Morning folks!
Chloe, I'll have some coffee some scrambled eggs, sausage and some pancakes! Thanks!
43 degrees here this morning and the possibility of gracing us with some rain later today. We need it too. Severe drought conditions continue with a - 18" on the rain gauges and Falls Lake is - 12' and the water supply is at 95 days.
Jerry, are you sure the image you are trying to put in the avatar is linked to a URL and is hosted at a photo site like Photobucket for example.

Got my new all-in-one installed yesterday and quickly discovered that when I would the new unit my old printer would constantly go on and off line. I finally just unplugged the old one and am now using the new for printing as well as scanning. It has one little bug that I haven't worked out yet. It wants to print on 'Landscape' no matter whether the preference is set for landscape or portrait.

Not sure Jerry!
But here is something for you guys to look see:
It's a rail and flange lubricator, I might try to come up with a HO 1:87 of this 1:1 on the layout.
Found the device along the CSX line in Wake Forest a few weeks ago, see more images of it on my Photos Gallery VII website page.
Cheers,
Now look what I done did! Belly up folks, dinner is on me tonight!
How about some bone-in prime rib...
Afternoon Gang: I got some good news from John. The baby has gained 14oz.
PC: I'm sorry about Maggie. I'm sure that she will be missed.
I'm going to cut out and do some chores. I'll try and get back later.
Good Afternoon from Winterpeg!
A cup of coffee please Chloe and a piece of apple crumble too.
Last night we went to a Royal Winnipeg Ballet production of the Nutcracker. It was truly a wonderful evening and I find that although I have seen it several times I never tire of it. Those dancers are really amazing atheletes considering the control of their moves in time to music no less. It was a full blown production with great costumes, sets, the full symphony orchestra, etc.
Jerry, you asked about the Athearn RS3 I have ordered. It is an up-dated version but I don't know if it is based on a Roundhouse version or not. I'll pick it up from my delivery point south of the border in a couple of weeks and I will let you know how it looks and runs. I have to order a decoder for it but I can run it on DC. I have a hookup for a DC pack on the layout as I have a couple of those President Choice engines (IHC) that I like run once in a while.
Jim, I'm not a particular Alco fan but I do like some of the early small diesels. I have an SW8 and an SW9. In fact I prefer using them for switching to my PK2 0-6-0. I would have liked the RS3 in CN green and gold but you take what you can get if you want Canadian locos. The SW9 is CP so it will now have some company. I just wish I could find a CP caboose. Looks like I'll have to wait for a Truline Trains version that is supposed to be out soon.
It is cloudy today but not too cold which is a good thing as I accompany one of our dogs when he wants outside. He is nearly 13 and lost an eye to infection last month so he has trouble navigating. That he is still with us is amazing as he has had diabetes for over 6 years. He had gone blind as dogs do with diabetes but we had lens implants done a few years ago so he still has some sight in the one eye. I told my wife he should have an eye patch to make him look dangerous like a pirate but she wasn't too crazy about the idea.
It will soon be time to tuck into some of Ryan's prime rib! Can't wait. Think I'll have a glass or two of a nice Shiraz with that too.
See you soon.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. It's actually been bearable all week, and I've now gone about 6 days without turning on the a/c. Hopefully it will continue this way at least through New Year's.
It's been a quiet week, as is normal here for Christmas. The most exciting thing that we did was cook a venison leg for Christmas dinner. A (very) good friend gave me the leg when we were in Houston at Thanksgiving, and we saved it for this occasion. First time I had cooked venison myself, and it turned out pretty good. Lots left over too. In fact, tonight's supper was open faced hot venison sandwiches! Yum. But if the truth be known, I think I'd be just as happy with some of Ryan's prime rib!
Got out to the orange grove on Wednesday, and the harvest continues to go slowly but ‘delisciously'. Still have tons of fruit to pick.
PC - sorry to hear about Maggie. I know it's tough to lose a pet.
Garry - glad your daughter and grandson escaped serious injury.
I'm trying to work up my enthusiasm to start in on the trains again after New Year's. Today I figured I ought to start by clearing away enough space for me to get decent access to the layout. I think that's going to be a work in progress for a few days.
Have a good one,

PC sorry to hear about maggie was that another dog at the beginning of the vidio in the back ground. They get to be part of the family we concider ours are children as we never had any.
Hope all gets better and tell wife don't forget meds, meds are important and for our benifit.(SP)

