Evening Gang: I've got a cold. I guess it's been coming on for sometime now I just didn't know what it was. It really hit while mary Ann and I were putting the new round bale feeders together. We had to buy two because the cattle tore up the ones that we had. These are a couple of the high priced ones. I just hope they last more then one season.

Lee: I grew up one mile from Lake Michagan. When we got a good snow at the house the folks farther inland got off light.

Got a question for those of you who've used some of the types of 'ready-track' like Kato Unitrack or Bachmann E-Z-Track. I think I recall that the way they connect the track pieces is different, but are the shoulders the same width, and are equivalent tracks (that is two of the 9" straight sections, or two of the 18" radius pieces, etc.) the same length when comparing Bachmann E-Z-Track to the Kato Unitrack? Trying to avoid having to hand-draw and enter into the railset editor if I don't have to...

Skipping MRR club tonight because I wanted to see if I have most of the doors and windows (and louvers, though I'd be surprised) that I would need for the church. (Maybe I can put a digital camera on my list to Santa. Sure would like to post pics as I go...) I may also work on assembling some more of those Grandt Line relay boxes. 

But for now, I'm going to chowing down on this Stroganoff!

Hey Gang: I'm back. I got some supper and went to bed. Now I can't sleep because the sinaces are draining and I've got a splitting headach. Stupid cold. I guess that's what I get for driving that open tractor into town to get it fixed. The worst part of this is the TV programing on Mondays. I'd go and work on the drawing for the layout for Clark Garden but I'd probably screw something up and have to start over again.

Getting some cold tonight here in NC, but after reading about all that snow and ice up north, the temps and weather here aren't nothing compared to what you folks living north of the Mason Dixon are getting!

Whew....after reading all the weather reports posted in here and Fergies sea legs on steroids episodes makes me feel darn thankful for living in the South. Now for those who know me... I feel like I'm living up North now, having lived in Louisiana pert near 95% of my life until 2 years ago.

Jim - That Beef Stroganoff looks like the right dinner for a stick to your ribs meal! Set me up for a plate Chloe!

 Had one of those "can't wait until Monday is over" days. And it nearly is! Anyway it is good to be in the diner enjoying one of the specials.

 Okay Johnboy, I give up. The Riders are the greatest football team that ever was or ever could be. Now will you stop sending that snow and cold? The snow is due to arrive tonight but at least it is only going down to 5F to be followed by -20F tomorrow, oh and then there is the windchill to boot. Oh well, at least there aren't ducks floating down my drive. They have more sense and have all left to join Jeff.

Jim, regarding your question on sectional track. Bachmann track and Kato Unitrack have completely different roadbed and locking mechanism not to mention that Bachmann is code 100 and Unitrack is 83. Regarding Kato Unitrack it is all metric and is not is the same lengths or radii as the other brands. I just changed to Unitrack and instead of 18" their closest is actually 191/4". You can join Atlas TruTrack with Kato but you have to remove the roadbed from the Atlas track and are then faced with a height trasition. I in fact used some of my TruTrack for my service yard as it is at a lower level and just used a piece of cork roadbed that I sloped to get the necessary level change. By the way, the Kato stuff is very well made.

No progress on the layout in the last week and likely little until after Christmas. I was hoping to make a start at the scenery but no luck so far. How do some of you find the time to turn out those great looking layouts?

It is chilly and snowy here. Thank you Ryan the fire will go along with the hot cocoa please Chloe. I have to say Fergie has won the prize for worse weather. Just his description scares me. We are still getting snow but at least the seas are calm lol.

Ryan have watched your roundhouse remodel with interest. Coming along nicely. Paul hope you can shake the cold I just hate the post nasel drip stuff, starting in NOv I run 2 humidifiers in the house so I can breath. PC glad to hea ryour wife is doing well. Well snow plow is comng thru again so time to clean the end of the driveway then bed. Oh yeh try and put the dogs out they hate snow (Italian greyhounds they are the definition of wuss)

   Boy, never thought I'd be able to brag on Indiana weather in Dec, but it's just another grey cold day here. Just talked to my friend in Kent, Washington, he has some of the "ducks on the sidewalk weather " too. Sounds like winter is ramping up all over the continent. Ed probably has frost on his kiwis!

    The power fianlly went on and off enough last night to screw up the computers, right after I made my post everything shut down again, and when the power came back up, the puters didn't.

   JimR and Cox47- It really is one of the little treasures in my life that Amyjo is so supportive, and I am really lucky in that area. And in the in-laws too, my MIL and FIL are great, of course him being an old N&W (via NKP) hand doesn't hurt. And the MIL is a big Star Trek fan, so we argue the Kirk- Picard thing out a bunch. She is a hoot. 3 of my BILs and one very handy SIL are doing the majority of the work on the addition, the graveyard shift keeps me from spending the entire day helping them. They are a great bunch of people, and I'm lucky to be part of the family.

    All of you in harm's way keep your heads down, stay dry and warm and we'll be a talkin' to ya. 

   Oh, and  Jeffery- I asked over on the other post about KCS666, havn't been over there yet, but for the diner group, I'll ask again- Isn't she known as the "devil's own six axle" around KC?

