Mostly clear skies will be around this morning before a few clouds move in this afternoon. Temperatures will top out in the upper 40's today with a light west wind. Expect a few clouds to stick around tonight with temperatures dropping back into the mid 20's with light southeast winds. Thursday will become mostly cloudy with a few areas of light rain and temperatures slightly above average in the mid 40's. Friday looks to be quiet with mostly cloudy skies before rain and snow move in Saturday night through Monday.

    22F and partly cloudy this morning though it sure looks completely overcast just now. I'll have a regular and a donut to go please Zoe.

     Museum last night where I cleaned up the track on the Npossible gauge layout and worked on some Lionel stuff trying to get it to run better. Most of what the museum has is just about used up with worn bushings and excessive end play in the armatures so we're going to have to come up with a rebuild program if we're to have any running locomotives in Lionel by the end of next year. Guess we'll have to invest in a rebuild guide and some parts.

     Lots to do again today as we thrash to get long term things underway and parts ordered. I'll pop by later if possible.   CUL, J.R.

Hey guys.

Well yesterday I found out that my table was not wide enough. but I found out that I have put the hinges in the wrong place making it a 2.5ft by 7ft. now it's a true 3.5ft by 5ft. 

And I'm in House Orientated scale, I thinking of doing a freelance layout from 1900 to 1950. (yes I know It might go against the natural laws of model railraoding for you prototypical layout people) You will see on my layout an 0-6-0 tripple heading with a BL2 and a GP7? (I know my NYC engine is a GP something or other. It looks very much like a GP7 so I'll go with that.) and a 0-4-0 tripple heading with 2 F7 A-units. with a whole range of rolling stock. I got old time boxcars, 40ft, and one 50ft boxcar, 2 gondolas, a open top hopper a 50ft flat car, one tank car, and many more. I also have a PA-? It's in the 1st trackside diner.

for my track plan I thinking of having a one track mainline going around the end of the table with a 1/2 inch bufferzone. a spur will turn to the inside of the mainline and trun into the engine/car repair facility with employment of a Truntable,  a nother  spurn will become part of a passing track that will double as the local depo, and possibly a industrial spur will come off one end of the passing track to serve either a coal mine or a nother depo in town for the local shops and busness's. now I might have a coal mine on a spur that ends near the edge of the table and with some modofying of the mainline I can fit the mine in there. and I might use this layout as my trial one for using DCC. with help from the club, you guys, and a friend of mine who is a retired engineer and used to work for ex. Guilford now Pan Amm.

Mitch, after you pasted the link info in the post editor, highlight the entire link and (at the top where the "Message" is and all the tools) find the 'link' icon - looks like a piece of chain - it's in the fifth group if you look for the vertical dividers. Click on the 'link' icon and that should turn the link into a clickable one. Hope that helps!

Colby - the Turtle Creek layout series first ran in 2002, but in the January 2005 MR issue (where they ran how to do the extension to it) there was included an insert that covered about all of the original layout and building it. One caution - there's a difference between the overhead drawing of the layout in the insert and the insert's directions on how much track and switches you need. The part in the insert that has the track list is a few switches short and doesn't have some of the sidings in it which are shown in the overhead drawing. I think the overhead drawing would make for better operating, IMHO. You might check your local library - they may have the 2002 MR's and the 2005 one.

Well good morning everyone!

And a fine morning it is!

I guess our weather guesser feels bad for freezing us all this last weekend. Now he's saying that it's going to be warmer then normal for a few days. Then, as icing on the cake, he's calling for a little snow for early next week. Looks like a white Christmas this year!

So the wife is home, and even she says that this surgery wasn't as painful as the last. Thats not to say it was a party, just that it's more tolerable. I saw the work that was done and, while I'm no doctor, it looked good I thought. The repair that they did looked much stronger when they were done. The doc says that this should actually shorten the overall healing time a little. I'm all for that, and so is she!

Well, I suppose I ought to make like I work here!

JR. What is with these people in Danbury assaulting Santa.  I really have to object to that. That is not fair play.  Even though SHE knew what SHE wanted for Christmas, SHE should have asked rather than just grabbing.

