Good morning all,   sunny and low 80s for the week.   One of you sick guys must have used my coffee mug as I feel awful today. can't remember the  last time I was actually sick, so guess I cannot complain. My train friend saw the Hogwarts x at the store and said he was not too impressed, I'll wait till I can see it myself to judge. I'm interested because we have no british engines except the few expensive ones. Where did I put that box of puffs and asprin, got to look, stop by later.           Sir James

Hope Sir James feels better... never good to be under the weather...

Afternoon all

Jim F-I've used peanut butter to remove bubblegum from lots of stuff, kids, furniture, dogs but the oil will stain so you make the decision.  It's wierd, the bubblegum kind of dissolves.

John-Night shift does have some advantages.  For the almost 31 years I've been at the plant where I work (27 miles; 45 minutes commute) less than 10 has been on straight days.  I'm on a rotating 12 hour day/night rotation.  I'm on nights (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) now and if you need to go to the bank or BMV or places that don't work beyond a 9 to 5 world it is great.  The seceret is sleep, ear plugs, room darking shades and curtains, white noise, and figuring what eating pattern works for you.  The rotation does include weekends and holidays which can be a bummer at times, or a blessing when you have to miss a "family" event when it is the brides family.  Man, did I get the cream of the crop, or maybe she was adopted???  Weird gene pool there.

Buckeye-Congrats!!!! What will you be doing?  Travelling to Southen Ohio any?  If so you've got a bed in the train room.  The commute is a good decompression time.  After a rough shift I can usually be in a good mood by the time I get home.

Need to go and find a new heating element for the dryer.

May God bless

Jim

Greetings from a not as wet as yesterday Jacksonville but probably going to be as bad tomorrow and Thursday. Finally got INTO the trainroom today and moved some stuff around and almost out the door! The room is 8 1/2 by 9 feet so there is not much maneuvering room to get pictures. I took three pictures that should appear below.

The first is of the South East corner of the room.

Thie second is of the North wall.

The third is of the North East Wall

The room has 4 levels on top of each other with a Lionel Standard gauge loop suspended from the ceiling. I have been rewiring and moving track and accessories around for a couple of years and trying to get back in and get at least some of it "finished".

RR Charlie, looks like you are getting there.  Took my over 2 years to get started.

Ready to go to Town Board.  No trains.  Frankie's B'day tomorrow.  Taking him to lunch and then regional transportation meeting.  Probably go to Mom's Thursday as her B'day was today [91].  Cathy [oldest] went to Mom's today.

Later.

Sorry haven't been keeping up with the pot...Busy busy busy.

Daughter went to Doc today...Eye swelled-up yesterday after nap.  Doc says it is an infected insect bite.  Gave her a double shot (on in each leg) and pennicillan (sp?) 2-times daily.

Please pray for betrothed tomorrow am, gall bladder operation scheduled for 7:30am, need to be at hospital at 6:30am.  Full staff in OR just in case she needs full surgery.

Hope everyone else is doing well!  Looks like Buckeye made it out of the hen house!  Gotta love them sly Yankees.

Tonight:  Double pepperoni pizza:  2-YO shot reward, with hot wings for me.

God bless you and your wife, Kurt.  Hang in there.  My wife had this done and it was fine.  Pizza Dinner [dinner]

God bless Buckeye in his new job, too!

Chewy is all cleaned up guys.  I bathed her really good Saturday and then my wife and I cut her hair.  OTOH, I know now the dreadful truth about her recent bouts of Chewyrhea!  SOUR CREAM!!!  Well, I suspected something of the sort and already got my revenge!  Yes, you all drank out of Chewy's cup - I let Chewy drink out of all the cups and bowls - bwahahah bwahaha-haha-haha!  The symptoms begin like a common cold, but then the hair starts to grow when the moon is full!

Thanks Jim, yes peanut butter works good - used on carpet once!

As if the LEMAX stuff wasn't enough, I've gotten a bunch of emails recently about the new Dept 56 Halloween stuff and sales etc.  Man - Do these guys think I'm made of Money!?

88 - I primed the frames on 4 basement windows - there were cheap contractor style basement windows and not galvanized.  I replaced the actual window units with vinyl windows a couple years ago, but left their frames in place - finally got around to this last part of the job.  Wife wants a say in the final color Shock [:O]  Bet she won't help paint, though!

RRCHarlie, I'm really looking into a multilevel layout too.  Are you going to put wiring in the wall or how will you disguise it between levels?

Doug M - that is a long commute!  At least on a train, you can read and stuff.  You need a Nintendo DS and SimCity DS.  I've wasted about 5 hours on it this week alone!

DougNotaGrump - need to go clear the snakes out of your outside the house train set!  Wink [;)]

No Laz of Fife today?  Chuck, hope you and that nice waitress had a good trip today.  Gas is still hovering around $2.50 here, but that's way too high!

Hey, Chief - any word from Bigboy or his wife?  PS - Happy BDAY to your Mom!

Howdy to all who I missed or didn't post today, including Lisa, Nick, John Baker, the other Jim's, etc.

PS - I think my friend Ron at work is doing a lot better from his heart cath/stents.  He went out and bought a '78 (?) Corvette to play with.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evenin' boys.  Hey Brutus.  Has anyone seen my 3 inch sash paintbrush?  I had it soaking in a WOLVERINES coffee mug, and someone must have picked it up...oh,well.

KURT.MARTY - best regards on the ladies.

Town Board over.  16 deer right near my back fence eating soybeans.  Same ones eating up my corn at the pond.

Popcorn time.  Good night.

Morning all,

Fresh pot of Joe for the drive home this morning.  Had a good night, busy enough to go by fast, but not hectic.  Rather cool out, feels like the start of fall.  Saw several deer  and turkey feeding in the woods coming to work.  Mornings like this make me get the bow out and get shooting again.  Maybe after ordination next year.