***Ryan, that rail and flange lubricator is interesting. Looks like a gooey mess, but I guess that's the idea.LOL
***PC, hope the wife responds quickly enough to the meds to make her appointment. You folks have had more than your share of challenges. Sending healing vibes your way.
So, what is the next "best time of year" for selling off some vintage trains? Hay is in short supply and very expensive this year so I will probably have to make some quick cash to keep our critters fed this winter, (even at the expense of this hobby.).
Finished most of the book shelves out on the painting porch tonight. The rain continues on and off with more predicted for Sunday. If this keeps up we might not beat the 100 year drought record after all, not that I would mind missing that one. Rob

What up all?
Just hangin' out here. Sometimes I hate getting up early most mornings. It makes it hard to sleep in once in a while!
My wifes aunt is coming over today with some Christmas presents for the kids. That'll be fun! Funny thing.....kids seem to like Christmas presents? Strange, huh?
Just kind of a cold, cloudy day on tap for today.
Today: mainly cloudy, cooler - high: 36 Tonight: partial clearing, cool - low: 29
Good day to do a whole lot of nothing!
So what's up with you?
RT, yeah, that was one of my daughters dogs I think.
Good morning all,
Well today it's going to be a steamy 40F with snow showers and the low will only be 30F. My son is coming out for a visit this week so maybe we can finish the 5 sections of bench work still sitting out in the garage.
Hope you all have a good day.
Lee
in a ATSF mug, please & thanks.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Rob
How about some cinnamon rolls and coffee Chloe! Thanks!
Just wanted to let you all know that my Piedmont Division (PD) web site was selected as the Web Site of the Week on 2Guyz and some Trains website. It is the first time my PD website has been a feature on another site so I am quite excited.
Thoughts and prayers to all in need of recovery and rest!
Afternoon Gang: We just got in from looking at a house for my daughters family. It was nice enough with 4 acres of land. They are asking $430,000 for it which is too much. Place is nice but needs alot of work. It did have a new shop building that Rob, her husband, would like.
I guess we're going into the hospital to see the baby so I'd better sign off.
My best to all.