Hope all are feeling the healing power and are on the upswing with their health situation.

Finally had some time to have a good look at these two new bulkhead flats that arrived the other day. I am very pleased with them. Athern has done a great job on them and the pipe loads.  It is really great that they have started to realize the necessity of different road numbers. Boy that has been a long time coming.

Well I'm back at work, so I had better make it look like I am doing something here.

We have a busy schedule lined up for the Cristmas holidays.  I'll hold off on major model raildoad projects until the new year. It's be 2008. Wow! How di it get to be 2008 so soon????

Good morning All....Its sunny and warmer here today posta be up over 50 saturday so we should get rid of snow but the terre haute weather guesser say colder with maybe a little snow again Christmas I'll haveHam and eggs toast coffee please..Thank You...I am still working on getting the plate girder bridges I cut apart ready to put on the core of the turntable...I am bidding on a Atlas IC caboose on Ebay but don't think I'll get it....I can't wait till after Christmas and I can set my work bench up and start working on all the rebuilds..I think I'll start on a little 4 wheel boober caboose that needs to be stripped and repainted and couplers...I have been watching Ebay for a deal on couplers like the M/T's best but may settle for Atlas...I like the Atlas but they seem to fall apart real easy...well maybe I'll drop back in this afternoon...You all have a good one...Jerry

HI ALL:

         Well the weather guesser is at it again, 70+ gusts and rain, here we go again..................... Everybody is doing well al the cats are in the garage and my one fav is back to sleeping on the new bridge!!!!!!!! The building of Branchline kits is fun lots of small parts and really good detail. The walls are being repainted the shade of blue that jeff gave a long time back. I resprayed the ceiling a flat white and re did the lights no more flouresents now small spots on track lighting with the new lights from sylvinia, good color balance. 9am our time and Kathy is up and wanting coffee please, a small grapefruit juice and a bowl of maple and brown sugar [fake] oatmeal, thankyou. Good now I don't have to cook for a while.LOL LOL LOL ...Still having a hard time with design of logging layout. Lots of paper on floor.  10 by 10 room with 9ft high ceilings,double doors on east side and 3 windows evenelly spaced on 3 sides 4ft up and 3 by 5. nonopening. Well...................................

I  will try again later. Prayers for all Mass on friday morn.

Good afternoon to all, we had a great time at the "Steaming Tender" ( former Palmer,Ma trainstation ) last night. Robert Buck, the owner of my favorite hobby shop in Warren, Ma, was at the head of the table which was set up in an "L" shape around a Christmas tree. There were 18 couples there last night from all over the area. I thought it might be just a local event, but MRR's came from Springfield to the west and Ashland to the east. Bob (Robert) brought a bag full of new items that just arrived at his store for people to check over, as well as some excellent photos of trains and locomotives dating way back...I particularly liked the photos that he had of Berkshires ( a1c ) sportsmodels crossing the diamond in Palmer, Ma ( Duke you would love those!!! )

One of the guys brought the new New Haven RR Steamer just out from BLI, what a beauty that is !!!!! I got a chance to check it over...J.R. , you will want this !!!!!

We finally got all dug out from all the storms, another one is due to hit tonight and tomorrow, but our area is only supposed to get nicked with 1-3", but Colby's area in Maine might get 12". We have 24+" on the ground here, so it will definetly be a white Christmas here this year.

JOHNBOY: Must be that gingerbread that you ate so much of in the Diner last night.....take some Alkaseltzer and get some rest.

TRAINMAN: What is it with all the fish down south??? First Jeffrey now another MRR'r from the deep south, pour some of Fergie's Scotch on the fish first !! LOL

CHUCK: You can't get a break this Fall season in the Northwest, one big wind and rainstorm after another!!! At least your not where the mudslides are, we saw those on local TV here, very bad situation with the flooding also. I'll take the snow anyday, you can keep the floods and mudslides. I see you like those Branchline kits too. I have several to build this Winter. BTW, the Branchline plant is only 50 min ride from my house in CT straight down I-84.

JIM: The meal was great, the trip out there was not as good, tons of traffic at 5pm, I should have departed at 4 to miss the major commute and shopping crowd. The wife really enjoyed herself, she met an old school pal there after 28 years, small world isn't it?