All you getting ready to leave home for work drive safely.

Kurt hope your daughter is better.  I'll say a prayer for your wife and her surgeon that all goes well.

Good night and good morning

MAy God bless

Doug,

Thanks for the video link. Now for the scary part - I know him. Personally, with three kids and a wife, I'd rather have a Monkeemobile replica. More seats and much cooler than my new car.

E-mail some dimensions and color scheme ideas for the decals you need and I'll make them up.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 48 degrees. Sunny. Going up to 82, today, with sunshine all day. This is nice weather.

Today is the day, that I drive up to Cambridge, to do the grocery shopping. YUK. Gas prices are still 12 cents cheaper there than in Caldwell. Big deal. Cheapest around is $2.78 a gallon. Have not put many miles on the car this summer.

No time for trains today. I ran them for awhile yesterday. Everything worked fine. Getting ready to paint the last wall in the train room and hang the shelves and pictures. Then, back to the scenery.

Dining Car is here and waitress just yelled " All Aboard ". It is time for breakfast. Then to " Points West ". Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s today.  Dining car just rolled in from "Points East" loaded with goodies for breakfast.  Talk about the good and the bad yesterday.  The good news is that Lucas got a better grade on his second math quiz.  It was either a B or a C depending on which grading scale they use, and this is much, much better than the first one.  I will still have to monitor his progress and help, but maybe things will go well there.  He is even talking of going to a campus for a visit, and that is a very good sign.

The bad news is the boys' soccer team.  If there was ever a motivation to win, it was last night, and they could not get the job done.  It was a 1-0 defeat, and I have never seen such a dejected looking bunch of kids.  I think the rest of the season may be gone as well.  At least the soccer girls acquitted themselves well in a 2-0 loss to a much better team.  There was one ray of hope in the soccer world as the US Women won their group and advanced to the next round.

I did track work at the YMCA last night and finished one issue of Trains.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning everyone,

Dr. John-I was about to post when yours popped up. I hope your mother gets on the mend without to much pain.

And then there's Brutus-I already know about the nose, ear hair, it's what's on the roof I don't want  to lose.

Kurt- you seem to have had everything happen all at once, maybe things will settle down after today. My thought's to you and the wife.

Me- I ache all over,I might spend the day right here on the pot, don't feel like moving. 80 all week and gas on mon was $2.89 reg.            Sir James

Good Morning all you train nuts!

First a MAJOR thanks to Doug notagrump, what an excellant tour guide!  He made a special trip after having to work two days, to come in to the museum, on a Sunday morning just to show me and a guest around.  Thanks Doug!!!! Thumbs Up [tup]  Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Lots of mending going on!  Hope everyone has a speedy and painless recovery.  A couple of birthdays as well, that's great!  (sure beats the alternative).

Don't want to be too optimistic, but there is actually the threat of rain here by Friday.  Possibly as much as an inch.  That will be more than what we have had in the past 18 months. Is there anything special I need to do ??

Today is NOT a favorite day, 1st thing, Dentist. Black Eye [B)]Sigh [sigh]Censored [censored]  I'm sure he will get his revenge, last time I was there he said I need a tooth worked on.  I told him he was as bad as a mechanic.  I realize he had a business, but it would be nice if just once he wouldn't find something wrong.  I don't think he liked the mechanic analogy.  He wasn't too pleased. Mischief [:-,]

Wife is going to be making a trip with her parents for a month!  So was tying to get a lap top setup so they could use it in dial-up for emails, etc..  Everything fine, got it working then showing them how to use the dial-up and selecting local numbers.  Then this pop-up screen appears about the registry and an error.  The solution is to go to a specific website, download the software, and will never have the error again.  Of course the s/w is about $70 !!  Really, ticks me off.  So have been trying all types of things to fix it.  Lots of free registry s/w, but it will only scan the computer, and then requires you to buy the s/w to fix the problems.  Really annoying!!

They are leaving tomorrow, so will have plenty of train time.  Going to put up some shelves this weekend.  Might as well take advantage of all that vertical storage space!

Revised my track plan, since it is NOT secured yet.  I layed it all out and ran a little to just check out relative performance.  Decided I need to relocate the Wyes that make up the crossover.

Old Plan -

New Plan -

The major benefit is have MUCH more walking area, and since the crossover is only used to reverse direction it would not have to be in position ALL the time.  The two "bridge" areas can be drop in sections.  Of course will wire it such that if the bridge isn't there, the blocks leading in will not be powered.  Not dependent upon a toggle switch or anything, but actually hard wired that a engine can NOT access the lead in tracks.

Also the track that is in the right loop is currently fasttrack.  Since this is a city area, the fast track could be replaced with Superstreets. Whistling [:-^]

Well off to the dentist, I think I am developing a toothache, really.

G'morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where I hope Sir James, Dr. John's mom and Kurt's daughter and bride are doing well today. Have a full day here and then parent evening over at the high school. Nothing like being with thousands of tired parents trying to navigate the halls for 5 min. classes.

Maybe I'll get to tackle more of the Rail Zepp tonight. Need to find my tin snips to cut up the undercarriage. My motor of choice from the hand-cart might sit too low on its wheelbase for its slide pickup to project below the undercarriage.

Marty, A suggesstion for handling your transformers. Check out some swing up kitchen cabinet shelving. I've seen these types of units used in kitchens where they wanted to have the larger appliances available but not sitting on the counters, swing out and up for use. Don't know what the weight limitations mite be, but use something like that for the heavier stuff and add a sliding keyboard shelf adjacent to it for switch controlers etc(could even add a cup holder for that cold beverage of choice).