All this talk of weather: tonight it drops to 28 and inspite of last nights rain, we are currently under a Red Flag fire warning because of 0% precip. Our ducks are still looking for water in their pond that isn't there. At least they have some low tubs full of water to bathe in.

So far I have had to chase one of our cats out of their heated dog house 3 times tonight. The cat kicks them out. They are sweet little things and designed for summer weather only. If it is too cold for a human to be outside in a swimsuit, it is probably too cold for an IG. -Rob

Evening/Morning folks-just a hot "cuppa" (black please) & off to a warm bed.

Yep it is December, & Ohio, we know it! Lee explained the lake effect thing pretty good-we can get it 50 miles south too if the wind/conditions are right. Rarely as much as up there, but we were still getting a little bit here-just a "skift of snow" on the ground-& making some surfaces "slicker than deerguts on a doorknob." (to slightly paraphrase Mitch Jayne the bass player of the bluegrass band the Dillards on their "Live!!! Almost!!!" album. (the same band that played the Darlin's on Andy Griffith)

I'm still at the train workbench as much as possible-I want to get at least my ATW ex SM car done by the early part of January-back to work thru Thurs this week but off for another 2 wks after that so that should help.

Last night we were having a good hard wind blown rain from the south, & in the process, discovered a slight leak in the basement. Upon inspection, it appeared to be coming from the corner where the front door is above. Definitely something to take care of, since both ends of my future point to point layout (planned bi-level) will tentatively begin/terminate right there.

Dawn's having renewed success with interest in her beads selling them-now she's psyched-she's off for the next 2 days, so that means major beadwork in the studio! (the upstairs loft-she gets that, I get the basement )

We have 3 Italian Grey Hounds, the first one I bought when she adopted me at a pet store in New Hamspshire she is Misty and 18 pds grey and whitecolor, Lilie (Bunkie) who we got from the New England Rescue about 18 pds fawn color, and Lacy who is 9 pds white. We keep them confined to the living room or non of the beds in the house will stay made. Bunkie and Lacy hate to get there feet wet and have not been seen much other than as lumps under there blankies.

My wife wants to know how you heated the dog house or were you bought it at, she thinks they need one. And I agree with you if you wont wear a swimsuit outside then the dogs wont want to go out.

I'd go with the ducks. Try a foot of green water on the upper deck The light atop of the Jack staff was found at the stern the next day some 295' aft of where the staff is. The good thing was we were hove too and making about 2 knots headway and being the preverbial "Duck". Didn't take too much spray but enough. What is the critical thing is if the ship looses headway and goes beam onto the sea. Then it gets perilous.

Seriously, Sorry to here of your home situation as those can be a very hard on the heart and soul. Hopefully what ever transpires won't be too hard on you. Hard thing will be not to take sides.

Lee: Don't feel bad  many don't relis the thought of a transfer here. She's a great sea boat the best we have bar none. However she's 43 years old an antique by todays standards and having a whole lot of annoying small glitches. you can find us on the www.sailwx.info site under Hudson . However our ship's wind direction is out by about 90 degrees and when the wind is on out stern it reads 20% low. It will get fixed in the new year... sometime.

Snow showers are moving in from the northwest and will move into the Wabash Valley this evening lasting into the morning hours tomorrow. Snowfall amounts will range from a dusting to the southwest near Vincennes and Olney to near two inches farther northeast near Indianapolis and Lafayette. Expect snowfall to total around one to one and half inches along the I-70 corridor by Wednesday morning.

Got the Grandt Line windows and doors ordered for the church. Some of the ones I'd at first emailed to our LHS owner/MRR club member were out of stock, so I tried changing the style of windows in hopes that the other style might be in stock. We'll see, huh?

Italian greyhounds, huh? Is that a lot different from regular greyhounds (if there is a 'regular' breed of the hounds)? And fellas, I'd be careful about calling them wusses - Vinnie might walk in and misunderstand your remarks to mean him. I'll bet Kevin's (or Rob's) greyhounds make it to their food dishes pretty quickly, though...

Fergie, how long is the Hudson? Must be fairly big, if 295' aft is still onboard the ship. I see the Terry Fox appears to be still in port, according to the dot on your linked site pages. Looks like the storm messed up with your nice path around the Atlantic prior to that - it'd been a fairly regular path, and then there're all these scattered dots in the past day or two (which I guess is when the storm came along). Keep her up and running and back to port so you can go skiing on terra firma...

Looks like we're going to get some snow 'round here!  Should have an inch or two by tomorrow morning. 

It's so funny to watch everyone around here every year when we get snow.  Everyone freaks out and loses it.  Maybe it's from living in New England, Wyoming, and the snow belt in Ohio all those years, but c'mon people.  It's only an inch or two!  I don't even take note until you start approaching a foot or so, and then it's only mildly interesting.  It doesn't become fun until you hit the 18" mark.  Oh well!  It's entertaining to watch everyone wig out, I will say that!

The best investment for your computer or other sensitive equipment is a battery backup.  Mine cost $60.  It's on the order of a surge protector, but it protects from brown outs and loss of power.  If the power goes out there is a USB cable from the battery backup to the computer to tell the computer it needs to shut down. If you are running WIN-XP the software is already installed in the operating system. Also most manufactures of battery backup will insure any equipment connected to the battery backup (UPS or uninterruptable power supply) in the event of a lightning strike. I highly recommend having one!
