Bright sun shine today in Jacksonville. Thunder storms predicted for this afternoon again. Went to St. Agustine last night for choir practice at Memorial Presbyterian Church, the one Henry Flagler built. A "frog strangler" of a storm was in process as I left the Church. Got drenched getting to the car. The trip home took an hour, about 37 miles.

Trying to get all the "stuff" out of the door to my train room so I can get back in to finish a rebuilding I started several years ago. Five levels: Lionel Standard gauge, Lionel O and O-27, American Flyer S gague, HO, N, and Z. Will be able to run 12 trains when I am finished. I'll try to get some before pictures posted so you can see the job I have ahead of me.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Mel !!  May have missed your post before. Were you familiar with Dr. D. James Kennedy that just passed away lately ?  He will be missed anyway. We hear him all the time on our radio station. Also looking forward to your pictures !!

Good Afternoon everyone.  Laying low as have been on call and trying to actually get some layout work done.  Chief will never let me hear the end of it if I don't make some progress soon.

Wes, I have good friends who live in Durango and hope to visit them soon.  As for your inquiry, Jim Boyd did a video on the Durango and Silverton in the 90s.  It has some great information.  He spoke of taking the first train out in the morning and that the timing is such that while #1 train is still in station, #2 pulls in, so you get some great photo shots.  I have heard that the bus ride on the way back is the way to go, but I don't know from personal experience.  I would suggest that you get a copy of the video....I think Mark1 from Maywood, NJ puts it out.

On another downer, we had another funeral for a church member today.  Sad in that he left a wife and three young kids behind.  This was a person who made some bad choices and it came at a very high price.  I hate to keep coming here with such news, but I hope it reminds folks to get right and make your peace as we are not guaranteed tomorrow.

Marty, glad to hear your bride is doing well.  Will pray for continued progress.

Chief, good luck with the wood duck box, in these parts, if the ground has been dried for awhile, it is like trying to dig in concrete.

God Bless,

dennis

Good afternoon everyone,

It was another boring day at school. I just got in from a friends house and I am heading off to soccer practice soon.

Oh, btw, I was invited to study in London and France next year because of my writing. I think it would be a great opportunity, but the only drawback is that it will cost somewhere around $5,000.

I hope everyone had a good day.

Dr. John-I live in the old Glynlea section near the intersection of Atlantic and University Boulevards on the South side. My Church membership is with St. Barnabas Anglican Church which is currently sharing space with Ft. Caroline Presbyterian Church, but I sing with my former choir director in St. Augustine. It's a long and complicated story.

csxt30-Dr. Kennedy's Church and Ministry were headquartered in Ft. Lauderdale-a "fur piece" from Jacksonville. Offered first comments at the Coffee Pot a couple days ago. I was born and raised in North Girard/Lake City, PA. Dad worked for the New York Central and the Penn Central. He retired and Penn Central declared bankruptcy!! Dad was track foreman and truck driver for the Maintenance of Way Department for 46 years.

Thanks to all for the welcomes!!!!

Haven't made it into the train room yet as I need to do some weeding outdoors while the sun is setting.

John, thanks!  Chewy was so full she just lay there and glared at me when I got up this morning, sighing with the contentment of a tummy full of goodies!  Don - our neighbors have a dog that they ignore and it has taken to barking all night Sad [:(]  This really stresses Chewy out.  She often comes out in the livingroom and stands guard, watching the back door (direction of the barking neighbor dog) for hours.  John - be careful and always come in through the secret entrance behind the bookcase.  Oh, and remember to put the head back down on the Shakespeare bust when you leave - someone might notice that switch!

Don - good luck with the track changes - keep us posted!

Colin - try to go if you can! Maybe you can make up the money with raffles or by selling candybars or something?  My friend Jeff's son spent a year at University in England and had a really great time!

88 - Did you get your shed done yet?  I last recall you were painting the skirting?

