This one was done with my Casio QV100 VGA camera and has had no editing.

Same shot as above, sharpened 25%.

Now, anybody who wants me to use the camera from the first shot, speak up now. Geep unit, you have no say in this, so don't even bother.

I didnt realize you were using an aiptek camera. No wonder you had problems. The new one is a little better but not much. I still think you need to find yourself a better digital camera.

Yes I do work too!

I know I know, I am not supposed to be here but since I am here I will join in for the next day or so.  Anyway earlier tonight I renumbered a set of three SP units to the UP numbers and it was fun.  I ordered Microscales renumbering kits to do it.  I had to do three units

1. Athearn SP AC4400 #146 to UP #6154

2. Overland SD70M #9824 to UP#3999

3. Athearn Genesis SD70M #9803 to UP #3977

I actually have not finished them completely.  The Geneis SD70M I have just done one side with the numbers.  And the other two need the number boards done above the cab.  I did the Athearn AC4400 unit first to make sure it would come out nice before I jumped onto the Overland one ya know.  I numbered each unit to the correct number as well.  Last time I checked SP #3999 is still looking renumbered and not repainted yet.  I do not know about the other two.  Well here are the pictures of them.

Two SP AC4400 pictures

Before and after Overland SD70M pictures

The AC4400 in the backround (before)

After

The Athearn Genesis SD70M with patch and numbers only so far

I forgot to mention

I did not want to use anything on the oveland to remove the previous numbers so I decided not to remove any of the numbers on the other engines too.  I put the patch right over the exsisting numbers and it came out perfectly.  There was no need to remove them.  Now IF I decide to sell them to anyone else and they want to go back to the Sp numbers it will not be hard at all.  Well thats it  I am ready to do someone elses for them for free too.  No I am not a thief either

Just wondering Geep if you mowed down your train engineer with an AK-47? LOL. Is that the blood stain under the loco?

On a serious note though, I was wondering how you like the Athearn AC4400 models. I've been somewhat skeptical about athearn. I just bought a blue and yellow box loco last Christmas for $60 and have had some motor problems with it.

Is the overland model a smooth runner like Atlas or Kato?

I have two much better cameras coming. A 3.1 megapixel Olympus (D550) and a 5 megapixel Vivitar (3935). I also have a full size tripod and at least one table top tripod coming.

The model is numbered 666 because it's modeled after the actual KCS 666. Some engineers call it 'The demon engine' or 'The beast' and refuse to crew on it. It has one of the best safety records on the line and to my knowledge hasn't required anything more than routine maintenance.

Very nice work on your interior Big Smile [:D]  Which paint brands did you use and what are the names or codes of the colors?

Thanks.

I used Polly Scale paints for the interiors.  For the diner red seats I used Zinc Chromate Primer (414293).  The kitchen prep areas and other silver trim is Stainless Steel (414296).  The floor is Earth (414311).  The real floor was a mottled green carpet but I find earth is a good color to use on unseen floors, especially when lighting interiors.

The interiors came molded in the turquoise color, which is pretty close to the prototype Zuni Turquoise.  If I was going to repaint this color I use GN Glacier Green (414228).

To simulate the El Capitan's Adobe style plates, I used TH&B Cream (404055).

GUB, are you talking about the locomotives? If so, I must confess and plead ignorance about where they are built. I just saw this lashup of 3 locos at the head of a train in Shelby, MT, as we stopped for gas (and to feed our 3-month-old!). So I at least know that this one was in active service with BNSF.

The ES44DC is made by General Electric, but you have seen new locomotives at the plant near you, it was probably their EMD (GM) counterparts in identical paint schemes. Probably an SD70ACe or something similar.

Ain't that the truth! I've seen people take really lousy pictures (worse than any I have) with top notch professional equipment.

Geep Unit, occasionally I encounter a response that just sends me right over the edge and your 7:38 AM one has done just that!!! Unfortunately WPF, all too frequently, tends to become an arena for the pot calling the kettle black. Professional critics who become insulting in their critiques eventually get their nose punched, sometimes even literally punched.

Before I labeled the kettle black there, Geep Unit, I think I would appropriate a dictionary, look up the word focus- eff oh see you ess! - read - and understand - its definition, then come back and take a very close look at my photographs; it is an absolute affront to the English language to use - it might even be called oxymoronic - the word focus while perusing these photos. I do, however, wish to complement you because your photographs show an eye towards composition and that is worthy of note. Nothing wrong with the interest of your photographs; they just are out of focus and that tends towards distraction.

With an exception or two I have remained mum on critique; I have perhaps a thousand slides or photographs in a box labeled never-ever-show-these-photographs-to-anyone-without-either-a-sack-over-your-head-or-a-45-automatic-pointed-at-your-temple. I find them an acute embarrassment;  most have background - or foreground - distractions; some, however, are just p-poorly composed, or p-poorly exposed, or are out of focus. For whatever reason I do not show them to anyone.

