrainBoard. I'm not trying to snatch people away from the MRR forums, but many of us frequent more than one train forum, and if one were looking for an additional place to stop, TrainBoard is one of the best (obviously, just my opinion). Ryan and Inch (speaking of whom, where is he?) also post there on occasion.
Garry - baked deviled crab meat eh? Sounds good.
Fergie - that's a fine looking M.E.S.S. of cabeese!!!
That's about it for now. I'm a bit bushed after the work out at the orange grove. Catch up with you tomorrow.
Hasta mañana
Ed
Evening Gang: Not much since this afternoon. We went into town for supper and then headed back. No stopping for shopping or anything. I got a book by Dr. Robert Ballard on sale the other day. It's about his experances searching the deeps. It's pretty good with great photos and only $4. I've got his book on the Yorktown also and will look for anything else he has done. I'd like to see him look for some Great Lakes wrecks.
Well, it's bed time so I'll see you all later. Daisy the dog got me up at 2am to take her out. It's a good thing she is so lovable.
Good Night All
Ok, so I decided to move the freighters to the train room, but first I needed to clear off some space. Then I noticed the white pine panels on the east wall had come loose. So I went to the garage to get my tools and had to straighten things out (45 minutes) to find everything, then as I pulled the panels away from the wall I find out they were nailed to the foundation blocks (nails rusted away). Then I noticed the 2x4 holding the landing up was rotted out and needed replaced. (Insert 2 trips to home Depot) So today I straightened up the garage, fixed the east wall in the basement, replaced the 2x4, new anchors, turned all the furring strips from horizontal to vertical and anchored them in, had to cut all the paneling before installing them since nothing was square and silly me plumbed everything, and guess what.....The freighters are still sitting in the garage!
Ryan, yea it's locked down for me too. Click the WWW button on the bottom there and it should take you to my albums. I looked at your trees and oregano. For forest turf I use a special blend of tea leaves, coffee grounds, and a dash of woodland scenic's dull green grass. It looks and smells good. The coffee and the tea give you the dead leaves look without the Italian pizza smell, LOL.
FoulRift, The Cuyahoga County port authority has a crane like that sitting at the docks, I think it's an old NYC 90 ton. I think there is a picture of it in my WWW button. As for the hoppers I'm easy to find since I'm conveniently located at Chicago Line Mile Post 171.5 Just Park at the fuel/sanding racks and walk towards the lake.
Fergmiester, my great uncle was the switch master at Swan Creek tower, he always referred to those as a light-house. The caboose looks good. Would that be a Canada caboose or a Canadian caboose? With three of them is that a murder, gaggle or flock? HEY WAIT A MINUTE THE MESS LOOKS WELL organized! What happened?
Take care all...

Good Evening All,
Just got back from the G gauge pickup at the New York Botanical Gardens. As usual a couple of hour trip turned into an all day affair. We thought we were getting some rolling stock and some old track. In fact we ended up with an entire NYC passenger consist, a couple of locomotives, some box cars needing repair and about 400 feet of track - on road bed and four bridges averaging 6 to 8 feet in length! We ended up borrowing a trailer from the crew down there and left about 5 pm. Of course I got lost in the city and took the scenic route to rt87 via I think most of Brooklyn but we made good time doing it only making two u-turns and one loop (with trailer in traffic). I of course now need to return said trailer by 8am tomorrow so I gotta run. I was only on to get maps for the return trip as Parkways in NY are out with a trailer and the area is ringed with them plus I won't have a co-pilot/navigator in the morning. Never a dull moment in the world of model railroading, eh? At least the foot of snow turned into 3" and mostly held off. catch yall tomorrow, J.R.
Evening everyone. A large Coke please.
Paul- You'll have to excuse me while I compose myself.I really hit the floor laughing when I read your post. Laughed so hard I started to cry. That's a heck of a list of cars you have there.
DerJohn-thanks for the compliment on the crane. And yes I scratchbuilt the boom as well. I have a smaller version that sits on the back of a truck but no photo as yet.
Rob-when did you send the e-mail? I don't see it yet.
Well guys got to run. Just got home from work and have not had supper. I'll catch up with all of you later.NJ Bob
Evening, Chloe, just a cup of hot cocoa to go. Only stopping by for a couple a'minutes. Thanks!
OzarkBelt, to the Diner, and DerJohn's comments - first time as a newcomer to hit the TOP, you pretty well get a free ride. Now later this week, that's another story... Tell us a bit about your layout (or plans for one). On the passenger cars, they will run on 18" curves, just with a bit of overhang (and that doesn't bother everyone, either). But if your layout is closer to shoulder or eye level (I'd say 48" elevation or higher), it's not as noticeable anyway. As DerJohn said, it's all up to you. Those of us who've been in the Diner a while, talk about "Teffy's Rule" around here - (if someone doesn't like the way you do your layout) "Don't let the door hit you on the on the way out!" You get to make your own rules, in other words.
