What a day it is out there! Sunny and mid 70's. I decided to take an extra long walk. The sun felt great.
As I walked I thought about building some shelves for some of our trains. We are running out of room under the layout. I'd like to make the shelves look like an old Lionel display. We'll see...

Morning all!
Jim - sorry about your dog.
Doug - Welcome back. Sorry for your loss. Glad all is well now.
Foundation crew is here. Rear of the house has been jacked up and leveled as best they can. Trenches being dug for tree root barriers. From what I see - may have to have some older foundation piers on the front of the house dug out and and have the house jacked up a bit there to allow a couple of other doors to close. Door in daughters room closes correctly for first time in several years.
Yesterday was very busy. Mowed lawn and cleaned pool filter and scrubbed pool. Kids swam in it for first time this season.
I went to early church. Wife went to 11:00 service. I get a call from my wife at 12:30 that her car won't start and it sounds like a dead battery (battery only 2 years old). A friend at the church had a battery jump box and got her going. Got home and tried to start and starter relay just chatters. Put the voltmeter on it and just 10 volts. Checked the battery cell by cell and each measures 2.2 or more volts. Last cell is 0 volts. Shorted cell. Took it back to Sears and they gave me another one no charge (it is a 100 month warranty battery). First time I have had a Die-Hard not get close to its warranty date. So I got to spend part of the day dealing with the battery issue.
I have to leave town tomorrow for a 2 day trip to Wash DC for some public safety interoperability meetings. Back late Thurs night.
Regards, Roy
Morning. Getting ready to go to County Commissioners meeting in Raleigh. Then Roseyville Town Board tonight. Meet all day and night. Was upstairs working on MTH smoke unit I picked up cheap. Would work some and then not. Found the loose solder joint in the board and re-soldered it. Fixed. Now to make a bracket to mount it in the Conrail dummy I made up from old MTH conventional engine. Has lights. Looks good mixed in with NS lash ups. Got to go.
Doug, sorry for the Step-mother loss. Jim, sorry for yours too. Pek is 17 so anytime with him.
God bless.

Doug (dabrump) Sorry to hear about your loss! Glad to see you back safely. BTW, a couple of new leftcoasters since you've been gone. (Zeke, and Misty) Will be heading your way on the 15th, presentation for SDPCUG at the Ed Center on the hill.
Jim - Tough day GOOD LUCK !
Great news, got one train running on my elevated G-Scale shelf. Ran out of track so have to start searching. Boy, is that stuff expensive.
Have a great day all
Don
Jim, so sorry for the loss. Just went through that myself. As was posted, too many of us here with such stories.
Doug, sorry for the loss. As was said, very hard to keep up with the posts flying by.
Brent, 3M makes a hook with removable adhesive strips. I used these for putting Christmas wreathes on our front windows. These should work for you. WalMart and many other places have them. They are a little on the pricy side, but if She Who Must Be Obeyed does not want holes in the wall, that is the best option. If small holes are permitted (about pin size), I bought picture hanging sets from Home Depot that have a hook with a separate nail/pin that is simply pushed at a downward angle into the wall. These work very well and when removed, the hole is hardly noticeable.
Hope everyone is having a good day. I have to swing by the UPS store and send some packages out and then it is off to work. Chief, I am sure you will be able to fend off any yankee invasion while I am busy.
For those across the pond, heard one of your locomotive shops finished the last steam restorations and is being changed into "something else". I believe this was part of the Great Western.
Well, gotta run, God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning from a sunny and cool Chicago where I didn't get to visit the layout for the entire weekend. I finally recovered from Saturday night's onslaught of teenagers - and subsequent drama about the daughter's party... I did read through six Model Railroaders whilst keeping an eye on things. Last evening, the middle boy debuted as lead electric guitar in his church youth group band. He was upset with himself for the mistakes he made in playing - but I told him not to worry -- and the mix was loud enough that it didn't matter. I enjoyed taking the youngest to see Spiderman 3 on Saturday. The best part was his costume: imagine a 3 ft tall self-assured Spiderman, complete with pull-over mask. Now if only I had remembered to go as Batman, we would've given our fell0w-theater-goers something to talk about...
Doug and Jim - my condolences on your loss.Zeke, I took my Dremel motor tool to a bunch of rusty track and cleaned the tops of the rails enough to run things smoothly - the rust adds to the ambiance.

Mornin' boys. Hey Doug, hey Phish, tough stretch. Let me pick up the tab today.
Laz57 - Indians still looking better than my O's right now.
CHIEF - Perhaps if you take your shower IN your garden, you'd have that much more time to spend doin' nothing...
Buckeye - Your serve.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 38 degrees. A little frost last night. Going up to 78 today, with sun all day.
Today, I have a few errands to run. Will spend some time outside. Yard is looking good, but still needs a lot of work. Grass will need mowing, again, later in the week. Feels good to work outside. Didn't do much last year.
Buckeye...Hope you had a good fishing trip.
Frank53...Missed your pictures yesterday.
Well, Dining Car is here. All aboard for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
Hi GIZ,
Cool one here at 34 to get to 70.
Hope all have a good one.

