Congratulations to PhilaKnight!! Thumbs Up [tup] Smile [:)]  I suppose this means we have another Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers fan to put up with in the near future.  Shock [:O]

We celebrated Baby Buckeye's Birthday last night.  She and I ran the trains before the celebrations.  Of course she likes to run the Mikado pulling the C&O passenger cars.

Chuck, do you want me to run over to your house and be your cook for a few days?  I will bring my special recipe for hot dogs and beans. Laugh [(-D]

Chief, have a good time in the land of big money and big taxes.

Brent, is the Lion going to roar this weekend?  BTW, I wouldn't get in a car with a four drinker either, especially in Birmingham, AL.

Wes, you know I am keeping an eye out for your boxcar.

A late GOOD MORNING to ALL,

Wow I took a short run to the store for more ice cream and everybody shows up here today. HELLO to everyone, I should have taken notes, I remember what was said but not by whom.

Chief, I  find this hard to say but; stick with grits and stay away from seafood,my wife has the same allergic reaction. We ate fish, etc. for years and then one day she looked like she had the measles. same thing with some medical dyes.

As for the drinking and driving more than a little, I would not go with him either. One funeral is one too many no need for more. I'm sorry I should have wrote names before I started this. Just got a call my HWX arrived did not expect one until later but will probably p/u sunday after the TTOS show.     It's friday enjoy........Sir James

Store packed.  People stareing in amazement.  Marine is slow as boats are already winterized.  Rest of store is busy.  Cold and gray.  Looks like snow to me.  Sloppy Joe, cold pasta salad and potato chips is what they fed us.  Yankee food. Disapprove [V]  Later

All this talk of food and I am on a dietSigh [sigh]

To bring trains back to the conversation if ever in Columbus you need to eat at spagettie wharehouse just west of down town on a wendsday as they have a $4.95 plate of spagettie with endless bread sticks and endless salad and includes the drinks, here is where to trains come in there is a hugh booth with several small tables in it, the booth/room is the body of an old street car and just above the windows are old advertisements like what would have been on the streetcar.

Hello all!

Back from Chicago and now I pack for NYC trip Dead [xx(] It should be fun though. Have a 7 am flight Sunday Sleepy [|)].

Chicago was cold (mid 20's one night) and then return to 80's here Cool [8D].

We had a social get-together last night of some of our old club members and one brought his new Big Boy and ran it on a roller base. SWEET! Talk about details and features, even without the TMCC II. 14 levels of chuff and great whistle! The tender even has a removable coal pile and you can see the screw feeder for the automatic stoker! The fine detail of the valve gear linkages and oilers is outstanding. Nice work Lionel!

Well off to relax so I can pack again!

Regards, Roy

Hey chief did you see this .

An 80-car freight train hauling coal derailed on Friday in Washington with at least five cars falling into the Anacostia River, officials said.

No injuries were reported, but the accident involving the CSX Corp. train on the outskirts of the capital was likely to slow or halt traffic on the busy freight route that runs over the river.

"I'm counting five rail cars in the water, all of them were full of coal," fire department spokesman Alan Etter said.

Other cars, some of them piled atop each other, dangled over the river from the low bridge.

A CSX spokesman said the train was carrying coal on tracks it owns but had no further comment.

U.S. railroad and transportation safety officials have launched investigations.

Amtrak service was not affected by the derailment.

#^*@ hotel internet service just dropped me and came back up after typing a long post in reply to Roy's post about Big Boy. Disapprove [V]

Roy, your buddy's Big Boy must be different from all the ones delivered to Miss Edna's.  I was the first to get one from her and run it.  Emailed the gang and then called one of the guys.  The whistle sounds like it is "breaking up" at medium low speeds.  Sounds great sitting still, just moving and a high speeds.  At medium low, not good at all.  They tested all of them with the same results.  We figure it is because of the absence of TMCCII.  I hope this is true.  Big engine and tender.  Great runner.  No jerking with speed control on.  Chuffs are great.  Suddenly close the throttle and it "coasts" instead of chufffing.  Sounds real.  BTW Roy, it is cold here in Yankeeland [CT] too.

I got it !!  My Big Boy arrived today.  (4012) Yep it truly is awesome!!!

You won't believe this, Stuffed inside the shipping box was a MTH catalog !!  How ironic, didn't realize they had become THAT friendly !!

