Don,

This Holiday season no greater gift will be given than which your son has given from his heart. A lesson from you and your family to your son goes on, and may your pride last a lifetime.

Thank you for sharing that pride.  Ken

Morning!

Boxcars here this am!  (12-degrees)  It felt cold when I woke up...

3-yo woke up at 6:00, when I went to pick-up her sister, sort of...she rolled over, and said 'daddy we need more junk', and I asked if we needed more trains, and she was fast asleep.  Just like her mother.

I knew the Worlock trivia!

You did good Don!  He knows what's right.

BRrrr--

7:00a.m.  Banner Ellk, N.C. 21F with a light snow on the ground but topped with sleet and really slick .  [edit at 7:30 a.m., the Mountain Weather Station update now reports 15.7 degrees].

Ain't going anywhere but got no trains to run except Thomas, Percy and company that I brought here for the Grandkids during Christmas Holidays.{I do have my 2-8-8-2 Mallet boxed up ready to ship out for some cosmetic and detailing work but hardly believe it will negoitate this round-the-tree loop].

Reporting black ice on some of the roads above 3,000' altitude--schools delayed 2-3 hours.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is cold. 1 degree. Clear skies. Going up to 30 today. No new snow.

Today is grocery shopping day. I'll drive up to Cambridge this afternoon. Gas prices have started to climb again. Must be because it snowed. LOL

No trains today. Outside trees look nice with the lights on , and snow on them.

Dining Car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Kurt, my wife does the same thing!  LOL!

not much going on here today... just have to try and get this project finished and then get some school work done.

Good morning all,

It is cold in SE Indiana, and I am still fighting mine.  I did get a good night's rest.  We did have an unusual incident last night.  Lucas came home and said there was a bat in the back utility room.  We do not know how it got in the house, but some how it had hurt itself and was just fluttering around the floor.  With the three of us coordinating efforts, we got it trapped in a trash can with a cooking sheet over it, and I took it outside.  It was too hurt to survive outside so I had to "dispose" of it.  Not one of my more pleasant tasks, but maybe one of the stray cats can get a meal out of it.  My dad was running the layout at the historical society yesterday for the school kids, and he said things went well.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Don B- it's always a great feeling when the kids do something you can be proud of. He did good.

As Kurt said 10 deg. this am, clear sky, snow expected overnite into fri. We been getting those wonderful static shocks lately when I remembered I had not turned on the furnace humidifier. Hope that helps.

I have not got to trains yet this morn. but have a few things in mind for today. Maybe let HWX run while I fuss around.         Later,,Sir  James

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Picture-postcard  winter morning (and 26) here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  About 3 inches of SNOHIZO on the ground, heaviest of which came down around 8.  While sitting on a lot, saw a NS OPERATION LIFESAVER GP38-2 slowly cruise by a grade crossing...kinda took me downstairs to the train room for a moment.

rt - I thank you sir.

Good morning from a bright, sunny and cold Crystal Lake -  it is about 15 so far. I'm glad the middle boy figured out how to run the snowblower to clear the driveway and walks yesterday. I'm going over to my neighbors later to help him take down his deck tent which is pretty trashed by the snow.

I was really tired after getting home but not enough to break-out James and run him for the first time. I still can't figure out how to blow his and Percy's whistles. They're not working when I punch the sound button on my old Lionel trainset transformer. I'll figure something out. I am happy with my second main line around the perimeter of the layout - I think I might add a third  - then I could run Percy, James and Thomas at the same time, put Diesel in the yard and still have a trolley loop.

Question for the day: According to the show, what made the reindeer fly?

Don, that is a great gesture that truly reflects the boy's character.

Doug, If you are using one of the "older" transformers you will probably have to invest in a whistle/bell activation button. Before I got a CW80 I used a K-Line model with my old 1044 transformer on the Christmas & halloween layouts.

