I love your saw filer's shed. Lots of light coming through those windows! Here is a picture of mine. The sun light is real.

That's a nice little critter. What is it?

It's On30 ... a gas-mechanical by Bachmann and it runs like a top ... but it looks pretty silly pulling more than about two log cars ... so the Shay is slowly making it out of the weathering shops to take its place.

Hi To all my Mrring Brothers here!

I wanted to update my favorite scene, I used the army box car from the old destroyed layout and created a Island home complete with a moat.

After the plan came the chemical digging out of the moat (Brush cleaner).

The finished project

Phil,

It may sound strange but I make the adobe structures (there are about a dozen on my layout) out of relatively thick sheets of balsa (3/8").  I cut the walls, then window and door openings, and use white glue to create the basic box.  Then I use a very slow Dremel and various sanding attachements to "round" the casements, the edges, etc.  I have a specially concocted latex (I'm happy to give out the formula) that I paint the walls with and then I literally blow a very fine powder (from Arizona Rock and Gravel) into the wet latex to give it texture.

I've thought about writing an article and I have had a couple of editors bug me about it but I never have gotten around to  it.  In my profession, I write several articles or book chapters a year ... so getting myself to do it when it's "hobby time" is tough.

Jim,

Thanks.  I never would have guessed.  It's pretty convincing.

I understand about the writing thing - I'm a training specialist.  I spend my days explaining and illustrating.  Writing an article would seem like my job.

Your scene looks very realistic.  Great trees, too; and the little oven is sweet.

Mike, you said that was an N gauge stock yard pic, the one with the farmer shootinh the bull.  Is the stock yard a kit or did you make the fence.  I need a really good stock yard for my layout.

Thanks, Steve