(Chief - I now have about 4 of those catalogs, do YOU need one?   They have the same stuff in all four of them. )

Everyone is out for the evening, Bunco, etc., so I'm going home have a glass of wine, and play with the trains.   (Have to work the weekend, ugh)

Other than the road numbers listed in the Lionel catalogue for the BIG BOYs there is also an uncatalogued number.  I don't recall what it is but we had one special ordered, and delivered, for a customer and there might have been a second.  8 out of the 10 delivered went out the door with UPS almost as soon as they arrived.

Spagetti warehouse used to be good, but seemed to have really gone down hill in food quality.  It doesn't hold a candle to Buca de Beppo, if you ask me.  It's been at least a year since I have been there though.  Maybe things have changed.  The trolly car used to be worth the trip.

So these big boys that everyone has is the big Lionel one with TMCC2, right?  I still hope to get the MTH 0-31 capable trail from the beginning of the year.  I'll never be able to run an 0-72 on my layout!  Laz, do you have an MTH and a big Lionel now?

Nope WES, both are LIONEL.  The new one is the BIG BOY with TMCC2 and the other one is the LIONMASTER BIG BOY from a few years ago.  It will run on 0-31 and the new one on 0-72.  Both really look cool.  I like the MTH one but since I have these two going to save up for the Lionel FEF thats to come out later this month.  Hope to get that one in March or April?  Thats when my wife will probably allow me to get it?

Don B - hope things work out on the clubhouse deal!

Sir James, thanks for the Banilla icecream!  Chewy licked the bowl last night, ymmy!

Laz, sounds like you need to post those pics for sure!  Maybe CTT should commission an article with pics and interviews with you guys on all the different versions of this that are out there and how they compare???  I know the real one I looked at last Sunday was very cool - BIG is right!

Doug, go have some fun with the wife and kiddos!  6AM - EEK!

Kurt and Brent - I'm so far behind on house work it's unbelieveable.  Brent makes it look easy.

Sorry, can't rememeber all I wanted to say, but glad Mrs. Blueberry is home and hope she's doing better.  Chief, watch out!  Hope you are feeling better too!

(edit)

RT - Bet Chief will use that pic on his Christmas cards this year?!

Roy - how is the robot class coming, didn't you just start a new one?

(edit edit)

Wes - I am trying to figure out how to get at least one loop of wider track, mayb O54???

CSXect - how is the diet coming, man?  I need to get started on my new one, but put it off until after my birthday....

Well I just proved that getting older doesn't make you any smarter.  Just sat through the first District 3 HS football playoff game in the rain with 35 degree temperatures.  The good part is we won, Elizabethtown 35 - Shippensburg 7, so we play again next friday.  Don't know who yet.

Chief, Sounds like you are not having fun on your trip North, don't like cold and dreary?

Don, Did you run that Big Boy yet.  Lets hear all about it.

Laz, Sounds like you are enjoying your Big Boy.

Roy, Looks like you are just home long enough to pack a change of cloths and off again.

Doug, What time do you have to get up for a 6:00 AM flight, 3:00 AM?

I just have to find a little time to play with trains over the weekend. Thumbs Up [tup]

Just remembered, got a trap shoot on Sunday, don't like to miss these as the son and grandsons shoot also.

Take care,

Brutus - I thought about not having large enough curves also, but with my limited space, all I really get is a big oval if I use 0-72.  That's not much fun...

Brutus, I think you posted while I was typing and thinking.  If you can find a way to work in a loop with 054 curves that would be great.  That is my largest radius and I can run some pretty large engines and passenger cars such as a Reading T-1 (4-8-4) pulling 18" cars.   I only had 42" before changing the layout and it was worth it.  It makes a big difference in what you can run.

Wes - I think I'm going to try and morph my layout into a big donut I can sit in the middle and watch the trains, maybe have a side table with some switching....  Dunno yet, right now I've got a 4 x 8 table with a single loop of fastrack on it for the HWX - all my O31 and O27 is in a box.  That's not gonna work for me!

John (jefelectric) - love trap shooting!  Man, I haven't done that in 20 years!

edit - Hey - we did it again, John!  ;-)  I guess I'll have to agree, was looking for some cheap used but working O72 switches from Lionel, postwar, but I don't see them for sale on ebay etc....  Is that a high demand item that keeps the prices up???

Jim,

Robotics class at the Elementary school is doing great. Good well behaved kids this year (so far). The 6th graders get to be a bit of a handfull towards the end of the school year in the Spring!

The HS group is done. We were 3rd after the seeding rounds and then things got rough and we placed 6th or 7th (I forget now) in the finals. Not good enough to go to state again.

Buckeye - Yes Chicago was Cool Cool [8D] but when you went outside it was COLD!

Regards from N Texas were temps will hover around 80 for the weekend!