Fergie, excellent cabeese there - and I see DerJohn addressed the cats question, huh? Paul made me look again at the Mikado - at first, I thought it was one of your 2-10-2's. Nice loco! And good to hear you have about all your work done and no toasted fingers or toes.
Paul, now I know why I was never able to get those Walthers ore cars - you were buying them by the container-load! Good to hear you have the engineer cap ready for young granddaughter once she gets home.
Ed, got your email and sent you one back. Thanks. Better watch out with next week's game that you don't root too hard for the Giants, and get yourself in trouble with Fran.
Heck, Johnboy, if the car was all it took to get the gals swarming over me, I'd've been married by now! Sounds like you have the right house for your area's weather (and up there, you need it, I'm sure). Good that the new furnace will be simpler to maintain the filter(s) on, though.
Jeff, I'll second that nomination for "Spray Can Rembrant".
Sounds like both Lee and DerJohn got side-tracked with other things in trying to get a MRR'ing task done. And of course, I cannot at all relate to having any experiences like that, right? Oh, noooo.... Sometimes it can be frustrating, though.
Well, past my bedtime here, so I'll be going. See you all in the morning!
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Evening, all.
Spent today doing absolutely nothing, cold and snowy out. All it takes is for a couple of 60 degree days to roll by in January and I am back to hating the cold weather. Unless it snows, and then I like it again.
And speaking of snow, the white stuff JIMRC shipped our way- sorry, Jim, gotta blame someone- was about the finest particled -is that a word?- snow I have seen in a long time. It looked more like a coat of flat white spray paint- I must have the Gulf Midland on my mind- than snow. I sure do stop alot and insert other thoughts, huh? Oh well, thats the way I hear things in my mind.
PaulB- Maybe you could stick a DL109/Centipede combo on the heads of your ore drags. With those two for power, you would only need 3 jennies and a bobber caboose to have a prototypical length train! Glad to hear that the little one is doing fine. I just took a call from Amyjo, she told me that our 16 year old neice is in hospital, guess she had a bug and got dehydrated so they admitted her. She's a healty girl, unless the poor excuse we have for a hospital messes up, she should be ok.
Fergie- Good to hear that you got all of that accomplished without mishap, because at your advanced age you don't heal as quickly as us youngsters do! Just like it says on MESS rolling stock- "Safety Always Comes Before Accidents"......errr uhhhh no, wait, that doesn't make any sense....I need to get new glasses.
LSW- If you promise me and Paul B a tour of the docks and a few of your cutters up there, we'll take care of those cars you need serviced! Every man has a price!
Still spitting snow, but other than slick roads- like pcarrell said- not much more of a threat. Wellllll, better get to w**k, or something.
I'm thinking it's gonna be something.
Looks like JimRC took the last parking place on Page 96, so it's all on me folks. Go ahead and order two of everything, just in case someone gets hungry when you tell them about the delicious chow you had here!
[For forest turf I use a special blend of tea leaves, coffee grounds, and a dash of woodland scenic's dull green grass.]
***Lee, I'm afraid I would have to drink the coffee...or are they used coffee grounds? And do you bake or treat all that stuff prior to using it? What keeps bugs from taking up residence on your layout? Interesting!
***FoulRift, I sent it today. If it isn't there tomorrow, let me know and I'll pm you instead.
Have a good night all. Rob
Good Morning from Tipton IN !
Bill Tidler Jr.
Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Good Morning, Zoe, Bill T. I see that Philnrunt and Rob were in pretty late last night. Were you fellas doing MRR'ing stuff at least, and that was why you were up so late? Oh, yeah, Zoe - I'll have some scrambled eggs, bacon and some hash browns
with a cup of coffee, please. No, I'll just have one order of each - bad enough that Philnrunt's distracted with that snow, I won't hit him too badly in the wallet. Did I hear him say that he's easily confused amused?
Actually, if I were sending that snow to you guys east, I wouldn't mind having a little of it to watch for myself. But seems like it's been going by us to the north - just enough to get Inchand Jerry before it starts through Indiana and Ohio. On the weather this morning, it looked like even eastern Kentucky might've got a little bit of the flakes out of this round. But no snow or sleet until Thursday, they're saying, so you guys east of me might get a break for a little while.
Uh, Philnrunt, you might be careful about taunting Fergie. Has anyone mentioned to you the story about the Lancaster?...
Guess I'd better get busy finishing up my breakfast for now. That 'w' thing awaits at the office.
Blessings and safe driving for those of you in the 'White Zone' lately,