Doug M - I like wargames, but I don't have the patience to set all that stuff up anymore - nor do I have any unclaimed flat surface that would be safe from Chewy or kids!  I don't know how you do it?!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Wow, what a day.  got called to Town Hall for a meeting.  Then came home and disked the bare spots in garden.  Sowed turnip seed in hope the promised rain will soak them.  Did go to pond and unload [had to load of course] some rocks on the bank for stabilization before the rains.  Then to new Police Station for ribbon cutting and reception.  Several news media calls and probably be in the News and Observer tomorrow.  Was on Editorial page today.  Hey the newspaper said we did good on stopping purchase of school property.  Tomorrow will be about me finding 3 parcals and I'm not a real estate agent.  County has one on contract and they couldn't find.  My comments on it being a waste.  Just wait.  Monday's County Commissioner's meeting will be me askign why that broker is now handling the negotiations with prospective sellers and getting its cut.

TRAINS TOMORROW!!!!!  A must!!!  Later

Evening everyone,

88 and Brutus, my principal said the people that sent the letter to me will give me some ideas and help me along the way to raise money to go. I really want to because one of my dreams would be fulfilled, that being that I will be able to walk along the beaches of Normandy! I was absolutley amazed when I read that part. I hope I can do that.

Mike C. did you hear the news about McLaren's F1 team?! They spied on Ferrari!!!! They got information regarding the newest F1 car and used it against them. The fine is $100 Million, but they were lucky and didn't recieve the worst punishment, that being that they would not be allowed in the 2007 and 2008 championships.

Well, I just got out of the shower, I'm going to go watch Burn Notice.

Have a good night everyone.

EVENING ALL---Well the afternoon sun warmed things a bit and I did some outside things, dabled mostly, nothing to stressful.

fife-fri. 13ths are tricky they don't always show up on fridays, got to watch out for em.

Only new train news I have and most of you probably know is "L" is shipping one each to its top retailers a Hogwart's Express so buyers can see one and then hopfully preorder. I dont think they can make enough of them on their first run, especially if it's released just before christmas. and of course the next run will cost more. at least that seems to be the pattern.

Evening all.  Kids got to see mom today.  She was good this afternoon but was running a fever tonight.  Was in some pain this evening as well.  Hopefully tomorrow will bring a better day.  Took a couple laps around the hallways.  She might have gotten tired out.

She is on the same floor as the nursery.  The girls wanted to see the babies but the hospital is no longer alowed to have the blinds open at all anymore.  Because of the idiots stealing babies.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

Marty, Best wishes to the misses for a speedy recovery, but listen to the Doc's and don't push it. Thumbs Up [tup]

Now for you halloween fans, drop into the Bay of E and do a halloween search in "O" scale. There is someone out of P'burgh selling some custom made halloween cars that I would love to be able to justify buying (but I mite borrow some of his ideas). Whistling [:-^]  I especially like the Witch Water Tower, and no it's not Hillary.  Laugh [(-D] The coffin car is pretty funny, never even thought of making one.

Don't know why I didn't do a general search before, I guess force of habit I only searched Lionel after K-Line's demise. Dunce [D)]

Colin (tmcc man),

London is the capital city of the UK-England. France is a quite large European country who's capital city is Paris.

You can now travel from centre to centre of these two great cities by train in half the time it takes to fly.

Morning to All

A fresh pot is on. Nice and hot to steam open those brain cells.

Wes- we made the Durango and Silverton trip about 8 years ago on Father's Day. That was probably my favorite Father's day present of all time.  It was really spectacular.  I know you will enjoy it.  We rode in the cheap seats and it was fine.  I loved crossing the trestle.  Wish we had made time for the Cumbres and Tolec.

Starting to get geared up for York next month. Making my mental checklist of items I want to search for.  Will probably start putting it on paper soon, as my brain can't hold all the information and then something will be forgotten.

Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a partly cloudy, 64 degrees. Going up to 80 today, with a slight chance of a few showers this afternoon.

Today, I am taking it easy. I have a few minor chores to do, and then I will enjoy the rest. This has been a busy week. I will spend a few hours running trains later.