Hoople, why not split the room diagonally? That way you get about 12x14! Just don't take the wall with the door......
Evening Gang: So where is everyone? It's 8:30pm and the diner is on page 2.
I didn't go to see the baby but stayed home and took care of a few chores. She is still doing well but the weight that she put on is water and she will loose that. She is receiving mothers milk so I expect that will help her.
The daughter and grand daughters will be leaving Wednesday. Untill then we will be looking at some more homes.
I guess I'll sign off.
Good Night All
Jeff, I always wondered about your weather reports: how could it be so cold that far south. Then I had that trip to Charleston, SC, when I woke up to 26F weather. Now I understand.
Ohio has been very warm so far especially here on the north coast. Still no snow to brag about, Eleanor (my snow blower) hasn't been out of the garage yet! I remember as a kid we would normally have our first snow near Halloween and a white Christmas was almost a guaranteed thing.
Well my son and I went to the family's after Christmas left over party and had a good time, played LRC and chatted with several of the family I don't often see.
Good evening, Janie - first, Diners, my apologies since I'll probably miss something important. I wanted to get in before I had a dozen pages to catch up on.
Folks, I'm sorry about leaving the Diner on track 2 because I was gone today. I'll try to drop in more often so we can make sure we don't coast back to track 2 again.
Reason I was gone is I have my friend Linda staying with me through about New Year's Day. (No, it's not a romantic thing for me, though a certain female may wish otherwise) Those of you who've been around the Diner and the Coffee Shop may recall about a year plus ago, I went to lend moral support for her at the wedding of one of her twin daughter's wedding. She was suitably impressed at the floor space and all that I had cleared away. Ed, would you like to borrow the bulldozer I rented for a few days? I think there's a few left on the rental, so it's paid for anyway... Oh, by the way, that venison sounds good. (My friend Mark makes a pretty good venison chili)
We went and saw National Treasure, Part 2 this afternoon. Pretty good, and as Linda pointed out - at the end of this one, they left hints and clues about another sequel.
Also got notice that the covered hopper I bought from Amazon.com arrived at the post office today. So Monday, I'll go pick it up and see how good it is.
Ryan, that roast beef looks good - got a slice left that's more to the medium side, please? Yeah, even warmed up is good for me. Thanks!
Lee, my condolences on your letting the cat out of the bag to your girlfriend. At least, this should get you some brownie points you can trade later for a LHS trip and/or some MRR'ing stuff. Hope you and your son get the rest of the benchwork done in the garage.
Jeff, that loco looks like an excellent one. So, how did a Canadian steamer get all the way down to the KCS in Louisiana, anyway?
Paul, are home prices that high down your way? Sheesh! that the seller gets more common sense and brings that price down (or that your kids find a better one a a better price). Good to hear that your granddaughter's continuing to improve. As others have said, they take better care of premies nowadays, and wind up being nice, healthy and sturdy kids.
NH I-5! Have you been in the Diner before? Have a cup and fill us in on what kind of MRR'ing/layout you have (or have planned). HO? N? or other scale? Time & setting?
Almost forgot - (I'd told Linda about my mattress being in need of replacement and...) Linda said she'd been saving up, and was going to buy me a new mattress and box springs, and I asked her if it would be okay if I took the money she was going to pay for that, and fix my laptop (she said that would be okay). So I may have the laptop working again (YAY!!) before too much longer.
Time for me to get going. Prayers for all those in need of healing, comfort and peace.
And looks like it's my turn to cover dessert and breakfast (since most of you appear to have turned in for bed already). Janie, keep a tab for me and I'll be back tomorrow to settle up.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Evening folks! Just coffee (yeah I know-"as usual" but Ryan's roast beef looks as tempting as the roast beef we had a few nights ago. Dawn picked it up from a store just south of Akron she used to work at years ago, & everything they sell is the best I've ever tasted. (as much as I'd like to name it, I can't as I feel it'd violate forum policy on advertising!)
Been a quiet day-did the usual necessity shopping & some work at the workbench, but feeling a bit tired & run down. (yeah I know, I am up late, but someone has to keep Chloe & Zoe occupied during these late hours!) I'll be heading for bed right after this.
Lee-yes it has been good here weatherwise, but don't jinx us! Remember last January was pretty mild too, & then the bottom fell out in February, & again in April! Our railfanning bud from England came over in April, & got delayed in watching his beloved Cleveland Indians play, as they got snowed out & had to move to Milwaukee for a few games! (oh yeah, I'll try to get those parts pics for you tomorrow-was going to do that today but forgot
Jim-I can relate-I've been in need of a new mattress for the longest time! It's almost embarrassing the condition it's in. My Mom's been telling me, "you need a new mattress-I'm going to buy you one." We'll see if I get one before she does!
Well, both Chloe & Zoe are trying to shoo me out of here saying I look tired. They rule things here, so I guess I better give in to their demands!
Nite All!
Hi Chloe.....yeah, can't sleep.......how 'bout a nice cup of hot tea? Thanks! Yeah, I'll get the tab.....Jim's about to be sleepin' on the floor!
Well, I haven't been in the layout room for a while.....been busy, ya know? Think I just might have to make it in there tomorrow, or I guess thats today now, and clean the place up so I can mess it up again. You guys go through cycles like that too? I mean, I make the place all nice, then I start a project and when I turn around, the place is trashed again! So I clean it up, and notice a project that needs done again! It's a vicious cycle!
I'll tell ya, that backdrop is going to drive me nuts.....but I think I have a couple of ideas for it now that I've had time to think about it.
Mmmmm, tea is good!
Thinkin' I'll just sip my tea in this corner booth and drift off to sleeeeeeeeee................
Good morning,
As far as remodeling, From February to December this year I remodeled my Aunt's house here in town to help out the family. We started with digging a moat around the house and replacing all the footer drains and storm drains for the downspouts, painted everything, fixed all the cracks in the walls, replaced the cement floor in the garage, and I could take up 3 pages with the 700 hours of work I put in her house (hence my little hiatus from lurking in the diner this summer) anyways the house was appraised at $80,000 when I started, now it is appraised at $164,500.00. Not too bad considering her kids threw in $27,000 in materials and the rest was sweat equity by yours truly.
Dorothy (AKA Dee-Dee) is really supportive of my MRR hobby. She is typically disappointed if I don't bring home something from the train shows. She understands the nature of my real job and that diversion is necessary to keep my sanity . She bought me a 5 DVD set "Railway Journeys - The Vanishing Age of Steam" for Christmas, good detail shots if you're modeling steam.
Well the last snow storm only dropped 3" - 6" of snow and it melted within 3 days, so you can't call that real snow.