So sorry, my friend. What was I thinking? I've erased the spoiler so others who haven't seen the episode will not read it. Maybe you could do the same? Still, a good episode for a change. Plenty of stuff to take in! You're going to love it!
Good morning all,
It is another beautiful, sunny, mild day in SE Indiana with temps currently in the 50s but heading to the 70s. The sun is starting to be up on the drive in, which gets the day off to a nice start. "Desperate Housewives" was good as usual last night. Tomorrow is a day off for state employees in Indiana as it is a primary election day for city and county officials so I might head up to the track to watch practice. Dining car is headed to "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning from New England!
Lots of lanscaping over the weekend, but the yard is looking good. Except where my wife wants a huge swing set to go...
We had our 2055 Hudson pulling a long coal train last night. The kids really love seeing a long coal drag.
Jim, sorry to hear about your dog. This is the 3rd one for this forum of late. Let's hope it's the last! My thoughts are with you today.
I'm tired today. Stayed up to watch the Sopranos. Still awake at midnight.
Morning all,
Saw some pictures of Kansas on Fox News. The people effected are in our thoughts.
Laid out the planned size of our layout on the foundation slab of the gamesroom. To allow for the FIL's pool table I rotated the layout 90 deg. Which means reducing the length by about 6" or it blocks a doorway. I am thinking of doing a layout redesign and getting a copy of RR track software so I can play around some more. When the 16' X 8' was marked on the slab Tammy (wife) said that its a massive layout. Charlie (son, aged 9) said "thats small". You just can't win. However once rotated I notice an area for possible expansion..Im' thinking motive power depot and turntable.
Bank Holiday here in the UK 11:41 BST and its not rained yet...
Have a good day
Nick
Wrapping up last midnight shift. I'm glad because I'm beat. Can't seem to take night shift like I use to. Over in the Photo fun I posted pics of the All Aboard panels I wrote of earlier. Hope you enjoy them.
Going to take my Golden Retriever Sue to the Vet to have her put down this morning. Been nursing her health for a couple of months now but she is in pain not so I will put her to rest. Several of you all have had to do the same with pets lately it seems. Sad but I'm good with the decision.
Buckeye - how was the fishing? were you using doughballs or gritballs? Folks have been slaying the crappies and bluegills at Lake Jackson. Sitting on beds with little jigs.
Off till Friday and hope to get some work done, study and maybe some train running. All take care and may God bless your needs
Zeke, I use a non metallic cleaner ie. nylon pan scrub with a GP kitchen surface cleaner. Bit messy but you should be OK! You should not get any shorts once track is dry, use a good vac. and stiff brush to remove residual dust.
I also use a RELCO ultrasonic track cleaner backed up with a PECO track (HO) rubber for persistant bad spots.
Our sympathy goes out to those poor souls in Kansas devastated by the storm(s).
I know oat cakes are not really grits but they are the nearest indigestible thing we have and about as useful.
Just looked at the South Manchester phone book, The only Comb listed lives in North Staffordshire in the small town of Biddulph.
Confession! I spent the money for Lionels power supply on Train Sim software, All I need to do to run trains is to sit down in front of ERNI, not quite the same but I get to drive everything from a Great Western 0-6-0 switcher to an AC4400.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

LOL, no remember BUCKEYEs FISHING?
I found a site with some pics from Buckeye's fishing trip. Apparently, they decided to fish using NC "Dynamite", aka GRITS, and ticked off some locals! But Buckeye was able to subdue the welcoming committee:

Her royal nibs would not eat 'Grits(oat cakes)' as they are 'peasants fare'.
Phew that's a load off my chest!
Grits not made from oats but from Corn meal and are good with cheese

On the price of gas; You should complain! I paid the equivalent of $8.50 for a gallon of unleaded yesterday. And it's forecast to be $10.00 by the year end (70% is tax).
Only from a country that would require a license for a televison
.
Good evening all,
John Baker, Wow, that makes our gas prices seem cheap.
Doug, Sorry for your loss.
Zeke, If you are using conventional Lionel tubular track you may want to take a look at Williams track.

You may be able to do even better in price with one of these dealers.

We have a good chance of frost tonight. I've moved everything back into the greenhouse that will fit and covered everything else up. Hope I don't lose any plants.
HI GIZ,
Sorry bout the BEAR thing. He was to give BUCKEYE the HAD on his fishin trip? Maybe smelled GRITS and went MAD?
FIFE at least the TRIBE won one over the weekend so it wasn't a sweep for the Os.
Finished up all mulch today 8 backhole scoops. Yarden looks good, wife is happy, neighbors like the look, awe all is well.
Ran my MTHs tonight to relax for about 45 min. all is good, no pile ups.
Watch SOPRANOS pretty good, only four left. Episode 8 BOBBY BACAVALVA is suppose to be at TRAIN WORLD in BROOKLYN?
All have a good one.