John - Congos on the football game ! That's really great, trap shooting sounds like fun as well.  What do you do with all the traps afterwards?

Roy and Dave travel safe

Came home and ran the BB, (Chief - my post just disappeared also.) Here is what I found....

1.   The thing is a monster!  weighs well over 20 lbs.

2.  The lights are fantastic...

- The lights alongside the boiler that come on when the engine stops are really great!

- When the engine begins to move there is a red glow from the fire box on the outside of the engine it is really cool.

- There are 2 sets of lit number boards, one above the boiler and one at the headlight.

- The interior light comes on when the train stops, can you imagine?

3. This is the first time I've ever seen "blind" wheel sets provided with the engine.  Alternative to ALL flange wheels located on the tender.  (Lionel says in the event your switches are NOT Lionel)

4.  The detail is spectacular!

Definetely one HECK of an engine.

Concerns:

- Most important is the only sound I have is the bell, and horn.  They really sound good.  Very realistic.  I read a post that someone said it sounded the same as the Lionel Cab Forward.  I don't agree they are very distinct.  As a matter of fact this engines whistle is very similiar to the MTH RK Big Boy I have.  Only much richer, and lot louder.  The bell has a slight echo affect, again very realistic.

HOPEFULLY, I'm doing something wrong, I have no chuff at all, no chatter between the cab and dispatcher. (Alt 2 or 7 keys).  I DID install the 9v batt., no change.  Then when power is removed do get a very large release of pressure and air.  So I know the speaker works.  Don't know if the remaining sound is in the identity chip, or operator error, DOA or what.

Got to go 5:00 com WEEKENDes early and its already 12:30...... hopefully more tomorow.

(You guys have chuff, etc.???)

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT WEEKEND

Good early morning Y'all!

Couldn't sleep, so here I am.  Sounds like you guys are really enjoying the Big Boys.  I have heard several more folks talking about the breaking up of sound, so hopefully it is easily rectified.

Roy, I was looking through the list of journals that are on a web site I subscribe to.  One has to do with robotics.  If you don't currently take it, I can get the information.

Well, the tree is up and the train has been running around her.  Kids have been having a ball as the Polar Express got a few more cars added to it (I even threw in a Christmas musical boxcar).  The kids are at the age when we can all really enjoy Christmas, so we will make this last as long as possible.

Busy day with the movie stuff.  Had our production meeting and lots to do before Monday, which will be the Train scenes.  Had to go up to the rail yard and get photos of one of the engines that will be used as we have to mount cameras on it.  Also had to make arrangements for engineers to have train on location at 6am, they ought to love that!  I will try to get a few photos to post, but will have to clear it with director.

Chief, hope you are well and that they haven't tried to poison you again.

God Bless,

Dennis

Good morning from New England? My daughter woke me up at 5:03. The time change hasn't kicked in yet for any of us I guess.

Someone mentioned going on a diet? I've been on one for about a week. Maybe a little longer. It's making me grouchy!!! I'm hungry all the time. A snack now is a glass of water and 2 baby carrots. And absolutely nothing after dinner. But I need to lose weight. None of my pants fit anymore. I'm just starting to see results. It's tough, but worth it. I usually weigh around 175. But lately, I've been knocking on 200's door. I miss eating!

We ran trains last night for over an hour. I also dusted the layout. Today I want to run my 671 with some Pennsy passenger cars.

Dennis - your tree is already up?! You win that race. We don't put ours up until the first week of December.

I hope Doug and family have an uneventful flight home. They should be taking off right about now.

More leaves today, finally thinning out...and cut down perinneals for the winter....Time to button up!  It's been close to 30-degrees the past few mornings.

Don, special Big Boy just for MTH lovers.  NO sound. Laugh [(-D]

Try the switch under the engine.  I think there is four.  One is program/run, one is smoke/no smoke and one is odessey off/on.  I think there is a sound/no sound one.  If not, it is in the tender under the water hatch.  Also a Railsounds/Signalsounds one in tender under watch hatch lid.  Try reading the book that came with it.Confused [%-)]  LAZ can check and tell you about switches.

Morning all.  Overslept but do not have to be at store until 9 AM or so.  Cold but looks like it has more sun than yesterday PM. Shower time [room coffee ready].  Have a good one.

Don, you should be getting the engine sounds and chatter that are normally available with TMCC.  The engine sounds should start as soon as you address the engine.  Have you tried the engine reset?  ENG# - AUX1 - 0  Sometimes this helps when first using a new engine.  Without the Legacy system I don't know if I'd try a reprogramming, see what the instruction book says about a reprogram with TMCC.