Having gotten that off of my chest let me ask a question of the forum readership: my critique of Geep Unit is on his photography, not his painting skill which looks very, very professional; I have referred to the overpainting of a number on locomotives such as he has done as patching; I have, however, seen a different word used for this practice. Can someone enlighten me on this matter - what does the prototype call it? - I would like to add this word to my vocabulary card-file. I appreciate it!!!

Geep Unit: I like your work (although it's sad to see UP patching SPWink [;)]), but I don't like your negative comments. Please keep them to yourself.

Geep Unit,

I have been thinking of "patching" some of my SP units though I'm still being held back by the little angel on my right shoulder.  Does the decal come with they yellow or do you have to go and paint the patch then apply the numbers and shield?

Still working on my resin cast stucco city hall. Finally making enough progress that I could open up the doorway and do a temporary install of the wooden beans over the door. Not even close to being the final product. After I'm happy with things I'll stipple the wall with a stiff brush and get the stucco finish I want. Then on to the other 3 walls. Very time consuming projuect so far. These were all cast from my own molds.

The renumber decal set come with all that you see.  It is fairly easy too.  There is aYellow patch and if you look real close in one or two of the pictures you can see the Microscale paper in the backround.  The yellow goes over then the numbers onto the yellow patch.  The very cool thing is you DO NOT have to remove the previous numbers at all to get great results.  I know most people use harsh chemical sto remove the numbers and letters just to patch it and its not needed.  Go ahead and repatch those SP units.  If you sell them on Ebay they will sell for more money too because it is now a UP unit and people do like the repatches.

No no no.  I would dream of such a violent incident with the engineer for some members will say I am sick for modeling anything not considered "normal"  LOL  I spiled red paint thats all.

I am not a fan of the Athearn models running abilities and that is why I switch out the motors with genesis ones from engines I didnt like and sold as dummies.  Then I add much needed weight and they are run worthy.

The few Overland models I have run flawlessly in my opinion and its not because I envy stupid brass either.  It is because they do run real nicely like Atlas or Kato.  My Sd70ACe runs the best out of any loco I have ever owned.  I just won the bid for $456 for the Overland Bush unit SD70ACe but the kicker is it is a unpowered model.  But the good news is I will remove the motor and DCC from one of my other Overland models to power it up, If it works!

Geep Unit , if that is your work, I can appreciate your modeling work, and as such you could be a useful and productive member around here. If you could just get over always calling a spade and spade and just be more positive and not vulger, I and many others could actually like you. Nice work.  Although I hate seeing an SP unit ruined. My beloved SP lives forever on my layout.

Wow great building.  Stucco buildings are hard to find in HO kits.  Your city hall looks fantastic.  Did you make a styrene model first and then make molds from it?  Other method?

What color paint do you plan to use for the stucco?

Jeff, I think now that you have grass and ballast down it looks much better. That weird plaster-ish stuff just didn't look right.

Oh and, is your ballast really that color or is it the camera?

Geep Unit, just as soon as I come back to the forum after watching this afternoon's episode of Trains and Locomotives - hey, they're going to the D&S today - you're photographs are going to get the flat of my blade.

Now that I think about it, my neighbor's car is really ugly. I don't much like the way his kids look either. I'm going over to give him my opinion right now. That couldn't cause any problems in the neighborhood, could it?

Geep unit where are your layout photos all I have seen are pictures of locomotives that are supposidly yours (your photo skills arent as good as you think they are either). I never once saw a photo of a building or even benchwork. Provide use with what you have done. The problem with you, is you critizes but never provide. Many know who I am, they have seen my work. Most critize it nicely or they make suggestions. You sir are the bottom of the barrel thinking you and your comments should be the leader of these forum.. Have you ever been judged by real modelers, entered a contest?, have you grown up? seems to me you havent. Step up with your work or shut the heck up cause till you produce something more than attitude dawg (as you would call people), just shut up.

Geep unit, if you want to see excellent photos all the time, start a professional photographers thread. I've seen photos on here that are worse than mine and you don't jump on them half as much. I will post what photos I want to. I you don't like them, that's your problem. This is supposed to be Weekend Photo Fun, not Weekend Photo Judgement and Insult. So far it's been anything but fun! I can't help it if my old equipment isn't up to par with your newer stuff.

Nice work.

I freely admit , I cheated a bit. I bought the Walthers
Sante Fe freight house, closed up all the openings, and then made molds. When I cast the new walls , they are clean and ready to do my stuff to them. I will chop and splice alot tho get what I want out of it. Like you said these things just aren't out there. I just wanted a stucco style city hall, small town, small building. Police dept will work out of the back.Color is undecided right now , but the usual yellowish earthy color will work for me.