I'm going to take this opportunity to BRAG. One of my son's friends live with his grandmother, as does a 21 yr old cousin, (of the friend) and parents. Family has had a lot of issues, and financial problems as well. Anyway, the 21 yr old was killed this past weekend in a motorcycle accident. Unknown to us, Chris went to his Credit Union deposited his check, and withdrew spending money, and $100 extra. He took the $100, and gave it to his friend to help with the funeral. The friend had him give it directly to the Grandmother. This all happened yesterday, I found out this evening. I sure am proud of him! On our way to the train club tonight he told me about it, and asked if "I" thought it was OK ?!?! He told me that he slightly knew the 21 yr old, and he was kinda of a Thug, but he really felt sorry for the family and their pain. Just had to share, I am so proud !!   Approve [^]

Don - You have every right to be proud.  Chris sounds like a great young man.

Evening All - Been pretty busy with work.  Roads were pretty dicey yesterday.  Not too bad today.  We had about 4-5 inches of Snohizo here in G'burg. Pretty cold out still.

Tomorrow the Mrs. and I are headed to Lancaster/Strasburg to Sight & Sound for their Miracle of Christmas show and then to Miller's Smorgasboard.  My Mom & Dad were supposed to go but Mom was afraid it would be too long of a day for her.  Her back is giving her fits after her open heart surgery.  Dr. said it is not unusal given that they had to crack her chest open. They were to go by bus leaving at 10:00 AM and not returning till after 8:00 PM.  We will just meet the group at theater and follow them to the restaurant.

Hope to get some train time in Saturday.  Mrs is going out with girlfriends.

Have a great evening.

G'Night Chief - I won't call late again, forgot about that time zone thingy.

Cold today and for some reason we are having sleet and freezing rain, guess there is a warm air mass involved - great fun driving home from work in the dark.  Lucky I put a bunch of sandbags in the back of the truck yesterday.

Don- that is really great, be proud of your son!

Had training today plus a party for my friend Dave Kempf who actually retired a couple years ago.  He came back for a year on contract, paid his old salary but still drawing retirement too, and used the money to put a big addition on his house and stuff, so it was basically free!  He's a good guy and very smart.  Anyway, he paid off the work and decided not to renew the contract - going back to being a full-time retired.  He said he is so busy being retired he barely has time for work!

Got my reindeer car - the last preorder item from earlier this year.  Also got a few more pieces of gargraves flex track (phantom tinplate) and a gg operating section/uncoupler section with the uncoupler up at one end for in front of a lumber mill in the near future.  No OT so plan to go to a TCA train show Saturday, pay my local dues too, and maybe also check out a store called Marty's that is apparently pretty close to my house.  Then I want to work on the Christmas layout with kids, so need to go to Michaels.  Finally I need to get back to working on the basement.  I intend to put up a bunch of insulation.  We'll see.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

EVENING ALL

Brutus your sleet is going to be here overnite as snow. We reached about 29 today with sun that melted the snow just in time for more. I guess we're rotating the stock. I addressed christmas cards today still have to sign them, my wife writes the notes after I finish my part.Sad how many have passed on to a new address. They are in a good place but we still miss them. I had time today to run some trains but its always what should I run. at least with BCRs now I can run my favorite brand more. It was always better run that to charge the battery.  Good nite Chewy, Sir james

Well here it is another funfilled snowy drive to work changing over to freezing rain later in the day.

Chief, my doctor and nutrionist both told me to never go to a buffet ever again, and if I do find myself in that situation only get one plate and fill it with stuff that is good for you(veggies) and then not go thru the line again. Fortunetly I like stuff like brussel sprouts, broccoli and califlour but my weekness is bourbonstreet chicken, fried catfish, hushpuppies, pizza and hamburgers because of this I am avoiding Golden Corale and CICI's pizza.

this moring I weighed 333 hope I can stay this light till monday evening. Not missing food that much which is a good thing.

 Good Morning O-gaugers

26 F. "Wintery mix", i.e; freezing rain/light snow here in the mountains of Banner Elk at 5:20 a.m. Falling on top of yesterdays snow/sleet. Roads are slick---schools delayed. But old retired farts do not have to venture far from the fireplace.

Four-lane U.S. highway 421 is closed for "Black Ice" between Deep Gap, N.C. and Wilkesboro---Wilkes Mountain at the Continental Divide has a 8% grade which is impossible to negotiate when coated with ice.

Shipped off two steamers to Jeff Sohn for painting/redecorating as Southern Railway units. Atlas undecorated 0-6-0 and Lionel 2-8-8-2 Mallet.