PAUL: AARP has some nice plans, glad you were able to find one that suited your needs. Hopefull it will now leave you with some extra $$ for trains.

RYAN: The least I could do is send you the snowman, it sure doesn't look like north central NC is going to get a white Christmas this year, but, you never know!!!

DER JOHN: What's with the switch motor on top? There wasn't any way to mount underneith? I'm sure you checked it out though.

DUKE: Any Berkshires in the stocking this year? How about a northern? A book on trains, A section of track ???  Noooo?   Ok,.......... a piece of COAL ???? Have YOU been a good boy this year????

ED: Ahhh, I see you've been sweating in the OJ grove again, nice and cool up here Ed, 35F right now, I'm in my "T" shirt widening the driveway a bit before the next big one. Keep those tanker cars with OJ rollin' north big guy !!!

PC: Glad to see that the wife is back home, I know that you are taking great care of her, and we will do our part with prayers for her, as well as all those in need.

Evening Gang: Again not much to report. We set out hay for the time we're gone. I put 5 bales in the lower field and put 1 in the corral pen nex to where the heifers are. The warning light for the air cleaner being plugged came on on the new tractor. The air cleaner was clean so it may have a problem with the sender. I'll take the tractor in and drop it off so the dealer can check it out while we're in Albaqueque. At least it's under warranty.

Tomorrow we'll finish up with the getting the animals taken care of and pack. Friday we'll head out.

It is snowing again here in Maine (I am about 45 minutes north of Colby). The scanner has been reporting people off the road pretty steady. One was real ironic couple from Florida just got pulled back onto the road then went off, officer was requesting a wrecker again seems they wanted to go to the nearest hotel.

PC hope your wife is doing well, Jeff hope the foot continues to improve. ANd for all that are not feeling well you take it easy so you may be feeling better by Christmas.

For those who may be traveling in the near future hope you have a safe trip.

Evenin', Chloe - I'll have an eggnog (non-Morgan, thanks, I'm driving home from the diner ) and a bowl of the beef stew, if the cook made it again tonight.

 

Had a first for me today - having a session via translator(). Interesting, to say the least! Language I had never studied on school (of course, that was a while back anyway...).

I was looking today to see about what kind(s) of covered hoppers I could use for 1950's era hauling of grain/beans (preferably Western or Southwestern RR's). I think a goodly chunk of the ones I have will have to be switched over to cement plant use instead (2-bay, round hatches, etc.). I may need some more of the 2893 cu. ft. 3-bay ones instead (Walthers, Athearn) - have three Athearn currently, I think, vs. about 5 of the 2-bay cov'd. hoppers. Some info I have seen online covers some models that aren't around anymore (like Intermountain ltd. edition ones, etc.), so this may take some more looking...

Better get to my stew, so I can finish up and head home. About my bedtime!  Prayers for rest, comfort and healing for those ailing and/or recuperating.

   Hello all.

   Got an e-mail today from firsthobby letting me know the 2 Atlas 33,000 gal Suburban Propane tanks cars that I had forgotten about ( ordered them back in Feb, I think) were shipped today. Good-o. Why, it's just like Christmas in December! 

    We have a freezing fog tonight, hope the roads don't get too slick. A nice quiet night is what we all want, for about the next 15 years. One of our Jay Co deputies just stopped by, he has worked midnights since he started, about 8 years now, and a few weeks ago he was asked if he wanted to work days to cover some vacationing co-workers. He said sure, his first dayshift was last Sun, the day we picked up 8" of new snow. He was supposed to work days all this week, he told them this morning he would head back to graveyard and to never offer him dayshift again!

    We go to Indy later today to pick up our nephew, K.C. Not looking forward to the drive, and the nasty traffic we will no doubt get into, but very much looking forward to seeing the boy. Sure hope our weather doesn't do him in! We decided to keep his bedroom in our front room, and to temporarily turn the new addition into our sitting room. I brought in some of my camping equipment,(chairs, cot etc)  all we need is a campfire in the middle of the floor and we could be out in the woods.

    Well, guess we'll be a talkin' to y'all later!