Buckeye....Sounds like you don't like being in the southern swamps very much. I bet you don't like the outside bathroom facilities either.

Only 3 more weeks until the Oct. 6th Train Show in Berea.

Dining Car has arrived and is serving breakfast. Then off to " Points West", for the next stop.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Kids are off to school.  Amazing in one year how thing change.  Used to be a hassle to get everyone moving and today it was like they were on cruise.  Everyone got up, dressed, fed and out the door without any proding.

I'll be heading down to the hospital  in about 2 hours or so. Painted some more of the tunnel on the layout yesterday evening.  Other than that it's pretty quiet here.

Have a great day all.

Buckeye - You are in Alabama territory, or Auburn territory depending on what area you are in... If you run into some Alabama fans, ask them about the PSU/Bama games between The Bear and JoePa... you will get some very good stories. Smile [:)] Fans of both schools are really looking forward to the home-home series in a couple years.

Seriously... what part of Alabama are you in?  No fields?  No cattle?  You must be in Mobile - down by the coast... if so you have to have some Hushpuppies... they are really good down there.

---
JimF - No work on the shed for a couple weeks.  I've been fighting a cold for going on 10 days now, Susan thinks I need to go see a doctor - I keep telling her I don't go see doctors unless I've been laying in bed for 48 hours and unable to move, of I have dry heaves - all I need is sleep, OJ, zinc tablets, hot tea, chicken noodle soup, toast with honey, and some solid foods to keep me full, other than that let me be under a heavy blanket.  Hope to get back to it this weekend or next week.  It is supposed to be REAL FALL weather all next week into next weekend... highs in the low - mid 70's! Smile [:)]  Have to go pick up the new vanities, mirrors, and shower door tomorrow for the master bathroom remodel.  Hopefully I can talk Susan into picking out some tile...

---
Chief - Sounds like your School board has some Fiscal Responsibility issues... Whistling [:-^]

---
Doug - I didn't know they still made REAL war games like that any more.  Friends of mine and I used to get together back in HS and play every now and again.  One game took us nearly an entire school year to play... good times.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the high 70s.  Tmcc man, I read that about McLaren.  There is a person at work who believes there is a conspiracy to make sure Ferrari wins the constructor's championship every year, and he will be having a field day over this one.  Personally, I do not see where one team would get that big of an advantage.  For all we know, the information could have been "planted" for the Ferrari person to "steal".   If a person was convicted in a criminal court first, then you might have a case for penalties, but I am not sure if that has been done yet.  At least the drivers were not penalized...yet, and quite frankly who remembers who wins the constructor's title anyway.

I watched "my" soccer girls lose a winnable game last night.  The other team scored on two long range shots, and the team basically gave up after the second goal.  There was a little bit more substitution in the first half, but not much in the second half.  Also, I think some of the ladies are just out there some of the time.  The boys lost a controversial last second goal.  There were so many aspects that lead to the goal that it would take forever to explain it all.  The same two teams meet next Tuesday at home and I would hope this would fire the boys up.  I see where Abby and the "girls" beat Sweden 2-0 in the World Cup.  I did 30 minutes of track work at the YMCA last night and reviewed math with Lucas last night.  It will be interesting to see how he does on the quiz today.  The dining car arrived from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Buckeye, you're going to have to get out of B'ham to get a taste of Alabama. Birmingham isn't called "Steel City" for nothing! It's got more in common with Pittsburgh than the rest of the state. Having said that, I personally like Birmingham. I've got two children living there.

The only colors allowed during college football season are crimson and white or orange and blue. Encounters between the opposing colors is quite entertaining! Anyone found wearing purple and yellow or orange and white will be escorted to the nearest state line by state troopers. Wink [;)]

Oh, by the way, 97% humidity is DRY for Alabama! Big Smile [:D] You should be here for one of our sweat storms. You have to breathe through a filter or you'll drown! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'm off to Albertville, AL to lead a conference. Have a good day, all!
